Annual Production Sale March 29, 2025 1:00 pm • Hanover, IL
Commercially raised seedstock built for both commercial and purebred production and longevity.
Greetings,
Welcome to Wildberry Farms 2025 annual bull and bred heifer sale.
Thank you for taking the time to look through our catalog. We know you receive many sale books in the mail this time of year and there are many places where you can purchase bulls. We take our job seriously as a seed stock supplier. When you invest in Wildberry cattle you get the benefit of a program over 45 years in development.
If you have an interest in any of the cattle in the sale, please don’t hesitate to call either Ben or Dean. Visitors are always welcomed and encouraged to view the cattle at the farm prior to the sale. From the time the bulls are weaned until they are delivered to your farm, they are on a high roughage diet of grass hay, chopped haylage and silage. This slow development produces sound athletic bulls ready to work in your pastures for several years.
We will continue to develop the bulls after the sale and deliver them in June free within the first 200 miles. As always, the bulls carry a first-year breeding guarantee. Your satisfaction remains our top priory, and we appreciate the opportunity to earn your business.
The Team at Wildberry, Jim Berry, Ben Lehman, Dean Elder and Jim Boop

The hardest footnote I’ve ever had to write and not sure where to begin on the cow that has forever changed the program here at Wildberry farms. 1st 4 calves totaled over $53,000 revenue including the WBF Limit Up H046 bull that been used here with great success. Last year, after raising WBF Undisputed L078 who sold to TJ Ranch in NE we had to flush her, and did so with incredible success. 50 Frozen IVF eggs were deposited which resulted in 41 pregnancies that will all be on the ground by the time the catalog reaches mailboxes. As far as the cow goes most people don’t believe she is a purebred Simmental when they see her in person. She has to be one of the easiest keeping, biggest middled, widest topped, yet feminine proven purebred females in the country. She has wonderful udder composition, great feet and structure,

EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES (EPDS): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing in what units they are expressed. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, sire A would be expected to sire 15 pounds more weaning weight than sire B. If calving ease was the trait, sire A would be expected to sire 15 percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if sire B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we would expect sire A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes, visit www.Simmental.org.
Listed below are the units in which ASA EPDs are expressed:
ALL-PURPOSE INDEX (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario.
BACK FAT (BF): Inches of carcass backfat at 475 days.
BIRTH WEIGHT (BW): Pounds of birth weight.
CALVING EASE (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
CARCASS WEIGHT (CW): Pounds of carcass weight at 475 days.
DOCILITY (DOC): Percent of offspring receiving a disposition score of 1 (docile).
MATERNAL CALVING EASE (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
MILK (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
MARBLING (MARB): Carcass marbling score at 475 days.
MATERNAL WEANING WEIGHT (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
RIBEYE AREA (REA): Square inches of carcass ribeye at 475 days.
TERMINAL INDEX (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario.
WEANING WEIGHT (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.
YEARLING WEIGHT (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.
YIELD GRADE (YG): Carcass yield grade score at 475 days.
$ INDEXES: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide pieces of the economic puzzle. This is where $ indexes come in. Through well-conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on integrated commercial production. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes:
ALL-PURPOSE INDEX (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
TERMINAL INDEX (TI): Evaluates sires for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.
For more detailed information about EPDs and $indexes, visit: www.Simmental.org
Tattoo: The bulls have a permanent I.D. tattooed in both ears that correspond to the alphanumeric ear tags.
Weights and Ratios: Actual BW weight taken within the first 24 hours of calving. The ratios for birth and weaning weights are taken from the ASA using their contemporary groups. The yearling weight and carcass ratios are figured by us in house, with all the Purebreds in one group and all the Percentage bulls in another group. We feel this gives the most easy to read information and shows how the bulls have done relative to their pen mates.
SC: Scrotal Circumference measured in centimeters adjusted for age.
ULTRASOUND CARCASS
REA: Adjusted yearling ultrasound rib eye area.
%IMF: Adjusted yearling ultrasound for estimated marbling, an indication of quality grade potential.
Back Fat: Measured in hundredths of an inch.
Green Illinois designates bulls safe to use on heifers.
GGP logo designates cattle that have Genomic Enhanced EPDs.
CE: Calving Ease, expressed as a % in deviation from breed average of unassisted calving in two year heifers.
BW: Birth Weight, expressed in pounds as a deviation from breed average.
WW: Weaning Weight, expressed in pounds as a deviation from breed average.
YW: Yearling Weight expressed in pounds as a deviation from breed average.
MCE: Maternal Calving Ease, expressed as a % deviation from breed average of two year old daughters unassisted calving.
Milk: Maternal Milk, expressed in pounds as the deviation in calves weaning weight from breed average from dam’s milking ability only.
MWW: Maternal Weaning Weight, expressed in pounds as the total deviation in calves weaning weight from breed average from dam’s milking ability and growth genetics combined.
STAY: Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.
DOC: Percent of offspring receiving a disposition score of 1 (docile).
CW: Carcass weight, expressed as a % deviation from breed average.
Marb: Deviation in Intramuscular fat from breed average.
%IMF: Intramuscular Fat or Marbling, expressed as a score as in deviation from breed average.
REA: Rib eye area expressed as a % deviation from breed average.

Welcome to the 2025 edition of the Wildberry Farms bull and female sale. Regardless of whether you are a long-time customer of the Berry family or this is your first time evaluating these great genetics, we hope that you are impressed by the value in this offering and the commitment to customer success that are hallmarks of this operation. The commercial bull business here is job 1, but the young pairs and bred heifers are always an annual highlight. Great young registered females, with a guarantee standing right next to them are hard to find and always draw interest.
The Wildberry Farms genetic program centers around balanced trait improvement. Calving ease, growth and carcass traits that deliver industry value are always among the priorities here. Uncompromising maternal trait emphasis however, is what sets Wildberry Farms apart from the rest. Traits like great disposition, no miss udders and feet are the focus here, with the goal of problem free cattle that don’t require extra labor and resources in order to excel.
I am really looking forward to being there on Apr. 26 for the sale and hope to see lots of you there as well. Expect wonderful cattle and a great, low pressure buying experience as always. If you can be there, just give me or any of the team a call for the help you need on sale day. It’s simple, “Great cattle bred by great people is the consistent recipe for customer success at Wildberry Farms and it always will be.”
