Who Are You? on. Husband. Daddy. Grandfather. Boss. Employee. Citizen. Servant. Buddy. We are called many names, given many titles. Which one, though, truly defines us? Which one identifies who we really are? Jesus said in John 15:14-15, “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” Above all, we should be known as a friend of Jesus. To be a friend of Jesus, we must be an obedient follower of Christ. He is Lord and we do whatever His Word tells us to do. In John 15:16-17, Jesus said, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another.” How do we bear fruit? By making disciples who make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). Take note, though: while we sow the seed of the Gospel, baptize those who repent and confess Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, and teach them to obey all that He commanded, salvation is still God’s work from beginning to end (Philippians 1:6). So, we are to ask the Father to give us the opportunity to bear lasting fruit. We also bear fruit by loving our brothers and sisters in Christ. Agape love means we do whatever it takes to help another become like Christ, and that can be accomplished by exercising our spiritual gifts. First, according to 1 Peter 4:10-11, some are gifted to speak, others are gifted to serve, and the Holy Spirit will help you recognize in which group you are. And, the Holy Spirit will help you know which spiritual gift or gifts He has given to you (1 Corinthians 12:7, 11). In my opinion, I think our spiritual gift is as unique as we are. We may have a primary gift but also parts of other gifts to enable us to serve the Body uniquely.

Next, are you an equipper? Ephesians 4:7-11 says that Jesus gave to His church the following gifts for the purpose of equipping the saints to do the work of the ministry: apostles (missionaries), prophets (boldly declaring the truth of God’s Word), evangelists (training believers to witness), and pastors or teachers (teaching others). Finally, in Romans 12:3-8, we are given several gifts which we are to use in ministering to one another: prophecy (same as Ephesians 4), ministry (service), teaching (teach God’s written Word), exhortation
(challenge and encourage), giving (not necessarily rich, but generous with one’s time, talents, and treasure), leading (visionary, dreamer), and showing mercy (weeping with those who weep). So, who are you in the Body of Christ? How are you serving the Lord and your brothers and sisters in Christ? We need your ministry and you need ours. We are one body, and we are to work and serve together to accomplish all that the Lord had called us to do while He leaves us on this earth. Do it for His glory!

Cornbread Salad Recipe

hen I was a child, Sunday dinner was an event. Any member of our large extended family and any guest who happened to tag
along from church was offered a seat at the dining room table. Extensions were added and the table groaned under the weight of the delicious dishes. One of my favorite sides was this cornbread salad. It featured homegrown vegetables straight from the garden and a slightly tart dressing. There were never leftovers of this salad! As an adult, I often serve this salad during the summer months. A perfect addition for potlucks, picnics, or Sunday dinners, this salad does require chilling time. It can be made a day in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This allows the flavors to blend. My prayer for you is that this recipe will help create lasting summer memories with your family and friends.
Ingredients For The Salad:
• 2½ cups cornbread (use your favorite recipe or a boxed mix) • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced • 1 medium yellow onion, diced • 3 medium tomatoes, diced
• ½ cup bread and butter pickles, diced
• 12 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled For The Dressing:
• 1 cup mayonnaise
Instructions 1. Crumble the cornbread and place in a medium bowl. 2. Top the cornbread with a layer of green bell pepper, then a layer of onion. 3. Top the onion layer with tomatoes. 4. Top the tomato layer with a layer of pickles. 5. Top the pickle layer with crumbled bacon. 6. Make the dressing: mix the mayonnaise, sugar, bread and butter pickle juice, salt, and pepper until blended. 7. Spread dressing over the top of the salad. 8. Chill for two hours before serving.

Regardless of how your baby was conceived, are you weighed down with regret and fear, agonizing over what to do? Beloved, if that’s you, please hear me: the baby inside you is not an accident. Only God gives the breath of life. And, even if the circumstances surrounding your conception were less than ideal, God loves you very much— He gave you the baby in your womb. That baby is made in His image, you see. This is the Word of the Lord over that baby: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5). The baby in your womb is fearfully and wonderfully made. The Lord already knows what will happen on every single day of your baby’s life; all of his or her days—and yours—are written down in His book. Father God has already called that precious child to his or her occupation and has already endowed that little heart with the capacity to love you and others fiercely and devotedly. Your baby carries the Father’s image, and even now, the hand of the Lord is multiplying your baby’s cells in your womb. He is building every fiber of your baby’s being, with all the brainpower, muscles, joints, and senses that he or she will need to live a long, beautiful life on this earth. Don’t cut it short. Please, beloved. Don’t cut your baby’s life short. Don’t rob yourself of the opportunity to feel those sweet arms wrapped around you. Don’t rob your baby of his or her opportunity to explore the days of their life that Father has ordained for them. And don’t rob the world of the voice and purpose that this precious little one will bring. You may feel like you can’t take care of your baby, and my heart goes out to you if you feel that way. However, you still have options that will preserve the life of your child. If you will find your local pro-life crisis pregnancy center, they will set you up with resources that can help provide for your needs during your pregnancy and even after the birth.

Also, if you are interested in letting another family love and raise your precious baby, know that open adoption is the standard these days if you want it. “Open adoption” means you get to see your baby occasionally and you receive pictures and letters about how they are doing—so
you won’t have to wonder and agonize over how your child is doing. Even if you choose another family to raise and love your baby, you can still play a part in their lives. If you have a financial need, non-profit adoption agencies can even help support you while you carry your child. Please, find your local Christian adoption agency, and they will tell you all about it. Beloved, your baby is a gift from God to you. Even if you messed up, your baby is still a gift from God. Please steward it well. And, whether you choose to raise your baby yourself or to find another couple that has been longing to hold a child in their arms, you will always be blessed by your baby’s life.
