Infusion Day

Traffic was horrible on I-75 this morning. A northbound accident slowed both sides of the interstate from a crawl to a stop. The sight of the wreckage left Steve and I nauseous. The only help I could offer was prayer.
It’s infusion day. Steve is getting a fourhour infusion of four grams of magnesium. Since his double lung transplant, Steve’s magnesium seems to always be low. I am sitting in a chair to his right. I cannot get the people involved in the crash off my mind. I hope they survived. If they met God today, I hope they knew Jesus.
Staring at Steve’s IV pole, I thought how wonderful it would be if we could “infuse” people with Jesus. Simply pop a needle into their veins and pump in His life-saving blood—a complete transfusion of mercy. I wonder how many would show up to get it. I wish it was that easy. Accepting the gift of eternal life is a personal choice that no one can “hook” you up with or “pump” into you. You must work it out for yourself—you and Jesus.
The human body heals physically from the inside out. Jesus’ Spirit works in us the same way. Once we accept Jesus, He begins a work in us from the inside out. Reading His Word, living out His Word, singing to Him, praising Him, worshipping Him, praying and obeying Him are all ways we can “infuse” ourselves with His gift of love and grace. Steve gets lab work to check his blood values. They measure at least fifty markers. Every marker has a normal value. If God drew bloodwork on my soul, I wonder what He would find. He would probably tell me my value for “reading His Word” is low or my value for “singing to Him” is low. The Great Physician would most likely write me an order for an infusion, because I always need a little more Jesus!
