2-Yr Old Female

3-Yr Old Female Female Herd

Parents never expect to need a Ronald McDonald House, but they are there when families need them the most during the serious illness or injury of a child. At least three families check into an Alberta Ronald McDonald House every day. RMHC Alberta alleviates the tremendous emotional, financial, and physical burdens that families face during these difficult times. Keeping families close!

The Hanna District has many families who have spent time within the walls of a Ronald McDonald House and for this reason we have chose the Ronald McDonald House Charities as the 2024 Charity Steer Fundraising Recipient! Donations can be made ahead or if you would like to join us and take part in our “auction” we would love to have you join the excitement on June 8th @ 7:00pm in Oyen! All donations will be made directly to the Ronal McDonald House Charities and donors will receive a charitable donation receipt. If you or business are interested in donating please contact John Murray 403-664-9479, Greg Norris 403-664-9735, Rocky Miller 403-664-7207 or Joleen Scott 403-823-0745. All sizes of donations are welcome… Big or Small it all goes to an amazing cause!

But we couldn’t stop with just one great cause…..

The communities of Oyen, Youngstown and Hanna are reliant on community food banks to ensure all community members have access to the basic need of food. This year all beef from our Charity Steer “Big Mac” will be donated equally between Oyen and Hanna District Food Banks!

Teaching youth the value of philanthropy and the impact of community involvement is pivotal to raising leaders of the future and we are proud to take part in a project that benefits so many!

Ridge Foot

Hi my name is Ridge & I would love to introduce you to my calf Papa Bear. Papa Bear is a Char-cross steer & is sooo tame. I love how long he is & how he has a nice wide hip. This is my third year in 4-H & I would like to send a huge thank you out to Danny Povaschuk & Pine Ridge Supply in Hanna for purchasing my calf again last year. I would also like to thank everybody who has helped me in my 4-H career so far whether it was helping me halter break or teaching me about grooming. I can't wait to see you all on June 8th at the Crossroads Centre in Oyen for our show & sale!

Dylan Woods

Howdy Folks! This is my 6th year in 4-H and I’d like to introduce my steer, Koda. Koda has been a solid gainer through out the year and weighed in at 1424 on May 9th. He is Black Simmental gentleman that enjoys bunting and playing! He will be a great addition to your freezer and BBQ;) Huge Thanks to Chris Rawson from Pattison Agriculture for purchasing my steer last year! Come out to Oyen and watch the Females hit the show ring on Friday June 7 and Steers show and sell on Saturday June 8th.

Warren Westerlund

Hi, my name is Warren and I am a third year junior member of my club. My steer this year is named Ricky Bobby Jr. He is almost identical to the steer I had in my first year of 4-H so that is why I named him after that steer. Ricky Bobby is mostly black angus with a little bit of Hereford and a smidge of Longhorn in him which is what gives him his unique coloring. He is always first to the feed trough but sometimes that is just so he can get more scratches then the other steers! A highlight from my time with Ricky Bobby Jr was showing him at the Crossroads Beef Expo. I would like to that H. Christianson Trucking for purchasing my steer last year!

Jenna Fraser

Hi my name is Jenna Fraser and I’m honored to present to you my Market Steer Rowdy. Rowdy is a Red Simmental who’s a big strong steer and has been gaining very well. Captain Hook has been a really good quiet calf and it will be hard to see him go on Sale Day!

Danica Woods

Hello! This year marks my graduation and I am very proud of my final 4-H Steer– Zeus! I chose a moderate Market Steer project and he is fulfilling my goals very well. He weighed in at 1482lb on May 9 and his weight has distributed really evenly with a wide top and deep hip. Thank You to Lonesome View Farms and Keith & Shirley Foot for purchasing my steer last year! Through my time in 4-H I have learned about community engagement , leadership and communication. Hello, my name is Keaton Duque, this is my 4th year in 4-H with the East Sounding Creek 4-H Beef Club. This year I have kept very busy with my black Simmental Cross market steer, a heifer project and a carcass project. This year I have really enjoyed watching my market steer grow, he’ s gained very well and I get excited to see the scale every time he gets on it.

Fallyn Duque

Hello, my name is Fallyn Duque, this is my 4th year in 4-H with the East Sounding Creek 4-H Beef Club, but, this is my very 1st year with a market steer project, having a large steer to lead around has been very intimidating, but I sure lucked out with my quiet Simmental Cross calf, who earned his name Sir Licks A Lot….. he was my pick for 4-H cause as a calf he came right up to me and licked my coat. The highlight of my year this year has been winning Jr. Reserve Grand Champion in the 4-H division at the Oyen Beef Expo.

Brianna Lyster

My name is Brianna Lyster this is my 3rd year in 4-H. My steer, "Diesel" is a thick tan Charolais steer and he comes from a really good cow and bull. My steers rate of gain is over 4 lbs a day and he should weigh around 1,550 lbs by sale day. I chose him because he was a steer that stuck out to me and he was pretty quiet. I would like to thank Hanna Motor Products in Hanna for buying my Grand Champion steer last year. I look forward to seeing you in Oyen at the Crossroads Centre on Saturday, June 8 at show and sale.

Sadie Rude

I also serve as club vice president as well as district rep and regional rep which means that I attend the district and regional meetings and report back new business to both our district and our club. My steer’s name is Ted and he is a Hereford/ Angus cross. What makes him unique to me is that he was actually a calf born from one of my former 4-H cows named Panda. Ted has been a great steer and an easy guy to show. Earlier this year he had a strong showing at the Crossroads Beef Expo. Ted is a moderate sized steer that has gained well and will provided some tasty, nutritious beef to his buyer. Many thanks to Danny Povaschuk for purchasing my steer last year.

Frank has been a good eater which also means he’s a good gainer and will hopefully finish close to 1500lbs. I would like to extend a thank you to my last year’s buyer Sunrise Auto from Drumheller.

Any meat production herd no matter whether it is beef, lambs or swine depends on strong female production. This year Hanna Rangeland members Ocean Sheerschmidt, Leevi Quashnick and Rextin Griffith all grew their herds of Ewe Lambs, which are female sheep. Ocean Scheerschmidt also raised a Yearling Ewe who has lambed this spring.

We had 4 Junior Members and 4 Cleaver Kids interested in the crafts this year. They all did amazing on their projects and you will be able to see some of them on display at the show June 7 & 8!

Great work Dalton, Kaydence, Kaylie-Ann, Rylyn, Kaleb, Porter and Laynee !

Dryland Multi 4H Club has had another great year! Our club has grown once again, and we are so proud of all the members on their accomplishments both with their livestock and with their public speaking accomplishments! We have 23 members and 2 Cleaver Kids this year. This year there are 22 Market Steers on offer at Show & Sale. There are also 7 Heifers; 2 - 2-Year Old & 3 Carcass projects. Once again, we have members raising pheasants for release later in the fall. The members in our club are from Youngstown, Cereal and Hanna areas. Our members would like to thank all our previous buyers for their years of continued support, and we look forward to this year and seeing all the familiar faces and hopefully some new ones.

Keegan Conners

My name is Keegan Conners and this is my 9th year of 4-H. My calf’s name is Plug because he is a very big boy. This year I picked my 4-H calf because of his mature build from the start in November. He has a very well structured foot, he is very long throughout the top line and he has a very big butt to finish his build. At weigh in on November 12, 2023, he weighed 716 lbs and on May 8th he weighed 1390 lbs. He has been a very nice calf to work with the whole time. I would like to thank my last year buyer, Linda Simpson.

Kiptyn Conners

Hi my name is Kiptyn and my calf's name is Ben. Ben is an Angus steer. He weighed 680 lbs November 12, 2023 and as of May 8th he weighed 1380 lbs. I first picked Ben because he had a long body and lots of depth to him. He just seemed to stick out from the rest of the herd! Ben was pretty tame off the start but then when I got him in a pen he got a little crazy. After I put the halter on a couple times he quieted down. He can be stubborn but when you get him going he leads really well. After I broke my leg I wasn't able to work with him. Thankfully, my sister and brother have been keeping him going by working with him for me. I would like to thank my last year buyers, Blue Rock Animal Nutrition and the Limo Buyer Group, for buying my calf.

Elizabeth Brady

My name is Elizabeth Brady and I’m in grade 11 at J.C Charyk School in Hanna. This is my sixth year in beef 4-H and I really enjoy it. My steer this year is a Black Angus steer named Diesel. He is a February born calf and has grown into a very nice steer. I have taken Diesel to many junior shows including Medicine Hat Junior Show, Heartland Cattleman’s Classic in Stettler, the Chinook Show in Claresholm and the Old’s Cry Show. I am planning on taking him to the Cody Sibbald Leacy Classic in Beechy, Sk. and the Country Classic Junior Show in Josephburg at the end of May. I am very proud of all the hard work and care I have put into my steer this past season and hope to see you at Show and Sale on June 8 in Oyen.

Ryley Bignell

My name is Ryley Bignell. It's my first year in 4-H. My Steers name is Wayne. May 8th he weighs 1255lbs! He is a Simmental X Red Angus picked out from our home herd. He is a calm steer.

Josh Paisley

Hi my name is Josh Paisley, and this is my first year selling a calf in 4-H. My favorite part about 4-H is making friends and doing hi-way clean up. I’m really happy about my calf's personality, he’s nice and calm and good to lead around. I hope to see you at the Show and Sale.

Jillayna MacMillan

This is my 4th year in Market Steer, Heifer and Pheasant 4-H. I was a Cleaver Kid for 3 years before I finally got to become a “real” member. My steer and heifer are both home-raised, my steer is a Limo and my heifer is a Simmental/ Angus. My steer weighed 576 at weigh-in and no weighs approximately 1300. My heifer weighed 662 at weigh-in and now weighs approximately 1130. Simba and Lulu are super sweet and love to get attention, I’m going to miss Simba so much when I have to sell him. A huge thank you to R & L Farms for buying my last year 4-H steer. Make sure to try to make it to our 4-H Show and Sale in Oyen, Alberta June 7-8, 2024!

Evangeline Miller

Hello, my name is Evy Miller and this is my first year in 4-H. Let me introduce you to my good looking steer, Jimmy. My steer has a kind, loving, and friendly energy. He loves being groomed and eating. Jimmy is the first steer to the feeder, which is not surprising, due to the fact that he weighed 1442lbs as of May 1st, with a daily gain of 4.7lbs/ day. This year, I have learned a phenomenal amount of information about feeding, grooming, and trimming. In addition, I won 2nd at 4-H Provincial Speak-Offs. I am excited to participate in my first Show and Sale on June 8th.

Brady Bignell

Hi, my name is Brady Bignell. This is my second year in 4-H with the Dryland Multi 4-H Club. My calf’s name is Jimmy. Jimmy is a Simmental X Red Angus Steer from our family herd. I have had lots of fun in 4-H this year and hope to see you at show and sale at Oyen Crossroads Center June 8th!!!!

Country isn’t cowboy boots and daisy dukes, It’s a farmers tan and calloused hands.

Kate Brady

My name is Kate Brady and I am in grade 8 at JCC school in Hanna. This is my third year in beef 4-H and I really enjoy it. My steer this year is a Charolais named Jimmy. Zoey Sinclair

My name is Zoey Sinclair and this is my second year in 4-H. I have enjoyed spending time in the corrals with my calf, who I’ ve named Bob. He was kind of spicy to start with but we’ve worked hard and he has really settled down. I’m looking forward to Show and Sale.

Rodney Laughlin

Hi! My name is Rodney Laughlin, I'm in grade 6 and this is my 3rd year with a market steer. This year I picked a home raised black Limousine cross steer, named Elvis. He was born last April and I picked him because he has solid frame and a well balanced body. He weighed 1230lbs on May 5th. I'm really looking forward to showing Elvis on June 8th in Oyen. Thank you to Deer River Ranching for buying my steer last year.

Kale MacMillan

This is my 8th year in 4-H. This year I have a steer, heifer and a two year old project. My steer isa home-raised Simmental/angus and my heifer and two year old are home-raised Simmentals. My steer was born on March 4th and weighed in at 722 pounds. He now weighs 1375 on May 7th. I am also in Pheasant 4-H, we have 2000 chicks. I would like to thank Westview Co-op for buying my steer last year and we welcome everyone to come and join us for our Hanna and District Show and Sale this June 7th and 8th

Taylor Conners

My name is Taylor Conners and this is my eighth year showing a market steer in the Dryland Multi 4-H club. My steer Mustachio, is a big built red limo cross steer. I picked this steer for his big frame, and length of spine. On November 12, 2023 at weigh in, he was 748 lbs and on May 8th he weighed 1370 lbs. Come show time he is going to be a big solid built steer. I would like to thank Murray Moench/Hanna Motor Products for buying my steer last year.

Taigan Miller

My name is Taigan Miller, I would like you to meet my steer, Marshmallow! He is a Char/Simmental Cross. Right off the bat, Marshmallow was extremely calm, friendly, and we instantly had a sticky bond, just like a roasted marshmallow. Pun intended. This is my second year in 4-H and I have learned plenty of new skills, that I hope to show-off at Show and Sale. My favorite activity with Marshmallow, is riding him around the yard! As of May 1st, my steer weighed a whooping 1440lbs, with a daily gain of 4.5 lbs/day. If you are looking for some tasty beef for your freezer, this is your guy! I am excited to see all the buyers at Show and Sale June 8th!

Lane Laughlin

Hi! My name is Lane Laughlin and this is my first year with a market steer. I was a cleaver for 3 years before this. I’ m really excited to show my 1st market steer this year in Oyen. Liam Paisley

Hi my name is Liam Paisley, and this is my 2nd year in 4-H. My calf is named Bussin. Since I started halter breaking him, he has calmed down so much, and I really enjoy working with him. I can ’t wait to see how he weighs up at the end of the year. See you at Show and Sale.

Chase Bignell

My name is Chase Bignell. I'm in my first year in 4-H. My Steers name is Billy. I picked him from our home herd. He is a Simmental X Red Angus. He is the early bird that gets first to the food. He is a nice calm steer and really likes scratches.

Mandy Conners

My name is Mandy Conners and this is my 7 th year in 4-H. This year I have chosen a Limousin/ Angus cross steer. I chose this steer because he has a good frame, deep body, and big bones and could hold a lot of meat. The reason I like 4H is that I am always learning new things and skills to help me in the future. The best part of the 4H year is the show and sale because I get to see my friends and showcase my animals. I will also be showing a black Limousin/Angus heifer. Thank you to Linda Simpson for buying my steer last year. Please join us for our show and sale on June 8, 2024.

Logan Miller

Hi my name is Logan Miller and this is my ninth year in 4-H and this year i have a purebred speckle park steer i named Ice Cube. I bought this steer off of KFC farms at Olds. He was born in March and it was November 5 when I bought him. Ice Cube is nice to lead for me and I have washed him, blown him off and used the show stick on him. At weigh in he weighed 713 and the last time I weighed him was March 30th and he weighed 1019 lbs and should finish at around 1300 lbs by sale day. If you're looking for a tasty steer that will be exactly him.

Kennedi MacMillan

This is my 6th year of 4-H and 3 years before that with cleaver. My siblings and I are raising over 2000 pheasants which we’re very excited about - 600 of which are a part of the Pheasant 4H Program! My 4-H steer I have chosen this year is a home-raised Simmental/Angus who weighed in at 656 pounds and he’s now approximately 1350 pounds. My heifer is a purebred Simmental from Madge Simmentals who weighed in at 910 pounds and she’ s growing beautifully. My two 4-H projects have been very easy to train for show day. I would like to give a big thank you to Plover Lake Ranches for buying my steer “Bandit” in 2023. Hope to see everyone at our Show and Sale.

I never lose.
Either I win or I learn.

Kelly Laughlin Dexter Miller

Hi, my name is Dexter Miller and this is my second year in 4-H. This year, I have a tasty treat for you all. I would love for you to meet T-Bone! This hefty Simmental weighed a powerful 1400lbs as of May 1st, with a daily gain of 3.55 lbs/day. T-Bone is an easy going and extremely friendly steer, which has been steadily filling his frame out. I am positive that he will look amazing in your freezer and pleasantly surprise your taste buds! I would love to invite you to come and support 4-H at our annual Show and Sale June 8th!

Hi!! We are Brandt Grover and Brooklyn Laughlin and we are both in our 2nd year of the Cleaver Program with the Dryland Multi Club! We are a small group but we have lots of fun! We enjoy getting to be a part of so many fun activities with our club, like Christmas Parties, Skiing, Mock Show. Some of the older kids in our club take the time to teach us what they've learned about grooming and showing cattle! One of the best parts of 4-H is showing our cleaver calves at the end of the year. Hope to see you at the district show and sale in June!!

This year we are raising another 600 pheasant chicks with Pheasant 4-H and have been fortunate to add another 1450 to this number through the 4H and ACA collaborative program as well. Through an agreement with the ACA (Alberta Conservation Association) members purchase day old chicks from McFarlane Pheasants in Wisconsin. We raise the birds until fully feathered and grown and market the mature birds at the end of the program in Sept/Oct – mostly for release, hunts and dog training programs. We were very successful last year as we provided the males to hunting groups with the ACA near Medicine Hat and sold the hens for hunting/ dog training purposes near Nanton. The pheasants were a very healthy bunch and we enjoyed watching them grow into such large, healthy birds with beautiful coloring. This year we look forward to another wonderful experience and plan to market the finished birds in the same fashion! We welcome everyone to come and see our program as we continue to grow and learn.
