Word Power!

The advent of any crisis brings with it its own terms and definitions. Some are new: “COVID-19,” for example. Others, such as “social distance,” are reengineered. Still others are words and terms sewn together to best describe and communicate the things they portray: “shelter at home” or “essential” and “non-essential” businesses. Easily understood words and terms are very important to properly communicate to people essential and even life-saving information. We Christians are well aware of the necessity and the power of words. In the beginning was the Word. He was with God, He was God, and everything that was made was made by Him (John 1:1). Our faith came by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). The word spoken by Jesus cleanses us (Ephesians 5:26; John 15:3), and the humble receiving of the engrafted word is able to save our souls (James 1:21). Since the knowledge and use of words are so very important in all things, let us check out, refresh, and add to our spiritual vocabulary.

Let’s start with this—BREATHE! Here lately, it’s almost as though some strange thing has happened to us and we are holding our breath, waiting for the next thing. Breathe and give God glory, thanks, and praise! The Lord God rules and reigns! The times may be uncertain, but our God is not! Trust Him, have faith, and believe His Word and promises! He is without equal or comparison; there is none like Him and no God but Him. Trust in Him with all your heart; acknowledge Him in everything, and He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6). He has set up and called the end of things from the beginning: “…from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God” (Psalm 90:2).

FOCUS on Him, and allow the Holy Spirit to stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance. Do not fear, but remember who He is, what He said, and what He has 36 // July 2020

done. Those who keep their minds stayed on Him will be kept in perfect PEACE (Isaiah 26:3). Don’t be distracted or deceived. The present generations seem to be enthralled by fables and fairy tales; the Gospel of Jesus Christ is neither. It is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe it. Let no one make you ashamed of it or tempt you away from it, but earnestly contend for the FAITH that was given to the

saints (Jude 3). God’s people everywhere have heard about the perilous times and people that shall be in the last days (Matthew 24; 2 Timothy 3). God tells us they must and will come, but again and again, He reassures us through His Word that He will not leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6; Numbers 23:19; Hebrews 13:5; Isaiah 41:10).

So STRENGTHEN and ENCOURAGE yourselves in the Lord. Pray without ceasing and without doubting for all men everywhere, and know that the effectual, fervent prayer of the righteous avails much. Hope thou in God; walk wisely and worthy of your calling. USE YOUR WORDS!
