The Feast Of The Epiphany Canon Brieuc de La Brosse ICKSP Just a few days after Christmas Our Holy Mother the Church invites us to celebrate the great Feast of the Epiphany. This is once again an occasion to realise the great treasure that the Liturgy represents.

Let us learn from Dom Guéranger, in his book The Liturgical Year, the origins and the meaning of this great solemnity: “The Feast of the Epiphany is the continuation of the mystery of Christmas; but it appears on the Calendar of the Church with its own special character. Its very name, which signifies Manifestation, implies that it celebrates the apparition of God to his creatures.

For several centuries, the Nativity of our Lord was kept on this day.

When, in the year 376, the decree of the Holy See obliged all Churches to keep the Nativity on the 25th December, as Rome did - the Sixth of January was not robbed of all its ancient glory. It was still to be called the Epiphany, and the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ was also commemorated on this same Feast, which Tradition had marked as the day on which that Baptism took place.

The Epiphany shares with the Feasts of Christmas, Easter, Ascension, and Pentecost, the honour of being called, in the Canon of the Mass, a Day most holy. It is also one of the cardinal Feasts, that is, one of those on which the arrangement of the Christian Year is based; for, as we have Sundays after Easter, and Sundays after Pentecost, so also

we count six Sundays after the Epiphany.”

This Solemnity gave rise to many Christian customs. In the Middle-Ages, the Faithful used to present, on the Epiphany, gold, frankincense, and myrrh, to be blessed by the Priest. These tokens of their devotedness to Jesus were kept as pledges of God’s blessing upon their houses and families.

This blessing can still be used, here is an extract: “Accept, holy Father, from me, your unworthy servant, these gifts which I humbly offer to the honour of your holy name and in recognition of your peerless majesty, as you once accepted the sacrifice of the just Abel and the same kind of gifts from the three Magi.”

“There was another custom, which originated in the Ages of Faith, and which is still observed in many countries. In honour of the Three Kings, who came from the East to adore the Babe of Bethlehem, each family chose one of its members to be King.

The choice was thus made. The family kept a feast, which was an allusion to the third of the EpiphanyMysteries - the Feast of Cana in Galilee - a Cake was served up, and he who took the piece which had a certain secret mark, was proclaimed the King of the day.

Two portions of the cake were reserved for the poor, in whom honour was thus paid to the Infant Jesus and his Blessed Mother; for, on this Day of the triumph of Him, who, though King, was humble and poor, it was fitting that the poor should have a share in the general joy.

The happiness of home was here, as in so many other instances, blended with the sacredness of Religion.

This custom of King’s Feast brought relations and friends together, and encouraged feelings of kindness

and charity. King’s Feast is still a Christmas joy in thousands of families; and happy those where it is kept in the Christian spirit which first originated it!”

In the Eve of this Feast, we find another pious tradition, which came from the East: the blessing of the Epiphany water and the blessing of the Houses. This Holy Water, which recalls the waters of the Jordan, is a visible reminder of Christ’s Divinity as revealed

by His heavenly Father at His Baptism: “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased.” This blessed Epiphany water also recalls the water changed miraculously

by Christ into wine at Cana as a foreshadowing of the institution of the Holy Eucharist.

Chalk for each family is also blessed so that they may mark the names of the three Magi over their doors, as a witness of their faith and protection against evil. The text of the blessing is: “Bless, O Lord God, this creature, chalk, and let it be a help to mankind. Grant that those who will use it with faith in your most holy name, and with it inscribe on the

doors of their homes the names of your saints, Casper, Melchior, and Balthazar, may through their merits and intercession enjoy health in body and protection of soul; through Christ our Lord.”

In this great Solemnity, the Church unites three mysteries in Her Divine Liturgy: the Mystery of the Magi coming to Bethlehem; then the Baptism of our Saviour and lastly the Mystery of the Marriage of Cana. Each one of them aims at manifesting the Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, as it is shown in the collect of the Feast: “O God, You Who by the guidance of a star this day revealed Your only-begotten Son to the Gentiles; mercifully grant that we who know You now by faith, may come to behold You in glory.”

O Lord, reveal your divinity to all mankind, and just as once You drew the Magi from East to you, now in like manner unite all peoples and all nations around your manger!

Fathers Are The Spiritual Leaders In The Home Here’s How They Can Fulfil That Duty Pablo Gonzalez Have you ever walked away from a serious car accident? You are bumped and bruised, nothing serious, but your car is totalled. You look around confused and disoriented, make sure all parties are fine, are dismayed at the condition of your car, your heart sinks — but you are grateful to be in one piece. All you can do is thank God for protecting you.

Our eighth child, Jacinta Terezia, was born on October 17, 2021. It was a spiritual car crash. In fact, her time on earth, from conception to birth, was exhausting.

Our seventh, Alfonso, is almost 3 years old. In between them, my wife lost three pregnancies. Somewhere in the range of six to nine weeks, always painful, both physically and emotionally. We really thought God was telling us that we would no longer have children. You would think, with six handsome boys and one beautiful girl, it would be easy to accept, yet there was a real sadness of loss, of something left unfulfilled. After the last miscarriage, I woke up one day somber and told my wife “I am so confused as to God’s will, I had a dream where I was holding a little girl.”

Then, we got pregnant with Jacinta, and I firmly believe the evil one was after her from the day of conception.

My wife immediately had pain, sometimes she would spot. We interviewed several midwives, no one seemed like a great fit. From our fallen away family or non-Catholic acquaintances we got those looks and comments. “Again?!?!” “Don’t they understand God has already given them enough?” And my all-time favourite, making the scissors gesture with the fingers: “Is it possibly time for ‘snip, snip,’ Pablo?” The positive flip side to it was that many, many people offered to help, prayer warriors from our church, family, friends,

even colleagues, prayed incessantly for my wife.

People made meals and some even gave us gift cards for groceries, it truly was touching to see.

Physically, it was very difficult for Elena, so we decided on bed rest, and for the first nine weeks she literally only got up to eat, bathe or go to the bathroom.

I worked my job, cooked, cleaned, did laundry, drove kids to activities and Mass, etc. (You know things are rough when children under 14 say, “Oh no, pizza again?!?!”) And the devil was relentless. The majority of my income is commission-based, and sales took a dive. I was exhausted, temperamental, and distraught at my wife’s suffering. Jesus, I trust in you is all we’d end up saying after venting our failure to understand God’s will.

Once we made it through the first trimester, things changed considerably. Elena had energy, she felt better, both physically and emotionally. With the last three losses, we had never made it that far, so things felt as if we were headed in the right direction. The next 23 weeks or so were hard but not impossible. We met a truly loving and caring midwife team, but every so often she would have a setback, occasionally she would spot, giving us great anxiety, or she would just need to go back to bed for a few days. Almost always, within a couple of days, she bounced back on her feet.

When we went to our 35-week appointment, we were told the baby was fine but very low. We really needed to make it to 37 weeks to have this baby at home. We have used midwives for all the births, but the last five were at home, and we wanted that beautiful experience again. When we heard, “You’re doing well, but baby is very low,” we chose to have Elena go once again on

bedrest. Prayer warriors sharpened their weapons and went off to battle for us one more time. We hit the 37week mark, which meant no hospital intervention, and we felt an incredible relief. Get away from me Satan, was all I could think — we made it!

Our due date was October 21, but early on October 16, Elena called me to the room and told me, “I was stretching, doing light exercises, and my water broke.”

We were both excited, albeit perplexed, since that had never happened so early before. I started inflating the birthing tub, we called the midwife, got our birthing kit ready. Things were calm until about 3 or 4 a.m. the next day, when baby started to get ready for birth.

The midwives showed up, one started filming every so often and working with Elena. My amazing wife was a champ, listening to affirmation prayers, praying and just being hyper-focused. Eventually the moment came, she pushed, and baby came out.

The midwife assistant gave the baby to Elena, they were both so excited: “It’s a girl, it’s a girl!” Myself, I was in shock. In fact, you can see my face in the video: It was a face of horror. The midwife filming dropped the phone and said, “Give me the baby!” She took her from Elena.

Jacinta’s body was grey, lifeless, her limbs moving like a doll, she was covered in slime. Immediately the two ladies went to work, and my wife started praying loudly, asking God for help. My father-in-law had taken the older three boys to Mass, my mother-in-law stayed with the four little ones downstairs. I ran down the stairs and told her in Spanish “Ninnette, get the kids out of the house! Go next door, take them in the car, go anywhere, just go!”

All I could think of was an ambulance and a dead baby sibling’s body being taken out in front of them. I ran back upstairs, and Elena said, “Holy water, give me the Holy Water!” I did, and she baptised her. The midwives were amazing, working hard to revive her. Elena was praying Memorares out loud, asking Our Lord and Our Lady to intervene. She asked me to get more Holy Water, and in true Cuban-American male fashion, I poured the whole gallon over her head, which caused her to flinch. And still the ladies were working on her, one calling out that she got a heartbeat, and counting — 110, 120, 130 — she was coming back little by little.

I am a revert. I was away from the faith for over a decade and married in my mid-30s. I have seen quite a bit of traumatic things in my life, but I have never felt such excruciating pain and impotence as I did when I thought my baby was dying. I was begging God to take

THE ROLE OF FATHER 5 me instead. I literally got on top of my bed and took our Crucifix down, got on my knees and prayed. I squeezed it so hard I almost broke it. “Lord please, not this cross, Lord, please!”

And then the most extraordinary supernatural experience of my life happened. I heard the Holy Spirit tell me to call her by name. We did not know the sex of the baby and had been thinking about a few girl names — Gemma, Teresa, Jacinta. I heard the Holy Spirit tell me, “Say her name,” but I was confused and in shock.

Again, I heard, “Say her name.” And then, after a few seconds, like thunder, I heard, “SAY … HER …

NAME!!” At that moment, I said in a loud, stern voice: “JACINTA!” Immediately, she gave her first cry! And I said her name the same way twice, and each time, she cried! Eventually she stabilized, and little by little turned bright pink. Then, she started breastfeeding perfectly and did so all night. Once things settled over the next couple of days, and we spoke to the midwives about the birth, we found out that this spiritual car crash was all of seven minutes.

Everything happens for the good of our souls, and I will say that I have three specific takeaways from this experience.

Number one: Life is fragile. Yes, we hear this all the time, especially in times of COVID, but we don’t believe it or simply ignore it. We live as if we are immortal, we eat and drink as if tomorrow will never come, don’t exercise, follow doctor’s orders, drive with caution, or get up from the couch. Fragile doesn’t even begin to cut it. We are not guaranteed even our next seconds.

Secondly, the power of prayer, specifically, communal prayer. How many times did a parishioner, friend, colleague say to me — “We lit a votive candle for Elena and the baby,” “I went to adoration and heard our Blessed Mother say everything will be fine,” “We offered a Mass for Elena,” and countless of “Elena and the baby were in the intentions of our nightly rosary.”

Prayers work, ask and you shall receive. Communal prayers work even better, Where Two or Three are Gathered in My Name, I Am in Their Midst. I joked that the whole parish would be the godparents, as they were the reason she was here.

Lastly, for me, the greatest takeaway from this experience is that, not only is the spiritual battle true and real, but I am the spiritual leader of the house.

How many times we hear this as Catholic men, and say, “Yes, that’s right!” We nod to each other in testosterone agreement. Yet, we don’t truly believe it. It is mom who says, “time for the rosary”, or who after Mass

says, “stay for a few minutes and give thanks, you have Jesus in you,” or, “take it to Our Lord in adoration.”

This does not mean we are not good examples to our children. We are by practicing the sacraments, being good husbands, praying in front of our kids, etc. The reality is, though, we do not accept our true leadership position, and sometimes we even joke about it.

I had a priest, Fr. Benjamin, tell me this all the time, especially in confession. “Pablo, remember you are the spiritual leader of your house.” We just do not believe it because we do not understand the power of spiritual leadership, the power of taking charge in the supernatural realm. It is the difference between a soldier and a general. They are both courageous fighters, but the latter leads. I may not have consecrated hands nor can I administer the sacraments, but I can defend my family from the evil one.

The day after her birth, when we talked to our pastor, Fr. Jason Christian, about the experience, he made an interesting point in that the devil is trying to extinguish these perfect lights of God, as he did with Jacinta, these perfect little babies that make it to birth. When I mentioned that I called out “JACINTA!!” not in anger but sternly, he said, “A father reclaiming his daughter from the devil.” Here, for the first time, I understood that not only is the spiritual battle real, but the only way we are going to win it is if us fathers accept the power that Catholic fatherhood bestows upon us. As Jesus, the perfect priest, calls many in the gospels by name — Martha, Zacchaeus, Mary, and even Lazarus — as the spiritual leader of my house, I have the power to reclaim my child. By name.

Over 10,000 Uk Women Hospitalised After Abortion Pills In 2020 Society for the Protection of Unborn Children The “devastating” truth about DIY home abortion has been revealed after freedom of information requests found that over 10,000 women required hospital treatment in England in 2020 after suffering serious complications.

An investigation, which included 85 freedom of information requests submitted to National Health Service (NHS) trusts, has shown that 1 in 17 women who used pills-by-post abortion services in 2020 suffered from side effects so severe that they required hospital treatment.

The investigation found that 5.9% of women required treatment because of incomplete abortions, with women retaining parts of their aborted babies.

3% of women required surgical evacuation of the remains of an unborn child after abortion pill failure. 2.3% of women were treated for haemorrhages.

The complication rate mirrored similar studies and reports, with the investigation concluding that: “We can say that complications arising from the failure of the medical abortion treatment are common and should be planned for.”

In total, from the start of April 2020 to the end of September 2021, 180,182 women in England had abortions at home using abortion pills, misoprostol and mifepristone, or taking at least one pill, misoprostol, at home after taking mifepristone at a clinic.

Since early 2020, SPUC has been reporting on the lonely and tragic reality faced by women undergoing an abortion at home without medical supervision, including a woman named Sophie, who, after such an abortion, reported that “there were big chunks coming out of me.”

“I would break down sobbing in the shower because chunks were

coming out of me – it was absolutely horrifying…. I don’t want anyone to suffer like I did.”

Kevin Duffy’s detailed investigation has exposed the disgraceful lack of care and professionalism, which underlies the abortion industry and its advocates, towards mothers undergoing a physically and mentally traumatic procedure – which also ultimately leads to the death of an unborn child. Once again, SPUC calls on the Government to cease, with immediate effect, dangerous DIY home abortion services, which place women at an unacceptable level of risk.”

The investigation, led by Percuity LTD and headed by consultant Kevin Duffy, also found that abortion providers and the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) did not report abortion pill failure as a complication, despite such failures leading to hospital treatment – meaning that less than 1-in-5 complications were reported.

Kevin Duffy said: “This is the disturbing truth of abortion care during the pandemic that has not been reported to the government by providers…”

“It demonstrates clearly what needs to change and why the government must not make DIY home abortion telemedicine permanent. The time to end it is now well overdue.

Kevin Duffy, a former Marie Stopes International employee and prolife convert, has spoken with SPUC previously about the unscrupulous and dishonest methods of the abortion industry.

DIY home abortion was introduced in response to lockdown at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. SPUC has campaigned tirelessly against the measure.

A Saint Who Fought The Freemasons Has The Battle Plan Against Today’s Dictatorship John-Henry Westen I’m going to share with you the largely unknown strategy to fight this Communist dictatorship of the whole world. This war plan identifies and targets the weakest links in the chain which allow for exploitation.

It is the strategy that St. Maximilian Kolbe saw would lead to the defeat of these same forces when he witnessed their first victory march in 1917. The tactics that I’m about to lay out here make sense, are doable and are assured to lead to victory.

In 1917 — around the time of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, and on the eve of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia — Br. Maximilian Kolbe was in Rome as a theology student, at the famous Gregorian University.

Now, 1917 marked the 200th anniversary of Freemasonry, and the masons were out in force in Rome, to celebrate. Their presence in the Eternal City was public, and flagrant. Banners, posters and leaflets were everywhere.

in his notebooks — blasphemous processions of masons to the Vatican, with the masons singing songs in honour of Satan.

Some of their banners carried the inscription: “Satan will rule in the Vatican and the Pope will be his slave.”

Let’s hear the account of Br. Maximilian himself: “… Freemasonry in Rome appeared more and more in public and unfurled in plain view of the Vatican windows their banners, depicting St. Michael the Archangel trampled and defeated by Lucifer, and distributed leaflets reviling the Holy Father.”

So much for a secret society!

And so much for a non-religious organisation of free-thinkers. It was as if these enemies of the Church of Christ sensed that they were on the cusp of a great victory, and allowed the mask to slip.

And in a sense, they have indeed achieved a great victory. We have just marked the anniversary of the First World War, where the flower of Europe’s youth were sent to kill each other in the battle fields, and the world has still not really recovered from the social effects of this.

At the same time, as I already mentioned, the Russian Revolutionaries overthrew the Christian Tsar, murdered all of his family (even the children), and installed an anti-God, anti-human Communist regime guilty of the deaths of millions.

The Catholic religion and the name of Jesus Christ was progressively removed from social life and the public square as it is today, to the point that many of us now have to beg our overlords for toleration and exemptions to even continue existing.

And what can we say of those words recorded by Br. Maximilian

Kolbe at the time, “Satan will rule in the Vatican and the Pope will be his slave”?

“This mortal hatred of the Church, of Christ and of his Vicar,” said Maximilian Kolbe, “proceeds from the principle of Freemasonry: the destruction of all religion, but especially the Catholic religion. All over the world the scattered cells of this Mafia strive in the most varied ways, more or less visibly, to reach the same goal. In doing so, it makes use of a whole horde of associations with various names and purposes, which under its influence still spread religious indifference and weaken morality.”

The ideals of freemasonry — the ideals of the French Revolution — of secularised liberty, equality and fraternity, detached from God: These are now the very air that we breathe in our societies.

At least, they were until very recently — they have been around

long enough to demoralise the onceChristian nations, and make us all worldly and complacent. But now, it seems that they have achieved their purpose, and the mirage of these noble-sounding ideals is collapsing into totalitarianism and revolution.

In fact, even in the 19th century, we were receiving divine warnings of what was coming. In apparitions approved as credible by the Church, our Lord appeared to the Carmelite nun Sr. Marie of St. Peter in 1843, and warned her that he was about to punish the world for all of the public, universal blasphemy, particularly against the name of God, against his Catholic Church, and the desecration of Sundays.

All of these things have only got worse.

He revealed to Sr. Marie that God was going to punish mankind for these crimes through “the malice of

ST MAXIMILIAN KOLBE 9 revolutionary men” and particularly by means of Communism. We don’t even need to mention the errors of Russia and Fatima here.

Perhaps all of this sounded quaint ten years ago, or as if it was referring to the 20th century. Today, at the end of 2021, it seems horribly up to date.

Br. Maximilian’s Response So what shall we do? What can we do? What did Br. Maximilian Kolbe do, seeing this march of neartriumph in the holy city of Rome?

Well, seeing these celebrations and process in Rome, he wrote: Is it possible that our enemies must carry on their work to the point of taking over, and that we remain idle, or, at the most, just pray without taking any action: Do we not have weapons more powerful than theirs — the protection of Heaven

and of the Immaculate Virgin? The Immaculate and undefeated Queen who fights off every heresy will not give the field over to the enemy that is raising his head again; if she finds servants who are faithful and docile to her orders, she will win new victories greater than we would imagine.

“The idea occurred to me,” he wrote, “to found an association to fight against Freemasonry and the other servants of Lucifer.”

What was this association, what is its essence? There are various facets to this organisation, some of them active and others more spiritual — but at its heart is total consecration to the Immaculate Virgin, and prayer for the freemasons.

But if the enemy be hungry, give him to eat; if he thirst, give him to drink.” (Romans 12) So should we be pacifists and wait for this Revolution to destroy us?

this, “thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head. Be not overcome by evil: but overcome evil by good.”

Sr. Marie of St Peter saw it in the same way. Speaking of the prayers of reparation to the Holy Face which our Lord revealed to her, she wrote: I proceed to enter the battlefield, fortified with the Cross and the other instruments of Our Lord’s torture as my weapons of war, levelling their infinite conquering power against the military entrenchments of the enemy, in the way He taught me.

And dear Br. Maximilian Kolbe has the same idea: The enemies of God are conquered and destroyed, not through violence, but through grace, and by being converted. They are changed into fellow servants and children of God, through the grace of Christ, and the power of the Immaculate Virgin, who crushes the serpent’s head and destroys all heresies and error.

Their success is not guaranteed Here is the reality of things. We are in the midst of a global revolution progressing apace, with apparently little standing in its way. Many attribute this to the dark powers of hell, and are sure that those imposing this

But even if this is true — and it certainly looks like it, for all sorts of reasons — the people actually imposing it are human beings — flesh and blood — like you and me.

A revolution certainly only needs a small number of very dedicated men — and perhaps we could concede that those men are almost irredeemable (although nothing is impossible to God).

But the imposition of this revolution also requires a larger number of men who are less dedicated. These people need to be kept in line by their wicked masters, whether by threats or promises. But they are “moving parts,” and they have families, friends and memories of how life was.

It is just not possible for the forces of evil to have complete assurance that these men, whom they do not “own” like they might own others, will continue to co-operate in this insane, ugly, anti-human, and antiChrist revolution.

Demons don’t change their minds.

Humans do. Humans have a breaking point, at which they say: “Enough.” And with the power of grace, obtained through our prayer and action, they will.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. As more and more people suffer from the effects of these vaccines, these lockdowns, this emerging apartheid — as more and more people realise that they are always just one booster away from being counted as unclean and unvaccinated — as the families of the enforcers begin to suffer and become divided themselves, as they find themselves arresting, fining, imprisoning, injecting, or

Catholic Voice even killing other people just like them — that breaking point comes closer and closer.

Can we really say that the powers of evil are in control of these things?

No, we cannot. Their success is not guaranteed.

And indeed we do not even need to despair of the most villainous characters in this terrible play. Who would have thought that the brutal Saul of Tarsus would become St. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles?

God may do stranger things yet.

Each breath they take, each beat of their hearts, these things are only possible because Almighty God allows them and sustains these wicked men in being. They think that they are so powerful, but they only continue to exist for the greater glory of God, and because he wills it. They too are humans: hardened to grace, definitely — but let’s just say their immunity to grace is about as safe and effective as their socalled vaccines.

Prayer So we must PRAY. We are coming to the end of a 54-day 15-decade Rosary Novena, and while we have surely received many graces, our prayer must continue. We must continue to pray our Rosaries for the end of this tyranny and the triumph of the Immaculate Heart. “Give me my weapon!” said Padre Pio. We have seen that our Lord wants us to make reparation for the blasphemies offered to him, for which this communist tyranny is a punishment. Our Lord told Sr. Marie that reparation to the Holy Face would defeat the communists and revolution: Let us take up this spirit.

Let us pray with Br. Maximilian for those who do not have recourse to

ST MAXIMILIAN KOLBE 11 our Lady. He said, “especially the freemasons,” and we can add to that the wicked architects of this revolution.

And we must pray also that Satan does not rule in the Vatican, and that we have a Pope who will not be his slave.

I want to end with the words of, by then a priest, Fr. Maximilian Kolbe — who gives us the authentic image of a Knight of the Immaculate.

He does not narrowly confine his heart to himself, nor to his family, to his close relations, friends, and countrymen, but he takes the whole world into it, each and every person, because all without exception have been redeemed with the Blood of Jesus Christ, all of them are our brethren. He wishes all true happiness, enlightenment through the light of faith, cleansing from sins, and a heart burning with love for God, an unbounded love.

The happiness of all mankind in God through the Immaculata — that is his dream.

There are all sorts of actions that we can take to protect our families, our children, our nations and the Church in these dark times — but without Christ, we can do nothing.

We must start with him, making reparation for the blasphemies of mankind, and praying that he convert the hearts of the wicked men who have allowed themselves to be the slaves of Satan.

In the end, Our Lady’s immaculate heart will triumph, and she will crush the head of the serpent and all those who make up his antiChurch. They have already lost, and we have already won. The supreme act of love — and what may help us the most — is to save these wicked men from their fates by our prayers.

The Feast Of The Holy Innocents John Lacken As we approach the end of another year let us pray earnestly for our bishops. Let us pray for an awakening in their hearts, that they will return to boldly proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to defending the rights of God and the duties of man to worship Almighty God and to love our neighbour as ourselves.

regardless of how remote that cooperation might be, then I will still choose to refuse the vaccine.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

To put this in its correct context, the year 2020 saw the highest number of abortions on record in England and Wales. The murders of 210,860 innocent human beings in their mothers’ wombs were recorded for that year.

I have been struggling to write my end of year article. Contrary to what some might believe, I do not like to be constantly pointing out the failings of our bishops. As I grow older, I turn sixty next March, I am more and more conscious of my own sinfulness, my own failings, and of the fact that I still have not reached the level of sanctity that God calls me to. At times is seems hypocritical to write about the failings of others and yet, I also realise, that one cannot wait until one reaches perfection in order to challenge others and to call others to personal holiness.

What prompted my current line of thought was hearing that the Irish bishops, at their Winter quarterly meeting, once again urged Catholics to remotely co-operate with abortion by taking the abortion tainted vaccines. They, and other ‘pro-life’ Catholics, have gone to great lengths to justify this remote material co-operation with a grave evil.

For me the matter is quite simple.

The currently available Covid vaccines all have a direct connection with abortion and, as the Irish bishops have admitted, taking these vaccines involves cooperation with the grave evil of abortion. If the choice before me is to die from covid-19 and the only way to avoid it is to co-operate with abortion,

I say this, all too conscious of my own sinfulness and of my own failings, because it is necessary to say it. It is necessary because our bishops are encouraging people to cooperate with the evil of abortion and this fills me with great sadness.

In Scotland, a further 13,815 innocent human beings were wilfully murdered in 2020. In Ireland, 6,577 murders of innocent human beings were recorded for the year 2020.

That means that in the year 2020, the official figures for the murder of innocents in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland came to 231,252. Just short of a quarter of a million innocent human beings murdered in their mothers’ wombs.

One of the saddest things about this is that, for most people, this is no longer shocking. Another thing that causes me deep sadness is that in the year 2021, the Irish bishops did not mention these murders once, at their quarterly meetings. They mentioned climate change, they mentioned the synodal pathway, they encouraged the abortion tainted vaccines, they mentioned housing and homelessness, they mentioned the humanitarian crisis in East Africa, but for the 231,252 murdered innocent human beings, there was silence.

Our bishops pass over in silence, what is probably the greatest crisis in the history of mankind, the murder of millions of innocent human beings in their mothers’ wombs.

The bishops encourage us to take an abortion tainted vaccine and to cooperate with a global campaign for ‘Healthy Planet, Healthy

People’, and yet they remain silent on the slaughter of innocents. We will never have a healthy planet or a healthy people until we stop this slaughter of innocents.

The Irish bishops do not have a plan to tackle these murders and to bring them to an end. They can spend a whole month celebrating the ‘Season of Creation’ and yet they seemingly ignore the 231,252 innocent human beings, created in the image and likeness of God, who were murdered in 2020 alone.

One archbishop wrote a pastoral letter titled ‘The Cry of the Earth, the Cry of the Poor’. In promoting this letter he stated: “Our lifestyles, and the economies which support them are contributing significantly to climate change, and to the crisis it is causing: the many wildfires raging in these days, the melting of the polar caps, the rise of sea levels, the loss of biodiversity, and the depletion of the soil on which life depends. The future of life on this earth, which God created and which “he saw was good” (Genesis 1:21, 25), hangs in the balance. Humans are unequivocally driving global warming. It is beyond doubt that climate change is being caused by what we have done — and continue to do — in upsetting nature’s equilibrium and balance.”

Let us not dwell for a moment on whether what the bishop says is true, climate change is far from a settled scientific matter, but let us ask, ‘What about the cry of the 231,252 innocent human beings who were murdered in these islands in 2020? Do they not deserve even a mention at the Irish bishops’ quarterly meetings?

What about the sex education programmes in the Catholic schools that drive the sexual promiscuity which in turn drives the abortion industry? I am sad to be able to say once again, that, to date, not one Irish bishop has

publicly condemned the promotion of the false and dangerous LGBT ideology in Catholic schools. Not one of them.

How is it that 231,252 murders can take place in a given year and not be mentioned at the Irish bishops’ quarterly meetings?

We have become used to abortion.

Abortion is now accepted as an inevitable reality which is tolerated because speaking about abortion makes people uncomfortable and it goes against government policy.

Once abortion is tolerated, it is then a small step to accept the products of abortion; the vaccines, the medicines; the cosmetics; that use the cells from these murdered children in their research, development, production and testing.

Let me refer once again to a passage from the article we have published by Fr Ambrose Astor.

Fr Ambrose writes under this pseudonym because he would most likely be persecuted and prevented from administering the sacraments to the faithful under his care, if his identity were publicly known.

Another indication of the times we are living in.

What this medical paper from 2015 clearly highlights, is that the Eugenics movement is alive and well and has deep connections to the abortion and pharmaceutical industries.

It may seem to be a bit macabre to be speaking of such things during the Christmas season. However, on December 26th, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St Stephen, the first martyr for the Catholic Church. Then, just two days later on December 28th, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of the Holy Innocents. These male children, two years and under, were slaughtered by Herod in an effort to kill the Christ child.

When Christ is before Pilate and is asked if He is a King, he replies: “For this was I born, and for this came I into the world; that I should give testimony to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, hears my voice.”

(John 18:37) Another truth that many Catholics are not fully aware of is that the Catholic Church has constantly taught that those infants who die without baptism do not enter into the beatific vision. Often such teaching produces an emotional response. But if we pondered this teaching deeply and if we fully realised that the deprivation of the beatific vision is a far greater loss than life itself, it might spur us on in the battle against the murder of innocent human beings by abortion so that they can be born and given the gift of baptism.

The Catholic Church has always taught that infants who die without baptism are denied heaven. It has never taught otherwise and this teaching is included in the Council of Trent, the Second Council of Lyons, and the Bull “Lætentur Caeli” of Pope Eugene IV to name just a few. It was included in the profession of the faith of Pope Gregory XIII and in that of Pope Urban VIII and Benedict XIV. The Catholic Church still teaches that all who die without baptism either of water, blood or desire are excluded from the beatific vision.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church re-affirms this position when she states - “1257 - The Lord himself affirms that Baptism is necessary for salvation. He also commands his disciples to proclaim the Gospel to all nations and to baptise them. Baptism is necessary for salvation for those to whom the Gospel has been proclaimed and who have had the possibility of asking for this sacrament. The Church does not know of any means other than Baptism that assures entry into eternal beatitude.”

It is speculation to say there is hope that the unbaptised can somehow attain the beatific vision contrary to the constant teaching of the Catholic Church and contrary to Our Lord’s own words in John 3:5. Catholics are not obliged to hold this position and no Council or development of doctrine can contradict what the Church has always held as true.

The position that unbaptised infants do not attain the beatific vision is not speculation in that sense, rather, it is a theological conclusion based on two dogmas of the Catholic Church: the state of grace is necessary for Heaven; the only way to give the state of grace to infants is baptism. That the unbaptised cannot attain the beatific vision is what is known in theological terms as ‘doctrina certa’. It is not defined dogma, but it is certain in its conclusions, shared by the universal Church for centuries.

There are those who say that the constant position of the Church that the unbaptised cannot attain the beatific vision, turns the gift of the sacraments intended for humanity into a limitation on God’s mercy.

This is a very presumptuous statement.

Of course, God is not limited by His sacraments, but we cannot say that God is not limited by His Word.

God cannot contradict Himself and it is God Who has said, “Amen, amen I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5) The presumption in the above statement is, that what is being said is, ‘if God does not allow the unbaptised infants to attain the beatific vision, then God is both unjust and unmerciful.’

We must be very careful of presenting ourselves as being more merciful than God. Such statements are similar to St Peter’s rash statement when Christ revealed that he was going to be put to death. “And Peter taking him, began to rebuke him, saying: Lord, be it far from thee, this shall not be unto thee.” (Matthew 16:22) Christ rebuked St Peter telling him, “thou savours not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.” (Matthew 16:23)

There are those who seem to believe that God cannot, in his justice and mercy, keep the unbaptised from attaining the beatific vision?

This position was condemned by Pope Pius XII in his encyclical ‘Humani Generis’ “Others destroy the gratuity of the supernatural order, since God, they say, cannot create intellectual beings without ordering and calling them to the beatific vision.” (HG 26) Speaking these truths can cause one to lose friends. For me, whilst I understand the emotional difficulties of those who have lost children who were not baptised, the matter is quite simple.

I trust completely in God, both in His justice, which terrifies me on account of my many sins, and in His mercy, which allows me to hope that I will be able to make amends for my life.

No matter what happens to those children who were not baptised,

I know that God is both just and merciful and He will deal with them according to these attributes of His. I do not seek to go beyond revelation, because God, being both just and merciful, must have His reasons for not revealing these things to us, and we must not presume that we somehow have a right to know and to go beyond what has been revealed.

Their voices are joined by the millions of murdered innocents who have gone before them. They are joined by the voices of those little ones currently living in their mother’s wombs on whom the sentence of death has been passed by the Irish government.

Let us pray that they will fight to restore the rights of Catholic children to receive a Catholic education and for the rights of Catholic parents to have the state assist them in providing this Catholic education for their children.

Let us pray that our bishops will prioritise the Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality over and above climate change and that they will fight to restore the dignity of

Finally let us pray that our bishops will courageously stand against our government and will oppose them in every way possible when they promote legislation which is contrary to Catholic Church teaching. The time for appeasement is long past.

Let us pray that our bishops will not shirk their duties in this regard and let us continue to keep fighting for these least in the Kingdom of God that they may have the opportunity to live life to the full. May God bless you.

“Go to Joseph!”: Saintly Wisdom About St. Joseph’s Power as a Spiritual Father

With all the rampant evil that’s seemingly accepted and celebrated in the world today, it’s easy to be tempted to think things are dismal.

However, that’s only possible if we forget that Jesus is in control. He’s always in control.

So much so, that He has willed this to be the Year of St. Joseph!

Think about that for a second.

Jesus, in His goodness, mercy, and love for us, gave us St. Joseph – a defender and provider who helps us forge ahead. All we have to do is “Go to Joseph.” (Gen. 41:55).

In a response to God’s goodness, I’ve listed five nuggets of saintly wisdom about the power of our spiritual father, St. Joseph.

1) “It is true that the other saints enjoy great power in heaven, but they ask as servants, and do not command as masters. Saint Joseph, to whose authority Jesus was subject on earth, obtains what he desires from his kingly foster Son in heaven.” – St. Thomas Aquinas We all have loads of favourite saints, but every single one of them is a servant. Save Our Lady Herself, St. Joseph is the only one with the authority to command His creator!

O Jesus, it is for the love of Thee, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and for the conversion of poor sinners [that I do this]. Amen.

Will The Supreme Court Protect Unborn Children At Last?

The American commentator Dinish d’Souza writes in the Epoch Times: “The Supreme Court’s decision in the Mississippi abortion case is likely to be one of the landmark cases of the 21st century. Many fascinating things came up during the arguments before the court, but here’s one thing that didn’t come up: the horror of abortion itself.

The horror of abortion isn’t merely that a woman kills a child, but that a woman kills her own child.”

One of the great glories of today’s Church is that, despite the considerable pressure from the Communist Left to look the other way as mothers butcher their own babies with the assistance of doctors who defy the Hippocratic Oath and judges who defy the Constitution, she continues to stand steadfast in defence of the unseen, unheard innocents in the womb.

The Biden administration is in essence Communist. Its representative before the Court in the case to decide whether the State of Mississippi may reduce the term for legal abortion from 24 to 15 weeks was Elizabeth Prelogar, the Solicitor General.

She did not attempt to argue in favour of abortion directly, for many of the Justices are known to oppose it. Instead, she framed her case against the proposed Mississippi law on the basis of the ancient ‘stare decisis’ principle of English law: namely, that once a court has set a precedent neither that court nor any lower court may reverse it.

In 1973, in Roe v. Wade, the then Communist-dominated Supreme Court flagrantly disregarded Article 1(1) of the United States Constitution, which says: “All legislative power herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”

Congress had made no law permitting baby-butchering. The Supreme Court, by its decision in Roe v. Wade, effectively made new law, which it had no power to do. Accordingly, Ms Prelogar’s argument amounted to a statement that, since in 1973 the Supreme Court had decided to break the law by ignoring the Constitutions first principle and had got away with it, it should continue to get away with it.

Justice Clarence Thomas asked where the right to butcher one’s baby was to be found in the Constitution. Hint: It is not there.

Nor is it in any amendment to the Constitution.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh answered the ‘stare decisis’ argument by demonstrating that on many occasions the Supreme Court has overturned precedents.

For instance, Baker v. Carr created the basis for one man, one vote; Miranda v. Arizona obliged the police to inform suspects charged with offences of their legal rights; and Brown v. Board of Education ended legal segregation in public schools, overturning the precedent in Plessy v. Ferguson that had stood for more than half a century.

Justice Kavanaugh asked: If the Supreme Court was right to overthrow the precedent in Plessy, why should it not overthrow the precedent in Roe? In response, Ms. Prelogar argued that precedents may only be reversed if the court discovers new information that was not available when the original case was heard.

However, in Brown the court had no new information that had not been available half a century before.

The court simply decided that segregation was morally wrong. It was contrary to human dignity as well as to the notion of equality before the law.

Besides, there is new information on abortion available to today’s Supreme Court that was not available half a century ago. Thanks to modern medicine, it is now far clearer than it was in 1973 that the unborn child is a distinct human being with its own heartbeat and its own DNA, which is a meiosis of the two parents’ DNA. In Roe, the Court wondered whether an unborn child was a child. Now, there is no doubt that an unborn child is a child – a separate human life which, being acutely vulnerable, is worthy of especial protection.

Furthermore, babies born prematurely have a much greater chance of survival now than in 1973. And that brings the argument directly back to the case brought by Mississippi. Since babies can now survive if born after 15 weeks, the State argues that they should not be butchered.

The Supreme Court, therefore, may decide that, rather than overthrowing Roe v. Wade altogether, it should consider only the narrow issue before it.

However, Mr D’Souza, who was in the Supreme Court to hear the arguments, drew the following conclusion from what he saw and heard: “A clear majority of the justices have had enough. They’re ready to uphold the Mississippi law that would allow states to restrict abortions after 15 weeks. They might even be ready – I sure hope they are – to chop off the head of the snake. It’s time to end Roe v.

Wade.”

Amen to all that. And the Supreme Court could very easily end Roe v.

Wade by saying that the question whether and on what terms babybutchering should be permitted is not one for the Supreme Court but should be returned to the individual States.

But should the Catholic Church be doing more than merely speaking out against the crime against humanity that is baby-butchering?

One thing that the Bishops of the United States can and should do – and at once – is to make it publicly very clear that any woman concerned that unless she butchered her child she might not be able to afford to maintain that child can call at any building marked with the Sign of the Cross and seek the advice of a priest, who will make arrangements for the child to be given to good and loving foster parents.

Such an announcement – which merely confirms what is already the Church’s policy – would remove from the table the notion that abortion should be permitted because otherwise the child might be unloved or unwanted.

To the Church, every child is a wanted child, and there are many Catholic parents who would be only too happy to save a child’s life

by taking that child into their home and providing the same loving upbringing as they give to their own children.

Once it becomes clear to the Justices that the only remaining argument in favour of abortion is that the mother might otherwise be mildly and transiently inconvenienced by having to go through a pregnancy, they will be left with no rational or moral choice but to outlaw abortion altogether. Their judgment will be delivered some months hence. In the meantime, then, for that happy outcome let us pray.

Dear Lord, We ask your blessings for the New Year 2022 and we place the year 2022 under your dominion.

The Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy encourages us all when exchanging greetings, to implicitly and explicitly place the New Year under the Lord’s dominion, since to him belongs all time.

The hope for a peaceful year has profound biblical, Christological and incarnational origins. In the light of the newborn Prince of Peace, this day has also been designated “world day of peace.”

The first day of January marks the solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. In Lumen Gentium we are reminded that “at the message of the angel, the Virgin Mary received the Word of God in her heart and in her body, and gave Life to the world. Hence she is acknowledged and honoured as being truly the Mother of God and Mother of the Redeemer.”

This is an eminently Marian feast.

For us it is a source of grace and salvation as we hear in the Collect of the Mass that God bestowed on the human race the grace of eternal salvation through the fruitful virginity of Blessed Mary.

From the Nativity until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on 9th January we are immersed in the infancy of Jesus. Now we honour Jesus as the Lord and Saviour who

has just been born into a human family among real flesh and blood people, Mary and Joseph. This feast is of extra significance in the present time when the family and marriage are being threatened by secular ideology. In Mass we ask that God the Father will grant us the grace to imitate the shining example of the Holy Family of Nazareth.

The readings from scripture reflect the family as the domestic church where God reveals how we are to relate to one another and ultimately to him.

The 6th of January brings the solemnity of the Epiphany. This is one of only six holy days of obligation and requires our presence at Mass. “The obligation of assisting at Mass is satisfied wherever Mass is celebrated in a Catholic rite, either on a holy day itself or on the evening of the previous day.” (Can. 1248) The significance of this feast can be overlooked if it is only understood as marking the end of Christmastide.

The three wise men who visit and

pay homage to the Child Jesus in Bethlehem are representing us, the non-Jews or the Gentiles.

Until now, God’s revelation was to the chosen people, the Jews, but now he has revealed himself in his divinity to the rest of the world. At Mass we listen to the Old Testament reading from Isaiah foretelling the coming of the Magi “bringing gold and incense, and singing the praise of the Lord.” The Catechism tells us that the Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of Israel, Son of God, and Saviour of the world.

“The Magi’s coming to Jerusalem in order to pay homage to the king of the Jews shows that they seek in Israel, in the messianic light of the star of David, the one who will be king of the nations.”

It is now that the Advent longing has been fulfilled. Here is the King who is come with great power and majesty. But this is more than the fulfilling of the Old Testament promise - this is the extension of

Christ’s kingship to all humanity.

His revelation as a child to the three kings of the Orient is a symbol of his revelation to the entire Gentile world.

All nations will fall prostrate before him. The theme of light is integral to this understanding: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” At Christmas this light was seen only by a few - Mary and Joseph and the shepherds who came to worship around the crib. Now at the Epiphany the Light shines forth to all nations and the prophecy is fulfilled.

Soon the Epiphany will be extended to show the beginning of the Lord’s public ministry as we hear of his Baptism in the Jordan and the changing of water into wine at the Marriage Feast of Cana.

However for these weeks we rest in his infancy and meditate on the significance of the young child who is Almighty God. May this contemplation lead us like the wise men, to return to our own country by a different way, carrying the light of Christ to those we meet on the journey.

Let us not forget that at the dawn of 2022 we are still within the

Christmas Octave and the infancy of Jesus is still in our minds. Mary, the mother of Jesus is the Mother of the Church and Pope Francis emphasises this in comparing the Church to the mother who gave us Jesus.

“No manifestation of Christ, even the most mystical, can ever be detached from the flesh and blood of the Church...without the Church our relationship with Christ would be at the mercy of our imagination, our interpretations, and our moods.”

O sacred and adorable Trinity, hear our prayers on behalf of our Holy Father the Pope, our Bishops, our clergy, and for all that are in authority over us.

Bless, we beseech Thee, during the coming year, the whole Catholic Church; convert heretics and unbelievers; soften the hearts of sinners so that they may return to Thy friendship; give prosperity to our country and peace among the nations of the world; pour down Thy blessings upon our friends, relatives, and acquaintances, and upon our enemies, if we have any; assist the poor and the sick; have pity on the souls of those whom this year has taken from us; and do Thou be merciful to those who during the coming year will be summoned before Thy judgment seat.

May all our actions be preceded

Prudence And Vaccines - Part 1 Fr Ambrose Astor

Prudence is the mother of all the other virtues. We all need it, but none more than priests, doctors and politicians, especially when it comes to moral questions linked to the COVID-19 ‘vaccines’.

ll important decisions in life should be guided by prudence.

With it we resolve on a course of action in accordance with our rational nature. Without it we can make some very big, even fatal, mistakes. This is true in questions concerning our state in life, our career, our family, and also our health. At the moment, there is a very serious question concerning whether or not to get vaccinated.

Q. Doesn’t prudence demand we do what our government says is the right thing?

A. The general narrative created by our governments, thanks to the allpowerful media, goes something like this: 1.) SARS-CoV-2 is a virus that causes a highly transmissible deadly disease known as COVID-19 which has created a state of pandemic throughout the world and already killed millions of people.

2.) Vaccination is the only way of preventing spread of the virus and keeping us all safe.

3.) If we care about saving lives, we have a moral obligation to receive experimental ‘vaccines’ which our governments assure us are safe and effective.

4.) Anyone who rejects or alters these premises is deemed to be dangerous to society, and is liable to prosecution.

Q. Is this narrative substantiated by the facts?

A. Article 1 in this series “Conscience and vaccines”1 explores the evidence disputing the three key points above which fuel the vaccination drive, namely the median global infection fatality

rate (IFR) of 0.05%2 and the lack of efficacy or safety of current ‘vaccines’.3 The fourth point however remains the most concerning aspect of the ‘pandemic’ with its censorship of debate, even that coming from the most highly qualified in the relevant science, and the swift silencing of any dissenting voices or opposition. This is evidenced by the constant ‘fact checking’ on web browsers/social media, the removal of medical journal articles4 and the character assassination and ‘cancelling’ of prominent medical voices5 who are critics of the COVID-19 vaccine narrative.

This unprecedented censorship has led thousands of doctors to urgently form global networks6 which call into question the ethics and the science behind the ‘vaccinations’7, and condemn pharmaceutical influence over politics, the medical profession and good health care.

They are also calling out the

suppression of highly safe and effective treatments in Western countries. These networks have proclaimed in unison that ‘these policies may actually constitute crimes against humanity’.8 The particular aspects of the gene therapy9 vaccines that are of concern for high level experts in the fields of virology, immunology and vaccine development are their ability to facilitate : 1.) the spread of disease by highly virulent escape mutant variants causing an increase of cases, and likely leading to ADE (Antibody Dependent Enhancement)10, demonstrated in every past animal study of coronavirus ‘vaccines’.11 2.) general immune suppression12 leading to an increase of autoimmune diseases and cancers13; 3.) an increase in vascular system disorders (heart attacks, strokes, clots) caused by the biologically active spike protein14 lodging in the lining of the blood vessels causing

micro-clots (endothelial damage15).

This is demonstrable with the sharp increase of myocarditis and pericarditis cases in young adults. In older adults, it may manifest as heart attacks, strokes, or even kidney and/or heart failure (caused by accumulation of spike proteins).16 4.) the weaponising of the virus for the realisation of plausible ulterior motives.17 The notion of ulterior motives shall be dealt with in a future article. For the moment, let’s limit ourselves to exploring prudence and its integral parts in relation to the medical aspects of a vaccination with an unknown potential.

Q. What is the virtue of prudence and its relevance to this situation?

Let’s have a look at them one by one. This will help us come to a prudential decision about vaccination.

A. Prudence is the cardinal virtue by which we discern which things are to be done and which are to be omitted. Three different but

1.) Take counsel and deliberate; 2.) Come to a decision; 3.) Act upon it.

When we know something needs to be done, prudence also helps us discern how and when to do it. In the deliberative stage, the virtue of prudence is helped by what we call its ‘integral parts’, which are good habits that allow the virtue to exercise its full potential. The integral parts of prudence are: Memory, Foresight, Caution, Circumspection, Understanding, Shrewdness, Docility, and Reason.

Memory (Memoria) brings to our mind the right things pertaining to

PRUDENCE & VACCINES 23 the action we have to perform and its circumstances. Experience of the past allows us to judge with sufficient probability what we need to do now, and consequently a good memory is a most powerful auxiliary to the virtue of prudence.

People with lots of experience tend to be more prudent, for they have seen and heard many things.

For medical treatment to be deemed prudential, it is necessary that it be tested over a long period of time to ensure its safety and efficacy.

This allows the memory to dig deep into that experience and make judgments that will help do the right thing. A practical exercise in memory would be to recall the infamous Thalidomide Scandal of the 1950s and early 1960s, familiar to medical professionals.

Thalidomide was a drug that was hastily rolled out following incomplete observations.

was deemed safe for all to take, including pregnant women, although there were no studies done on the latter, nor even any longterm data on humans. The drug was initially marketed in Germany under the trade name Contergan, and then allowed in 46 countries under many different trade names.

It would be five years and 10,000 affected babies later (half of whom died, and the other born severely disabled) that the link was finally made between birth defects and the ingestion of thalidomide. Finally, the drug was withdrawn from distribution.18 This grave error caused a global scandal that forced both government and medical bodies to change the ways drugs were tested, approved and marketed, and gave rise to many of the pharmacovigilance strategies in place to this day. The Yellow Card system (for adverse events) was set up in the UK and any drug that was marketed to pregnant women had to provide robust evidence of its safety during pregnancy. The FDA pharmacologist, Frances Oldham Kelsey, was awarded a Presidential award in the USA for blocking the sale of thalidomide in that country – she did so after hearing of a handful of cases of severe adverse events.

Seventy years later, on a far wider scale, following the reports

of 18,500 deaths in the US19, 13,000 deaths in the UK20 and 27 European union countries21 and with a combined 3 million adverse effects in the UK, EU and US, over a period of only 11 months – we still have the ‘emergency use’ and even mandating of gene therapy ‘vaccines’ marketed to prevent COVID-19 that are still part of an active clinical trial not due to end for another three years, with no demonstrable safety data on the general population, let alone on children and pregnant women.

It is worth noting that the above numbers are extremely conservative estimates, as it is well known in the field of pharmacovigilance that only 1-10% of adverse reactions (including deaths) are reported due to the tedious process involved for families and physicians.22 Furthermore, we have the active censoring and character assassination of many eminent professionals across all continents who are flagging the safety concerns and calling for the immediate cessation of the vaccine roll-out.

One such expert, Dr Tess Lawrie, founder of the BIRD (British Ivermectin Recommendation Development) group in the UK and a former consultant to the WHO, concludes in a letter to the UK Medicines board:

‘Urgent independent expert evaluation and discussion is required to assess whether the novel vaccines may be causing gene mutations among recipients, as suggested by the occurrence of usually extremely rare genetic disorders. The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) now has more than enough evidence on the Yellow Card system to declare the COVID-19 ‘vaccines’ unsafe for use in humans. Preparation should be made to scale up humanitarian efforts to assist those harmed by the COVID-19 ‘vaccines’ and to anticipate and ameliorate medium to longer term effects’.23 Foresight (Providentia) is the ability to visualise future outcomes of actions based upon past experience: one cannot be provident for the future unless one has learned from the past. We can thus see how foresight is linked with memory.

Anyone aware of the thalidomide scandal cannot fail to see the parallel dangers and risks – indeed in this case on a much larger scale – of the unbridled use of experimental drugs, particularly gene therapies. The knowledge of what happened then helps us chart a course that would avoid similar or even more serious calamities

31st December 2021 in the future. Unfortunately, the number of deaths and injuries already recorded proves that there is little foresight in those who are making the decisions for us. Even if the majority of people vaccinated do not have immediate adverse effects, we must ask the question of what possible and unknown outcomes we will be seeing in the future with the application of untested genetic technology on all age groups, including pregnant women and children during their neurologically and hormonally sensitive developmental years.

For example, when we consider females both young and old experiencing severe menstrual bleeding post vaccination24, it is of little wonder why scientists and doctors are warning against epigenetic reproductive effects that may not manifest immediately or in the first generation.25 In a legal challenge to the European Medicines Agency, Dr Michael Yeadon, former chief scientist of Pfizer, admonishes: ‘The mRNA vaccine triggers the body to produce antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, and spike proteins in turn contain syncytin-homologous proteins that are essential for the formation of placenta. If a woman’s immune system starts reacting against syncytin-1, then there is the possibility she could become infertile. This is an issue that none of the vaccine studies is looking at specifically. Mass vaccinating women of childbearing age against COVID-19 could potentially have the devastating consequence of causing mass infertility if the vaccine triggers an immune reaction against syncytin-1”.26 Furthermore, an understanding of epigenetics – the influence of external factors on the expression of our genes – is critical and currently lacking. The possibility that the injected mRNA (which has the instructions to create spike

Catholic Voice proteins) via an enzymatic process can penetrate the nucleus of the cells where the DNA is located and can ultimately insert itself into the DNA, cannot be definitively excluded.

There is already evidence that this very process, which researchers did not anticipate, is occurring with the spike protein.27 What this means, in simple language, if this insertion occurs to the egg and sperm, there is a real potential for these vaccines to alter the human genome, forever.

The Rich Tapestry Faith On New Years Day Monsignor Charles Pope

The feast day of January 1st is a very complex tapestry, both culturally and liturgically. Perhaps we can use the second reading by St. Paul to the Galatians as a way to weave through some of the many details. We can look at it in three parts.

The Chronology of our Celebration The text from St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians says, “When the fullness of time had come …”

Most people are going about today saying, “Happy New Year!” And rightfully so, for it is the beginning of a new year; but most people think of New Year’s Day in almost wholly secular terms. Sadly, it is best known as an occasion for loud parties and excessive drinking.

It is a mistake to view New Year’s Day simply as a secular holiday. In speaking of “the fullness of time,” St. Paul reminds us that all time and all ages belong to God. It is not simply 2022; it is 2022 Anno Domini (A.D.).

Even the most unbelieving of people in the Western world denote their place in time in relation to Jesus Christ. It is 2022 years since the birth of Christ. Every time we write the date on a cheque or at the top of a letter, every time we see it at the top of the newspaper or on our computer screen, that number, 2022, points back to Christ. He is the Lord of history. Jesus sets the date; He is the clock by which we measure. All time belongs to Him. Jesus says in the book of Revelation, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, The beginning and the end. He who is, and who was, and who is to come (Rev 22:13).

If it is true that 2022 references the birth of Christ, then why is Christmas Day not also New Year’s Day? The fact that it is not actually makes a lot of sense if we understand liturgical and spiritual sensibilities.

In the Church and stretching back into ancient Jewish times, it was customary to celebrate the high feasts of faith over the period of a week. In Christian tradition this came to be known as the “octave.” Although we think of a week as comprising seven days, consider that we celebrated Christmas this past Saturday and now this week we celebrate New Year’s Day on Saturday; Saturday to Saturday, inclusive, is eight days.

Saturday, January 1, 2022 is the eighth day of Christmas. In the Christian tradition, the octave is considered as one long “day” that lasts for eight days.

Therefore, January 1, 2022 completes Christmas day; it is fulfilled. Or, as St. Paul says, the “fullness of time” in terms of Christmas day has come.

The rest of the secular world has largely moved on already, barely thinking of Christmas anymore. As I walk in my neighbourhood, I see Christmas trees already set out at the curb waiting to be picked up by the recycling trucks. Yes, for many in our hurried world, Christmas is over. We in the Church, however, continue to celebrate the great Christmas feast and cycle. Having completed the octave, we move on to Epiphany week.

This New Year’s Day we contemplate the “fullness of time.” The passage of another year reminds us of the magnificent truth that to God all time — past, present, and future — is equally present. He holds all things

together in Himself. He is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever. Whenever He acts, He acts in our time, out of the fullness of time. This is a very deep mystery and we should ponder in silence the mystery that for God, all things are. He is not waiting for things to happen. For Him, everything is accomplished.

The Content of our Celebration St. Paul goes on to say, God sent forth his son born of a woman. This statement again reminds that we are still in the Christmas cycle.

While it is New Year’s Day, there is also a complex tapestry of religious meanings to this day as well. It is still Christmas day, the eighth day of the one long day that we call Christmas.

Historically, this is also the day of Christ’s circumcision. For a long period in Church history, today was the feast of “The Circumcision of the Lord.” I regret the loss of this feast, at least in terms of its title.

Today is the day when Joseph and Mary brought Christ to be circumcised. In this, Jesus as man and as God reverences the covenant He has made with His people. It is a beautiful truth that God seeks relationship with His people. In this covenantal act of the circumcision is the moving truth that Jesus is not ashamed to call us His brothers (Hebrews 2:11).

There is the first shedding of Jesus’ blood. It is also a sign of His love for us.

This feast day also celebrates the Most Holy Name of Jesus, for not only was a Jewish boy circumcised on the eighth day, but he was also given his name; all heard that name for the first time on that day.

The name Jesus means “God saves.”

Indeed, this Most Holy Name of Jesus, when used in reverence, has

saving power. We are baptised in His Holy Name along with that of the Father and the Holy Spirit, and all of our prayers conclude with His Holy Name. Scripture says this of His great and holy name: Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phillipians 2: 9-11).

Yet another meaning of today’s feast day is shown in its current, formal title: “The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.” This replaced the title of “The Feast of the Circumcision of the Lord” in 1970. However, it is the most ancient title for this feast day.

We note in the second reading that St. Paul says that God sent forth his Son, born of a woman. Jesus is

the eternal Son of the Father; He is God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God. Jesus is God, and because Mary gave birth to Him, she is the Mother of God because Jesus is not two different persons.

Mary did not just give birth to part of Jesus, she gave birth to Jesus.

Thus, the title “Mother of God” speaks to us as much about Jesus as it does about Mary. She has that title because of the Church’s insistence that Jesus cannot be divided up into two different people. We cannot say that Mary gave birth to one Jesus but not to “the other one.” Although He has two natures, human and divine, there is only one Jesus.

Thus, on this feast of Christmas, on this eighth day of Christmas, we are reminded and solemnly taught that Jesus is both human and divine. In taking a human nature to Himself from His mother Mary, He remains one person. God has sent forth his son, born of woman.

“Offer up everything within your power as a sacrifice to the Lord in an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended; and of supplication for the conversion of sinners. Thus invoke peace upon your country. I am her Guardian Angel; the Angel of Portugal. Above all, accept and bear with submission the sufferings that the Lord may send you.”

The Consolation of our Celebration St. Paul goes on to say, Born under the law to ransom those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons. As proof that you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son in our hearts crying out Abba, Father! So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and, if a son, also an heir through God. Note three things about this passage: Our Adoption We have already noted that on the eighth day Jesus is circumcised and enters into the Covenant, into the Law. In the Incarnation, He joins the human family; in the Covenant, He joins our family of faith. He will fulfil the old Covenant and inaugurate the new one. By this New Covenant, by baptism into Him, we become members of His Body and are thereby adopted as sons.

We become sons in the Son. When God the Father looks at His Son, loving Him, He is also looking at us and loving us, for we are in Christ Jesus, members of His Body through baptism. God is now our Father, not in an allegorical sense, but in a very real sense. We are in Jesus and therefore God really is our Father.

Our Acclamation St. Paul says that the proof of our sonship is the movement of the Holy Spirit in us that cries out Abba!

In Aramaic and Hebrew, Abba is the family term for father. It is not baby talk, like “Dada.” However, just as most adults call their father “Dad” or some other

endearment rather than the more formal “Father,” so Abba is used in a similar way. It would be quite a daring thing for us to call God “Dad” unless we were permitted to do so and instructed to do so by Christ.

St. Paul speaks of this word, Abba, as proof that we are sons. In so doing, he emphasises that it is not merely the saying of the word that he refers to. Even a parrot can be taught to say the word.

Rather, St. Paul is referring to what the word represents: an inner movement of the Holy Spirit wherein we experience a deep affection for God the Father. By our adoption, our baptism into Christ, by our reception of the Holy Spirit, we love the Father! We develop a deep affection for Him and dread offending Him. By this gift of the Spirit, God is our Father, whom we deeply love!

Our Advancement Notice that St. Paul then speaks of how we have moved from being slaves to being sons, heirs. In Jesus, we are not just any son; we are the only Son of the Father.

As Jesus has a kingdom from His Father, so do we as we too inherit it with Him. As sons in the Son, we are heirs with Jesus to the Kingdom! Jesus speaks of His disciples as reigning with Him one day: And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me (Lk 22:29). In Jesus, all Heaven will be ours and we will reign with Him forever. This is not our doing, not our glory; it is Christ’s doing and His glory in which we share.

Thus we have a very rich tapestry on this New Year’s Day, this feast of the Octave of Christmas, this Feast of the Circumcision of the Lord, this Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, this Feast of Mary, Mother of God. We are given this feast wherein the glory of Christ is held before us and we who are members of His Body are told of the gifts that we receive by His holy incarnation and His passion, death, and resurrection.

It’s not a bad way to start the new year: being reminded of God’s incredible love for us and of His rich blessings and promises.

The Feast Of The Most Holy Name Of Jesus Dom Prosper Gueranger

‘after eight days were accomplished, his name was Name of Jesus. JESUS is honey to the mouth, and music to the ear, and gladness to the heart. called Jesus’ (Luke 2:21) In the Old Covenant, the Name of God inspired fear and awe: nor was the honour of pronouncing it granted to all the children of Israel. We can understand this.

God had not yet come down from heaven to live on earth, and converse with men; he had not yet taken upon himself our poor nature, and become Man like ourselves; the sweet Name expressive of love and tenderness, could not be applied to him.

It is also Medicine. Is anyone among you sad? Let but Jesus come into his heart, and the mouth echo him, saying Jesus! and lo! the light of that Name disperses every cloud, and brings sunshine back again.

Every food of the soul is dry, that is not steeped in this unction; it is insipid, if it be not seasoned with this salt.

If thou write, I relish not thy writing, unless I read there the Name of Jesus. If thou teach me, or converse with me, I relish not thy words, unless I hear thee say the

‘Here is the electuary, my soul, hid in the casket of this Name Jesus .. believe me, it is wholesome, and good for every ailment thou canst possibly have. Ever have it with thee, in thy bosom and in thy hand; so that all thy affections and actions may be directed to JESUS.’

Have any of you committed sin? and is despair driving you into the snare of death? Invoke the Name of life, and life will come back to the soul. Was there ever a man, that, hearing this saving Name, could keep up that But, when the fullness of time had come — when the common fault of hardness of heart, or drowsiness of mystery of love was about to be revealed — then did sluggishness, or rancour of soul, or languor of sloth? heaven send down the Name of ‘ Jesus’ to our earth, as a pledge of the speedy coming of him who was to bear If anyone, perchance, felt that the fountain of his tears it. The archangel Gabriel said to Mary: Thou shalt call was dry, did it not gush forth more plentifully than his Name JESUS. ‘Jesus’ means Saviour. How sweet ever, and flow more sweetly than ever, as soon as he will this Name not be to poor lost man! It seems to invoked the Name of Jesus? If any of us were ever in link earth to heaven! No name is so amiable, none is so danger, and our heart beat with fear, did not this Name powerful. Every knee in heaven, on earth, and in hell, of power bring us confidence and courage the moment bows in adoration at hearing this Name! and yet, who we pronounced it? When we were tossed to and fro by can pronounce it, and not feel love spring up within his perplexing doubts, did not the evidence of what was heart? But we need such a saint as Bernard, to tell us of right burst on us as we called upon the Name of light? the power and sweetness of this blessed Name. He thus When we were discouraged, and well nigh crushed, by adversity, did not our heart take courage, when our speaks of it in one of his Sermons.’ tongue uttered the Name of help? All this is most true; all these miseries are the sicknesses and faintings of The Name of Jesus is Light, and Food, and Medicine. It for our soul, and the Name of Jesus is our Medicine. is Light, when it is preached to us; it is Food, when We think upon it; it is the Medicine that soothes our pains ‘But, let us see how all this comes to pass. Call upon when we invoke it. Let us say a word on each of these. me in the day of trouble, says the Lord; I will deliver Tell me, whence came there, into the whole world, so thee, and thou shalt glorify me. There is nothing which bright and sudden a light, if not from the preaching of so restrains the impulse of anger, calms the swelling of the Name of Jesus? For when I pronounce this Name, the Light, we take these words of Paul as truly addressed I bring before my mind the Man, who, by excellence, to ourselves: Heretofore, you were darkness; but now, is meek and humble of heart, benign, sober, chaste, light in the Lord. merciful, and filled with everything that is good and holy, nay, who is the very God Almighty — whose Nor is the Name of Jesus Light only; it is also Food. example heals me, and whose assistance strengthens Art thou not strengthened, as often as thou thinkest of me. I say all this, when I say Jesus. Here have I my this Name? What is there that so feeds the mind of him model, for he is Man; and my help, for he is God; the that meditates upon this Name? What is there that so one provides me with precious drugs, the other gives restores the wearied faculties, strengthens virtue, gives them efficacy; and from the two I make a potion such as vigour to good and holy habits, and fosters chastity? no physician knows how to make.

“To forestall this [the second world war], I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.

“If they heed My requests, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace. If not, she shall spread her errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecutions of the Church; the good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated; in the end, My Immaculate Heart shall triumph.

Prayer to The Little Flower Oh glorious St. Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and council mankind, I implore your miraculous intercession. So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul, our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a “prodigy of miracles; the greatest saint of modern times.”

Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention here) and to carry out your promise of “spending Heaven doing good upon earth - letting fall from Heaven a shower of Roses.” Henceforth, dear little flower, I will fulfil your plea “to be made known everywhere” and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you.
