CALVING EASE: The ease with which a bull’s calves are born to first calf heifers. A first calf heifer is defined as a female calving for the first time at 33 months of age or less. EPDs are reported as the standardized rank of the animal in the Canadian Simmental population. When comparing calving ease EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a higher percent of unassisted births for calves sired by this bull.

BIRTH WEIGHT: Calf weight at birth adjusted to a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average birth weight of a bull’s calves, compared to calves of all other bulls evaluated. When comparing the birth weight EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a heavier average birth weight for calves sired by this bull.

WEANING WEIGHT: Calf weight taken between 160 and 250 days of age and adjusted to 205 days of age and a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average 205 day weight of an animal’s calves compared to calves of all other animals evaluated. When comparing the weaning weight EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a heavier average weaning weight for calves sired by this bull.

YEARLING WEIGHT: Weight taken between 330 and 440 days of age and adjusted to 365 days of age and a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average 365 day weight or an animal’s progeny, compared to the progeny of all animals evaluated. When comparing the weaning weight EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a heavier average yearling weight for calves sired by this bull.

MATERNAL CALVING EASE: The ease with which a sire’s daughters calve as first calf heifers. A first calf heifer is defined as a female calving for the first time at 33 months of age or less. Expected progeny differences are reported as the standardized rank of the animal in the Canadian Simmental population. When comparing the maternal calving ease EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a higher percentage of unassisted births for calves born to this sire’s daughters.

MATERNAL WEANING WEIGHT: The weaning weight of an animal’s daughters’ calves. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average 205 day weight of an animal’s daughters’ calves compared to calves from daughters of all other animals evaluated. The evaluated reflects both the maternal ability of an animal’s daughters and the growth potential of their calves. When comparing maternal weaning weight EPDs of two sires, the larger maternal weaning weight EPD indicates heavier weights due to daughters’ ability to producer heavier calves.

Purchase a bull from any Saskatchewan member, and when the registration papers are transferred, your name is entered to win a $2000 sale credit. The draw will be made at the SSA’s annual general meeting in July and the lucky winner will have one year to use the credit at any public or private sales on bulls or females purchased from any SSA member.

TERMS: The terms of sale are cash or cheque. All cattle must be settled for at the conclusion of the auction. Cattle will not be released from the sale premises until payment is received in full, unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale with the individual contributor. Every animal sells to the highest bidder, in the case of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final, and becomes the risk of the purchaser. We reserve the right to withhold animals from shipment for whom payments have not been received prior to departure times.

BUYERS REGISTRATION: Buyers please register for a buyer number at the office prior to purchasing.

BREEDING GUARANTEE: All bulls are guaranteed to be fertile and reproductively sound in accordance with the rules and regulations recommended by the breed associations. All bulls will be semen tested.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors in this catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the block at sale time and such announcements will take precedent over any printed material. Any disputes will be settled by the auctioneer.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken, all persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The owners, management, the sales staff assume no liability, legal, or otherwise for any reason.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: A certificate of registration duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer by the breeder for each registered animal after complete and full payment has been made.

INSURANCE: Bulls who go back to the seller’s farm must be insured by the buyer, insurance agents will be in attendance.

Welcome As we all know, with a new year comes new changes.

For the past 4 years we have been hosting our bull sale at Heartland Livestock Sales in Swift Current, Sask. It was a real pleasure to work with the staff, get to know folks down there and meet some incredible cattle producers. We gained many friendships that we hold dear to us. We would personally like to thank everyone at Heartland for welcoming us back each year and accommodating our needs, as well as thank each and everyone who made a purchase. Bringing our sale closer to home feels bittersweet. 25 years ago, we sold bulls at the Lloydminster Bull Sale with my family- Don, Barb, John and Stacey Domes from Domes Charolais, Biggar Sask. It truly was a great place to bring our bulls. For this, we are really excited to be moving our sale to where our Charolais business began.

Another change for us, we recently dispersed our registered Red Angus cow herd. We had them for 3 years and found that it was a real learning curve for us to run 2 purebred herds. The decision to disperse the red herd was from the heart. Purchasing my first purebred Charolais heifer at the age of 6 when the true passion of the breed started. I felt it was best to solely invest all our time into one breed.

We are excited about our offering of bulls we brought to town this year. We strongly believe in growing our calves from weaning time and allowing them to develop into who they will be down the road. Feet and legs are a vital part in a walking herd bull and we don’t believe in pushing our bulls.

We were very privileged to purchase the one and only CSS Sir Gridmaker 2W a few years back and have sold some great offspring from him. With Gridmakers retirement comes the last group of sons we will have on offer. If you want to add hair, performance and quiet temperments to your herd, this is the last chance a person will have out of this great bull.

In closing, we take great pride and really give our heart and soul into the cattle industry. It can be challenging as we all know, especially trying to bounce back after a horrendous drought in 2021, but it’s the pride and joy we have raising these cattle and striving to do better than the year before. Prayers for a better year with lots of moisture and an abundance of grass and water!

Terms and Conditions PAYMENT: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location after the sale is complete. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before bulls will be released.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyers, neither the sales manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

DELIVERY: Every assistance will be given in getting your purchases home. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. We strongly suggest bringing your trailer and we will take $75 off your total purchase for you taking your bull(s) home on or after day of sale.

Please discuss with Northern Livestock Sales if you can leave your purchases at the yards till arrangements are made for pick-up. For bulls heading back to the farm, we will only bring purchases back if they are insured to protect the buyer and seller. In doing so, arrangements can be made with Michelle for future delivery or pickup. There will be a $5 charge/day/animal for those that come back to the farm and stay after April 1st, 2022.

SCROTAL AND WEIGHTS: Bulls will have current sale day weights as they will be weighed on sale day. Semen tests will be done prior to sale and all bulls will be guaranteed.

VIEWING: Bulls will be available for viewing Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th of March up to sale hour on the 19th.
