Welcome to the 12th Annual Anderson Bred Heifer Sale
What a time to be in the cattle business! As I go around from farm to farm this past year, whether it is for semen testing, pregnancy checks, calvings, heifer palpations or any of the other things that require a veterinarians attention, it has been fantastic to hear so many positives. The market is good, the bad cows are gone, the old chute is updated, the upgrades for the next generation are installed. I wish my crystal ball would tell me how long this will last because it is so good to see so many people working together, smiling and forgetting about the uncertainty that troubles our days. It is a time to dream, it is a time to build dreams. It is a time to build cow herds.
The Anderson Bred Heifer Sale is an example of what can happen when you dare to build on a dream. The program continues to increase the quality year after year, and the Anderson Bred Heifer sale has become a winter highlight when considering bred heifers to purchase in all of Canada. Scott and his team passionately raise and develop the heifers on offer to their absolute best ability and no corners are cut!
The heifers selected for the sale have been on a full mineral program since selected as heifer calves. The heifers are backgrounded and developed on a growing ration where a chelated, macro premix is force fed to ensure proper micro minerals and vitamins are consumed. Force feeding the premix daily ensures that every heifer is receiving the macro premix. The heifers also have access to free choice mineral; proof of how Scott and his team continue to go above and beyond. The heifers graze throughout the summer, where they are provided with a high-quality pasture macro premix to ensure they continue to receive essential vitamin and minerals. Having the heifers on a year-round mineral program supports immunity defense and encourages their overall growth and performance. The nutrition and development of the heifers, along with the entire cow herd, is continually being monitored through feed analysis and formulated rations to meet ever-changing environmental and seasonal conditions and to further enhance the animal’s overall health.
