The Amazing Science of Recent Eucharistic Miracles: A Message from Heaven?

The Vatican International Exhibition: The Eucharistic Miracles of the World catalogs the 100+ purported Eucharistic miracles that have been recorded and venerated since the earliest days of the Church to the present. The exhibit tours the world, drawing attention to the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

When we think about Eucharistic miracles, we may be tempted to think that most of them are unsubstantiated stories that only happened in the “old days” and couldn’t happen today in our age of science.

The last few decades, however, have seen a surge in Eucharistic miracles, which cannot be explained by science. And in most of these recent miracles, the Eucharist turns into human flesh and blood.

The consistency among the scientific results is startling. Let’s begin with the oldest-known verifiable case of the Eucharist transforming into physical flesh and blood—the Miracle of Lanciano, which took place in 750AD and underwent testing in the 1970s. The facts of this case are stunning.

The Most Remarkable Miracle of the Middle Ages In 750AD, a priest experienced a terrible temptation to doubt the True Presence while He was saying Mass.

As he pronounced the words of consecration, the host and the wine transformed into what appeared to be flesh and blood.

In 1970, more than 1,200 years later, the archbishop of Lanciano, with Rome’s approval, requested a

The Miracles in the Age of Science Until the 1990s, Lanciano was the only proven case of the Eucharist turning into human flesh. Other cases have not been tested with modern scientific equipment, nor have the many dozens of bloodstains on corporals and chalices that have been preserved and are venerated as having come from bleeding hosts.

But in 1992, the miracles started happening again.

1992 and 1996, Buenos Aires, Argentina: In 1992, consecrated particles left on the corporal were put into water to dissolve and locked in the tabernacle, as the Church prescribes for disposing of consecrated hosts.

One week later, they had changed into a red substance. Then again in 1996 after a consecrated host fell to the ground and was also put in water to dissolve, it was found a few days later to have turned into a bloody substance. Both cases were sent to be tested by the archbishop of Buenos Aires, who was none other than our future Pope Francis.

2006, Tixtla, Mexico: During a retreat, a religious sister who was

distributing Communion looked down and noticed that one of the Hosts had begun to bleed and transform.

2008, Sokolka, Poland: A consecrated Host fell to the ground during Communion and was put in water and locked in a tabernacle to dissolve. A week later, most of the Host was dissolved except for a red “clot” that remained.

2013, Legnica, Poland: A consecrated Host fell and was put in water and locked in a tabernacle. Two weeks later a red spot covered one-fifth of the undissolved Host.

Startling Scientific Results Each of these occurrences received intensive study with highly advanced technology. In several cases, doctors did not know the source of the material. And yet, in all the cases, the same results were found, and are consistent with the results of Lanciano, providing even more details due to more advanced science: •

The blood is human, AB blood type; human DNA was found; white blood cells, red blood cells, hemoglobin, and mycrophages were present, indicating fresh blood; in the Tixtla miracle, the blood clearly emanated from within, because the blood on the surface had begun to coagulate but the interior blood was still fresh, as with a bleeding wound The flesh is human myocardium tissue of the left ventricle of an inflamed heart; in the miracles from Argentina and Poland, there was evidence of trauma from the presence of thrombi, indicating repeated lack of oxygen; lesions present showed rapid cardiac spasms typical in the final phases of death

In the Sokolka miracle, the remaining host is tightly interconnected with the fibers of human tissue, penetrating each other inseparably – as if the bread were transforming into flesh. “Even NASA scientists, who have at their disposal the most modern analytical techniques, would not be able to artificially recreate such a thing,” affirmed Dr. Sobaniec-Lotowska, one of the examining experts.

Dr. Frederick Zugibe, a forensic doctor at Columbia University who examined the Argentinian miracle, did not know the source of the sample and told the doctor who brought it to him, “If white blood cells were present (in the heart tissue), it is because at the moment you brought me the sample, it was pulsating.” When he learned the source of the sample, he was shocked and deeply moved.

But more is going on here. The Church teaches: “in the most blessed sacrament of the Eucharist ‘the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained.’”

CCC 1374 Scripturally, we see this in John 6:48-58and 1 Corinthians 10:16 and 11:27. Yet the Eucharist is transforming into human heart only.

It’s as if Jesus, by transforming into a human heart, is crying out to us, “I’m here! I love you! My heart yearns for you! Was not my crucifixion enough to prove my love for you? See, then, and believe. I have remained hidden in the Eucharist for these two thousand years that I may remain close to you. Please, approach me. Receive me. Quench my thirst for your love.”

Why? Why has the Lord suddenly multiplied Eucharistic miracles in the last few decades? Are we, like Doubting Thomas, refusing to believe unless we see, touch, and feel for ourselves? Jesus in his love for Thomas condescended to let him see, touch, and feel his wounds in order to believe. Perhaps he is now doing the same for us.

How Shall We Respond to This Plea from Heaven?

If our Lord has condescended to make himself so evident to us in order to be heard above the noise of our modern world, gratitude alone should impel us to respond. In the words of St. Gemma Galgani:

So many young people have rejected religion as “unscientific.” So here’s the science to prove our faith.

Others say they don’t believe in religion because it’s just opinion or contrary to “reason.” Here’s quantifiable, measurable, physical evidence.

Go to confession. Receive him in Communion. Spend time in Adoration. Learn more about the Mass and the Eucharist so that you may appreciate him more. On the Cross, Jesus cried out, “I thirst.” As many saints have told us, it was not water he was thirsting for—it was you. Quench his thirst.

“Let us go to Jesus. He is all alone and hardly anyone thinks of him. Poor Jesus.”

Recently, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone announced that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi may not be admitted to Holy Communion in the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

I want to talk about what the announcement actually means, so we can discuss this in a thoughtful way. I’m mostly addressing those of you who are Catholic and are “personally opposed” to abortion, but might say you wouldn’t want to impose your beliefs on others — or those of you who identify as faithful Catholics but who are in support of abortion rights.

I want to start by saying that what Archbishop Cordileone did is as much about Holy Communion as it is about abortion. What does it mean to receive Holy Communion?

It’s about being united to Christ and to one another in a unity of faith. To understand why, it’s essential to understand what the Magisterium — the authoritative teaching body of the Catholic Church — has always and consistently taught about Holy Communion: that the Eucharist is the literal, real, true body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. The Real Presence of God Himself. The holiest of everything that is holy. And that to receive Communion is to join in unity — in common union — with Jesus, and through him, it is you joining in real union with the Church, her teachings, and with other Catholics.

The grave significance of receiving of Holy Communion should not be underestimated. It’s spiritually dangerous to approach the awesome power of God in Holy Communion with anything less than the respect it demands.

There is no debate on what Holy Communion is. The Catechism, the authoritative summary of the Catholic faith, is clear on this. So are the bishops throughout the world, and as far back as St. Paul and the authors of the Gospels, the Second Vatican Council, Pope Francis and all the popes before him. And there’s a recent document from the U.S. Bishops that everyone should read called “The Mystery of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church” that’s also clear on this. There is no ambiguity.

Once we understand the significance of Holy Communion, it becomes essential to recognize that the Catholic Church has certain rules that govern the sacraments. We Catholics voluntarily live under these rules because Jesus gave that authority to the Church. Canon 915 of the Church’s law says, “Those … who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin, are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”

The Church clearly teaches that abortion is a grave evil.

And that public advocacy for, and support of, abortion is — objectively speaking — such a manifest grave sin.

What Archbishop Cordileone did was, therefore, actually an act of pastoral love and care for Speaker Pelosi, and for all those entrusted to his pastoral care who might have been led astray by her public support of the evil of abortion.

That’s why Archbishop Cordileone did the right thing.

Satan Witnesses To The Power Of Prayer To End Abortion Msgr. Stephen Rossetti

The local priest-exorcist received an urgent call from the Convent.

That morning the Sisters woke up and went down to their chapel.

They found their tabernacle upside down on the floor and the Eucharist still in its monstrance standing upright next to it. The Sisters were spooked.

The doors to their Convent had been securely locked the night before and were still solidly locked in the morning. Moreover, the handful of Sisters, all strong in the faith, were not awakened to any sounds through the night. The tabernacle had been bolted to the table and its base was now split in two. To split the base of the tabernacle and take it off the table could not have been done quietly. It would have required it being forcibly yanked from its base. In short, what occurred was not humanly possible on several accounts, as the Exorcist quickly surmised.

If the attack was demonic, and all signs pointed to it, why did the demons single out the convent?

The Sisters live a short distance from the United States Capitol building and not a far from an abortion clinic. They are a quiet contemplative presence and clearly pro-life, participating in local prolife events. In the wake of the potential overturning of Roe vs.

Wade, there have lately been a number of abortion advocates in front of the Capitol protesting. Are such demonstrations an opening to the demonic?

as much as anything, that is turning the tide. *While God allowed Satan to break their tabernacle, He did not allow Satan to touch or desecrate the Eucharist. It remained intact and upright in the monstrance. Jesus is Lord!

The Exorcist first cleansed their chapel and house, using the Leo XIII deliverance prayers found in the ritual for exorcists. Then he said to them, “These are just demonic antics. Don’t let them frighten you.

That is Satan’s goal: to frighten you into backing off. Rather, it suggests that whatever you are doing is spiritually important and you ought to do more of it! Satan’s harassment is a confirmation of you and the importance of your life.”

Everything Satan does, much to his dismay and rage, witnesses to the Truth and redounds to his own destruction. For the Kingdom of God to triumph, it only takes a few faithful hearts dedicated to prayer and united in the Eucharistic Lord.

Satan choosing to harass these Sisters in such an obvious way tells us several things: *The possibility of Roe vs. Wade being overturned is a huge threat to Satan’s dark kingdom.

He uncharacteristically broke out of hiding to visibly threaten the Sisters. He must be desperate. *The Evil One recognizes the power of the Sisters’ prayer and witness, and believes it is essential to stop them in order to accomplish his goals. Perhaps it is such prayer,

Eagles in Sacred Scripture

By Canon Heppelle - Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest The Eagle, the king among the birds of the air as the lion is king among the beasts of the earth, graces more than a few pages of the Sacred Scriptures. The swiftness and height of the eagle’s flight is often referenced by the Sacred Authors.

Sometimes the eagle represents sin, death and destruction. Other times he represents the love of God for his people, and the saints for God. As the eagle is the king of birds, it is not surprising that various kings and princes are compared to the eagle.

For example, David in his lament of Saul and Jonathan exclaims: “Saul and Jonathan, lovely, and comely in their life, even in death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, stronger than lions.” (II Kings 1:23) The eagles is swift in flight, and avid in its pursuit of prey. When prophesying the chastisements that would come upon the people of Israel for their sins, the prophets would often compare invading armies, and the kings who led them, to these attributes of the eagle.

Even Moses predicted: “The Lord will bring upon thee a nation from afar, and from the uttermost ends of

the earth, like an eagle that flyeth swiftly.” (Dt 28:49) Likewise, the prophet Habacuc said: “horsemen shall come from afar, they shall fly as an eagle that maketh haste to eat.” (Hab 1:8) The prophet Jeremiah wrote: “Behold he [Nabuchodonosor] shall come up as a cloud, and his chariots as a tempest: his horses are swifter than eagles: woe unto us, for we are laid waste.” (Jer 4:13) After Jerusalem was destroyed by the Chaldeans, the same prophet lamented: “Our persecutors were swifter than the eagles of the air.” (Lam 4:19) The eagle is not only a symbol of the chastisements brought upon the people by their sins, but sometimes a symbol of sin itself.

The eagle’s tendency to build its nest in high inaccessible places, as well as the height of its flight make it a symbol of pride. The Prophet Jeremiah wrote of the Edomites: “Thy arrogance hath deceived thee…though thou shouldst make thy nest as high as an eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.” (Jer 49:16) Likewise the prophet Abdias said: “Though thou be exalted as an eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars: thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.” (Abd 4) Sacred Scripture also shows the eagle in a positive light. The Sacred Authors refer to the care eagles show their young, as an image of the love and care that the Good Lord has for His People. As the Lord said to Moses: “You have seen what I have done to the Egyptians, how I have carried you upon the wings of eagles, and have taken you to myself.” (Ex 19:4) In the great

canticle Moses composed before he died, he again uses the image of an eagle teaching it young to fly to describe God leading His people out of Egypt: “As the eagle enticing her young to fly, and hovering over them, he spread his wings, and hath taken him and carried him on his shoulders.”

(Dt. 32:11) The most well known use of the eagle in Sacred Scripture, though, is the image of the fourth evangelist. The images of the evangelists are first seen in a vision of Ezechiel, who saw four cherubim which he described thus: “And as for the likeness of their faces: there was the face of a man, and the face of a lion on the right side of all the four: and the face of an ox, on the left side of all the four: and the face of an eagle over all the four.” (Ez 1:10) Saint John has a similar vision in the Apocalypse where he sees what he calls “four living creatures” before the throne of God: “And the first living creature was like a lion: and the second living creature like a calf: and the third living creature, having the face, as it were, of a man: and the fourth living creature was like an eagle flying.” (Apoc 4:7) Tradition has identified these four ‘living creatures’ with the four evangelists. St. John is always identified with the eagle because in his Gospel he soars to the heights of spiritual contemplation. If we read and reflect prayerfully on the Gospel, it will indeed inflame our love for God and raise our souls to the spiritual heights where our Heavenly Father is calling us.

Kerry Life and Family Information and Resource Centre Kerry Life and Family (A registered Charity) has been operating from its present location for the past 11 years. Due to the generosity of the landlord we only had to pay a nominal sum for rent.

Our present building has now been sold by the landlord.

However we are delighted to announce that a suitable premises has been acquired in the centre of Tralee. The cost of the building has been donated by a generous donor and a deposit has been put on the building.

However, the building has been unoccupied for a number of years and is in need of extensive refurbishment and alterations to make it habitable and suitable for our needs.

We estimate this will cost in the region of €30,000 plus.

Having our own building will guarantee the carrying on, of the very important Pro-Life, ProFamily and Pro-Catholic church work in Kerry.

Kerry Life and Family - The Denny Street Resource Centre

The centre was set up originally by the Pro-life group in Kerry to save a large volume of Catholic books that became available due to the closure and downsizing of several convents.

This has enabled us to donate lots of good Catholic books to some of the new religious orders in the country.

We now have an extensive library of authentic and rare Catholic books for sale, for study or for reference.

Most of the activities in the centre revolve around Pro Life, Pro Family and pro Catholic Church issues. This has meant holding regular Pro-Life meetings and the running of Catechetical courses.

Every Thursday weekly prayer meetings are held at 2p.m. to make reparation for the crime of abortion in our country.

Abortion has led to the killing of an average of 19 innocent babies every day in Ireland. This hour of prayer is Live Streamed on our Kerry Life and Family Facebook page.

Praying the Rosary in Tralee for an abortion free Ireland.

We organize a monthly Public Rosary of reparation in the Square, Tralee, for the crime of abortion on or around the 13th of every month. Other activities, such as the organizing of buses to Pro Life rallies in Dublin and Belfast for the past number of years. Local

rallies in Tralee have also been very successful.

The centre is a place that supports, encourages, safeguards and promotes the one true Catholic faith. It is a place for people of likemind, to meet, pray, support each other and discuss the issues of the day.

Fighting for your Child’s Eternal Salvation Conor Gallagher

This was a wearisome book. Fighting for your child’s eternal salvation is a wearisome task. But there is no greater joy and responsibility in this life than raising your child in the arms of Holy Mother Church. Thus, we have yet another paradox in our holy faith.

Dear Parent, understand that it is not heaven that is upside down, but the world; it is not Church that is backwards, but her enemies.

Embrace the paradox: do not parent for this world, but for the world to come; do not prepare your little one for this life, but for the life to come; do not parent for time, but for eternity.

If you were to live the contents of this little book, an indescribable joy would begin to permeate your family life. Hear me: everything in your life would be forcibly changed: your marriage, your work, your friendships, your finances, and your entertainment. Yes, your entire life will no longer be the same: your joy will give rise to gratitude; your sorrow will increase your compassion; your sickness will become a source of sacrifice and

your victories a source of humility; time with others will be a chance to speak about God and time alone will be a chance for God to speak to you.

Imagine, no more scrapped knees, no more tummy aches, no more broken bones, no more broken hearts, no more temptation, no more sin, no more sickness, and no more death. All will be whole.

All will be complete. All will be perfect. All will be for eternity. This is your purpose. Now get to it.

John Lacken Let us begin once again by praying for our bishops.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

We have been looking at the encyclical letter of Pope Leo XIII called Sapiente Christianae on the duties of Catholics as citizens.

We have seen how Pope Leo XIII exhorts the faithful to bear witness to their Catholic faith. He now begins to tease that idea out. After speaking of our duty he clarifies what he means.

“The chief elements of this duty consist in professing openly and unflinchingly the Catholic doctrine, and in propagating it to the utmost of our power. For, as is often said, with the greatest truth, there is nothing so hurtful to Christian wisdom as that it should not be known, since it possesses, when loyally received, inherent power to drive away error.

So soon as Catholic truth is apprehended by a simple and unprejudiced soul, reason yields assent. Now, faith, as a virtue, is a great boon of divine grace and goodness; nevertheless, the objects themselves to which faith is to be applied are scarcely known in any other way than through the hearing.

My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee. I beg pardon of Thee for all those that do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee. Amen.

“How shall they believe Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Faith then cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:14, 17) Since, then, faith is necessary for salvation, it follows that the word of Christ must be preached. The office, indeed, of preaching, that is, of teaching, lies by divine right in the province of the pastors, namely, of the bishops whom “the Holy Spirit has placed to rule the Church of God.” It belongs, above all, to the Roman Pontiff, vicar of Jesus Christ, established as head of the universal Church, teacher of all that pertains to morals and faith.”

For Pope Leo XIII, it was almost unthinkable that a Pope or a bishop would preach falsehood. He was very conscious of his own duty towards the faithful and of the importance of making sure that the doctrines of the Catholic Church were preserved inviolate. After speaking about the role of the Pope

and the bishops he then begins to speak of the role of the laity.

“No one, however, must entertain the notion that private individuals are prevented from taking some active part in this duty of teaching, especially those on whom God has bestowed gifts of mind with the strong wish of rendering themselves useful.

These, so often as circumstances demand, may take upon themselves, not, indeed, the office of the pastor, but the task of communicating to others what they have themselves received, becoming, as it were, living echoes of their masters in the faith.

Such co-operation on the part of the laity has seemed to the Fathers of the Vatican Council (Vatican I) so opportune and fruitful of good that they thought well to invite it.

“All faithful Christians, but those chiefly who are in a prominent position, or engaged in teaching,

we entreat, by the compassion of Jesus Christ, and enjoin by the authority of the same God and Saviour, that they bring aid to ward off and eliminate these errors from holy Church, and contribute their zealous help in spreading abroad the light of undefiled faith.”

Let each one, therefore, bear in mind that he both can and should, so far as may be, preach the Catholic faith by the authority of his example, and by open and constant profession of the obligations it imposes. In respect, consequently, to the duties that bind us to God and the Church, it should be borne earnestly in mind that in propagating Christian truth and warding off errors the zeal of the laity should, as far as possible, be brought actively into play.”

Remember that this was written in 1890, 132 years ago.

It puts paid to the lie that the laity were not valued in the past and that our contributions were not appreciated.

However, the key phrase to note with regards to the preaching of the laity is that they can “help in spreading abroad the light of undefiled faith” (emphasis added) No one has the authority to change the deposit of the faith or to interpret it or present it in a way that, whilst keeping the words of doctrine intact, subtly undermine the deposit of the faith. There are plenty of examples in our day of clerics and others who seek to profess their Catholicism whilst contradicting Catholic doctrine by their actions. Catholic politicians who attend Holy Mass on Sundays and vote for abortion when they attend parliament are becoming all too common.

Pope Leo XIII then warns us of a danger that is more prevalent in our time than at the time of his writing. This is the danger of isolation. When the promotion of error becomes rampant within the Catholic Church, those of us who wish to remain faithful to the Traditional teachings of the Catholic Church are isolated, and often the isolation is deliberate as those with authority seek to present a particular erroneous narrative. Think LGBT ideology and the silence of the shepherds whilst this is being promoted in Catholic schools.

“The faithful would not, however, so completely and advantageously satisfy these duties as is fitting they should were they to enter the field as isolated champions of the faith. Jesus Christ, indeed, has clearly intimated that the hostility and hatred of men, which He first and foremost experienced, would be shown in like degree toward the work founded by Him, so that many would be barred from profiting by the salvation for which all are indebted to His loving kindness. Wherefore, He willed not only to train disciples in His doctrine, but to unite them into one society, and closely conjoin them in one body, “which is the Church,” whereof He would be the

head. The life of Jesus Christ pervades, therefore, the entire framework of this body, cherishes and nourishes its every member, uniting each with each, and making all work together to the same end, albeit the action of each be not the same.

Hence it follows that not only is the Church a perfect society far excelling every other, but it is enjoined by her Founder that for the salvation of mankind she is to contend “as an army drawn up in battle array.”

For, in effect, he scatters and gathers not who gathers not with the Church and with Jesus Christ, and all who fight not jointly with him and with the Church are in very truth contending against God.” This last paragraph can be difficult to understand given current trends amongst many senior members of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. It is important for us to understand that the unity that Pope Leo XIII talks about, is not simply the unity of men being together working on a particular task, it is a unity that comes from a common desire to work for the salvation of souls according to Traditional Catholic Church teaching.

The Catholic Church will never ordain women to the priesthood. The Catholic Church will never recognise or promote same-sex sexual relationships. Those who do so, whilst they may be members of the Catholic Church, are traitors to the Church, traitors to Jesus Christ, and traitors to their fellow men whom they are leading to eternal perdition.

In this age of ours, where unpopular teachings are suppressed it might often seem as if those of us who uphold the Traditional Catholic teachings are acting in isolation, however, we are the ones who are truly united to the Catholic Church and thus we are united with the whole host of saints and martyrs who have gone before us. It is ironic, that in our times, it is faithful Catholics who stand firm with what the Catholic Church has always taught who are being branded as rigid and heretical. Those who call good evil and evil good seem to have assumed power within the hierarchical Catholic Church. Nonetheless, the truth does not change and we must remain faithful as St Paul tells us in his second letter to the Thessalonians.

“Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle.” (2 Thessalonians 2:14) Pope Leo XIII then explains where this unity comes from.

harmony of opinion should prevail; in which intent we find Paul the Apostle exhorting the Corinthians with earnest zeal and solemn weight of words: “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms among you: but that you be perfectly in the same mind, and in the same judgment.”

The wisdom of this precept is readily apprehended.

In truth, thought is the principle of action, and hence there cannot exist agreement of will, or similarity of action, if people all think differently one from the other.

In the case of those who profess to take reason as their sole guide, there would hardly be found, if, indeed, there ever could be found, unity of doctrine. Indeed, the art of knowing things as they really are is exceedingly difficult; moreover, the mind of man is by nature feeble and drawn this way and that by a variety of opinions, and not seldom led astray by impressions coming from without; and, furthermore, the influence of the passions often times takes away, or certainly at least diminishes, the capacity for grasping the truth. On this account, in controlling State affairs means are often used to keep those together by force who cannot agree in their way of thinking.

It happens far otherwise with Christians; they receive their rule of faith from the Church, by whose authority and under whose guidance they are conscious that they have beyond question attained to truth. Consequently, as the Church is one, because Jesus Christ is one, so throughout the whole Christian world there is, and ought to be, but one doctrine: “One Lord, one faith;” “but having the same spirit of faith,” they possess the saving principle whence proceed spontaneously one and the same will in all, and one and the same tenor of action.”

The enemies of the Catholic Church who work within its structures are well aware of this principle of unity enunciated by Pope Leo XIII. That is why they take great pains to tell us that they are not seeking to change Catholic doctrine but they are adapting it to the age.

We are told that God loves ‘LGBT Catholics’ as if this is something new. God cannot hate, He can only love, so of course He has always loved those who have disordered attractions. Nevertheless, God calls all of us to follow His commandments. He knows that we will fail and so He initiated the sacrament of confession so that we can repent, be forgiven and get back on track in striving for personal holiness.

Those who teach God’s love for so called ‘LGBT Catholics’ as something new, seek to get the Catholic Church to affirm men and women who are living in sinful situations rather than guiding them to resist these temptations and to strive for purity and holiness. Like Professor Thomas Groome, they will tell us that God cannot expect all of those He created ‘gay’ to remain celibate. They hope to undermine our confidence in

evidence of the truth perceived by the natural light of our reason, but on account of the authority of God revealing, who cannot be deceived nor Himself deceive.”

Those who are well formed in the Traditional teachings of the Catholic Church know that sinful tendencies cannot come from God and will easily see the falsehood of what is being proposed. But in a time where many Catholics are badly formed, many are easily led astray by these false narratives which portray those who would deny sinful sexual activity to homosexuals as being unfeeling and uncaring.

It follows as a consequence that whatever things are manifestly revealed by God we must receive with a similar and equal assent.

Let us finish for now with a small part of the next paragraph from Pope Leo XIII.

To determine, however, which are the doctrines divinely revealed belongs to the teaching Church, to whom God has entrusted the safekeeping and interpretation of His utterances.”

“Now, as the Apostle Paul urges, this unanimity ought to be perfect.

To refuse to believe any one of them is equivalent to rejecting them all, for those at once destroy the very groundwork of faith who deny that God has spoken to men, or who bring into doubt His infinite truth and wisdom.

To deny Catholic revealed doctrine on one point alone, is to deny all of Catholic doctrine because one

elevates one’s own mind above that which has been revealed from God. In the next section we will come across another difficulty of our time which was not present for Pope Leo XIII. This has to do with the authority of the Roman Pontiff.

Many people are confused by some of the utterances of the Current Pontiff. Some are confused because Pope Francis appears to question settled Catholic doctrine such as the non-admission of those in an objective state of mortal sin to Holy Communion. They wonder about Catholic teaching on infallibility.

Others believe that Pope Francis has ushered in a new age for the Catholic Church where the practices of the Catholic church can change whilst remaining true to the doctrines these practices seemingly contradict.

UK Couple Raise Their Daughter As A Son After She Claimed To Be A Boy At Age 2 Clare Murkowski

British parents decided to raise their daughter as a son after she announced, aged 2, that she was a boy In a video reposted by the Libs of TikTok, couple Matthew Stubbings and Klara Jeynes shared their decision to raise their now fouryear-old daughter as a boy named ‘Stormy,’ noting that the little girl disliked dresses and hair clips.

“The first time I realized that ‘Stormy’ wanted to identify as male was about roughly two and a half,” Klara said. “It’s not really that he said, ‘I want be a boy.’ He said, ‘I am a boy,’ and that is the difference.”

Stormy was born in 2018 with her male twin Arlo. At the time, she was called Emerald.

“I [look] like a boy, and I want to be a boy,” Emerald said. She said for the camera that sometimes people call her a girl, and that makes her feel “sad.”

“I would have watched me and said, ‘You’re crazy; you’re making it up.

You’re abusing a child,’” Matthew said.

Matthew explained, “There was that point that I thought this isn’t just a phase (…) It’s not a little girl we’re looking at here. It’s a little boy.”

Klara revealed that she asks her daughter every day if she still wants to be a boy, since she does not want her daughter to feel “trapped” into being a boy.

“He started being unhappy being dressed as a girl, so he started being unhappy wearing dresses,” he continued. “Hair clips were a big no-no.”

“He was genuinely upset at being dressed as a girl,” he said of Emerald/Stormy, adding, “Before I had children, and certainly before the last couple of years, this whole thing, I would have thought it was ridiculous.”

Evidence shows that 85 percent to 95 percent of children who believe that they are of the opposite sex grow out of their gender confusion if they are allowed to go through puberty normally.

However, if gender-confused children are given puberty blockers, only around five percent to 10 percent choose to embrace their actual gender.

What Happens Spiritually in an Abortion Fr. David Nix

Gloria Polo, a middle-aged Columbian woman, had a near death experience in May of 1995 when she was struck by lightning in Bogotá. After cardiac arrest (but before God gave her another chance on earth) she saw the effects of all of her life’s actions on earth from a spiritual perspective. Her initial sentence (before resuscitation) was hell. In particular she recounts what happens spiritually in an abortion.

This will change you forever. I have taken two parts from her testimony and quote them verbatim below. The key line to look for in the following text is this: Seals that God has put to impede evil to come out, but that, for every abortion, it opens… And so horrible larvae come out, so that there are more and more devils…

Gloria Polo said in her testimony: Every time that the blood of a baby is scattered, it is a holocaust to Satan, who acquires in this way still more power. And this soul cries out. I repeat, we are dealing with a mature adult soul, even though it does not yet have eyes, nor flesh, nor a formed body… It is already completely adult. And this his cry so great, while they kill him, devastates all of Heaven. On the contrary, it is a cry of jubilation and of triumph in hell. The only comparison that comes to my mind is the finals of a world soccer championship: imagine all that euphoria, but in an enormous stadium, so immense so as to loose sight of the boundaries, full of devils who cry out like crazy beings their triumph.

They, the devils, threw on me the blood of those babies that I aborted or that I contributed in killing, and my soul became black, completely black.

After the abortions, I thought by now that I no longer had sins… The saddest thing was, instead, to see that Jesus showed me how, also in my family planning, I was killing…

Do you know why? I was using the IUD (intrauterine device) as a contraceptive. From 16 years old, up to the day that the lightning bolt struck me! I took it out only when I wanted to get pregnant, (once married), to then put it immediately back afterwards.

I want to say to all the women who use these intrauterine devices: yes, they provoke abortions! I know that it happens to many women, – because it happened also to me – , to see often clots of blood rather large during the menstrual period, and to feel pain much stronger than normal. We go to the doctor, who does not give much importance to the fact: he prescribes a painkiller, an injection if the pains are too strong, telling us to not worry, that it is normal, because we are dealing with a foreign body, but there is no problem. Do you know what it is, instead? It is a micro abortion!!!

Yes! Micro-abortion!

The intrauterine devices provoke micro-abortions, because as soon as the ovum and the sperm unite, as I already told you, right from that moment is formed a soul, that does not need to grow, being already adult: these devices do not let the fertilized ovum to implant itself into the uterus, which thus dies.

A micro-abortion is an adult soul, completely formed, which was not permitted to live. It was very painful to see how many babies were fertilized, but then expulsed.

These little suns, originating from the Sun of God the Father, these divine sparks, could not grab on to the uterus due to the IUD. How they cried out, while they were torn out from the hands of God the Father because they could not implant themselves!!! It was a dreadful scene…! And the worst is that I could not say that I did not know!…

When I would go to Mass, I would not pay attention to what the priest said. You must know in fact that the devils are present even at the Mass, in order to distract us, to make us fall asleep, to impede us to listen.

which I was totally distracted, my Guardian Angel gave me a jolt and he uncorked my ears, so that I might listen to what the priest was saying in that moment: I heard him precisely speaking about intrauterine devices! He said that they provoked abortion, and that all the women who used them to control the births, actually were aborting; that the Church defends life, and that anyone who does not defend life cannot receive Communion!

How I heard those words, I became infuriated with the priest! But what kind of things do these priests have in their heads? With what right?! For this the Church does not go forward! It is for this and for that, that the churches are empty!

Of course, because it is not with science! But who do they think they are, these priests? I left the church infuriated!

The bad thing was that, while I was being judged before God, I could not say that I did not know!

In fact, notwithstanding the words of the priest, I did not give heed, and I continued to use the IUD! How many babies had I killed? … Here is the motive for which I was living so depressed! Because my womb, instead of being a font of life, it was transformed into a cemetery, in a “slaughterhouse” of babies! Think about it: a mother, who God conceded the immense gift of giving life, to take care of her own baby, to protect it from everything and everyone, precisely that mother, with all these gifts, kills her little child…!

The devil, with his malefic strategy, has brought humanity to the point of killing their own children. Now I understand the reason why I lived in continual bitterness, depression, always ill tempered, ill-mannered, with ugly ways of doing things, with a bad face, frustrated with everything and with everyone. Of course! I had transformed myself, without knowing it, into a machine to kill babies, and for this reason

I was sinking ever more into the abyss.

Abortion is the worst of all the sins because to kill the children still in the womb of the mother, to kill a little innocent and defenseless creature, is to give power to Satan.

A baby is like an innocent lamb and without stain… And Who is the Lamb without stain? It is Jesus! In that moment, the baby is the image and likeness of Jesus! The fact that it might be the mother herself to kill her own child, determines a profound bond with the darkness, permitting that more devils from hell might come out to destroy and strangle humanity. It is as if one might open the seals… Seals that God has put to impede evil to come out, but that, for every abortion, it opens… And so horrible larvae come out, so that there are more and more devils…

They come out to chase and persecute humanity, and then make us slaves of the flesh, of sin, of all the bad things that we see, and we will see always more. It is as if we might give the key of hell to the devils, to let them escape.

And so escape more devils, of prostitution, of sexual aberrations, of Satanism, of atheism, of suicide, of indifference… Of all the evils

that we see around us. And the world is getting worse every day…

Think how many babies are killed every day: it is all a triumph of the evil one! That you might know that for the price of this innocent blood, the number of devils outside of hell grows; they circulate freely in our midst! Let us take shelter!

We sin without even realizing it!

A Glance Into The Past Mary Kearns

John D. Sheridan was known to older generations of Catholics for the many writings that spanned the years from the 1940s to the 1970s.

In “The Hungry Sheep” his analysis of changes brought to Ireland in the wake of the Second Vatican Council are deeply insightful. If this book had been widely read by Catholics at the time, it is likely that lay people would have been alerted and prepared for what was to come.

They would also have had some valuable knowledge about what was happening.

Sheridan’s novels can still be enjoyed but perhaps he is best remembered for his humorous essays, now collected in several books and for his contributions to the Irish Independent newspaper leading to his being known popularly as simply “John D.” Usually showing compassion and understanding towards human nature, Sheridan sometimes allowed his own humanity to surface and this is demonstrated in the absence of goodwill he felt towards anywhere he detected pomposity and officiousness. In the following extract it is church stewards who are the cause of his annoyance.

“When he sees me playing the publican at the back of the church, in company with a lot of other publicans, he waggles an imperious finger at me, as if he were buying me at an auction, and magnetizes me into following him up the aisle.

He scans the crowded seats as if he were looking for contraband, and then, stopping at one that is just as congested as any of the others, pretends that he has found a gap

and indicates that I may fold my wings like a dove.

But no-one wants to give me place and the resentful occupants of the seat to which I have been unwillingly promoted look at me as if I were someone known to the police.

I barge my way past a fur coat, encounter some opposition from a Crombie, knock down an umbrella and a missal, stand on a little man and eventually reach the middle of the seat, where a tiny section of woodwork is visible.

Presently my immediate neighbours, who quite clearly regard themselves as the dispossessed, move a little east and west, respectively, and the ripple spreads slowly throughout the entire seat until at last I am conceded a space about half the size of the one I occupied on the day I was confirmed.

I am now faced with a desperate choice: I can either remain kneeling all the time like a mystic, or I

can enlarge my small holding by twisting and turning until I start another tidal wave.

The steward meanwhile is snapping his fingers at other unwilling vessels of election and marching them up the centre of the aisle, assessing the human content of each seat as he passes it. When he comes to ours he affects to see an inch or two of unoccupied oak, so we all spread ourselves out and try to look as fat as possible. But he is not deceived.

He snaps his fingers and waves his hand away from him, and we all huddle a little tighter. Now he signs to the waiting publican, who comes amongst us and sits down on my hat.

We are now so tightly packed that when the man in the middle takes out his handkerchief the man at the end falls off the seat. There is room for us when we kneel down for the prayers and when we stand up for the hymn, but when we sit down for the sermon there seems to be one over.

If I were as spiritually-minded as I should be, I would offer it up for my sins, but being of earth, earthy, I find the congestion very distracting.

My resentment mounts up and it is all directed – illogically and unfairly at the hard-working, well-meaning and unselfish steward, who, having made everyone unhappy, is now preening himself in the centre of the aisle like a clever sheep-dog which has succeeded at last in penning all the sheep.

I am ashamed of this outburst (I wonder is it matter for Confession?) but I just can’t help myself. I try hard to have sweet thoughts about church stewards, but I still see them as spoiled sergeant-majors, as parish Napoleons who at some critical stage of their lives studied book-keeping instead of strategy.

And this in spite of the fact that noone has a higher appreciation than I of the meritorious work done by these shining souls who serve the community without fee or reward.

But why are they so solemn and serious about it all? We may be the Church Militant but we are not conscripts to be coerced. We may be a little undisciplined at times, but a smile will bring the worst of us to heel – and there are some church stewards who, possibly from a sense of reverence, never smile when on duty and others who seem to think that no-one else in the congregation is dowered with intelligence and mother-wit.

It may well be that everyone else loves church stewards. Possibly I have inherited some dark and unreasoning streak from ancestors who threw stones at policemen during evictions and laid horny hands on bailiffs and tithe-proctors.

So I had better be honest and say that although I admire church

stewards and wouldn’t take their job for any money, I still don’t like them. God forgive me, I just can’t stand the strut and the set of them and their detached unwinking stares.” (Bright Intervals) While some of us will give a nostalgic smile, it is worth bearing in mind that young people have no memory of a time when smiling in the church was inappropriate.

These were years when gentlemen possessed handkerchiefs and hats which they removed in church while girls and ladies retained their headgear. Nearly everyone read Mass from a missal.

However some words such as “publican” have entirely lost their original meaning. In Sheridan’s essay there is an underlying allusion to the parable of the Pharisee and the publican, which in Gospel times meant a despised tax-collector.

DISTANT MEMORIES 21 could sit at the top of the church while the poorer people stood at the back. Sheridan, always identified with the lower classes (he alludes to himself as a publican).

The steward while “magnitizing” the poor publicans, shows no mercy or understanding for the fact that due to perhaps feeling inadequately dressed, some preferred to remain quietly at the back of the church.

Those were the days when churches were full to capacity and this did not just mean Sunday Mass.

Most evenings had well-attended devotions that consisted of Rosary, sermon and Benediction.

The first Sunday of each month had special devotions with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and this was known as the Holy Hour. As for words, “Sermon” has now become “homily” and it is worth pondering how many people nowadays remember or have ever heard the term “Church Militant.”

The alluring prospect of a materialistic heaven on earth fuels an insatiable appetite for government guarantees of peace, security, and worldly comforts.

Karl Marx said, “Religion is the opium of the people.” He would have been more accurate if he said massive government programs are the narcotics of voters.

Perhaps the most compelling — and neglected — social justice issue of our time is the immense national debt: the result of decades of feeding our appetites for “free stuff.” The debt threatens to cause severe economic dislocations, including inflation and dangerous government economic interventions.

Very few of us grasp the enormity of the accumulation of government deficit spending, and we tend to underestimate its cost in dollars, freedom, and human dignity. Few of us take responsibility because, as the saying goes, no single raindrop believes it is to blame for the flood.

Good laws are reasonable, just, and serve the common good. Good laws are humble, not harsh, respecting our freedom because they coincide with human nature. Laws forbidding crimes such as murder and theft reinforce good behaviour and do not threaten upright people.

Although inherently costly, bureaucracies have been with us always and have a rightful place.

Oversight and implementation of arrays of laws and regulations require reasonable organizational efforts.

In the Old Testament, the priestly tribe of Aaron administered the 613 precepts of the Mosaic Law. There is always a need for leaders to provide for the common defence, negotiate treaties, and adjust policies

according to circumstances. The best bureaucracies are small and widely dispersed.

However, in recent decades, a subversive phrase has emerged disclosing a pathological abuse of the law. Accelerating the use of the law for social engineering and regulating the economy, failures prompt authorities to promise: “We are going to establish policies, procedures, and programs to ensure that [fill in the blank] never happens again.” The promise is unrealistic — with a subliminal denial of Original Sin — and dangerously expensive.

Promises of the fail-safe guarantees of big government are unprecedented in cost and scope.

Over the last century, there has been a growing reliance on government programs and a declining reliance on our families and communities.

When institutions fail (some are deemed “too big to fail”), we demand even more spending to avoid failures that would punish irresponsibility.

Guaranteeing heaven on earth through government programs is expensive.

Church leaders have also placed faith in bureaucratic legal machinery, perhaps in part to deflect criticism. After the revelations of clerical misconduct, the bishops promised to establish policies and procedures to ensure that their dereliction of duty never recurs.

(Episcopal negligence is indeed impossible when policies transfer the responsibility of our shepherds to lay boards for resolution.) Such secular and religious guarantees feel good, buy votes, build bureaucracies, are immensely expensive and, ultimately, their promises are illusory.

By promising programs that vainly “guarantee” good results at any price, laws become instruments of raw centralized power — in the eager hands of the few — rather than serving justice. The crushing national debt and the consolidation of government power undermine our freedom and threaten economic well-being. Some have compared government programs to mafia protection rackets. The comparison is unfair. Government programs are much more costly and unforgiving than mob extortion.

The proliferation of bureaucracies smothers freedom and responsibility.

(Imagine the logistics involved in distributing free drug paraphernalia at taxpayer expense.) Presumed failsafe procedures often break down because of the boredom, distractions, and incompetence of those charged with administering them. Only big institutions have the financial resources to establish programs that presume to guarantee that the violations will “never happen again.”

communities, schools, businesses, and large segments of society into bureaucratic police states. (Not even a tube of toothpaste can pass unmolested through an airport security checkpoint, and vaccine passports remain on the horizon.)

So we need social workers, tax professionals, lawyers, and advocates to guide us through the labyrinth of bureaucratic paperwork.

Meanwhile, the bureaucratic promise of heaven still on earth remains elusive. We fall ill; we suffer; we die.

When God revealed the Ten Commandments to us through Moses, He disclosed the way of life: “I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live.”

(Deuteronomy 3:19) The Ten Commandments do not restrict our freedom; these Commandments express our

freedom. When the law punishes those who transgress just laws, we not only protect society. We also protect human life and human freedom.

Jesus teaches, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

(John 14:15) The measure of the justice of any law is whether it promotes authentic human love: love of God and love of neighbour — love of family, community, and country. Sins are not mere external violations of policies and procedures. Transgressions reveal our souls. Jesus teaches: “… out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.” (Mark 7:20-23).

Bureaucrats may use policies, procedures, and programs as instruments of indoctrination and social manipulation, but they cannot account for the good and evil in our hearts.

Jesus promises that when we keep His commandments, our joy will be complete in Him (John 15:11).

Jesus and His commandments help us restore our humanity even if “normal” is now on the secular index of forbidden judgemental words.

Laws cannot guarantee happiness.

They can only guide us in one direction or another. Let’s examine our consciences and identify the entitlement mentality that threatens our nation and salvation.

Government failures are likely to accelerate and to do us great harm. We have alternative “bureaucracies” that are too small to fail. Let’s return to the biblical view of law, grace, and generosity — including humble practicing Catholic “family bureaucracies”— that struggle with our social problems and direct us on the path to peace of soul and eternal life.

7 Things the Church Should Bring Back — and Why Kevin Di Camillo Because of our traditions,” says Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, “every one of us knows who he is, and what God expects him to do.”

Almost a year has passed since the promulgation of Traditionis Custodes, the motu proprio that severely restricted the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass, so it might be time to think about what the Catholic Church could — and probably should — bring back before we forget why the following items were ever important in the first place.

1. Full Habits for Nuns As the old joke goes: “Letting religious sisters wear ordinary clothes seemed like a good idea at the time — until we realized what horrible fashion-sense they had!”

Three of my great aunts were nuns (two Franciscans, one Salesian), and all of them always wore a habit.

However, this habit (pun intended) fell into desuetude by the 1980s so that the Sisters of Saint Francis at my junior high school were

wearing everything from overalls to satin blouses, all bought at the St. Vincent de Paul Society shop.

On the face of it, the Sisters had a good and practical argument: they were dressed as the “poor” would be dressed (or at least the poor who were getting their clothes at the Goodwill or Salvation Army). Still, this seems to be one of those good ideas in theory that, in practice, produced sisters who didn’t look like … well, sisters. Not a hill one wants to die on, exactly, but with the habits unique to each order (one here thinks of the Brigittines and the Canonesses of St. Norbert), and you’d think that these women would at least prefer to wear something a bit more becoming.

2. The Old Knights of Columbus Uniforms Another sartorial sore point and miscue. Christopher Columbus was a sailor. Hence, the Knights who bear his name also use nautical terminology (i.e. the “navigator”; an anchor in the coat of arms)

and, until very recently, the dress uniforms bore a resemblance to a naval uniform. Now they bear an uncanny resemblance to a shopping mall security guard. There was certainly something to be said for the old uniforms — and very little to be said that is good about the new ones. Almost no K of C council meeting is now complete without an argument about the new uniforms!

3. Q&A Catechism Make no mistake: the issuance of the Catechism of the Catholic Church under Pope St. John Paul II was a remarkable achievement on many levels. Indeed, the Didache Bible as well as the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible are indexed to the new Catechism, making the teachings of the Church even more biblically-based.

However, unless one has at least a minor in Theology and lots of time to spend in ‘lectio divina’, one wonders whatever happened to

simple, straightforward questionand-answer catechisms à la those of St. Francis de Sales and St. Peter Canisius, who were masters of the genre.

The answer to the all-important opening question: “Why did God make you?” — namely, “To love, know, honour and obey God in this life so that we may be happy with him in the next” — is still one of the most cogent (and beautiful) statements a Christian can make.

And keep.

4. The Altar Rail Oddly, this holdover from the preVatican II years can still be found even in churches built after the Council. But that’s a rarity. These days, one is fortunate if there’s an extra step up into the sanctuary.

Contrary to popular myth, the altar rail does not serve to “separate” the clergy from the laity, but, rather, to set off that holiest of spaces: the altar where the priest or bishop confects the Eucharist, and where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the tabernacle.

On a practical level, the altar rail also serves for those wishing to receive the Body of Christ in a kneeling position — which is, of course, not only a position of penitence (as we are constantly reminded by rigid liturgists) but one of reverence and respect.

5. The Divine Infant of Prague Statue Every church has a central crucifix, of course. And for a long time many (most) churches had a representation of the infant Jesus, as the “Divine Infant of Prague” in his regal regalia.

As a child, I always enjoyed seeing the care that went into changing the garments of the Divine Infant in accordance with the seasons.

However, this devotion — which is accompanied by a beautiful prayer “to be said in urgent needs” — appears to be vanishing, and as far as I can tell, everyone loses a little bit on this one, as (1) we are reminded that Jesus was indeed a human being, indeed, a child, and (2) we are reminded that he was (and is) King of the Universe.

6. Latin Hymns There are, of course, some incredibly beautifully English sacred songs: Holy God, We Praise Thy Name, O Sacred Head, Day is Done and perhaps, if it is sung without dragging, We Three Kings (along with almost all Christmas carols). However, for my money, the Latin hymns still cannot be beat: O Salutaris Hostia, Salve Regina and Pange Lingua — along with the Sanctus and Agnus Deibeing sung at Mass — really do add an air of majestic music. The lesson here is that, whether the Mass is in Latin or not, we are still part of the Latin Church — though the Greek Kyrie Eleison is worth singing too.

I’ve never much cared for the rather prosaic “installation” of the new pope (or bishop, for that matter).

Moreover, people seem fascinated by modern-day monarchs, even those who are strictly figureheads, and if there is one thing the Roman Church excels at is show-stopping ceremony.

7. The Coronation of the Pope This will, of course, almost definitely never, ever happen again — and hasn’t happened since the election of St. Paul VI, who

The coronation of the pope, while a bit of a throwback, hurts no one, and the newly-elected pope can then go about showing how humble he really is — one need only think of St. John XXIII who, when fully vested for his coronation, carped that he was “wrapped up like a Persian satrap.”

No one ever accused “Good Pope John” of being a slave to sheer ceremony or thinking he was some sort of temporal ruler. It’s hard to believe that any future pope would, either.

High-School Graduate Chooses Life After Hearing Testimonies Of Women Hurt By Abortion Lisa Bast

After unexpectedly falling pregnant just after graduating high school, Sandy Smith chose to keep her baby saying ‘abortion is never the right choice for a woman, no matter the circumstances.’

Sandy Smith was active as a youth leader along with her boyfriend, Jay, at the church where her father served as senior pastor and Jay’s father was a deacon. She had just graduated high school and was excited to attend college. Her future was filled with promise – but then, she found out she was pregnant.

Smith told Live Action News, “I was shocked and terrified when I found out I was pregnant. Jay and I both loved God but obviously we did not establish boundaries in our relationship. We were embarrassed and ashamed. The pregnancy changed everything for us, including our friendships, our future, our dreams – everything.”

Smith briefly thought about abortion but then she remembered being present at a previous church service where women shared their heartrending testimonies about their abortions, sobbing in anguish for a decision they deeply regretted – even decades later.

“After hearing these emotional stories of how abortion forever wounded these women, I knew I could never have an abortion and live with such soul crushing remorse,” Smith said.

Smith confided in her parents about her pregnancy, telling her father she wanted to place her child for adoption, but Smith’s father was adamant that she alone should be responsible for caring for her baby.

He was also concerned the young couple did not rush into marriage because of the pregnancy, though Smith’s boyfriend later did ask her father for permission to marry, and he consented.

Adjusting to new challenges Newly married, the couple moved into an apartment on campus and tried to adjust to married life as

college students. Smith said, “We both had to work a lot to barely make ends meet and it was exhausting.

We saw each other a lot less after we were married than we did when dating. But we were very much in love and soon began to see a new future unfolding before us that we had never envisioned.”

When their daughter was born, it was a special time for both families, united in the joy and love that a new life brings.

“We delighted in Talia, and I loved her more than I ever thought possible,” Smith said.

Fulfilment found in serving in ministry and sharing testimony Two years after their daughter was born, the Smiths began serving in their church’s ministry, hoping to demonstrate the grace God had shown them by helping others.

The Smiths were grateful for the support of their church community throughout their journey.

“Looking back, I’m so thankful that I was raised to understand and know that life is precious and is a gift from God, even an unplanned life,” Smith said.

“When I was 18, I had no concept of the joy and fulfilment that parenting would bring. I now realize that being a mom is exactly what I was designed to do. It is alarming to think our story could have had a different outcome.”

Realising that other women, like her, often feel helpless and afraid when in dark moments, Smith felt compelled to share her testimony.

She knew it wouldn’t be easy to share but felt it important for others to hear about God’s forgiveness and mercy, recalling a poignant moment when she and her husband first talked about their experience.

“A pregnant teenage girl and her boyfriend were at the service one day,” Smith told Live Action News.

“They were really scared and at a crossroads about what they should do. We talked with the young couple

and we prayed for them at the altar.

Today, they are married with two children and are doing well. This demonstrates the power of God and the Christian community.”

Church leaders need to speak out about abortion But Smith realized that there are many church leaders who are reluctant to discuss abortion for fear of turning away congregants and donors who may feel uncomfortable with the topic. Yet many women considering abortion are sitting in church pews every week.

Smith believes a great place to start is to promote the sanctity of life in the church culture and establish support groups for post-abortive women, as well as for women who are single and pregnant.

“Churches should never let Satan muzzle their voices and intimidate them into silence,” stated Smith.

“Church leaders should never be afraid to talk about abortion because Christians need to understand what the Bible says about life. People today are hungry to hear that life is precious and created by and for God.” “Now more than ever, church leaders need to exert boldness during this troubling time.”

The Catholic Response to Corrupt Cardinals Joshua Charles

Editor’s note: in light of the recent news of a new consistory showcasing the pipeline of power for men who seem to have no love of truth, we present this reflection which cuts to the core of our Catholic identity. The problem of a corrupt hierarchy is nothing new – it goes back to ancient Israel. Let us then recapture the zeal of our fathers who have dealt with this issue in every generation.

One of the most common objections against the Catholic Church is that it is corrupt and full of wicked shepherds.

This supposedly justified the Protestant revolt, and people leaving the Church to this day. Whether through immoral living, or teaching bad doctrine, the Catholic Church may have been the original “mother church,” but it is now hopelessly corrupt, and the only way to respond to this problem is to separate from it.

But as I discovered when I began studying the Church Fathers, this is not a new objection. In fact, it’s a very old one, to which the Fathers offered a unanimous and resounding answer: separation from the Church is never justified.

The Fathers were under no illusions about the earthly pilgrimage of the Church. Like Israel’s forty-year journey through the wilderness on the way to the Promised Land, the Church Militant’s pilgrimage to Heaven would be difficult. Indeed, Christ said the way to Heaven was narrow, few find it, (Mt. 7:14) and they only get there by taking up a cross (Mt. 16:24). Our Lord predicted false prophets who would come in like wolves (Mt. 7:15), and they would deceive many, even (if possible) the elect (Mt. 24:24). St. Paul prophesied there would be heresies that would arise among Christians in order to prove those who were genuine (I. Cor. 11:19).

He warned that wolves would infiltrate the flock (Acts 20:29), and that many will follow teachers who suit their own likings (II Tim. 4:3-4).

Like Israel in the wilderness, the one true Church would remain itself throughout all its tribulations, none of which would change its fundamental nature. Amalek could not destroy it from without, and Korah, Dathan, and Abiram could not destroy it from within. There was to be no “re-founding” of Israel. There was one and only one Israel, founded by God Himself, on a pilgrimage to the Promised Land.

Those who endured to the end would see the promise.

At the same time, the Church, like Israel, is full of both the righteous and the unrighteous throughout its journey. The Fathers describe the earthly visible Church by appealing to several types in Scripture:

Noah’s ark, with its clean and unclean animals (Gen. 7:2, 8); The “threshing floor” of the Lord, referring to the threshing floor that David purchased to build the Temple (the Catholic Church is the third, New Covenant Temple), and on which wheat is crushed so that it can eventually be separated from the chaff (II Sam. 24:18-25; II Chron. 21:18-27); The Parable of the Sower with the wheat and the chaff (Mt. 13:24-30; Mk. 4:26-32); and The sheep and the goats within one flock (Mt. 25:31-46), among others.

While the Church during its earthly pilgrimage is full of the good and the evil, it was also permanent and unchanging. Those who endured to the end “came to life, and reigned with Christ a thousand years” (Apoc. 20:4) in Heaven. The

“Offer up everything within your power as a sacrifice to the Lord in an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended; and of supplication for the conversion of sinners. 28 RESPONDING TO CORRUPTION

ecclesiology of the Fathers drew extensively from the Old Testament on this point. For example, the prophets spoke of an everlasting kingdom. Daniel, in particular, prophesied that in the days of the Romans, The God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever (Dan. 2:44).

In short, the Fathers well knew that the Church was the everlasting kingdom established by God, that it spanned both Heaven and earth, and its earthly remnant would be guided by Christ until his return (Mt. 28:20).

At the same time, this earthly element (the Church Militant) would be full of good and evil, righteous and unrighteous, sheep and goats, wheat and chaff, clean and unclean, until the Lord Himself did the separating.

while the severity of sin may increase or decrease in particular epochs, there is truly “nothing new under the sun” (Eccl. 1:19).

Here are the words of St. Augustine’s Epistle 208 (§§24, 6-7): I exhort you, therefore, not to be too much troubled by those offenses which for this very reason were foretold as destined to come, that when they came we might remember that they had been foretold, and not be greatly disconcerted by them. For the Lord Himself in His gospel foretold them, saying, “Woe unto the world because of offenses! For it must needs be that offenses come; but woe unto that man by whom the offense comes!” [Matt. 18:7]

To speak in Old Testament terms, no matter how corrupt their fellow Israelites or their priests would get, faithful Israelites had no right to presume to establish the kingdom of Israel anywhere else other than in the Holy Land, or build the Temple anywhere else other than in Jerusalem. God reserved to Himself the prerogative of dealing with corrupt shepherds. And He did so.

These are the men of whom the apostle said, “They seek their own, not the things that are Jesus Christ’s.”

[Phil. 2:21] There are, therefore, some who hold the honourable office of shepherds in order that they may provide for the flock of Christ; others occupy that position that they may enjoy the temporal honours and secular advantages connected with the office. It must needs happen that these two kinds of pastors, some dying, others succeeding them, should continue in the Catholic Church even to the end of time, and the judgment of the Lord. If, then, in the times of the apostles there were men such that Paul, grieved by their conduct, enumerates among his trials, “perils among false brethren,” [1 Cor. 11:26] and yet he did not haughtily cast them out, but patiently bore with them, how much more must such arise in our times, since the Lord most plainly says concerning this age which is drawing to a close, “that because iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.” [Matt. 24:12-13] The word which follows, however, ought to console and exhort us, for He adds, “He that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.” [Matt. 24:13]

This is why the Church Fathers everywhere taught the necessity of unity with the Church for salvation, and that the Catholic Church was that one true Church.

Moreover, as there are good shepherds and bad shepherds, so also in flocks there are good and bad.

The good are represented by the name of sheep, but

Therefore, for a Christian to presume to re-found, reform, or re-do what God Himself has established by teaching other than what the Catholic Church teaches (heresy) or by separating from the Catholic Church (schism) is folly. It is a form of ecclesial utopianism that, in its quest for a “pure church,” has murdered countless souls in the same way political utopianism has murdered countless bodies.

The Fathers knew there would be scandalous behaviour from bishops. After all, of the twelve Apostles (the original bishops) appointed by Our Lord, one outright betrayed him (Judas), and all but St. John abandoned Him at His greatest hour of need. But just as unfaithful Israelites did not make Israel any less Israel, unfaithful Catholics do not make the Catholic Church any less the one true Church established by Christ. Scripture makes abundantly clear there is only one Body of Christ — which is the Church — and there is only one Church preaching only one Faith.

There are many examples of this theology throughout the Fathers. Here are relevant sections from a letter of St. Augustine written in AD 423 to a consecrated virgin who was scandalized by the behaviour of bishops in her own time. One can recognize in this letter that

the bad are called goats: they feed, nevertheless, side by side in the same pastures, until the Chief Shepherd, who is called the One Shepherd, shall come and separate them one from another according to His promise, “as a shepherd divides the sheep from the goats.” [Matt.

25:32] On us He has laid the duty of gathering the flock; to Himself He has reserved the work of final separation, because it pertains properly to Him who cannot err.

For those presumptuous servants, who have lightly ventured to separatebefore the time which the Lord has reserved in His own hand, have, instead of separating others, only been separated themselves from Catholic unity; for how could those have a clean flock who have by schism become unclean?

In order, therefore, that we may remain in the unity of the faith, and not, stumbling at the offenses occasioned by the chaff, desert the threshing-floor of the Lord, but rather remain as wheat till the final winnowing, [Matt. 3:12] and by the love which imparts stability to us bear with the beaten straw, our great Shepherd in the gospel admonishes us concerning the good shepherds, that we should not, on account of their good works, place our hope in them, but glorify our heavenly Father for making them such; and concerning the bad shepherds (whom He designed to point out under the name of Scribes and Pharisees), He reminds us that they teach that which is good though they do that which is evil. [Matt.

3:12]…

Hence we understand both that the good shepherds are those who seek not their own, but the things of Jesus Christ, and that the good sheep,

though imitating the works of the good shepherds by whose ministry they have been gathered together, do not place their hope in them, but rather in the Lord, by Whose blood they are redeemed; so that when they may happen to be placed under bad shepherds, preaching Christ’s doctrine and doing their own evil works, they will do what they teach, but will not do what they do, and will not, on account of these sons of wickedness, forsake the pastures of the one true Church.

For there are both good and bad in the Catholic Church, which, unlike the Donatist sect, is extended and spread abroad, not in Africa only, but through all nations; as the apostle expresses it, “bringing forth fruit, and increasing in the whole world.” [Col. 1:6] But those who are separated from the Church, as long as they are opposed to it cannot be good; although an apparently praiseworthy conversation seems to prove some of them to be good, their separation from the Church itself renders them bad, according

to the saying of the Lord: “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathers not with me scatters.”

[Matt. 12:30] Therefore, my daughter, worthy of all welcome and honor among the members of Christ, I exhort you to hold faithfully that which the Lord has committed to you, and love with all your heart Him and His Church who suffered you not, by joining yourself with the lost, to lose the recompense of your virginity, or perish with them.

For if you should depart out of this world separated from the unity of the body of Christ, it will avail you nothing to have preserved inviolate your virginity…Committing to Him your heart, your vow, and your sacred virginity, and your faith, hope, and charity, you will not be moved by offenses, which shall abound even to the end; but, by the unshaken strength of piety, shall be safe and shall triumph in the Lord, continuing in the unity of His body even to the end.

“To forestall this [the second world war], I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.

“If they heed My requests, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace. If not, she shall spread her errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecutions of the Church; the good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated; in the end, My Immaculate Heart shall triumph.

A Pontificate and Priesthood rooted in the infallibly salvific Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Holy Roman Catholic Mass, should always treat the Latin Tridentine Mass and the Novus Ordo Mass equal and equally since the Real Presence of “Jesus Christ, yesterday, and today; and the same forever.” (Hebrews 8: 13) is truly present, in both rites, as in the Eucharistic miracles of Lanciano 750 AD and of Buenos Aires 1996.

“You shall not hurt a widow or an orphan. If you hurt them, they will cry out to me, and I will hear their cry: And my rage shall be enkindled, and I will strike you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.”

(Exodus 22: 22-24)

“Jesus Christ, yesterday, and today; and the same forever.”

(Hebrews 8:13) is truly, really and substantially present in His Most Sacred Body, Most Precious Blood, Immortal Soul, and Eternal Divinity in both the Latin Tridentine rite and in the Novus Ordo rite of the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Roman Catholic Mass.

Any teaching, therefore, or any action that denies or dilutes the Holy Mystery of Transubstantiation and, contrary to the doctrinal instruction Redemptionis Sacramentum (www.vaticana.va), arbitrarily prevents any baptised Roman Catholic from receiving Jesus Christ in Holy Communion while kneeling and on the tongue, in either the Latin Tridentine rite of Holy Mass or in the Novus Ordo rite of Holy Mass, would seem to contravene a communicant’s rights and undermine reverence for, and belief in, the miraculous efficacy of the Most Holy Eucharist of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
