lang, clang, CLANG! My friend doesn’t like loud noises! She cringes at the noise. Her hands cover her ears. Her face says it all. Sometimes she goes all the way into another room. CLANG! Is that the way the world looks at us, when we are noisy and not showing love? God says love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:4-5). Does God only hear my noise or does He see me loving others like He does? God’s word says, if I don’t have love, I have nothing. Nothing! Even if I speak like an angel and I give all I have away to the poor for Jesus’s sake, I still have nothing without love. Our world seems to be really noisy right now! People saying, “Look at me”, “Look what I did”. Clang, clang, CLANG! This is not how Jesus walked on this earth. He loved, and he loved us all! He was not noisy; He came quietly into our world and turned it upside down with His love on the cross. He took our sins upon Him. He did not say, “Look at me.” He said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” He

healed the sick, talked to, and touched people that no one wanted to be near. Who does Jesus want me to love? Who does He want me to sit next to at lunch? Who does He want me to be nice to, even if they are not nice to me? I was challenged in college to pray for who I need to sit by. By doing this, I became friends with people I might never have met. Who does God have planned for me to talk to today? Who needs a smile? It just might change a life. I have another friend that can’t hear well. If he is missing my noisy cymbals, can he see God’s love in me? Does he see that God will always protect him by my example of love? Does he see that God always loves? Am I showing him that Jesus died just for him? I must show love so that others can see Jesus! During this season of love, I don’t want to be noisy. I want to be quiet and show love! I don’t want to be a gong or a cymbal, I want to whisper, “Hey you, God loves you so much He died for you! He is so patient with you. He is so kind. He always protects us. You can always find hope in God!”

The Big Why MONEY MATTERS WITH DR. ANDREW LEE Dr. Andrew Lee is professor of English at Lee University. He also serves as a coordinator for Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. He and his wife Esmerelda have three children.
W
hen we say we “need money,” that’s not exactly true. Money is just paper, or coin, or digits on our computer screen, and that doesn’t really do us any good. It’s only what we can do with the money that matters. That’s what we really want—to pay bills, make purchases, or donate to a worthy cause. Many of us recently made New Year’s resolutions, and these are typically vague notions such as “save more money,” “get out of debt,” “give more this year.” We’re much more likely to stick to our “resolutions” if they are specific, timeoriented, and measurable. So instead of “save more money,” try something like “have $100 per month automatically deducted from my paycheck and deposited into my savings account by the 15th of every month.” This goal is easy to track to see if you’re really sticking to it. Instead of, “get out of debt,” try something like “pay off my Visa credit card in full by the last day of March, and then start making double car payments each month from April through the end of November.” Instead of “give more money to worthy causes,” try something like “start tithing ten percent to my local church starting on the first of next month” or “donate at least two hundred dollars to these two charities in 2019.” In order to actually follow through on these resolutions—and to make meaningful progress with your finances, it’s crucial to know the “Big Why”—why do you want financial security? What does that really mean for you? What does it look like and how will you know if you’ve achieved financial security? These questions are the absolute starting point for financial management because if you don’t know where you’re going or why you

want to get there, you never will. For married couples, knowing “our Big Why” is imperative. Couples should sit down together and brainstorm (yes, actually write down your ideas) what their “ideal future” looks like: is it to travel to other countries regularly? Send the kids to private schools? Establish scholarships at your alma mater? Provide clean water for needy villages? Buy a ski boat? Build a rustic lodge in the mountains? Pay for home health care for an aging parent? Couples should share their honest answers to this question: “If I/we had enough money to do anything, what would we want our life to look like?” Couples need to discuss this early and often, to stay motivated on the journey to financial security. This is especially true of the “reluctant spouse” who resists the idea of a “budget” and thinks buying consumer goods every month is “more fun” than seeing growing balances in savings and investment accounts. Once everyone agrees on the “Big Why,” it’s now clear what the end goal is. Next, you can implement a plan for how much money it will take to achieve those goals, and then map out the steps to make these goals a reality. For single folks, you don’t get off the hook. You also need to write down the answers to these questions in order to know your “Big Why.” Discuss your plans with a trusted friend, relative or mentor, and start to map out what you’ll need to do financially in order to achieve your goals. Too often, our New Year’s resolutions put the proverbial “cart before the horse.” Before listing action steps, take time to know why you’re wanting to take these actions in the first place. Once you know this, you’ll have motivation to take action.

Adapting to Life’s Changes very minute of every day, things happen that could completely change the course of our lives. If you are anything like me, the thought of this makes you cringe. I'm a creature of habit. I am completely okay with the cookie cutter life of keeping the same job for thirty years, having the same Friday night dinners with your friends, and living in the same small town with family close-by for the next fifty years. A routine keeps me calm and makes me feel like I'm in complete control. What happens when life hits us with a change, a change that will stir up our routine and make us a little bit uncomfortable?
Women in today's society have many roles in this busy life: mothers, wives, CEO's, friends, sisters, and teachers. Most of the time, we have to juggle more than one role at a time. What if life throws a curve ball at us? It's not like life stops for us to reevaluate. Life keeps quickly moving by and rarely gives us time to react to change in a healthy way. Our job shuts down and we quickly have to find a new one, our friends who we have weekly plans with have to move unexpectedly, or your family gets busy with new jobs and activities and the time you used to spend with them starts dwindling down to nothing. The schedule you have set for your life is a type of therapy. It leaves you with less worry and gives you a peace of mind. Society makes us, as women, think

that we should always be moving and be able to power through anything life throws our way. Society is a liar and it’s okay for us not to be “okay.” Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” The Lord knows that we as humans will have daily struggles, thus, he gives us words of encouragement. If we begin to feel as though we can't handle one of life's changes, it’s okay to face it then and there. We should stop holding in our feelings for others' sake. First and foremost, we should pray that our anxieties are taken from us. God says not to be nervous; that he is with us every step that we take. What can we as women do to combat our anxieties that are brought on by change? If we suddenly have an open slot of time in our schedules that was once filled with a weekly activity that you enjoyed, find a new hobby to use that time for. If you have children, use that time for one-on-one time for you and them. If you have the money, use that time for a couple of ours of “metime” and go get a massage or pedicure. Maybe we, as women, just need a moment of reflection. Need to cry? That's okay. Feel angry? That's okay too. Taking time to breathe and embrace our emotions is an important part of being human. No matter what people tell us, it is healthy to not be “happy” all the time. On top of everything we can do to bide our time, we should always make time for personal talks with our heavenly father. Humans are sinners and will find ways to let us down, whether knowingly or not. God is always on our side and always has time in his schedule for us. He is an unwavering God. Next time life throws a change at you, put some time in your schedule to talk to God. We never know the plans he has for that change.

Here are four rules I’ve learned over the years:

Let me toss out a solution that has worked for me. On those difficult days, I search the scriptures to find God’s encouragement. I wrap His loving Words around me and know He is working on my behalf! It takes the pressure off. When conflict arises, the best dose of medicine is to spend time in His word. Deuteronomy 4:9 is one of the verses that keep me going. It says, “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.” This scripture gives me strength not to get unnerved. It also helps me hold my tongue instead of adding fuel to the fire. The parent-child bond is one the enemy loves to attack because it’s a relationship that
we decided he should oversee his children, and I manage mine. It’s helpful that we can offer advice and experiences to each other on the topic of parental guidance. Today’s society calls us a blended family, but I like to think of us as a united family by choice. Parenting is something I need to work on daily, because sometimes it feels like a roller coaster ride, with hairpin curves and down-hill drops we never see coming. God has entrusted us with these precious people. My goal is to produce meaningful relationships with them. I want more than an occasional “Hi, how’s the weather?” conversation.

is important to God. Our Heavenly Father is a pure representation of what love looks like in a parent-child connection. Our children are watching how we control our actions. When I’m at my wit’s end with my kids, I pray and let God deal with them. If I want my relationships to be different, it’s up to me to always model self-control. I can influence my children by living for Christ today more so than arguing to make them see my point. There are plenty of joys and broken hearts raising children. Based on a Shoe Story

t 7801 Nashville Street in Ringgold, GA there is a woman who is quick to give hugs, make you laugh, pray for your needs, and sell you the best looking shoes in town. She has a story, but also has a way of listening that makes anyone feel at home. I am her daughter, and it is one of my greatest joys in life. Roughly two years ago, we were doing a little shopping in town together, and after a rather inspiring conversation with another local business owner, I matter-of-factly declared to my mom, “We should open up a shoe store!” I should have known she would run full speed ahead with her massively creative mind and forever busy hands. I tried in vain to keep up. On May 5, 2017, together we opened up Nashville Street Shoes. With bright eyes and zero business experience we helped each other figure out what it meant to run a small business, and how important it is to shop local. We dove into financial lessons we thought were way over our heads, we found ourselves navigating the incredibly congested streets of Atlanta and wandering around fast-paced, 18-floor

markets just trying to swim with the intimidating current. We got hustled a time or five, and learned how to say no. The support from family, friends and the community was astounding, but the most amazing feeling followed: Knowing you are exactly where God wants you to be. I am certain that without the grace of Jesus we would not have gotten off the ground at all. He helped us every step of the demanding way, and affirmed our dream, while teaching us that we are capable, smart, and strong women who can do more than we think we can. Fast forward one year, I thoroughly devastated my mom by getting married and moving six hours away. Although we had time to prepare for it, I felt the guilt and concern of leaving her to manage life and the business all on her own. Forgetful me, I should have known better than to think she or I are ever alone. We never have been. My God never leaves or forsakes, He upholds with his right hand. Recently a quote has been cycling through my Facebook newsfeed that says something like, "If you think you have messed up God's plan for you, sweet friend you are not that powerful". I can't help but smile when I look at the life that God has breathed into this impulsive idea that blossomed into a successful small business and platform. The fear of failure can sometimes slow things down for a time, but God's plan prevails and it is a plan that we can't even imagine for ourselves. If it were not for the dream of this little boutique coming to fruition, I am fairly confident that my mother would not have made the invaluable friendships that she has made. Fellow business owners and employees have turned into lifelong relationships and support systems. Customers have popped in to look for some nice shoes or something to brighten their day just a little and found themselves crying, hugging, and relating with a woman that is always ready for a meaningful encounter to uplift and encourage. There was a time not too long ago when my mother had to jump in a boxing ring with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
The battle wasn't pretty, and during that time she was confined to the limits of a small condo, unable to do much of anything at all due to her extremely weakened immune system. It was a dark and lonely chapter for her, but that is a big part of what makes this particular season of her life so indescribably sweet. My mom is thriving. Nashville Street Shoes is thriving. It has become an asset to downtown Ringgold. It’s packed full to the brim with gorgeous shoes, gifts, and accessories for the whole family. I am grateful for its success, but she and I now realize that it was never actually about “the business” at all, but always about seeing the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. If you get a chance to stop by, please give her a hug from her insanely proud daughter. She’s the one with the beautiful smile and kind eyes.

Then start with a glass of water in the morning, one at noon, and one with dinner! You might hate water like I do, but it is a necessity. Begin to take small walks when you have a chance, a little is better than none! If you feel the

ou're a teenager, so I'm guessing at some point you've played a video game. Console, pc, mobile, it really doesn't matter because they all have something in common that gamers get frustrated with at some point and time and that's the game over. The game over says that you failed to accomplish a task and have no more lives. Perhaps it was that Mario couldn't save Peach, Link couldn't save Zelda, Spider-Man couldn't save MJ. Whatever it is, a game over can make any sane person turn beat red and want to throw their control through a window sometimes. What if we were to look at the game over from a different perspective though? Is it possible for a game over to be a good thing? How about a spiritual game over? Let me explain: In today's society there is so much stuff out there that consumes our time. Games, TV, social media, social life, extracurricular activities, and so on. If we don't keep our priorities straight, any number of those things can take away from the thing where we need to spend the most time and that is our relationship with God. I'll be the 1st to tell you that there have been times in my life when I've let some of those things take up more of my time than spending time with God. Jesus told us in Matthew 6:33 to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. That means we put God above all else in our lives. This is where we apply the game over. In this case it doesn't mean we failed or ran out of lives it means we decide to take time to put down our phones and tablets, we close our laptops, we turn the TV off, and we spend that

time with God. We pray, praise and worship Him, and simply give Him what He wants and that's us, all of us. I'm reminded of a song lyric from one of my favorite Christian artists growing up that said wimpy saints won't survive in spiritual warfare. This is so true. We choose to play games in life and before we know it satan has sucked the life right out of our of our spirits. We give into temptation more easily and for some it can lead to that road that Jesus talked about in Matthew 7:13. He said it is broad and leads to destruction. He even said there are many who find this road. In verse 14 he talks about a different road, a narrow road that leads to life and few there are that find it. Many find the broad road and why not? It's easy. You can be lazy and it takes 0 effort. The narrow road though takes hard work. You have to constantly crucify your flesh and keep it under submission. I don't know about you, but I would much rather choose the road that is narrow but leads to life than the one that is wide and leads to destruction. Will it be easy all the time? I'm afraid not. There is no scripture that tells us that but there are plenty that say He will always be with us. He'll never leave you or forsake you. He will hold you in His right hand! So will you join me young man or young lady? Will you join me as we continue through this new year and say game over? Will you join me in putting God 1st like never before and see where He takes us? You're not on this journey alone! God's got you! It's time to tell satan, game over! About The Author

Not only is medical care administered on the scene, but it is also performed on the way to the hospital. This timely care saves lives, because during a heart attack, every second counts.

We provide a Silver Sneakers class called “Next Level” which is offered four times a week. This class is led and instructed by Lorrie Edwards. She is Silver Sneakers certified and a Personal Trainer. The Silver Sneakers class “Next Level” is a low impact class that last 45 minutes. This class focuses on strengthening muscles and increasing range of movement for daily activities. Participants can use hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and/or a ball. Often a chair is used for seated exercises or standing support and class can be modified depending on fitness levels. We warm-up, then we workout for 35 minutes, and finish with a cool down. This class is designed to improve and build strength, endurance, flexibility, and mobility. These classes are offered Monday at 9:30am and 6:00pm, Wednesday at 9:30pm and Thursday at 6:00pm. Protection of a Father have started with story numerous times, each time hoping to have a great ending. That has yet to happen. I have been a psychotherapist for over 25 years, I have helped countless women regain self-esteem and with repetition reminded of their lineage. Most have gone to better situations, better relationships, and better lives. This client’s life started off like most of my clientele. She grew up in a home where she was not valued. She entered her first marriage with the same self-belief.
She was belittled and ridiculed. Cruel words were now ingrained. This became her identity. Bravely, she managed to escape the emotionally abusive relationship, having to leaving her children. Their father had money. She had the strength to get her own small apartment and take care of herself. This selfless women met a homeless man that she allowed in her home. This relationship turned quickly into romance and way too soon, she married him. Shortly thereafter, this kind sweet woman realized she had married a monster. Most of the incidences are too graphic for print. He used her as a punching bag. Battered and bruised, inside and out, she lost her smile. Her already damaged self-esteem allowed her

to believe the awful words he called her. He controlled her every move. Abandoned by her own family, they did not understand her isolation was not by choice. She had no one to turn to. The few times the police were called, it was most often by a caring stranger. The batterer was court ordered for therapy. His anger so volatile his therapist felt she needed to be warned. She sought protection and shelter, he would always find her. His ominous presence served to reminder her that he was in control. This woman lives in constant fear. Yet she has grown into her true self. She is able fight injustice for others, yet her own battle has continued. She has involved the criminal justice system, and finally had the courage to share her pain, trusting that the legal system would help. She has often used the words “If you don’t do something, he will kill me.” She has gone through all of the proper channels and still he walked away free, only to continue to torment her. “Get a gun,” suggested the local DA. I pray for her daily. My Abba Father did not plan this life for his servant. This needs a miracle. God’s word is filled with many promises. In Psalm 107:13 God reminds us that when we cry out, he saves us from our troubles. Exodus 14:14 states the Lord shall fight for us, as we hold our peace. A similar passage, Psalms 23:4, states “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.” No matter the situation, he will take care of her. I will show my gratitude. Thank you, my Heavenly Father, for fulfilling your promises and protecting your daughter.
