Welcome I’d like to start by saying thank you for showing interest in our bulls, whether you are a repeat buyer or someone who finds the red and black Charolais intriguing we welcome you to look at our catalogue, website or come down and tour the pen.

Once again, this year we have a good set of bulls to offer with quite possibly the largest offering of purebred registered black Charolais bulls in Canada. These boys are grown out slowly over 2 winters and so their weigh in numbers might not seem exciting, but we certainly performance evaluate them to see which bulls shine on a back rounder ration. We hope our bulls will have less feet and leg issues and not melt away after their first breeding season because of the way we develop them!

Our bulls will be selling on DLMS Farmgate online auction again this year. Mark, Joanne and their staff are very helpful and easy to work with, so if you haven’t already, take a browse and look at some bulls in the upcoming sales. If there’s any long in the tooth cowboy’s out there like myself who don’t know how or just have no desire to figure out that computer online bidding thing, just give us (actually Maria) or Mark a call and we could help you out or bid on your behalf in a confidential honorable fashion.

Online Bidding- Online sale begins on 8am March 10 and closes on March 11 with racehorse close starting at 7pm March 11, 2025.

Catalogue Errors: If errors are found after catalogue is printed, they will be corrected on the DLMS Farmgate website and will take precedence over printed material in catalogue.

Videos of the Bull will be posted on Farmgate Timed Auction Sale page as well as dmlivestock.ca website.

Payment - Invoices will be sent out by email to address used to bid during sale. Payment will be accepted by cash, cheque or etransfer. (emaildmlivestock03@gmail.com) Insurance- Bulls become buyers responsibility at time of sale , insurance is not required but is encouraged.

All bulls will be semen tested and vet inspected prior to the sale.

Certificate of Registration- All bulls are Registered by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry will be transferred to each buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery- Bulls will be delivered/picked up within 2 weeks after sale unless prior arrangements have been made. We will deliver bulls for .75/km for up to 300 Km. Further than that we will help assist in finding a ride for your bull.

DM Livestock may retain semen interests or partial walking rights on any bull in the sale.

USA Buyers:

For our American friends, the exchange rate will be displayed on the DLMS Farmgate Auction Page for reference on sale day. Bidding will be done in Canadian Dollars with an exchange rate provided on final invoice if payment will be made in US Funds.

We guarantee our bulls to pass the export testing to be exportable. The new buyer is responsible for all additional testing costs required for export. Seller will arrange deliver bull to the nearest point of entry at sellers convenience.

Buyer is responsible for all brokerage, crossing & tariff cost associated with getting the bull in to the US. Please contact us ahead of the sale we are more the happy to discuss with you what the specific costs will be and how arrangements can be made for exporting of sale bulls.

1. Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS Farm Gate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions.

This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.

2. You can choose your favorite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.

3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot.

This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.

4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In Most cases the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time the computer will declare the sale finished.

5. Following the sale, DLMS will invoice all buyers in the sale, please contact Darryl or Maria with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases.

FAQ WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

Power, Power, Power!

There were many coffee time discussions on whether we would even offer 10L for sale. The final decision to sell comes from knowing we used him on a select few females as a yearling and are confident that he will leave his mark on our herd.

An absolute standout on feed, he blew away the rest of his pen mates by over half a pound daily gain. That has been the largest margin I have seen in bulls on our program. Huge top, heavy muscled, extreme length makes 10L a definite herd bull prospect.

The very first black purebred bull born on our farm. We used him as a yearling with the result being 5 black bulls in this sale. Looking back, probably should have retained him and used him for a couple more seasons but we were excited to start selling black Charolais so he was our feature bull in 2023.

Very consistent bull for throwing calving ease with lots of length in his calves.

SWR GREEN GIANT 32G

SWR 32G is a bull we purchased from Mutrie Farms. We liked him for his added depth and his easy fleshing ability. His sons on feed have exceeded our expectations on their performance.

Comes out of a terrific cow.

Meet Our Family

After 21 years of marriage, we have many blessings to praise God for, our family and simple farm lifestyle being at the top of the list. Darryl has managed the Smoky Burn Community pasture for the past 15 years and as of 2019 the job became more of a family run operation with Maria becoming the full-time rider and the boys helping on the summer breaks. We know that the boys will all one day follow their own dreams, but for now we cherish these times.

Otto is our eldest son who has a passion for hunting, trapping and the outdoors! His last three summers have been spent in the Yukon as an outfitting wrangler.

Wyatt just completed grade 12 and has a strong interest in horses as well as our purebred operation.

He has a memory like his dad and can rattle off most information on almost any animal on the farm or at the pasture without looking at the record book.

Cole is currently in grade 10, has a desire to work hard at succeeding in anything he does.

Enjoys the farm, hunting, welding and Football!!

Beau is in grade 4, and does everything he can to keep up to his brothers.
