1950

Our roots in the Brahman business date back to the early 1950s when Crickett’s grandfather C.W. Schwarz purchased a registered Brahman bull and a small herd of cows from J.D. Hudgins, Inc. in Hungerford, Texas.

1984

In 1984, with “barely two nickels to rub together,” Mike and Crickett took a leap of faith and founded England Cattle Co., raising commercial cattle for 25 years.

In 2010, they reentered the registered Brahman business with a focus on Polled Grey Brahman genetics.

2020

In 10 years, ECC has grown to a herd of 200-plus registered Brahmans with more than 50 representing our established Polled genetics. Today, ECC genetics can be found in the United States as well as in Africa, Australia and Mexico.

ENGLAND CATTLE CO. Dear Fellow Brahman Breeders: It brings me great pleasure to welcome you to England Cattle Co. for the inaugural Brahmans on the Rio Production Sale. My family and I have been preparing for this moment for nearly 10 years now and we are excited to bring you the best of the best of our Polled Brahman genetics in 20 elite lots. Our breeding program is focused on raising quality Polled Brahman cattle. We are eager to share our genetics and successes with you, our fellow breeders, to promote and enhance the Brahman breed.

My wife Crickett and I started England Cattle Co. in 1984, primarily raising Brahman-cross commercial cattle for the better part of 30 years. Even though we have been back in the registered Brahman business for a number of years now, as I reflect on the last decade, I realize it was not by accident but by fate. As many of you can probably attest to, once you have been a part of the Brahman industry, and even if you leave it, there is a huge chance you will return one day. As history has a way of repeating itself, that is exactly where we find ourselves today.

As a young man, I was very lucky to have some of the greatest breeders in the business as mentors. Whether they knew it or not, I greatly looked up to J.A. Clifford, Carlos Guerra, Jerry Simon, The Garcia Families and the breeders that made up the Spirit of ‘46 Sales. Not to mention Pete Abrigo, my longtime AG teacher and

mentor, as well as present day visionaries in the breed like Sam Duplantis, Popo Bazan, Louie Flores, Dr. Richard Forgason and the list goes on and on.

The breeding programs of the breeders I mentioned above have a few things in common: fertility, docility and mothering ability as well as an importance placed on phenotype. These characteristics are ones that they strive to breed for and it is because of their influence that we place importance on these attributes in our own herd.

Our genetic pool consists of bloodlines from some of the leaders in the industry and I believe we are producing what has been in the most demand, “The Cowman’s Kind” — cattle that are functional, productive and, as an added bonus, Polled.

Over the years, our family has traveled worldwide promoting the Brahman breed, giving us the opportunity to meet many breeders who share our common goals. We have been fortunate enough to sell our genetics across the United States as well as overseas as the demand for Polled Brahmans remains strong both foreign and domestic. Here recently, Mexico opened their registry to Polled cattle and breeders are using our proven, Polled genetics to start their herds. With each calf crop, we continue to produce better progeny for our customers and I believe after viewing the offering laid out in this catalog, you will agree.

I do want to take a moment to thank an important group of people that have made this possible, starting with my wife of 38 years, Crickett, who has been my backbone and has continued to believe in me. I want to also thank my sons Benton and Cole who for many years were the main workforce that has taken us to where we are today. Even though Cole and his wife Alyssa have chosen different career paths, their backgrounds and hearts will forever be embedded here. Benton continues to be involved in the ranch and oversees all aspects of the cattle operation. Our newest member (or soon to be) Brooke Prather, Benton’s fiancée, has taken us to a level I never dreamed of getting to but believed in her from day one. To all of my employees, I couldn’t do it without you.

Most of all, I would like to personally say, “thank you” to our customers who believe in our breeding program and who continue to support us by investing in our product. I invite each of you out to our ranch for the sale and Brahman camaraderie party on March 21. I assure you, you are in for a treat whether you are a bidder, a buyer or a fellow breeder who came out to look and appreciate good cattle.

There are many benefits to raising Polled cattle with the main reason being eliminating the need for dehorning. On average, surgical dehorning will range in price from $75 - $150 per head depending on the area. For a 200 head cow herd, ranchers are looking at spending anywhere from $15,000 - $30,000 per year just on the procedure. We plan to change the narrative and help you retain those valuable dollars!

SALE MANAGER Dear Brahman Enthusiasts: We want to thank you for your interest in the England Cattle Co. Brahmans on the Rio Production Sale. This is a big day for the England family and their first production sale to offer the fruits of their labor of the past 10 years.

It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with a family that I am fortunate to call friends. As many of you may know, Mike and his family have committed their life to the Brahman breed since making their initial purchase of registered Brahman cows in 2010.

Since then, they have helped create the Rio Grande Valley Brahman Association, the Brahman Foundation, served in ABBA leadership positions, traveled the globe promoting the Brahman breed and are continuing to improve and promote Polled Brahman cattle.

I have been fortunate to have worked with a number of breeders over the years in selecting and hosting production sales, but I have NEVER been turned loose to select the entire offering as I was this January in preparation for this sale. I can truly say that nothing is being held back and they are offering their best in a variety of lots.

I have already and will continue to receive calls about this offering. The question is always, “Which one should I buy?” The answer is simple. We knew when we planned this sale that we had to “anchor” it with a good one! The female that is likely the most popular in the breed from our program is LMC +S Polled Madonna 274/1. In 2013, we purchased Madonna in the International Brahman Sale. At 28 months of age, Madonna had six heifer calves as a result of an IVF procedure. In this group was +LMC Polled Passion 55/4 who went on to be an International Reserve Grand Champion and was recently inducted into the prestigious ABBA Register of Renown. It should also be noted that in this first calf crop and those to follow that Madonna produced a number of other show winners, donors and herd sires. Sambo is a son of the famed LMC WFF Pistolero and out of the great +Lazy J Miss Samantha cow and is best known in our herd as the sire of two of our herd bulls, ECC El Caporal 301 and ECC Polled Chief 719. First Semen Offering on Ice Man!

Several years ago we saw Mr. 4F Polled Ice Man 3/6 at the International Show on our good friend Louie Flores’ show string. We were highly impressed with the amount of bone and thickness that this bull possessed. After inquiring we found out that he was sired by LMC Polled Sambo 45/0 and out of LMC LF Polled Elma 214/4. If you studied this offering and have read through our thoughts on the cattle you realize that we are extremely high on both Sambo and Elma so we were estatic when Louie gifted us 1/2 interest in this great bull that combined these proven genetics. We have already started breeding Ice Man and think that he will cross well on and complement our Authority and Ambassador 56/0 daughters due to his pedigree, build and outstanding performance that is moderate for BW and high for Growth. This will be the first public offering of semen on this sire. The genetics do not come any more proven!

Only the Second Offering of Bardia Semen in the USA! In 2016 we traveled to Australia for the World Brahman Congress. While there, we visited Eureka Creek Brahmans and saw Bardia Ambassador 170.

We were highly impressed with the bull due to his structure, muscle, length, pigmentation, and overall balance. We then saw some of his progeny at the show and knew that even though we had a heavy influence of his sire in our program Bardia could still play a role. After receiving the semen in the USA, Bardia was named the 2017 Australian Brahman Sire of the Year and then in 2018 sired the BEEF Week Champion Female. We have used Bardia on a limited basis due to our heavy Ambassador influence but several of his offspring have made our showstring and overall have exceeded our expectations. You can view lot 5 in this sale to see the type cattle that he is siring. This is only the second time that this semen has been sold in the USA!

Sale Terms &

CONDITIONS BIDDING

Each animal on which there are two or more bids will be sold to the highest bidder.

TERMS

All sales are final. All cattle will be paid for immediately following the sale, unless prior arrangements have been made. All purchases will be settled for in U.S. funds by cash, cashier’s check or personal check with bank letter of guarantee. No drafts will be accepted.

Checks must be made payable to England Cattle Co. All buyers must register in person at the sale office or online with Cattle in Motion to receive a buyer number and other important information.

DISPUTES

The auctioneer in charge will settle any disputes as to bids and his decision on such matters will be final.

BREEDERS GUARANTEE

Every animal in this sale is, to the best of the breeder’s knowledge, free from any disease and are all sound. Pairs and bred females will be considered breeders without further guarantee. Buyer has 30 days from the date of the sale to have an accredited veterinarian check pregnancy status of bred females. Open or exposed females will be guaranteed by the seller to be a breeder. If an animal fails to breed it may be returned to the seller in good condition. Seller reserves the right to try said animal for six months and if it proves to be a breeder, return it at the buyer’s expense. If the animal proves to be a non-breeder, an animal of comparable rank or credit on the purchase of another animal will be offered.

HEALTH

All necessary health papers will be furnished in order for the cattle to be shipped anywhere.

TRANSPORTATION

It is the responsibility of the buyer to make all shipping and transportation arrangements. All cattle must be picked up from England Cattle Co. (ECC) within 30 days of the sale. Any cattle left at ECC after 30 days will be subject to a daily feeding and management charge of $15 per day, unless prior arrangement have been made. Cattle purchased within a 150 mile radius of Mercedes, Texas will be delivered at no charge. Transportation services will be offered the day of the sale. We greatly appreciate our generous bidders and buyers. Contact sale management to discuss shipping arrangements.

LIABILITIES

All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk and England Cattle Co. and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accident that may occur. England Cattle Company or sale management accepts no liability for the animals after they are sold.

The terms and guarantees listed on this page shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller of each animal sold.

Announcements from the auction box will take precedence over the printed matter in this catalog and all other announcements made online or otherwise.

LOT-SPECIFIC TERMS

Lot 1: England Cattle Co. (ECC) and K-K Cattle Co. (K-K) maintains full possession of LMC +S Polled Madonna 274/1.

ECC/K-K will deliver 274/1 to TransOva Genetics for embryo work. LMC +S Polled Madonna 274/1 is to remain on ECC / K-K property for the remainder of her life, only leaving to be flushed per mutually agreed upon buyer agreement. Buyer will receive pick of the first three flushes scheduled for 2020. After first flush, buyer reserves the right to every third flush on 274/1.

Buyer will be responsible for all respective flush costs including but not limited to setup fees, procedure fees and recips. Buyer will maintain ownership of all embryos collected during their respective flush and in turn any calves produced from the flush. Buyer cannot resell their flush or any embryos produced from the flush. Only live calves may be sold. ECC/K-K retains all natural calves to offset the costs associated with board, vet expenses, transportation and other expenses.

Lot 2: ECC will provide buyer with three (3) frozen embryos.

Purchase price will be per embryo. Upon calving, buyer will be granted a maximum of three (3) breeding certificates. Embryos MUST be picked up within 60 days of sale.

Lot 3: D Bar Miss 768/1 will be available for aspiration up to 60 days following the sale. ECC will deliver 768/1 to Trans Ova for procedure. All fees associated with the flush will be at the buyers expense. ECC guarantees six (6) transferable embryos.

Upon calving, ECC will provide buyers with breeding certificates at no additional charge.

Lot 4: Buyer reserves the right to first pick of our Spring 2020 LMC Polled Sambo 45/0-sired natural calf crop. Selection MUST be made within 60 days of purchase. After 60 days, if selection has not been made, ECC reserves the right to first pick of the calf crop.

Lots 5-15: ECC reserves the right to one (1) flush or the split of two (2) flushes, minimum of six (6) embryos on all heifers, show heifer prospects and replacement heifers in the sale.

Lots 16, 18-20: All semen sales are for in-herd AI and ET use, only. Semen sales are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Upon calving, ECC will provide buyers with a maximum of five (5) certificates. Additional certificates may be purchased for $100 per certificate.

Lot 17: ECC and K-K will retain half (1/2) interest in ECC K-K Polled Goose 292/9. Buyer will be purchasing half (1/2) interest (ownership and possession) of 292/9. ECC/K-K is willing to continue to show 292/9 for the duration of his show career with approval from buyer and agreement that all show costs including but not limited to feeding, registration fees and travel expenses will be split 50/50.
