Christ In Christmas

While I was shopping for Christmas pajamas for my daughter, Giuliana, I found what I believed to be the perfect pair. I was ecstatic that I had conquered the task of finding Christmas pajamas for her school party. While standing in line to make the purchase, I couldn’t help but think of how cute she would look in this red ensemble. I could not wait to see her face when she would open the bag and see the modest, but still trendy, sleepwear. I had scored or so I thought. Then, I looked more closely at the shirt of my great find, only to discover that it said, “Here for the X-Mas Movies and Snacks.” No! Why did they have to ruin these pajamas? My heart was grieved because “Christ” had been removed and replaced with an “X.”

I, then, realized that there are so many times we replace Christ with an “X.” What is the “X” in your life? Is your “X” a job, sports, money, or a relationship?

Jesus is the reason for every breath that we take. In the life of the believer, everything should be about Him. Therefore, Jesus should be, “The reason for the season,” every day of our life not only during the time we celebrate Christmas!

“For in Him we live, and move, and have our being;… (Acts 7:28).

I have learned as a wife, mother, travel agent, and co-pastor, we have to guard our time with Him. It is so easy to get distracted on little things that we miss the big picture, Jesus. Many of you, like me, have made statements similar to, “When my life slows down, I am going to pray more, study the Bible more, read that book, volunteer at church, but I am so busy right now.” Did that hit home? The enemy will even ensure that you stay busy in order to hinder you from progressing in your relationship with God. We have to refuse to allow our hectic schedules to hinder us from putting Him first in our lives.

The Christmas season is fun to celebrate with friends and family. I love to exchange gifts, bake cookies, watch Christmas movies, and all of the other family traditions that my family enjoys. However, this Christmas, more than ever, I am committed to not allow ANYTHING to cause me to X Him out of my life.

My prayer is that, as you read this article, you will be challenged to put Christ front and center of everything you do. Do not allow the hustle and bustle of this time of year to rob you of your time with Him. Celebrate the gift of God to the world, Jesus.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”(John 3:16).
