Border Butte Angus Bull Sale - Coutts, AB

Read the footnotes.

“Always read the footnotes, always check the background. Always see the dam.”

While the catalog always gets pieced together rarely does it happen from front to back. What your ipping through is a concoctions of months, hell years in the making. Believe me when I say this introduction started in July after moving a set of pairs with heifer calves in 1-4. Does it include anything from that day driving or riding? Nope not the way it was penned out anyway. ough it stems from that day and that set of cows we are tremendously happy with , it’s actually from this last couple weeks of writing footnotes, clipping and picturing a selection of the bull pen while realizing where it all started and how far the herd has evolved.

We realize someone had a hand in our molding and gave us their advice from which we learned to help start this venture, from our start up, to the insight we’ve developed throughout we hope it’s apparent Our decisions are not spur of the moment. It’s with writing this note post footnotes that our plan is apparent because while the footnotes seem quite repetitive to us it shows us we are accomplishing what we set out for. A balanced trait cow herd based on a strong maternal foundation that has the ability to put functional proli c daughters back in the herd while their bulls have all the power and performance to work in herds asking the same of their program.

So take the lessons given by those who have in uenced you the most, ask the questions as it’s the best way to improve.

Always ask to see “the footnotes”.

Many may know Justin as our Nephew from Hays, Ab, Judy and Brads son. Justin

has been helping with seasonal activities since as long as I can remember. Starting when he had to abandon his little quad in a cattle move over 12 years ago. While he was too small to know back than he has grown a lot and has been paying attention to the genetics and the performance of calves over the last few. is became evident last year as Justin was one of the Phone men.  He has a good eye and can recognize the attributes of a good one. He as well can give an honest second opinion to the bulls as he is the one we have out to run these bulls through for branding day, clipping day, video day and before sale clean up.  He is no stranger to our pens and pastures that’s for sure.

A bull we have become so con dent in and excited about with his 3rd set of calves on the way. When we took the plunge to buy Tahoe in 2023 we couldn’t have any idea what we were going to get until his very small o ering made it to sale day and breeding time. While he arrived late and we only got a small sample of progeny in 2024 we liked what we saw. Fast forward to this season and the overload of masculinity, paired with calving ease features, outstanding foot structure and overall eye appeal in his females. Backed by a maternal program at Wieseler’s and a dam that has now been put into their embryo program. is bulls presence in the pasture and in his calves in this pen are undeniable with these calves being of light birth for that calving ease built right in. e rugged design of these calves will o er those top end steers while making his females the sought a er kind.

Possessing the absolutes that we require when we look to purchase a herd sire. His tidy, and di erent twist of pedigree enhanced the appeal. A very unique cross with the Pedersen Jackson bull and the edford bull sold to Minburn Angus in 2024.Used lightly here, he’s passed along the real look about him. at calving ease bull presence is strong in his makeup and shines through in his pro le. His 76 lbs start is the proof in the pudding that he would work for the heifer pen. Going to o er the gorgeous yet powerful makeup of the Delia line with that of the Barbra line.

We bust out the old semen on this one. And it highlights the strengths 63B adds to a maternal gem while housing a performance minded calf. While there is still a lot of time ahead of him this calf is on the track to produce daughters that go the distance with a great demeanor and a willingness to produce.
