What are you looking for?

Romans 3:23-24, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”
I could hear the voices saying you’re not good enough—just look at your past. Is that worthy of the calling God has given to you—all the things you have done wrong and every time you mess up even now? Do you believe you are good enough to be in His presence? What makes you think that God has forgiven a sinner like you? Why do you think a person like you has been forgiven?
These are the all too familiar words that the devil loves to put in our heads to make us think that we cannot be forgiven. The truth is we are. Through Jesus we are offered forgiveness for everything that we have ever done. God no longer sees those pages in our book. They have been blotted out and washed clean by the blood of the lamb.
It’s hard to imagine ourselves as being forgiven for the past that we tend to hold onto far longer than we should. For the longest time, I couldn’t let go of who I used to be. The devil constantly berated my mind with thoughts of being unworthy and not good enough. In Ephesians 1:4, the Bible says even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God no longer sees us as we see each other. He now sees us through Christ Jesus who has freed us from the eternal death we deserved.
The devil will pound your mind with thoughts to separate you from God, and then he will follow it up by saying, where is your God now? He left you alone. The truth is we are the ones that pull away from God. He is still in the same place that we felt Him at before. We just choose to separate ourselves from Him. God gives us a promise that He will never abandon us or leave us. Even in our darkest hour, God is still there and wants to help us, but are we listening for Him?
Life can be overwhelming at times, but it does not have to be. In my darkest moments, I have found a peace that has outshined the sun. We will find what we are looking for. If we are looking for chaos and darkness, we will find it, but if we are looking for the love of God and the peace that comes from Him, we will find it. What we give our heart to is what we will become.
