“THERE IS A TIME FOR EVERYTHING” Last year we began to downsize our operation with our first bred heifer sale. Since the sale we have had communicated with many of our customers. It was very satisfying to receive so much positive feedback from both previous and new customers. As we continue to scale back we realize the best legacy we can leave the cattle industry and the Gelbvieh breed, is to put top shelf, Chimney Butte genetics, to work in several herds throughout the industry. These heifers have been culled hard since birth, every one we are offering is good enough to come back to our herd. These are genetic packages that were destined to keep our herd moving into the future. We are offering every A-I bred heifer we have for this sale. Nothing held back. This is the only way we can assure our customers that they are being offered our best genetics. All animals were pregnancy ultrasounded with fetal age and sex by Mandan Veterinary Clinic on August 26, 2020. A-I of the heifers was over 3 days, June2,3, and 4. Using the 285 day gestation table, approximate due dates are March 14,15 and 16.

All the heifers were raised and bred on this ranch. Nearly every heifer has several generations of females that have worked in our herd. Some of the heifers are A-I sired, some are ET calves. We held no A-I heifer back.

As we become more experienced in life, in other words, we get older, I can relate to a statement an older customer made to me, many years ago. “EACH YEAR THE CATTLE GET QUICKER, AND THE FENCES GET HIGHER”. With that in mind, we will cull anything that does not have an attitude or disposition for us to work with safely. These are not pets and they run in large pastures with little human contact most of the time. We reserve the right to cull any animal up to sale time. Culled animals are sold for slaughter. Gelbvieh cattle have historically been a docile breed, and finally other breeds are recognizing this as a very important trait.

The heifers were brought in from pasture in early October. They are on free choice long hay and 2 pounds of corn a day. The corn is hand carried to the feed bunks, we feel this is a good way to introduce human interaction with the animals. They have received Preg-Gard before breeding, and have had free choice salt and mineral available at all times. Over the years our females have been accepted and are working throughout most of the United States. We have also placed animals in Mexico and Canada. We have always embraced the management philosophy of “THE PROCESS OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT.” We have worked hard to create a reputation for honest hard working females that will adapt to most environments.

Our mission has been and continues, “TO PROVIDE GENETICS THAT HELP INCREASE OUR CUSTOMERS PROFITS.” New sale location will be at the ranch this year. The high selling purebred bull at the 2020 Rippe bull sale. We brought him in for outcross genetics that will compliment our program. He came off the pasture in good shape, worked in large pastures, and still maintained good condition. We feel he will be a great addition to our program.

We have used C134 for several years. He works well on heifers or cows. Both bulls and Heifers have sold well and have performed well for customers. Reports from breeders using him in their A-I programs have been good. Co-owned with Thorstenson Gelbvieh.

A hard to find “black” son of Cornhusker Red. He is very clean and trim up front, with an exception rear end, butt, quarter and hip. Co owned with Al Knapp, Triple K Gelbvieh.

A Choco son we raised, was the high selling bull in our 2020 bull sale and we were offered the opportunity to buy him back. He will continue the Choco legacy in our herd. His sire Choco has performed very well in our program both on heifers and older cows.
