“Not all bulls are created equal and it’s our job to identify superior genetics.”

Fleshing Ability:

One of our customers biggest compliments is how well our bulls maintain condition after they get them home. This is not only Development but more so Genetics.

Each bull is graded on a scale of 1-5 following the first phase of our Development Test. The bulls carrying the most condition will receive a 5. Those bulls carrying slightly less flesh will be graded lower. This will enable buyers to select bulls that will better fit their environment. Our easy fleshing bulls will sire females that breed quicker and stay in the herd longer.

Big Country Bulls:

Although we strive to bring you gentle bulls, some cattle don’t like being alone after being rasied in these big groups in big pastures. Please consider this with bulls marked “Big County” on the video.

Building Performance Bulls.

We understand your bull purchase is a big investment. Bulls are athletes and have to be developed accordingly. We have worked hard to create a program to keep bulls growing without falling apart when you get them home. This performance test is designed to show their genetic differences while preparing them from longevity. They will not be pampered, over fat, and will know how to utilize forges when they go to work. Much effort has been devoted to providing thorough and accurate performance data on the entire sale offering.

DATA KEY

Please make note that many of the animals were in different contemporary groupings at weaning; therefore it is not fair to compare birth, weaning and yearling weights from one herd to another.

EPDs

Expected Progeny Difference (EPDs) is the best estimate of an animals genetic merit for a particular trait. It takes into account the animals own performance compared with its contemporaries and the performance of its relatives compared against their contemporaries.

Calving Ease (CE) Generally represent fewer unassisted births. Higher the number the better.

Birth Weight (BW) EPD Predicts calf size compared to other sires. The lower the number the smaller the calf.

Weaning Weight (WW) EPD Predicts overall growth potential from birth to Weaning. Higher the number the better. Yearling Weight (YW) The EPD predicts overall growth potential. Higher the number the better.

Milk (MK) Predicts the maternal contribution to weaning weight of the calf

through milk production and other environmental factors.

Scrotal Size (SC) Actual scrotal circumference records, in centimeters, are adjusted for age of bull 365-days.

Ribeye Area (REA) Ultrasound scanning measurement of rib eye area. The EPD is a prediction of Total Muscle.

Intramuscular Fat (IMF) Measured using ultrasound scan technology. IMF is highly correlated to marbling

Indexes

Terminal Index ($T) is designed to be used when bulls are mated to cows in a strictly terminal system. The EPDs that are used in the calculation of $T are YW, REA, IMF and Fat.

Maternal Index ($M) is designed to balance weaning weight with cow maintenance and fertility. The index includes the EPDs for BW, WW, Milk, YW and SC.

Feed Efficiency Index ($FE) Balances post weaning growth (the growth from weaning to yearling) with the RFI EPD. This index is designed to select for animals that excel in feed efficiency and post weaning growth.

Test Data

Weight Per Day of Age (WDA) The animals Weight Divided their days of age at that date.

Average Daily Gain (ADG) Average Daily gain over the test.

Current Weight (CURRENT WT) Weight taken prior to catalog being printed. Approximately 40 day before sale.

Fleshing Ability (FLESHING) The natural Ability for the animal to maintain condition in a working environment. Graded from 1-5. 5 being the best.

Within sixty (60) days after seller’s notification of the failed BSE test, buyer and seller shall identify a mutually agreeable licensed veterinarian or technician certified by a licensed veterinarian to perform another BSE on the bull at the buyer’s expense. The results of the test shall be deemed final and conclusive of this matter and binding on buyer and seller. If, in the opinion of said veterinarian or technician, the bull is unable to pass a BSE and be confirmed a satisfactory potential breeder, he shall so certify in writing to the seller and the buyer which shall include the official form used by the Society of Theriogenology or the official BBU Breeding Soundness Evaluation form. In such event the buyer may return the bull to the farm of seller, provided the bull is in good condition and in compliance with the health requirements of the seller’s state, for a refund of the full purchase price.
