Welcome to the 11th annual Johnson Ranching Bull Sale. Another trip around the sun as they say and as I am writing this it truly seems like I was just doing this yesterday. This past year has brought a big addition to our operation, our son Wyatt made the decision to leave the oil patch to come join the farm full time and we are sure excited to have him here! Another new feature is all our bulls have been 100k (Genomic Enhanced EPD) tested. We are very proud of this year’s bull pen as they are the most uniform set of bulls to date. This will be the first set of sons to sell off our new walking herd sire NUG Advantage and we can’t be more pleased on how that investment has worked. Our bulls are backed by easy doing functional cows with udder and foot quality of up most importance. We put a lot of time and research into the sourcing of our Ai sires and herd bulls making sure they fit the needs of our customers. The bulls are fed a high forage TMR diet consisting of silage, hay and Country Junction bull developer pellets. We would like to thank everyone who helps us throughout the year as we could never do this without you all! We would also like to give a special shout out to Stefon and Mackenzie for the awesome pictures as well as Ken, Lee and Kade for getting them ready and last but not least to Tiffany for making our catalog look great. The bull pens are open for viewing anytime and we strongly encourage you to come to the farm and let us walk you through the bulls. In the Simmental division, the great Advantage bull has done an awesome job in his first calf crop. The simmentals are stout in quality with Total Value, Trailblazer, Everlast, Sugar Ray and a deep offering of other leading bulls represented. As always, the Charolais pen is stacked with cowboy kind cattle that are extremely good. The Authentic, Triple Threat, Jehu, Rico & Grandmaster sire group are featured again and are they type to build around.

IGS GENOMIC ENHANCED EPD’S (100K TESTING) This year we made the decision to better help our customers make their bull selection a little easier.

We 100K tested all the sale bulls. What does that mean to you, well here is the Coles notes version.

All of the bulls are now sire verified so now you will be able to match any of our bulls offspring by a simple tissue or hair test. The biggest benefit to our customers though comes in the Enhanced EPDS. By doing this we have increased the accuracy of our bulls epds as if they already have 25 calves born to them.

Calving ease, birth weight, weaning weight, and docility epd’s are all at the equvilant of 25 progeny already born, while ones like Stayability, Marbling, and Back Fat are in the 10-15 progeny already born.

We feel this will help you to select the bulls best suited for your operations needs with the added bonus of traceability with the sire verification being done.

We purchased Ray with Beechnoir Land and Livestock in 2019. Our search for a bull to use on our ROBB daughters led us to him, his mass but mostly his softness, middle and hair were the turning points making us choose him over his full brother that day. Ray strides out very well on an excellent big square foot.

The cow family that backs this bull is very good and we are very proud of the daughters he has developing here.

“ROBB” has been a key breeding piece for us for many years. At 8yr old he still moved out freely on a big awesome foot. His calves were consistently in the top of the bull pen but his legacy will be his daughters. Robb was an udder improver, and when you tour through our cow herd you will easily pick out every one of his daughters here. He has several working in top herds around Canada as well.

He was lost during this past breeding season but his legacy will live on with the numerous daughters in our herd.

Trailblazer was the result of an exceptional flush we purchased from Rancier Farms. We really like the dam RF Joys Elegance and she has had a very successful show career for Kade. Her mating with Structure was a great one and produced us a great set of bulls and the females at Ranciers that are outstanding.

Trailblazer was our high selling bull in 2021 to Balamore Farms and Canadian Sires. Trailblazer has sired numerous high quality bulls but by the depth and consistency of his daughters that maybe where he will really shine.

Everlast is a son of Westcott off of Black Sand Sadie 4z. We sold him in our sale as a high seller to Todd Ranches at Czar in our 2018 sale. We were fortunate enough to get to purchase a half interest back in him as we felt he was a bull that could really make an impact here. The cows behind our herd bulls are extremely important to us and Sadie 4z is as good as they come. She is a top donor cow for Rancier Farms and Canadian Donors. Everlast was an embryo purchase that worked. He sires loose made, thick hairy bulls with excellent dispositions. Everlast will be seeing many more cows here in the future as he is proving himself to be a key breeding piece here for us.

The moment we saw Advantage in Maxwell’s bull pen the fall of 2021 we knew that he was the polled bull we have been looking for. When the hammer fell at their bull sale one of the deepest, softest heavy muscled polled fullblood bulls we have ever seen was headed to his new home at Johnson Ranching with a $110000 price tag. We decided to keep him very exclusive and only sold a very limited amount of semen. With Advantage’s first calf crop on the ground now he is really proving his worth. We are very excited for his sons that are going to be standouts in this year’s bull sale. The heifers are equally as exciting. To date his calves come out real easy, they are dark red, solid coloured and they all have nice temperament’s.

We purchased Triple Treat as the high selling yearling from Palmer Charolais in 2018. When the decision is made to add another herd bull to our bull battery it isn’t something we take lightly. Many hours of research and mile get put on to source the bull we feel will move our program forward. We found Triple Threat in 2018. He was a very solid bull with big testicals, tons of hair, clean sheath, and very structurally sound on a very good foot which are all traits we rank at the top of our selection list. His first calf crop has impressed us and we think he will be a great addition the the bull battery.

Grandmaster is our new heifer bull that we selected out of Legacy Charolais.

We are exteremly happy with him as he calves very and leaves us with very marketable progeny. He has an awesome hair coat sound footed and comes from a cow that Diana holds in very high regard.

Listening to our customers’ demands for homo polled bulls with calving ease and lots of performance led us to Rico. We felt Rico checked every box in what we needed in a new herd bull. We saw his dam on the ACA summer tour and were very impressed with her. Rico’s sire Commissioner has been well received across Canada and there has been many sons selling for lots of money and a bull that can be used on heifers as well. It appears that Rico is going to be a key breeding piece in our Charolais herd.

We purchased Authentic from McLeod Livestock as an outcross for our Rico and Chuckwagon daughters. Authentic is a LT Patriot son out of their top donor Desirae. He is deep sided, extremely soft made and had an excellent hair coat. He strides out well on a nice size and shaped foot. Unfortunately he was lost shortly after coming out of stud so his legacy will continue on through AI. His first calves look real promising and will continue to use him as the semen bank allows.
