Welcome
We are very excited to present to you the line up of bulls, heifers, and first-calf heifer pairs that we have on offer for you at our 12th anniversary sale. We went through one of the longest winters we have see in some time last year, whether you were calving in early January or late March, Mother Nature was playing a brutal role. It took a lot of extra bedding and feed, but the cattle came through strong and it shows in this year’s line up. We have grown our two-year-old program and are thrilled about the addition of the black Simmentals this year. As for the family side of things, we were overjoyed as Becky & Chad Lorenz exchanged wedding vows at the end of June. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding held at the Lorenz Ranch that could not have gone better if we had ordered it. From Becky riding in on the horse drawn team to the preacher finishing the ceremony just in time for everyone to congregate in the sale barn to miss the rain, it was all great. The couple have purchased a farm west of Innisfail where they have started their new journey together. The only cattle show we entered this year was our favorite, the Medicine Hat Pen Show in mid December. It is always a great time to visit with fellow exhibitors, customers and friends whether touring through the barns or attending the Friday night steak fry. Friday night we were very excited to win the Reserve Champion Purebred Breeders Commercial Open Heifer Class. A huge thank you to T-Down Trailers Ltd for their sponsorship and to everyone that voted to give us a double win on Saturday. Our calendar year bull, Red CD Big Time 6F, won the people’s choice for that class and Red CD Dawson 254E was selected as the Yearling Bull Cattlemen’s Choice. Both of these bulls are available in this year’s sale. Again, the sale is held at home. The facility is heated, and all bulls and females will be on display for you beside the barn the day of the sale. If you are unable to attend the sale it will be broadcasted live through DLMS for your viewing and bidding pleasure. At any time before the sale drop by or give us a call, we would love to take the time to discuss your purchasing needs and the animals that will work best for you and your operation. With a shortage of cattle, ranchers using less feed than last year, and the weather cooperating much better, it looks like we may see a steady increase in the cattle market. SIGHT UNSEEN PURCHASE If you are unable to attend the sale give Doug, or any of the sale team a call and they will personally go over the bulls and make the recommendations that best suits your program. Your needs will be represented in a very professional and confidential manner. We will make sure you are 100% satisfied with your purchase. HEALTH & FERTILITY All bulls were treated on August 24 with Bovishield Gold 5 and UltraBac 7 Somubac then on December 22 with Bovimectin pour on. All bulls are fully tested and guaranteed. Scrotal measurements, semen evaluations and current weights will be available on sale day. All our bulls are hand feed each day by bucket making them quiet and easy handling. DELIVERY OPTIONS Leaving Bulls at the Farm: If you are not prepared to take your bull home at sale time, we are more than happy to keep them on feed free of charge up till May 1st. We highly recommend bulls be insured by the purchaser if remaining at the farm as ownership transfers to the buyer at time of sale. Delivery of bulls: We provide free trucking for the bulls up to a 200 mile radius, beyond that we will work with you to have your bull delivered. Delivery of Heifers: Due to a very limited corral space we require the heifers to be removed as soon as possible. If they cannot be removed sale day, or very shortly after, let us know and we will help you make arrangements. EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES - EPDs EPD’s are one tool to help and try to predict each bull against its own contemporary group. A note to remember - EPD’s PERDICT group average and offspring’s performance, they DO NOT predict individual performance or weights. They are a value to help predict how the future progeny of an animal will perform relative to the progeny of other animals in the same breed. The EPD numbers will change as more data is collected and are never 100% accurate. Look at the EPDs, but be sure to view actual birth and weaning weights and come look at the shape and size of the bull. Here is a calf that puts together so many characteristics of a future herd bull. This year we are very happy to present black Simmentals. This moderate made 88 pound calf has plenty of length of body, depth and thickness. Sired by an outcross calving ease prospect that is bigtopped and deep made in a smooth made package. Here is a future herd bull that can prove his ability to grow weaning off at 880lbs.
Out of a young, hard working female and in the same sire group, this calf comes with slightly smaller bone and that same calving ease look. His sire, KWA Odyssey, is ranked in the top 3% of the breed in calving ease and top 5% of calving weight trait for the breed.
Hybrid Yearling Bulls We started the Hybrid program because of interest from the commercial rancher wanting a cross into their replacement heifers as well as the steers they sell in the fall. We start with a Red Angus cow base for the consistency and maternal strength that Angus is known for. Each of these bulls presented for sale are sired by JDF Red Tank 87D, the same bull used in our purebred Simmental program, a bull about as soggy and easy fleshing as they come. This is a cross to give you the best of both breeds - moderate frames, predictability, muscle mass and total performance. Now that we have been into this program for a few years we have seen much success with these Hybrids on a wide range of cow herds.

Hybrid - Looking for a hybrid bull to get out and travel the miles, here he is. Being an April born calf we kept him out of the sale last year. 852E is a very free-moving, good-traveling bull. He is from a purbred Simmental cow bred to a purebred Angus sire. With an 88 pound birthweight he will work everywhere.
