Nellie Organ - The Little Violet Of Eucharistic Intercession Ellen Organ, known also as Little Nellie, was born in County Waterford on 24th August 1903, and died in Cork City on 2nd February 1908 aged four years and five months. She is venerated by many in the Catholic Church for her precocious spiritual awareness and alleged mystic life. Pope Saint Pius X, inspired by the saintly Irish toddler, lowered the age of Holy Communion two years and nine months after her death. After putting the Papal seal on ‘Quam Singulari’ in 1910, Pope Pius X wrote. “May God enrich with every blessing... all who recommend frequent Communion to little boys and girls, proposing Nellie as their model.” The Holy Father had also predicted, “Now there will be saints among the children.” When Pope Saint John-Paul II, observed this prophecy of Pope Saint Pius X he declared, “Now there will be apostles among the children”.

In 1910, Pope Saint Pius X lowered the age for receiving Holy Communion from the typical age of twelve, to the age when a child begins to reason, usually about the seventh year. Three months later, the children from St. Finbarr’s Industrial school in Cork wrote to the Holy Father to thank him, as their twelve month (nearly completed) nightly novena to Little Nellie was answered. They had yearned for themselves and for all children over the world, to be able to receive Holy Communion nearer to the age that Little Nellie was.

her First Holy Communion at 6 years old (which was still rare then). Subsequently, Lucia began instructing her younger cousins Francisco and Jacinta in the faith.

The Angel of Fatima appeared first in 1915 to the three children and then on two further occasions. On the third visit in 1916, the Angel was seen holding a Chalice with the Precious Blood of Christ with the Sacred Host being suspended in the air. The Angel prostrated himself in adoration before the Host and Chalice, and catechised the young seers to do the same. We ask, “was this particular apparition of Fatima, a heavenly sign confirming the issuing of ‘Quam Singulari’, so wonderfully inspired through Little Nellie Organ?

The Angel then administered the Sacred Host to Lucia (aged 9) and the most Precious Blood to both Francisco (aged 8) and Jacinta (aged 6), telling them to receive Jesus in reparation for the sins of others and to console God. When we contemplate Saint Francisco, who wanted to keep the Eucharistic Jesus company in the Holy tabernacle, we are reminded of the first time that Little Nellie entered the Chapel during

Eucharistic Adoration. Pointing to the Monstrance she whispered.

“There He is! There is Holy God now!” The little Irish Mystic began talking with Jesus and became unaware of anything else. When Eucharistic Adoration ended, she began to cry of deep joy of being with God, but was sad that He was not loved, thanked and longed for.

Saint Jacinta, who loved making reparation for sinners, reminds us of Little Nellie once again.

According to Leo Madigan, both little girls had a deep faith, humility, devotion to the Pope and a craving for the Eucharistic Jesus.

Jacinta and Nellie both suffered from consumption, died from tuberculosis and its complications after long months being bed-ridden.

When their graves were opened, each of their tiny bodies, attired in First Holy Communion dresses, were found to be incorrupt and fresh, as when they had departed this life. little Jacinta and Little Nellie’s short lives, it is as if the Eucharistic Jesus took possession of each of their tiny bodies and souls at different times, which led them at tender ages, down their own paths of Calvary in reparation for sinners.

Little Nellie’s infection from tuberculosis caused a spinal defect and caries of the jaw bone. The wound had to be treated with disinfectants every day which caused her intense pain. When Nellie’s illness progressed, her tiny body had to be repositioned in her cot because of the extreme pressure that was like burning hot coals to her spine. This became even more agonizing when she coughed.

The little suffering toddler sought no human sympathy. “Holy God suffered far more on de Cross for me,” she said, in the spirit of atonement. Her only consolation was Holy Communion, which she was given permission by the Bishop to receive when she was just four years old.

Catholic Voice Turning to the Feast of the Presentation of the Baby-Jesus to His Heavenly Father, we remember those children from Nations with an all but almost forgotten heritage in Christendom. In particular, those babies, who at an increasing rate today, are no longer being faithfully consecrated to the Lord, from the Baptismal waters of Holy Mother Church or nurtured with love for the faith as they grow.

Little Nellie is a most beautiful girl given to us especially for these days, to help us to pass the faith onto the next generation. The precious babe was devoutly baptised, and later became a dedicated associate of the ‘Sodality of the Children of Mary’.

The Miraculous medal with a blue ribbon was placed around the fouryear old’s neck with appropriate prayers and formulae recited.

Amazingly, at this stage, the saintly toddler understood the faith beyond her years and would recite the rosary aloud every night with her nurse, praying in reparation for sinners, the souls in purgatory, the Church and the Holy Father.

Little Nellie abandoned herself to Holy God and said about her death, “Suddenly I will fly to Him, (Jesus). I will be wearing my First Communion dress”. It was only providential that Nellie died on this special Feast of the Presentation.

According to witnesses in the room, the Holy Mother of God had come for her. At 3pm, as the little babe’s eyes welled with tears of love, she remained immersed in what she saw above her bed which she struggled to try and touch. Then at 4pm at the end of the ‘Hour of Mercy’, she was ready to go to Holy God. Nellie had been beautifully prepared in her short tender life to be presented at the Heavenly Banquet of the Lamb.

(Revelation 19:9) Jesus, “You have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes...”

(Matthew 11:25). When Nellie was told that she would be making her First Holy Communion, the tiny girl kept repeating “... I want Holy God in my heart. Oh I am longing for Him”. Then, as soon as the child first received her Eucharistic Lord,

(on the Feast of St. Nicholas, Patron Saint of Children,) her features shone, as if the presence of the light or Jesus in her heart reflected upon her face illuminated with radiance.

Little Nellie would continue to receive the Eucharistic Jesus with great fervour and adoration.

Although very ill, her thanksgiving afterwards frequently lasted for a space of three hours and on one occasion it lasted until evening.

Astonishingly, the tiny Irish mystic could also tell if a person had received Holy Communion or not. Sometime after Nellie’s death, she gained the appellation, “Little Violet of the Most Blessed Sacramet”.

Little Nellie exemplifies the preciousness of little children and in a special way those who are very small, vulnerable, weak, or poorly. She is a natural intercessor for them, as she spent her last months in a convent which housed approximately 200 orphaned children. Even though very ill, the motherless infant was always glad to hear outside her bedroom window, the noise of laughter from

these children playing and being happy.

The little Violet of the Most Blessed Sacrament will help all children today and aid us to atone for the sins committed against them when we call upon her most powerful intercession.

This precious child will continue to assist us in the battle that is raging fiercely between those who wish to profane children’s innocent minds and souls and those of us who want to protect their innocence and bring them to the Eucharistic Lord.

Moreover, Nellie Organ’s message is ultimately to create awareness of the real presence of Jesus under the appearance of Bread and Wine.

(See Luke 22:19-20 - 1 Corinthians 10:16 - CCC 410), especially for children. The devout toddler, at only 4 years old, recognized who the Blessed Sacrament is and Whom she would receive into her very innocent and most pure heart.

We pray that all children throughout the world will have the opportunity to encounter the living presence of

Liz O’Hanlon - Requiescat In Pace A great lady Liz O’Hanlon passed to the Lord on the 26th January 2022. She was a great promoter and lover of the Latin mass and promoter of the penny catechism all over Ireland and overseas.

Her death is deeply regretted by her husband Redmond and five children, Sarah, Sinead, Redmond, Claire, and Patrick and her grandchildren and relatives and many friends. I first met Liz and her husband Redmond in 1991 as their local public representative, I was running in a general election for Dáil Éireann (Ireland’s Parliament). When they discovered that I was running as a pro-life candidate I was immediately welcomed into their home and a friendship of over 30 years had begun.

Liz ran a catechism class in her home and as my children were the same age as hers at that time, our children attended it and benefitted much from that and that is no small part of her great legacy.

When I congratulated her on that, she replied ‘ah Richard, these priests are my adopted sons’.

Her illness came upon her suddenly a few days before Christmas, but she bore it with great dignity and prepared for her final parting with her family constantly saying the rosary around her bedside, received the last rites of the church and confession from Father Abbe and the name of Mary on her lips as she died.

She loved the Latin mass and liturgy and attended the Latin mass daily in St John the Evangelist church in Monkstown, County Dublin. She became a rock of support to the priests who served in the above-mentioned church and the community that attended mass there, through her tireless work in running the bookshop, helping organise functions after various religious ceremonies such as baptisms, holy communions, confirmations, and special occasions.

During the last 40 years, there were many hard battles fought in referendums and political campaigns against the evil of abortion, the promotion of homosexuality, so-called same sex marriage, and other evil agendas in the Republic of Ireland. In all of those campaigns, Liz was actively involved by her tireless leafleting and canvassing and attending protest rallies. All of these government initiatives paved the way for the Irish state now being “a basket case” for Christian morals and religious belief, described as such by a prominent polish politician recently.

On the 29th March 2021, she showed her lifelong courage and commitment to all that is good and true by writing to the New Archbishop Dublin, his Grace Dermot Farrell expressing her outrage at the closing of all the churches and stopping of the sacramental life of the church, during the Covid-19 Pandemic. “My Lord Archbishop, on Friday the 26th March I attended the funeral of a 31 year old man who died suddenly the previous Sunday along with approximately 200 other mourners, we were confined to the church grounds ‘as there was no room in the Inn’. My main concern for the young man was the salvation of his soul since on your instructions the church had been closed to the faithful on and off for more than a year since the ‘scandemic’ started.”

She let him know that for the past 60 years that with no proper instruction of the faithful the liturgy is so watered down, it’s meaningless. Sacraments have suffered a similar fate. She told the Archbishop by closing down the sacramental life of the church for the faithful during the pandemic ‘the apostasy is now complete’ and it is no wonder that the Irish people voted in droves for ‘sodomy to be recognised as marriage and voting to eliminate constitutional protection for preborn children so that they can be killed daily’.

Liz enjoyed life and had a great sense of humour and fun and her laugh was joyful and infectious. She will be a great

What Are Bishops Supposed to Teach?

Fr. Gerald E. Murray What is a Catholic bishop supposed to teach? The Oath of Fidelity on Assuming an Office to be Exercised in the Name of the Church supplies a succinct answer: “In fulfilling the charge entrusted to me in the name of the Church, I shall hold fast to the deposit of faith in its entirety; I shall faithfully hand it on and explain it, and I shall avoid any teachings contrary to it.”

What are the qualities that are required in a man being considered for promotion to the episcopate? Canon 378, §1, 1º answers thus: “To be a suitable candidate for the episcopate it is required that he be outstanding in strong faith, good morals, piety, zeal for souls, wisdom, prudence and human virtues, and possess those other gifts which equip him to fulfil the office in question.”

What are the qualities that the Church seeks in a man to be promoted to the College of Cardinals? Canon 351, §1 states: “Those to be promoted Cardinals are men freely selected by the Roman Pontiff, who are truly outstanding in doctrine, virtue, piety and prudence in practical matters.”

“I shall avoid any teachings contrary to it.”

Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, Archbishop of Luxembourg, recently said in an interview: “The Church’s positions on homosexual relationships as sinful are wrong. I believe that the sociological and scientific foundation of this doctrine is no longer correct. It is time for a fundamental revision of Church teaching, and the way in which Pope Francis has spoken of homosexuality could lead to a change in doctrine.”

The teaching of the Church on the intrinsic immorality of sodomy, which sinful act brings into being a homosexual relationship between two men or two women, is described by the Cardinal first as “positions,” and then as a “doctrine” or a “teaching.” Whatever he considers it to be, he thinks it “wrong” because it’s based, apparently, not on Scripture, Tradition, or the natural law, but on “sociological and scientific foundation[s]” that are “no longer correct.” Thus he calls for a “fundamental revision of Church teaching.”

Such statements reveal the thinking of a man who has rejected his solemn obligation as a bishop and a cardinal, let alone as a baptised follower of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church, to “hold fast to the deposit of faith in its entirety.” He has publicly rejected what he is duty-bound to uphold and defend.

He has lamentably characterized the unchanging and unchangeable teaching of the Church on the immorality of homosexual acts, which is clearly taught in Sacred Scripture, Tradition and the natural law, as wrong.

If he truly believes that this teaching is “wrong,” then he should do one of two things (I pray he does the first): 1) if he wishes to remain faithful to Christ and His Church he must repent and recant his grave error, publicly embrace the Church’s teaching; or 2) if he mistakenly decides that he is right and the Church is wrong, then he should take the only morally and

intellectually honest step possible and resign from his positions of authority in the Church, since he is no longer willing to fulfil his duty to avoid “teachings contrary to the [deposit of faith],” a duty which he freely took upon himself but which he now rejects outright.

For him to remain the Cardinal Archbishop of Luxembourg while refusing to carry out his duty to teach Catholic truth would be malfeasance of the highest order.

It would be an opportunistic use of power in the Church to attempt the destruction of the Church’s teaching, causing great harm to the salvation of souls. Such bold subversion in plain sight is the height of clericalism, by which he counts on being listened to, and not contradicted, because that is what the Catholic faithful are ordinarily supposed to do when a cardinal archbishop speaks.

Cardinal Hollerich’s scandalous rejection of the Church’s teaching on the grave immorality of homosexual acts will inevitably confirm people in sin by giving the false impression that the Church could be on the verge of changing her teaching, finally realizing – like Cardinal Hollerich – that this teaching, not sodomy, is wrong. Sodomy would no longer be a mortal sin, a grave misuse of the sexual faculty that offends God and leads others into sin. Rather, sodomy would now be recognized as part of God’s plan for mankind.

Cardinal Hollerich is the Relator General of the 2023 Synod on Synodality, now in its initial preparatory and consultative phase.

Will he use that crucial role to foist his call for a “fundamental revision of Church teaching” about homosexual acts upon the Synod?

Cardinal Hollerich also misleads people by positing that Catholic teaching on morality is changeable because its truth is not founded upon divinely inspired Scripture, Tradition, or the natural law, but

rather depends upon the everchanging findings of “sociology and science.” The Church’s mission, handed on to the Apostles

by Our Lord himself, is to transmit faithfully the deposit of faith. The truths of the deposit of faith can never be contradicted by any true finding of human science. Reason and revelation, the Church teaches, work in harmony and not in opposition to each other.

Cardinal Hollerich has betrayed the obligations he freely assumed when he accepted ordination as a bishop, when he was given the charge of being an authoritative “teacher of doctrine.” (canon 378, §1) He now calls for a “fundamental revision

of Church teaching.” This is the perennial quest of heretics from Arius to the Modernists. It is a vain conceit, involving a tragic embrace of the lie promised in the first temptation: “and you will be like God.” (Genesis 3:5) God alone establishes and makes known to man what is true and false, including matters of sexual morality. Our fidelity to Christ requires that we reject any notion that we can or should rewrite Catholic doctrine in pursuit of a “new revised teaching” that is in fact an old error. We must pray for Cardinal Hollerich – may he reject his error and proclaim Christ’s truth with love and conviction.

Purgatory And The Church Suffering Conor Gallagher Only in the Holy Catholic Faith can you fix your mind upon something so horrific yet marvellous, gruesome yet beautiful, that which you desperately want to avoid yet that which you will one day willingly throw yourself into.

That, Dear Parent, is the awesome reality of purgatory, the residence of the Church Suffering.

and yes, the filth of lust on display for all to see.

This doctrine is so utterly obvious that it baffles the mind that Protestants can reject it. Do you want to know a truly appalling notion? It is that which is held by every Protestant: when you die, so long as you are not bound for hell, you get to immediately show yourself before the throne of Almighty God, with all the filth on your soul that venial sins have left, without the need for penance, without any purification after a sinful life; and vastly more dreadful is the notion that a human soul would proudly walk before the throne of God among the blessed saints and angels without any thought of purgation.

The master of the spiritual life, Father Frederick Faber (1814–1863) explains this beautifully in the small but mighty TAN book simply entitled Purgatory:

Oh, how we clean our bodies, wash our clothes, polish our shoes, fix our hair, adorn ourselves with jewellery, making ourselves as attractive as possible, simply to attend a cocktail party with halfwits and yuppies who care no more about us than their fancy allows for the fleeting moment.

And yet, we will march into paradise, the heavenly banquet, covered in the stench of pride, the rags of envy, with the growl of greed seething through clenched teeth, and the drool of gluttony seeping down our face, with the blood of wrath on our hands, and the jaded look of sloth in our eyes,

The glorious doctrine of purgatory teaches, with countless apparitions to holy saints to support it, that the soul will be scandalized to present itself to God before it is purified in the fires of divine love.

“[The soul] goes into Purgatory with its eyes fascinated and its spirit sweetly tranquillised by the face of Jesus, its first sight of the Sacred Humanity, at the Particular Judgment which it has undergone. That vision abides with it still, and beautifies the uneven terrors of its prison as if with perpetual silvery showers of moonlight which seem to fall from our Saviour’s loving eyes. In the sea of fire it holds fast by that image. The moment that in His sight it perceives its own unfitness for Heaven, it wings itself voluntary flight to Purgatory, like a dove to her proper nest in the shadows of the forest. There need [be] no Angels to convey it thither. It is its own free worship of the purity of God.” Father Faber also shares the incredible revelation of St. Gertrude, who was enraptured by God in the following scene: “The Saint saw in spirit the soul of a religious who had passed her life in the exercise of the most lofty virtues. She was standing before Our Lord clothed and adorned with charity, but she did not dare to lift her eyes to look at Him. She kept them cast down as if she was ashamed to stand in His presence, and showed by some gesture her desire to be far from Him. Gertrude marvelled at this and ventured to question Him: “Most merciful God! Why does Thou not receive this soul into the arms of Thine infinite charity? What are the strange gestures of diffidence which I behold in her?”

Then Our Lord lovingly stretched out His right arm, as if He would draw the soul nearer to Himself; but she, with profound humility and great

modesty, retired from Him. The Saint, lost in still greater wonder, asked why she fled from the embraces of a Spouse so worthy to be loved; and the religious answered her, “Because I am not yet perfectly cleansed from the stains which my sins have left behind them; and even if he were to grant me in this state a free entrance into Heaven, I would not accept it; for all resplendent as I look to your eyes, I know that I am not yet a fit spouse for my Lord.”

And so, it is a marvel that Protestants think a sinful man can saunter right through the pearly gates. A truly humble soul desires purgation, knowing that despite the Blood of Christ spilt on Calvary which made salvation possible, he continues to defile his soul in big ways and small.

Thus, Dear Parent, purgatory is a glorious doctrine to teach your children, for it is a splendid means to prepare the soul for the beatific vision.

This beautiful notion of the soul’s willingness to fly into the flames does not, in any way, diminish the brutality of the flames themselves.

It has been reported by mystics throughout all of Church history— and even by the souls who have returned from the Church Suffering to warn the Church Militant—that the pain of purgation is greater than all pains of earth combined. It does not take a vivid imagination to conclude how painful this must be if we are incapable of holding our own hand over an open flame for even a few seconds. It is truly mind-boggling. It is, in fact, a mystery that the living cannot fathom. But you, Dear Parent, can listen to the warnings of the holy souls in purgatory and teach your child about this beautiful and horrific reality.

It is vitally necessary to teach your little one to pray for the poor souls in purgatory. They desperately desire it. Countless saints and mystics have testified to the importance of helping the Church Suffering. And even the Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas, proclaimed that “prayer for the dead is more acceptable than for the living, for the dead are in the greatest need of it and cannot help themselves, as the living can.”

11th March 2022 Catholic Voice An estranged friend, who maybe has even left the Church, can freely choose to restore friendship with God and you. But our friends in purgatory can no longer merit their own departure from the flames. You and your family must pray for the dead with sincerity and devotion. It is yet another glorious mystery of God’s infinite compassion that He gives the living such power over the dead.

Father Faber puts beautiful words to this notion: “While we are helping the Holy Souls, we love Jesus with a love beyond words, a love that almost makes us afraid, yet with what a delightful fear! Because in this devotion it is His hands we are moving, as we would move the unskillful hands of a child. Dearest Lord, that He should let us do these things! That He should let us do with His satisfaction what we will, and sprinkle His Precious Blood as if it were so much water from the nearest well! That we should limit the efficacy of His unbloody Sacrifice, and name souls to Him, and expect Him to obey us, and that

He should do so! Beautiful was the helplessness of His blessed Infancy; beautiful is His helplessness in His most dear Sacrament; beautiful is the helplessness in which, for the love of us, He mostly wills to be with regard to His dear spouses in Purgatory, whose entrance into glory His Heart is so impatiently awaiting! Oh, what thoughts, what feelings, what love should be ours as we, like choirs of terrestrial angels, gaze down on the wide, silent, sinless kingdom of suffering, and then, with our own venturous touch, wave the sceptered hand of Jesus over its broad regions, all richly dropping with the balsam of His saving Blood!”[4] And so, Dear Parent, train your child to pray for the poor souls at every opportunity. At the conclusion of your mealtime, add the following prayer, “And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.” Look for additional prayers to pray with your little one at his or her bedtime routine. And when someone you know or hear about passes away from the mortal coil, gather your family together and pray one of the many prayers for the faithful departed.

If you raise your child to be mindful that members of her Church are suffering in purgatory at this very minute, you will have done a great service. Convince your little one that his or her prayers literally free the Holy Souls from their sufferings.

Have your child imagine how grateful these poor souls will be once they reach heaven and how they will return the favor through their prayers.

The point, Dear Parent, is that your child must have a sense of the complete Church, not just the brick and mortar building you attend on Sundays. How often do you hear of someone in need of prayers? You discuss the person in need, you tell your friends and child, you add them to your prayer list. And yet, the tradition proves time and time again that the members of your Church are in purgatory and need your prayers desperately, immediately. This is what it means to be a member of the Church. Please, never let your child forget this truth.

Tyranny Is A Sign Of Weakness, So Don’t Underestimate The Power Of Refusing To Comply J.B. Shurk When people realize that they individually strengthen the State by submitting to its lies, people then understand that the whole artifice of the system survives purely through their individual consent.

One of the most challenging obstacles working against ordinary citizens in the West is the self-satisfying presumption that Western institutions and philosophies are inherently immune from the rise of totalitarianism.

This is an understandable blind spot. Their identities have been forged, to various degrees, in the great traditions of Enlightenment notions of liberty, free speech, and natural rights.

Surely the victors over communism, fascism, and Nazism cannot then fall victim to the madness of those same philosophies collapsing their systems from within! This “Us/Them” self-delusion has kept the citizenry from recognizing tyranny inside its gates.

It is good for people to take pride in the achievements and histories of their nation-states. It is natural for the inhabitants of countries founded in fights for freedom to assume that the costs of obtaining that freedom are behind them and not ahead.

And it is easy to self-define the victors of WWII as cultures standing firmly opposed to authoritarianism, to believe that nations not bound by the Iron Curtain would never choose to build their own and to assume that millions of graves and monuments attesting to the great human sacrifices over the last century in the defense of freedom are sufficient safeguards against future generations ever detouring from the blessings of human liberty.

But all of these good, natural and easy mental prisms become mental prisons when they keep us from seeing what is happening in our own backyards.

The growing tyranny in the West has not happened overnight. It did not suddenly arrive at our doorsteps with the Chinese Flu. It has been a nightmare decades in the making. The difference today is that previously slumbering citizens once sublimely content in the normal humdrum of their lives are waking up to realize that the enemies from our past have returned with a vengeance.

Conformity has replaced individuality. “Correct” thinking has replaced freethinking. “Social justice” has replaced real justice. And the protection of government has become more important than the protection of human rights.

For the newly awakened, there is a tendency to see all this carnage for the first time with fresh eyes and become overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the rot. The corruption, criminality, and chaos have

infiltrated everything once held dear, and the future seems hopelessly lost.

That hopelessness, however, is not based in reality but rather the “Us/Them” self-delusion that tyranny could not happen here. It’s not easy to accept that the great sacrifices of the past made in the struggle for human freedom have once again been squandered by a new generation of despots.

It is a necessary first step, though, before the righteous can throw themselves into the fight and get back to work. And once people come to terms with the fact that tyranny not only could happen here but that it is happening here, then they will realize that the struggle has only really begun in earnest.

Does anyone think the perverse and heavy-handed responses by the American government to the January 6 election protesters is a sign of strength? Does anyone believe that the Canadian government’s decision to enact emergency powers and martial law to manhandle peaceful demonstrators protesting medical mandates showcases institutional confidence? When French president Emmanuel Macron feels compelled to go politicking with tear gas and heavily armored vehicles near his side, does he strike yellow-vest–wearing Europeans as fully in control?

Does the Department of Justice’s habitual harassment of conservatives across the United States for their beliefs or its repeated attempts to put President Trump in criminal jeopardy really seem like the actions of a federal system secure in its future? Of course not!

Western governments are terrified of their people today.

They are terrified of what their people believe, or else they wouldn’t feel compelled to criminalize thoughts as “hateful.” They are scared to death of what their people might say to each other, or else they wouldn’t engage in mass surveillance and blatant censorship.

They are fearful of free and fair elections, or else they wouldn’t work so hard to manipulate and undermine them. And they are absolutely petrified of a future where cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies free their citizens from the consolidated control imposed by central banks and spendthrift treasuries.

If discouraged and demoralized Westerners doubt that they have more power right now than their governments could ever possess, then take a hard look at the obscene lengths to which those governments have gone in order to maintain and preserve their jurisdiction. Embracing tyranny under the sickening pretense of “preserving democracy” betrays just how weak these governments have become!

Václav Havel — dissident, political prisoner, and eventual president of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic — wrote a sledgehammer of an essay in the late ’70s entitled “The Power of the Powerless.” In that indictment against the oppressive nature of communist regimes, he demystified totalitarianism as a system that forces citizens to “live within a lie.”

What each citizen secretly believes does not matter.

Whether a citizen privately contests in his mind the

DEFEATING TYRANNY 11 State’s constructed truths is irrelevant. What is crucial for totalitarianism, however, is that each citizen repeats the State’s lies, lives within the system based on those lies, and perpetuates that system of lies in everyday life.

Havel uses the example of a grocer displaying a Workers of the World, Unite! sign because failure to do so could be seen as a sign of disloyalty to the State.

By displaying it, the grocer isn’t expressing truth or personal enthusiasm for a cause, but rather proving his humiliating submission to a system of control.

Now consider all of the slogans we daily encounter from government and corporate mouthpieces alike: Black Lives Matter!; Build Back Better!; Trans Rights Are Human Rights!; The Science Is Settled!; Save the Earth!; Stop Global Warming!; The War on Women Is Real!; We’re All in This Together!; Abortion Is Health Care!; My Body, My Choice!

It doesn’t matter how vapid, factually incorrect, or contradictory the political slogan is. What matters is that all of us repeat them obediently to prove our allegiance to and faith in the system. And therein lies the key to our salvation.

Question the lies, and you question the system. Push back against the State’s monopoly over truth, and you cripple the State’s legitimacy. Celebrate individuality, and you fracture the mental prison of groupthink. Live “in truth,” and you erode the control of State dogma.

When people realize that they individually strengthen the State by submitting to its lies, people then understand that the whole artifice of the system survives purely through their individual consent. At that point, it becomes obvious that the small number of people at the top of the system is not really in control at all.

It is the large population — psychologically abused and tormented by their government — that wields power when it chooses. Once the powerless have this epiphany, they alone control their destiny.

Identify tyranny. Question lies. Resist oppression.

Assert truth. Empower the powerless. Destroy the system’s illusion of control. Be not afraid. It’s that simple.

This article contains material that is not suitable for children. - NB*** In a world that seems to be going increasingly mad, let us continue to pray for our bishops, to pray that they will uphold the promise that they made at the time of assuming their office as bishops.

“In fulfilling the charge entrusted to me in the name of the Church, I shall hold fast to the deposit of faith in its entirety; I shall faithfully hand it on and explain it, and I shall avoid any teachings contrary to it.”

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

As I write this article, we are entering day four of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are moving nearer to the city of Kyiv and by the time you read this article, things will probably have changed drastically.

I am no expert on history and I don’t intend to comment on the historical aspects of this conflict. I believe that the invasion is morally wrong but, as in all cases, there are different sides to the story. It seems to me that we have long since entered a very dark period of human history with children being murdered on a scale unimaginable to our ancestors, and sexual perversions being publicly promoted to children as young a four years old. The global problems we are now witnesses too are primarily moral problems caused by a rejection of God and His divine laws.

When I saw the Russian invasion of Ukraine I was immediately reminded of the message Our Lady gave to the children of Fatima on July 13th, 1917. She gave this message immediately after showing the young children a terrifying vision of Hell.

The children of Fatima in 1917 Lucia de Jesús dos Santos, St Francisco Marto, St Jacinta Marto “Sacrifice yourselves for sinners; and say often, especially when you make some sacrifice: ‘O my Jesus, it is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners and in reparation for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary I offer this sacrifice to Thee.”

“As Our Lady said these words,” Lucia later described the scenes, “She opened Her hands again as She had done the two previous months. The light reflecting from them seemed to penetrate into the earth, and we saw as if into a sea of fire, and immersed in that fire were devils and souls with human form, as if they were transparent black or bronze embers floating in the fire and swayed by the flames that issued from within themselves along with great clouds of smoke, falling upon every side just like the falling of sparks in great fires, without weight or equilibrium, amidst wailing and cries of pain and despair that horrified and shook us with terror. We could distinguish the devils by their horrible and repulsive figures of frightful and unknown animals, but transparent as the black coals in a fire.”

Frightened, deathly pale, the little ones raised their eyes to Our Lady for help as Lucia cried out. “Oh...

Our Lady!” Our Lady explained: “You have seen Hell — where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them God wills to establish throughout the world the devotion to My Immaculate Heart.

“If people will do what I tell you, many souls will be saved, and there will be peace. The war is going to end.

“But if they do not stop offending God, another and worse war will break out in the reign of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that it is the great sign that God gives you, that He is going to punish the world for its crimes by means of war, hunger, persecution of the Church and of the Holy Father.

“To forestall this, I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.

“In Portugal, the dogma of the faith will always be preserved.” (From The True Story of Fatima - Fr John de Marchi) The war in Ukraine reminded me that Our Lord also spoke of coming wars and persecutions in chapter twenty four of St Matthew’s Gospel.

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.

Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” (Matthew 24:6-8)

Our Lord’s words to us are different; “See that ye be not troubled. For these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” (Matthew 24:6) We must not panic, but we must continue to fight the good fight striving to become holy and proclaiming the good news far and wide. As St Paul tells us, “He who sows sparingly, shall also reap sparingly: and he who sows in blessings, shall also reap blessings.”

(2 Corinthians 9:6)

Today, when events such as the covid crisis and invasion of Ukraine

by Russia happen, social media outlets buzz with Catholics sharing various different prophecies from many sources often of dubious integrity. “We are in the end times”, “the chastisement is upon us”, “such and such a visionary said this”.

St Paul also tells us in Galatians, “For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that sows in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that sows in the spirit, of the spirit shall reap life everlasting. And in doing good, let us not fail. For in due time we shall reap, not failing.”

We are told that the messages are urgent and to make sure that we share them with everyone. Some of them tell us to adopt certain pious practices in order to end the war or whatever calamity happens to be upon us.

As Catholics we must be careful not to become distracted in our pursuit of holiness by world events. Of course we must not be blind to what is going on in the world so that we can read the signs of the times, but we must not allow global events to distract us from our mission in this life.

My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee. I beg pardon of Thee for all those that do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee. Amen.

Very few of us have the individual power to shape global events but all of us can have a good effect within the sphere where we live. We do this by living out our Catholic faith to the full and by tackling those issues

that are part of our remit from God due to our state in life.

Parents have a duty to directly tackle issues that can adversely affect their childrens’ spiritual, moral and physical health.

However, protecting children from harm is only one part of the calling that Catholic parents have. You can protect your family from burglars, but if you do not provide food and clothing for your family, they will die nonetheless, even though the burglars never breached your walls.

The primary duty of Catholic parents after bringing their children into this world is to educate them in the Catholic faith so that they will come to know, to love, and to serve God. Many others in the Church may abandon the Catholic faith but that does not excuse Catholic parents from doing their duty.

I read a sermon from a Catholic priest recently where he noted the “devastating consequences of the loss of Catholic dogma on eternity and the salvation of souls. Failing to hand on the teaching of Our Lord and the saints, we have created a Church for which social questions are all that matter.” Here are some quotes from that sermon.

“What has been left aside is the conviction that the message of the Gospel and incorporation into the Church through the sacraments

are necessary for salvation. Now that the Church has decided to present herself as the servant of the world, instead of its teacher, we find ourselves less and less able to proclaim the Gospel with force and conviction. Nor did this go unnoticed when it came to pass. The young theologian Joseph Ratzinger noted at the time of the council that what was called “Schema 13”, and which would ultimately become the pastoral constitution Gaudium et Spes, was nothing short of the Church’s October Revolution, a kind of counter-syllabus that turned the syllabus of errors of Blessed Pius IX on its head, not to mention the syllabus of modernism of St Pius X. No longer will the Church condemn. She will accompany and discern, in such a way as to never enter into conflict. From Gaudium et Spes on, the Church’s relationship to the world changes radically, and its bitter fruits are all too evident to us today: a spineless Church utterly incapable of standing up to corrupt politicians who promote the murder of infants and the elderly, who destroy marriage and corrupt our youth.

More recently we had an opportunity to see this attitude in action when bishops around the world closed their churches and refused the sacraments to the faithful based on unjust health orders from a government she is henceforth gutless to resist. In the same way we have seen the faithful abandoned by their bishops who refuse to stand up against the same governments who violate some of the most fundamental rights of the human person.

This latter failure is indicative of a much deeper problem: locking the church denotes a lack of faith; failing to resist government vaccination mandates denotes a loss of humanity. And that makes sense, because really it is only Our Lord Jesus Christ and His revealed truth that can keep us human. Without Him, we slide down the slippery slope of fallen nature and founder in the dark waters of irrational animal life.

Yet another instance of this disastrous state of affairs can be seen in the quasi-takeover of Catholic institutions, in particular in exchange for money grants. So we have on one hand an incapacity for vigorous push-back because now we are supposed to dialogue and be nice, and on the other hand, if we don’t do that, we lose our money. And that is the perfect scenario for creating Judases en masse.

No Sacraments for the faithful here today, by order of the bishop, to appease the secular g o v e r n m e n t ’s unjust orders.

You might say that there has always been political interference in the Church and that is true. There have always been Judases, and that is true. But what there has not always been is a quasi-universal abandonment of the most sacred function of teaching the truth without ambiguity and the subsequent chastisement of vice that was always the hallmark of the Catholic episcopate.

It is so true that one canonised bishop, St Anthony Mary Claret, went so far as to say that to be appointed a bishop meant that one must be prepared for one of two things: martyrdom or hell.

If a bishop (and we can add here a priest, because it is also the priest’s duty to preach the truth of the Gospel) preaches with clarity the fullness of the faith he can expect persecution, and persecution can lead to martyrdom, that of blood or that of rejection and slander; but if he does not, hell awaits him.” (Extract from Sermon) I never tire of promoting the importance of the Catholic family because the Catholic family is the only foundation on which a just society can be built. The devil knows this too, and that is why we see so many attacks on the fundamental nature of family and on the fundamental nature of our human sexuality.

The importance of Catholic parents, which may not seem to be all that significant in terms of recent global events, cannot be overemphasised.

In the longer term, it is Catholic parents who will ultimately decide the world’s future; either by their failure to uphold, teach and pass on the faith to their children, in which case the world will go into terminal decline; or by their insistence on upholding, teaching and passing on the Catholic faith to their children, regardless of the opposition they face from both within and without the hierarchical Catholic Church, in which case the world will flourish for the glory and honour of Almighty God. This is why Catholic parents must challenge their bishops who refuse to denounce the dangerous and child damaging LGBT ideology.

Because the salvation of children is at stake. Silence in this matter is not an option.

Many organisations which were originally founded by the Catholic Church in Ireland, now receive millions of Euros in funding from the abortion promoting State.

These organisations, some of which have been mentioned in my last article, compromise on Catholic

Church teaching and allow other State funded organisations which promote ideologies contrary to the Catholic Church to have access to Catholic children so that they can poison the minds of these children and young people.

Already this year I have written to Irish bishops and none of them is prepared to publicly promote and defend Catholic Church teaching on human sexuality by publicly opposing the promotion of the dangerous LGBT ideology!

The false and dangerous LGBT ideology is rampant in the world and it is causing untold harm to children and young people and our bishops remain silent.

I received one bizarre response from an Irish bishop who likened the LGBT promotion to the parable of the tares and wheat in Matthew 13:24-43, telling me that Jesus counsels patience till the harvest comes.

This is a corrupt understanding of the parable of the tares and wheat and this bishop seems to be

prepared to leave the children at the mercy of the LGBT ideologists because to oppose these ideologists might disturb the wheat?

St John Chrysostom, a doctor of the church, commenting on this particular passage of scripture says of Jesus, “He does not therefore forbid our checking heretics, and stopping their mouths, and taking away their freedom of speech, and breaking up their assemblies and confederacies, but our killing and slaying them.” (Homily 46) Catholic Fathers need to write to their bishops to point out that we expect our bishops to protect our children from those who promote contraception, abortion, and the dangerous LGBT ideology and that we do not want these evil agendas being promoted through Catholic schools and other once Catholic organisations.

We must call on our bishops to speak out against these dangerous ideologies to show Catholic parents that they really do care for our childrens’ spiritual, moral, and physical well-being.

There’s A Place For Us

Homosexuality in the Divine Plan of Redemption There’s A Place For Us: This testimony does not shirk away from difficult Catholic teachings but shows with piercing clarity why the Church teaches as she does in the area of human sexuality. In our lives we are called to a lot more than sexual satisfaction. Rather, we are granted the privilege of living life on the highest possible plane in responding to the call of the greatness of being the Sons and Daughters of God.

There’s a Place for Us Homosexuality in the Divine Plan of Redemption Jesus said to those who would stone her: “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”

“It’s Not Fair!” - The Anthem of Self Gabriel Garnica How often have you heard someone say “It’s not fair”? Chances are you’ve heard these words uttered or even loudly exclaimed more than once.

I will never forget the first time I read one of my favourite Parables, The Vineyard Workers (Matthew 20: 1-16). This is the one where the landowner hires different groups of workers at different points in the day, 6 a.m., 9.a.m., Noon, 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. to work the field . . . and pays them all the same wage!

I emphasize this last part because I, like probably nearly everybody who reads that parable, cannot believe how unfair the landowner seemed.

After all, how can it be fair, by any rational earthly measure, to pay the same wage to folks who work for 12 hours to folks who work only one hour?

To make matters worse, the landowner paid the last workers first, right in front of the earlier groups of workers! He was seemingly oblivious or unconcerned to the almost certain reaction that would ensue from those earlier workers.

One can almost envision this parable as Lesson One in the manual of ‘what not to do if you are a boss with people to pay.’

So if God is silence and peace, and if He is all knowing and wise, how can God be present in the landowner’s decision? Surely, isn’t the evil one, who is all about turmoil, distress, and tumult, the one behind all of this? The answer would be yes to both questions!

God is surely present in the landowner’s decision. God is just like the landowner, generous to everyone and giving freely to alleviate their respective suffering.

In my haste to side with the angry, earliest workers, I had clearly O Jesus, it is for the love of Thee, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and for the conversion of poor sinners [that I do this]. Amen.

After all, they stood there all day, growing in desperation, frustration, hopelessness, fear, shame, and who knows what other toxic feelings.

Imagine passing 11 hours thinking that you will come home emptyhanded, unable to feed your hungry family who depends on you.

Consider the feelings of guilt, failure, and even bitterness that gnawed at them as they stood there.

Ponder the disintegrating selfesteem of knowing that you are incapable of taking care of your family. That last group experienced this suffering for 11 hours that day.

Each passing hour only increased the expectation of a bitter end to a bitter day. I am sure that each of the earlier groups experienced those same feelings.

self-perception of being superior (working more) around their own expectations of pay. Instead of being happy and grateful for their lot, those earlier workers were only thinking of themselves, and grabbing as much benefit as they could to the exclusion of others.

If we focused only on God and what He has given us, we would be far better off. By keeping our attention only on loving and serving God and fulfilling His purpose and mission for each of us, we could more efficiently come to fulfil that mission. If we stopped basing human worth in quantity produced and paid, we could value each person’s unique traits and contributions, and love them more easily apart from such quantities.

The earliest group’s distress that day was short. They got a job quickly and spent their day working hard.

Like anyone else, they expected to get paid what they were promised for their labour. And they received the wage they were promised.

Perhaps, we should work harder on having more consideration and compassion for the suffering of others, and their need to be lovingly served. If we did we might stop looking in our mirrors long enough to make a difference in this world.

We might even make a bigger difference in our eternal destiny.

Their feelings of dissatisfaction and cries of unfairness only erupted when they compared themselves to the later groups, especially the latest group. Therein lies their anger. It was caused by their own ingratitude to what was promised and given them. They wrapped their

had no time or concern for the agenda and needs of others less fortunate.

Their cries of unfairness only arose when they felt their selfinterest was wronged somehow.

I am sure that the Noon and 3 p.m. workers were not too happy that the 5 p.m. workers were paid equally to them, but those same later workers had no issue with being paid equally to the 6 a.m. workers.

The landowner represents God. He is motivated by compassion and love and not by earthly measures of justice and worth. We are represented by the workers, especially the earliest ones, who are far more concerned with grabbing their piece of the pie and, perhaps even a bit more, than with serving pie to others.

Speaking of Parables, consider too, the famous Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32).

Many focus on the ungrateful, prodigal son who wipes out his inheritance after demanding it from a kind, loving father. Others focus on the loving father who forgives so easily.

Truth be told, we are often that prodigal son but we are just as often the so-called good son. Recall that the good son’s reaction to his father’s loving welcome of the wayward son is not so good. We consider that son “good” because apparently he obeyed his father. The ‘good’ son fulfilled his responsibilities, and ostensibly respected the father and his household.

However, we saw that so-called goodness dissolve once ‘the good son’ sniffed unfairness. He changes when he sees that the father is overjoyed at the return of the traitorous son. The father even offers the wayward son gifts that were never offered to him.

Rather than being overjoyed with the return of his brother, the ‘good’ son is so wrapped up in himself and his agenda that he cannot appreciate what his father has given him. Rather than joining in the festivities of his brother’s return, this so-called good son stews outside in bitterness and resentment. He doesn’t even soften after his father’s explanation and request.

How often do each of us focus only on what we want, how we are treated, and how things affect us? And how regularly do we measure things on our terms to the exclusion of the terms, agenda, and needs of others? How many times do we assess right and wrong, fair and unfair, according to earthly measures so often steeped in self?

As we approach yet another Lenten season, let us consider how the pure and innocent Christ silently suffered the greatest injustice and unfairness of all out of love for us.

Maybe, this year, we can offer both our blessings and our struggles, our fortune and misfortune, and what we believe fair and unfair, to God, as an offering of thanks and prayer for those who are not so fortunate.

Maybe, just maybe, we can begin to cultivate the kind of silence, and peace, that comes from God and knowing that earthly measures of fairness are dripping with self and the only goal that matters is God. He alone is the only destiny that should matter to us. Perhaps, the next time you want to say “It’s not fair,” you can replace those words with “It’s all love.”

The West Must Now Confront Its Weakness Christopher Monckton of Brenchley

The four freedoms of the West – the freedom of religion, the freedom of election, the freedom of markets and the freedom of speech – have for decades been under evergrowing assault at the hands of the bitterly anti-Christian Communistled regimes of Russia and China.

The response of our prelates and politicians has been relentlessly craven. The Holy See and the Bishops’ Conferences of most Western nations seem far too much at ease with Communism. As for our politicians, they continue to reduce our nations’ military strength.

But why is the subject of preparing for war a proper subject for a journal dedicated to the religion of peace?

Consider Tibet. Under the generally gentle theocracy of successive embodiments of the Dalai Lama, chosen by a process even more eccentric and impenetrable than the Doges of Venice, did not maintain armed forces sufficient to deter, let alone repel, the brutal Communist hordes of Mao Tse-tung. Weakness, however piously intended, invites aggression.

Bleating ineffectually about peace, as churchmen tend to do, does not prevent war. For grasping dictators do not respect religion: indeed, the Communists regard religion as what Marx called “the opium of the people”. They were, and are, determined to stamp it out.

Pope St. John Paul II, speaking in Coventry 40 years ago, said this: “The scale and horror of modern warfare render it unacceptable as a means of resolving disputes between nations.” And yet, as I shall now reveal, that scale and horror, intelligently directed and deployed, can and should serve as the guarantor of peace.

In Britain, for instance, the armed forces at the end of each of the two World Wars comprised 4.5 million men. Yet, in the past decade alone, a supposedly “Conservative” administration has reduced the already paltry forces by almost a quarter. Now, there are only 140,000.

Mr Putin, with a population twice that of Britain, now has five times as many troops per head of population as we do. He commands 1.4 million men. Ever since he stole Russia back from democracy in 2000 with his silent coup against Boris Yeltsin, he has been quietly rebuilding Russia’s military might.

And we in Europe have been paying for it. Russian agents in the Communist front groups that call themselves the environmental movement have been exploiting the scientific illiteracy of the Western classe politique by pretending that mildly warmer worldwide weather is a “climate emergency”.

As a result, coal-fired power stations, the cheapest and most reliable competition for the Russian

gas without which Europe can now no longer keep its lights on have been needlessly shut down, putting Europe at even graver risk than in 1939.

Europe as a whole cannot muster as many men under arms as Russia already has. From the weakest and most Communist-inclined administration under which the United States has ever suffered, we can expect none of the vital assistance from the other side of the pond that we relied upon in the Second World War. The classes politiques of the Western nations, sapped by generations of Russian and more recently also of Chinese Communist infiltration and subversion, have lost the will to defend democracy. The heart of the people is soft and sheep-like.

No surprise, then, that the Chiefs of Staff of the British Armed Forces have recently and gloomily forecast the extinction of democracy within the next few decades.

and telephone call between Mr Putin and those who pretend to be our “leaders”. Those diplomatic initiatives will inevitably come to nothing. For Mr Putin holds all the cards. By our foolish belief in the nonsensical global warming narrative, we have thrown away our ability to generate the electrical power on which every business depends, unless Mr Putin chooses to keep the gas flowing through the pipelines.

All talk of sanctions against Russia is, therefore, futile. In December, before Mr Putin invaded the Ukraine, he turned off the gas for a short time (pretending that there was a technical problem), and the price of Siberian gas to Europe rose from six times the world price to 200 times the world price overnight.

Yet not a word of contrition has yet escaped the lips of the innumerate, short-sighted politicians who have allowed themselves to be swayed by Communists posing as environmentalists so thoroughly and for so long.

The news media, also long since captured by Communism, are all but totally silent in the face of a Russian aggression that can no longer be successfully resisted, even if – which is not happening – the whole of Europe and the whole of NATO were to stand together.

When both the leaders of Europe and the Holy See are now fatally penetrated by a cruel ideology that remains implacably opposed to everything that Christianity stands for, the outlook seems dire.

Yet in reality the Left – at the very moment of its apparent triumph – faces total ideological collapse. The reason is that the world was made for love, and not for hate. As Europe and America are bankrupted by the deadly combination of the Chinese virus – which Peking deliberately spread worldwide – and the climate nonsense peddled by China and Russia, and as the impoverished populations of the West realise that their leaders have sold out to the

THE WEST IS WEAK 19 religion of hate that is Communism, they will awaken and will choose new, wiser and better educated leaders.

The next decade will be rough – very rough. We shall have to stand together to support those of our fellow citizens who are most grievously impoverished by the myopia of our failed political elite.

We must continue to pray for the Ukraine, for Taiwan, for India and for the many other nations whose independence, democracy, economic strength and territorial integrity are menaced by Russia and China under Tsar Vladimir and Emperor Xi Jinping.

By the time you read this, it may well be that the Ukraine – against the will of the great majority of its people and of those whom they have elected to represent them – is once again under the brute force of Russian rule.

The policy of the pre-emptive cringe that has served the West so ill must now be abandoned. If our “leaders” will not stand up to Communist brutality, the gentle democracy under which we once prospered will be gone within a generation. Everyone will mourn its passing.

And don’t even think of buying an electric buggy to replace your real car. The price of lithium carbonate, in which Communist China whose agents in the environmental movement has cornered and now controls the world market, is six times what it was a year ago, and will be a hundred times that in five years’ time.

It is time for the West to awaken from the slumber that oxymoronically calls itself “woke”. We can no longer afford to pander to the cruelties and

WHAT IS AN ORDINARY CATHOLIC? Mary Kearns

It has been claimed that the spirituality of Irish Catholics is almost completely devotional; we do not relate easily to Scripture or ecclesiology or an understanding of liturgical practice. We love what are called “sensible signs” of the faith, things we can see and touch, for example blessed candles, crosses, ashes, palms, holy water etc. Those outside the faith identify Catholics as people obsessed with holy pictures and statues, medals and scapula, prayer leaflets and novena booklets. The list seems almost unending. We love to light candles in the church and an opportunity to be blessed with a sacred relic brings crowds out in large numbers.

We take part in processions and pilgrimages and we arrange to have Mass offered for our family and friends as well as for the sick and the deceased.

That is not all. Ordinary Catholics are committed to the holy sacrifice of the Mass and to the sacraments.

Many of us can be found at Mass every day, at Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament whenever possible and we try to avail of the sacrament of Penance at least every month.

This is the popular piety of the ordinary faithful Catholic people and there is nothing wrong with it.

In fact, the 2001 Vatican document “Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy” makes the important point that historically, it was the devotion of the Catholic people that frequently kept the faith alive in times of trouble.

Is that enough? Well no, it isn’t actually. Most of us admit that we fail badly when it comes to Scripture. It was never part of our Catholic tradition to be able to quote chapter and verse from the bible and we are still a bit uneasy giving the response to the psalm at

Mass. We sense there is something wrong here but we are not sure what it is.

Ordinary Catholics are often criticised; the criticism varies from disparagement to amused tolerance and it does not come solely from nonCatholics. This brings about conflict and division and we are usually illequipped to deal with it. It would be very difficult to try and trace where the problem started and why those who call themselves Catholics apparently believe different things.

Many sincere people want to make a new Church, one that is more acceptable to the people; a Church that would bring about an increase in vocations and a greater attendance at liturgical celebrations. These people may be sincere, but they are sincerely wrong of course because the Church does not grow by becoming more human but by the grace of God and our co-operation with her supernatural nature, as evidenced in countries where she is growing.

It would be hard to estimate the degree of distress and frustration

that ordinary Catholics experience when they find themselves involved in parish activities or pastoral ministry with many committed others who have the support of the parish priest and are confident in what they are doing. Innovations in the sacred liturgy are the most obvious ways where unwarranted changes can happen when the liturgical norms are disregarded.

To use an apt cliché, we are just not singing from the same hymn sheet. The nub of the problem is that modernist people consider that ordinary Catholics belong to an antiquated Church which they erroneously believe existed in the years before the Second Vatican Council. Now they hold, the Church has “moved on” and those of us who are ordinary Catholics are trying to hold back progress and re-institute practices (like the Holy Hour with rosary and Benediction) which should be long forgotten.

Then there is the middle ground and this can be dangerous. It is occupied by genuine orthodox Catholic people who want to follow the teaching of the Church

but due to deficient catechesis, the fundamental precepts of the Faith have not been taught.

Older Catholics learned these truths in childhood. Nowadays there are thank God, young people who have caught the faith, sometimes in an organization like Youth 2000 or even from a friend or family member. They embrace the faith with enthusiasm and sometimes decide to study theology. Depending on what qualifications they obtain, they are in a position to teach the Catholic faith. There are some good courses that can be taken on-line but these often presume a level of knowledge that is often simply not there.

If a person wants to undertake a course towards a Masters degree in Mathematics, it is not likely that he will have to demonstrate a degree of proficiency in the twelve times table.

Similarly, it will be presumed that adult Catholics know the Blessed Trinity is the fundamental doctrine, that the Mass is the same sacrifice as that of the Cross, and that God communicates His grace primarily through the Sacraments. These few basic beliefs can no longer be taken for granted even in those who are committed to Catholicism.

In one way the modernists are right in saying that things have moved on, though not in the sense that Catholic doctrine has changed. The change is that we can now talk about our faith in a way that takes account of the fact that the Council affirmed the primacy of the three pillars of the faith – Tradition, Scripture and the Magisterium.

The words that best help here come from ‘Dei Verbum’ (The Word of God) one of the key documents of the Council: Article 10 “It is clear, therefore, that sacred tradition, Sacred Scripture and the teaching authority of the

Church, in accord with God’s most wise design, are so linked and joined together that one cannot stand without the others, and that all together and each in its own way under the action of the one Holy Spirit contribute effectively to the salvation of souls.” ‘Dei Verbum‘ (The Word of God).

authority of Scripture but sacred Tradition is often degraded and misunderstood as being “the way things were long ago.” If we hear this, we can straight away respond and explain that here we are talking about sacred Tradition not just “the way we always do things around here.”

A few words from ‘Sacrosanctum Concilium’ (The Constitution on the Liturgy) will also help when we are faced with assertions from pastoral assistants and liturgical consultants who tell us that many regulations in the practice of liturgy are simply “man-made additions” which can be unmade and that this is the time of the laity who are now permitted to carry out roles formerly reserved to clergy.

Even being able to refer to this document gives us the authority to claim that the Church’s teaching on liturgy is to be given the same respect as the bible and to make the point that sacred Tradition is what the early Church was built on before the New Testament was written.

Article 22 “Regulation of the sacred liturgy depends solely on the authority of the Church, that is, on the Apostolic See and, as laws may determine, on the bishop. Therefore no other person, even if he be a priest, may add, remove, or change anything in the liturgy on his own authority.”

It is important to say this when we are challenged with words that undermine the teaching of the Church. No-one questions the

If ever there was doubt the biblical End Times prophecies of La Salette were upon us, we need not look too far from home for proof.

Speaking at an Anti-lockdown Freedom Rally in Belfast recently, an Irish Nationalist speaker gave testimony to this fact that today we are in the throes of such divine revelations.

The speaker told hundreds of protesters gathered before the City Hall, that increasingly he finds himself sharing the same ideals as his once bitter arch-rival, and century long oppressor – the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).

Making light of it, he asked the crowd: “Who would have thought it?” Innately, he appeared to understand its significance.

Despite this nod to the party’s efficacy in opposing Covid Lockdowns and mandatory vaccinations for everyone, the DUP are now bearing the brunt of relentless persecution both from the main stream news media and within its own ranks, for adhering to Christian principles and values in government.

Never before, in the history of the state, has there been such bitter acrimony and demonisation directed toward a party for upholding Christ’s laws. Something the DUP have never seemed to have given up on. Instinctively, they know that without Him lies the greatest scourge of a nation.

former First Minister, Paul Givan resigned over an impossible piece of proposed legislation that he believed would stifle trade and hinder prosperity for the region, post Brexit.

Party stalwarts and principled Pro-Life Christians such as Jim Wells and Edwin Poots have been ousted by their own members from standing in the forthcoming election this May. They’ve been replaced by more moderate-leaning and relatively unknown candidates who would look more at home at a regional final of a beauty contest than a local Assembly election.

After 46 years with the party and whose career can be wholly defined by his bitter opposition to gay civil unions and abortion, Jim Wells was reported to say: “I have to accept my DUP career has ended in humiliation.”

He added: “I have stood against what I see as an undermining of what makes society stable. Any opportunity I had to take, I did, often at great personal cost. I’ve had to block thousands of people

on social media because of my stance in taking on these issues. I think someone has to stand up and say ‘hold on a minute, not everyone agrees with this.”

Mr Wells did not rule out standing as an independent or whether he might consider building a new United Christian Party in the future.

Meanwhile, much ground has been lost since the province’s last election in 2017. The last five years have seen Northern Ireland, once a fierce little corner of Northern Europe who fought above its weight to protect its moral fibre from pagan influence, has relented, and in no small way.

Abortion, has been forced onto the people of Northern Ireland by the corridors of power at Westminster despite 79 per cent of its people voting to oppose it in a public consultation, just months before. In October 2019, while the Assembly was suspended, a law known as The Offences Against the Person Act, was overturned almost overnight, having been in place for almost 150 years, and replaced by the NI Executive Formation Act.

11th March 2022 Since its enactment in March 2020, and despite the law not being fully commissioned, 2,394 babies have been killed by abortion – their potential to be wonderful one day, robbed from them without so much as a tear shed.

Despite these obscene numbers being obliterated, Northern Ireland Secretary, Brandon Lewis issued a directive in July last year, to force the Assembly to fully commission abortion services up to the 24th week of pregnancy.

Most disturbingly, the ease by which a High Court judge ruled against a legal challenge that could have prevented its implementation would have seen Stalin rub his hands in glee. Instead, he ruled in favour of Lewis exercising his power to ignore the lawful process of devolution and override the entire Assembly, in February of this year.

Catholic Voice Just a few months previous, in December 2021 the Assembly was asked to vote on whether babies with disabilities which included children with Down Syndrome, Cleft Palette and Club Foot, should be protected from abortion, 42 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) said yes. But, despite this, 45 MLA’s supported killing these babies.

Those that supported the move held no surprise. They included apostate Catholic members of Sinn Fein, SDLP, the Green Party, Alliance, People Before Profit and the increasingly liberal Ulster Unionist Party, who preach the monotonous diatribe of tolerance, modernity and progress, much like their neoliberal counterparts.

Aggressively secular politicians – that is every other apostate Catholic MLA is biting at the bit to fast-track 28 Bills including Climate Change, Organ Donation and a Bill that will criminalise men and women who pray outside abortion centres, in just 15 days, offering limited

debate long into the night, without full and proper scrutiny before the Assembly winds up by the end of March.

Lest we forget, gay marriage is now legal. Again, it crept in under a cloak of deception in 2020. So as Ulster takes to the polls again on May 5, who knows what dirty tricks will be deployed by those intent on eradicating Christian principles from public life entirely.

Northern Irish Pro Life campaigners are urging voters to see beyond their traditional preferences of Green and Orange and temporarily park other less urgent beliefs such as environmental or socialist causes and vote to protect life, at every stage, in this upcoming election.

PATRICK KAVANAGH - His Mystical Vicion Richard Greene There was the element of the true prophet and mystic about Patrick Kavanagh, the poet, whilst he lived.

In other words he was despised and rejected by his own. Many wondered how such a great poet could emerge out of such a culturally deprived and poverty stricken place as the village of Inniskeen in the early years of the last century. I’m sure some of the locals of Inniskeen must have muttered “Is this not the Cobbler’s son?” when he began to make a name for himself in some controversy or other in the city of Dublin. Well, the cobbler’s son has gone on to be one of the most popular poets among Irish people today. The rural life of Monaghan that inspired some of his best poems is now a distant memory to most people living in our post Celtic Tiger Ireland.

Yet one has to ask why this poet who is now so cherished today amongst Irish people has not garnered a huge international following like Yeats, Heaney or James Joyce.

His loyal and dedicated brother, Peter Kavanagh did sterling work in editing and collecting his work, publishing it and finally lecturing about him from his base in America.

Here are a few reasons I suggest for this being so. He was unfortunate in the timing to choose to launch his literary career. He abandoned his small farm in Monaghan and first came to Dublin a week before the Second World War started. These were very difficult years for most people, never mind a penniless poet in his mid-thirties hoping to make a living from literature. There were rough edges to his personality and aspects of the mystic that would not encourage patrons and publishers to employ him or give him a leg up.

This combination of personality traits made him the natural outsider, with a facility to bite the hand that fed him. However he was published

by Longman’s, an internationally know publishing house, and he did accumulate many loyal and supportive friends and patrons, among them, Archbishop McQuaid of Dublin. Towards the end of this life he achieved some stability with his marriage to Kathleen Maloney, and a national recognition along with the admiration and respect of the new generation of Irish poets.

Major international recognition eluded him, however.

Patrick Kavanagh, in some respects, reminds me of the great Russian

poet Osip Mandelstom (1891-1938) who also bore aspects of the prophet and mystic about him. Mandelstom dreamt of bringing the best western classical and Christian culture to Russia and this at a time when its new leaders after the 1917 October revolution had just embarked on a long and disastrous love affair with atheistic materialism.

After he wrote a poem attacking Stalin he was ostracised, sent into exile, and eventually died in a Siberian transit camp. Both of these poets were the outsiders in their respective societies; both of them possessed a deep mystical belief in the power of poetry to change the world; and both of them refused to compromise their poetic beliefs.

Had he the personality to be more accommodating, the Fianna Fáil Government of the time might have found him a secure sinecure, as they have found and continue to find today for many less talented party followers. Mandelstom’s inability to swallow atheistic materialism led him finally to one of Stalin’s many death camps. However, unlike Kavanagh, his reputation is secure both in Russia and abroad, and he is now acknowledged as the great Russian poet of the 20th Century.

Perhaps because Kavanagh is a very Catholic poet this has hindered his international reputation. Grahame Greene, acknowledged as one of the greatest English novelists of the 21st Century, was never awarded the Nobel Prize for literature.

This anti-Catholic prejudice among some of those powerful on international literary committees may be a reason Kavanagh has not obtained the international acclaim given to Yeats and Heaney.

In a recently published book “No Earthly Estate, God and Patrick Kavanagh” Fr Tom Stack notes that in 253 extant published poems of Kavanagh, no fewer than 138 of them “include explicitly religious themes, images or illusions.”

Patrick Kavanagh is now the Irish people’s most loved poet because his mystical poetic vision is fully in tune with an island people that has had 1,500 years of Catholic tradition and endured 700 years of colonial oppression. His best poems capture the two conflicting influences on the soul of the Irish people - a deep spirituality coloured by the spectacular landscape of this beautiful island, and inordinate and materialistic attachment to the land caused by centuries of dispossession.

I myself was introduced to the poetry of Patrick Kavanagh as a child by my late father who was a close friend of the late Leo Holohan

- a true and loyal friend of the poet.

I was very pleased to read in Sr. Una Agnew’s book “The Mystical Imagination of Patrick Kavanagh” that Leo Holohan was reported to have been at Kavanagh’s bedside while he was dying, and to have heard him repeatedly say before he died “Oh God I believe.” Later when I was studying at TCD, I had the privilege to meet this scholarly and gifted man.

Work For God’s Kingdom

Everyone knows that if you put in the hard work, rewards will follow.

This nugget of truth and wisdom originates from Sacred Scripture.

“Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows, because the one who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the spirit will reap eternal life from the spirit. Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6: 7-9) After reading God’s word, we should always take the time to reflect on how to apply its message to our daily life. Considering the verse from Galatians, we might first ask what kind of work we should be doing.

If we come to realize that we are made with special talents and a purpose, and we discover who we are and the gifts God has specifically given us, we should not hesitate to nurture our talents and give back by using our gifts.

Here are other similar spiritual nuggets of wisdom God gives us through Sacred Scripture.

The kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking good pearls.

Who when he had found one pearl of great price, Went his way, and sold all that he had, and bought it.

“Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”

For good examples to follow, just look to the saints. Read about them and pray to them often. They are always ready to guide us towards God. There are various paths you may take in this life, which is for you to prayerfully discern. I can say if

26 GOD’S KINGDOM your vocation is married life and you are single, a good prayer to meditate on is the “Be Satisfied With Me” prayer attributed to Saint Anthony of Padua. This prayer has really helped me to realize another truth: We need to put God first before any human relationship.

For a marriage to thrive in the way God intended when He thought of bringing the two together as one, God must be first and the center of the relationship.

The following prayer is attributed to Saint Anthony of Padua.

Be Satisfied With Me Prayer Everyone longs to give themselves completely to someone, To have a deep soul relationship with another, To be loved thoroughly and exclusively.

But God, to a Christian, says, “No, not until you are satisfied, fulfilled and content With being loved by Me alone, With giving yourself totally and unreservedly to Me, With having an intensely personal and unique relationship With Me alone.

Discovering that only in Me is your satisfaction to be found, Will you be capable of the perfect human relationship That I have planned for you.

You will never be united with another until you are united With Me alone, Exclusive of anyone or anything else, Exclusive of any other desires or longings.

I want you to stop planning, Stop wishing, And allow Me to give you the most thrilling plan existing, One that you cannot imagine.

But it will be asked: ‘Are there, then, no lawful dispensations?’

We answer that there are; and that they are more needed now than in former ages, owing to the general weakness of our constitutions.

Still, there is great danger of our deceiving ourselves. If we have strength to go through great fatigues when our own self-love is gratified by them, how is it we are too weak to observe abstinence?

If a slight inconvenience deter us from doing this penance, how shall we ever make expiation for our sins for expiation is essentially painful to nature. The opinion of our physician that fasting will weaken us, may be false, or it may be correct; but is not this mortification of the flesh the very object that the Church aims at, knowing that our soul will profit by the body being brought into subjection?

But let us suppose the dispensation to be necessary: that our health would be impaired, and the duties of our state of life neglected, if we were to observe the law of Lent to the letter: do we, in such a case, endeavour, by other works of penance, to supply for those which our health does not allow us to observe?

Are we grieved and humbled to find ourselves thus unable to join with the rest of the faithful children of the Church, in bearing the yoke of Lenten discipline?

Do we ask of our Lord to grant us the grace, next year, of sharing in the merits of our fellow Christians, and of observing those holy practices which give the soul an assurance of mercy and pardon?

If we do, the dispensation will not be detrimental to our spiritual interests; and when the feast of Easter comes, inviting the faithful to partake in its grand joys, we may confidently take our place side by side with those who have fasted; for though our bodily weakness has not permitted us to keep pace with them exteriorly, our heart has been faithful to the spirit of Lent.

How long a list of proofs we could still give of the negligence, into which the modern spirit of se1findulgence leads so many among us, in regard of fasting and abstinence!

Thus, there are Catholics to be found in every part of the world who make their Easter Communion, and profess themselves to be children of the Catholic Church, who yet have no idea of the obligations of Lent.

Their very notion of fasting and abstinence is so vague, that they are

not aware that these two practices are quite distinct one from the other; and that the dispensation from one does not, in any way, include a dispensation from the other.

If they have, lawfully or unlawfully, obtained exemption from abstinence, it never so much as enters into their minds that the obligation of fasting is still binding upon them during the whole forty days; or if they have had granted to them a dispensation from fasting, they conclude that they may eat any kind of food they wish upon any day. Such ignorance as this is the natural result of the indifference wherewith the commandments and traditions of the Church are treated.

So far, we have been speaking of the non-observance of Lent in its relation to individuals and Catholics; let us now say a few words upon the influence which

that same non-observance has upon a whole people or nation. There are but few social questions which have not been ably and spiritedly treated of by the public writers of the age, who have devoted their talents to the study of political economy; and it has often been a matter of surprise to us that they should have overlooked a subject of such deep interest as this: the results produced on society by the abolition of Lent; that is to say, of an institution which, more than any other, keeps up in the public mind a keen sentiment of moral right and wrong, inasmuch as it imposes on a nation an annual expiation for sin.

No shrewd penetration is needed to see the difference between two nations, one of which observes, each year, a forty-days’ penance in reparation of the violations committed against the law of God, and another, whose very principles reject all such solemn reparation. And looking at the subject from another point of view — is it not to be feared that the excessive use of animal food tends to weaken, rather than to strengthen, the constitution? We are convinced of it: the time will come when a greater proportion of vegetable, and less of animal, diet will be considered as an essential means for maintaining the strength of the human frame.

Let, then, the children of the Church courageously observe the Lenten practices of penance. Peace of

conscience is essential to Christian life; and yet it is promised to non but truly penitent souls. Lost innocence is to be regained by the humble confession of the sin, when it is accompanied by the absolution of the priest; but let the faithful be on their guard against the dangerous error, which would persuade them that they have nothing to do when once pardoned.

Let them remember the solemn warning given them by the Holy Ghost in the sacred Scriptures: ‘Be not without fear about sin forgiven!’ (Ecclesiasticus 5:5) Our confidence of our having been forgiven should be in proportion to the change or conversion of our heart; the greater our present detestation of our past sins and the more earnest our desire to do penance for them for the rest of our lives, the better founded is our confidence that they have been pardoned. ‘Man knoweth not,’ as the same holy Volume assures us, ‘whether he be worthy of love or hatred’ but he that keeps up within him the spirit of penance, has every reason to hope that God loves him.

But the courageous observance of the Church’s precept of fasting and abstaining during Lent must be accompanied by those two other eminently good works, to which God so frequently urges us in the Scripture: prayer and alms deeds. Just as under the term ‘fasting’ the Church comprises all kinds of mortification; so under the word ‘prayer’ she includes all those exercises of piety whereby the soul holds intercourse with her God. More frequent attendance at the services of the Church, assisting daily at Mass, spiritual reading, meditation upon eternal truths and the Passion, hearing sermons, and, above all, approaching the Sacraments of Penance and the holy Eucharist — these are the chief means whereby the faithful should offer to God the homage of prayer, during this holy season.

holy doctors of the Church, as being the necessary complement of fasting and prayer during Lent. God has made it a law, to which He has graciously bound Himself, that charity shown towards our fellowcreatures, with the intention of pleasing our Creator, shall be rewarded as though it were done to Himself.

How vividly this brings before us the reality and sacredness of the tie which He would have to exist between all men! Such, indeed, is its necessity, that our heavenly Father will not accept love of any heart that refuses to show mercy: but, on the other hand, He accepts as genuine and as done to Himself the charity of every Christian, who, by a work of mercy shown to a fellow-man, is really acknowledging and honouring that sublime union which makes all men to be one family with God as its Father. Hence it is that alms deeds, done with this intention, are not merely acts of human kindness, but are raised to the dignity of acts of religion, which have God for their direct object, and have the power of appeasing His divine justice.

Let us remember the counsel given by the Archangel Raphael to Tobias. He was on the point of taking leave of this holy family, and returning to heaven; and these were his words: ‘Prayer is good with fasting and alms, more than to lay up treasures of gold: for alms delivers from death, and the same is that which purges away sins, and makes to find mercy and life everlasting.’

(Tobit 12:8-9) Equally strong is the recommendation given to this virtue by the Book of Ecclesiasticus: ‘ Water quenches a flaming fire, and alms resists sins!’ (Ecclesiasticus 3:33) And again: ‘Shut up alms in the heart of the poor, and it shall obtain help for thee against all evil.’ (Ecclesiasticus 29:15) The Christian should keep these consoling promises ever before his mind, but more especially during the season of Lent. The rich man should show the poor, whose whole year is a fast, that there is a time when even he has his self-imposed privations.

The faithful observance of Lent naturally produces a saving; let that saving be given to Lazarus. Nothing,

surely, could be more opposed to the spirit of this holy season, than keeping up a table as richly and delicately provided as at other periods of the year, when God permits us to use all the comforts compatible with the means He has given us.

But how thoroughly Christian is it that, during these days of penance and charity, the life of the poor man should be made more comfortable, in proportion as that of the rich shares in the hardships and privations of his suffering brethren throughout the world!

Poor and rich would then present themselves, with all the beauty of fraternal love upon them, at the divine Banquet of the Paschal feast, to which our risen Jesus will invite us after these forty days are over. to be cont’d...

“Venerable Archdeacon Cavanagh” is a must read. Chapter Vl “Archdeacon’s Diary Of Cures” is of particular interest. Please note that Holy Communion, during Venerable Archdeacon Cavanagh’s times, was always received from a priest, on the tongue and kneeling (when possible).

(Please note: Archdeacon Cavanagh, now Venerable Archdeacon Cavanagh as evidenced from his memorial tablet in Knock Parish Church, only ever said the Latin Tridentine Mass since this was the only valid and licit Mass during his lifetime.)

It is universally accepted that doctors, nurses and carers are permitted, with the patient’s consent, to administer prescribed medication on the tongue and into the mouth. It now seems, however, that unlike in Venerable Archdeacon Cavanagh’s day that this practice does not extend itself to your priests or the Synodal Pathway, in Knock specifically or Ireland generally, and the Supernatural Medicine that is the Most Holy Eucharist of the Lamb of God.
