WOW - this year has flown by! With the cattle market at an all time high, it has enabled us to make several advances to the Flying G Ranch program, one being the addition of Seth and Courtney Vance to the team. We are so happy they joined us from Michigan to oversee our show and sale cattle operations, along with the bull development in Caldwell, TX. Recently, we acquired the Rawhide Trail Ranch cattle herd and Larry Ridinger will be acting as a consultant for FGR. With his experience and knowledge, Larry will be of great assistance to Ty and I. We would like to thank the Wong family for working with us in this acquisition. Ty Williams joined the ranch in 2013, as acting ranch manager, and brought along his bride and our ranch entertainment, Nikolyn Williams, to help. Ty and I feel like the addition of the Rawhide Trail cattle herd is a great compliment to the existing FGR herd. We think that the sale offering this year is a great example of the continued improvement of genomic qualities and phenotypic characteristics that every operation loves to see. Our young donor prospects in this offering will add value to any operation and the show prospects, well, we can’t say enough about! The heifers should compete at both state and national levels throughout the country.

We are adding a group of range bulls to the sale this year to help expand our market. There will be several herd bull prospects within our offering for seed stock producers in need. Ty, Larry and I have always selected cattle on phenotype first and used the EPD information to narrow our selections.

At this time, I would like to thank all the guests, bidders, and purchasers from our 2014 sale for making it a huge success. It has been rewarding to hear all of the successes from the purchases made last year! FLYING G RANCH PRODUCTION SALE | 3.29.15

Another year has passed and many things have changed around the Flying G Ranch! I was blessed enough to distance myself from the hard labor over the past year, however Clayton was not so lucky ...

One of the biggest changes is that my younger brother, Clayton, has joined the ranch full time. He is helping at both the North and South locations, with driving back and forth being a big part of his job. For those of you who know him, being in his truck all day is right up his ally! Clayton is enjoying his new role and Dad certainly appreciates having an extra hand around, since we all know “Mom ain’t doing nothing!”

I have put the majority of my time into my last year of dental hygiene school, which is why many of you may not have seen me in awhile. I love being as involved as I can and dental hygiene school has been no different. I have been active in the Texas Dental Hygiene Association as the elected Student Delegate for all the dental hygiene programs across the state. With school wrapping up in May, I plan on making a move to the big city of Houston, TX. Yes, that’s right, I am leaving the country life. Dad says it won’t last long!

Ty and Nikolyn Williams are still living in Rio Vista, TX and keeping an eye on all of the activities around the ranch. Our newest additions are Seth and Courtney Vance at the Caldwell, TX location. Upon making the transfer from Michigan, I must say they have adjusted to our crazy Texas weather fine and are not missing the northern snowy winter weather.

Also in recent years, my younger cousin Lexi Stevenson joined us in showing cattle. Three years ago she approached us saying she wanted to get involved and boy has she proved herself. We didn’t think the 12 year old city girl would last a week. Lexi has traveled with us to many shows across the country, is currently serving as the Texas Junior Angus Association Treasurer, and is volunteering to get involved any chance she gets.

My dad’s older brother, Terry Stevenson, has expanded his ranching business in Moulton, Texas. This past year he purchased a handful of Angus cattle for himself and his family.

We are very thankful for all of the blessings the Lord has given us and we hope to continue growing and improving the Angus industry.

Built in 1925, the ranch’s original home still stands on the property.

A rare opportunity to own a herd sire out of the now deceased FFF Primrose E6, one of the all time favorite Donors for FGR. Denver was the spectacular lead off bull of the Grand Champion Carload at the 2013 Denver Stock Show. Express Ranches later sold 1/3 semen interest for $340,000 at their 2013 spring sale. EXAR Denver 2002B, the lead bull of the Grand Champion Carload of Bulls at the 2013 national Western, sold one-third semen interest for $340,000 for a record total evaluation of $1,020,000 for a yearling Angus bull. Bred to break records, EXAR Denver is one of the very first calves born by the record-setting Origen sire, EXAR Upshot 0562B, the lead bull of the Grand Champion Carload of Bulls at the 2011 national Western Stock Show who set a record at Express in 2011 when half-interest sold for $200,000. The dam of EXAR Denver is a daughter of the Express featured Origen sire EXAR 263C who set the record broken by EXAR Upshot when two-thirds interest of him sold for $263,000 in 2006.
