Coronaviruses, Vaccines & Bioweapons between you and your conscience so let us not make any judgements and continue to have the debate in a charitable and civilised manner.

Anthony Murphy In this issue we return to the debate over the use of the vaccine with an article by John Lacken responding to the article written by Professor Roberto de Mattei. In this article John makes some good arguments which are difficult to refute, he also calls for the debate to be conducted with charity.

There are many people who do not want to take the vaccine for a variety of reasons and their freedom to make this decision must be respected. No one should be forced to take a vaccine. Likewise we should not criticise or correct those who for personal and sincere reasons have chosen to take the vaccine. It is a private matter and should remain so.

This is a difficult decision for many people and many do not want to get involved in the arguments about the vaccine - this is understandable and in the end this is a private decision

In the absence of any clear response from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith which clarifies the points made by both sides of this debate then all each of us can do is to read the information available, if you have a spiritual director speak to him, trust his judgement and be guided by your conscience.

In the meantime the various Pro Life groups should come together to organise a global petition and lobbying of pharmaceutical companies, governments etc. to produce ethically acceptable vaccines.

Meanwhile let us not forget where the Chinese virus originated from.

China expert, Steve Mosher, reports that the same murderous regime that has brought us forced abortion and sterilisation, forced organ harvesting, and genocide in real time also appears to be developing deadly bioweapons to release upon the world.

In an article published on LifeSiteNews, Steve writes that the Australian Strategic Policy Institute has just uncovered a Chinese book that proves that Chinese military scientists have been working towards the development of a “new era of genetic weapons.”

These weapons, the Chinese scientists promised, could be “artificially manipulated into an emerging human disease virus, then weaponized and unleashed.”

In the 2015 volume, called The Unnatural Origin of SARS and New Species of Man-Made Viruses as Genetic Bioweapons, the Chinese military scientists begin by suggesting that World War III would be fought with biological weapons.

And not just any bioweapons.

Coronaviruses, a number of which cause respiratory illnesses in people, were mentioned as a class of viruses that could be readily weaponised. Indeed, the Chinese scientists were even more explicit, pointing out in their paper that the coronavirus that causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, was an ideal candidate for a bioweapon.

The Chinese Virus – or COVID-19 as the World Health Organisation insists that we call it – is a type of SARS virus.

Now you understand why Peter Jennings, the executive director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), described the new document as the closest thing to a “smoking gun as we’ve got.”

News.com.au quoted Jennings as saying that “I think this is significant because it clearly shows that Chinese scientists were thinking about military application for different strains of the coronavirus and thinking about how it could be deployed. It begins to firm up the possibility that what we have here [in the China Virus] is the accidental release of a pathogen for military use.”

Jennings also believes that the China Virus’s origins as a bioweapon explain why China has blocked investigations. “If this was a case of transmission from a wet market it would be in China’s interest to co-operate,” Jennings pointed out.

“We’ve had the opposite of that.”

As former Deputy National Security Advisor (DNSA) Mathew Pottinger pointed out in a February interview. U.S. intelligence believed that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) had been “doing secret classified animal experiments in that same laboratory [Wuhan Institute of Virology]” as early as 2017. He added that there is “good reason to believe” that an outbreak of a “flu-like illness” had occurred among the scientists in the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in the fall of 2019, just before the first cases of a new type of pneumonia were being reported in Wuhan.

While the Wuhan lab poses as a “civilian institution,” Pottinger said, U.S. intelligence has determined that the lab has collaborated on publications and secret bioweapons projects with China’s military.

Pottinger also noted one final – and very telling – point: when the outbreak in Wuhan began it was the Chinese military, and not the Chinese CDC, that was called in to handle the situation.

This is exactly what you would expect to happen if the China Virus was a product of a military bioweapons program.

No one currently serving in the Biden administration has been willing to go quite this far. But even they have begun to backtrack from the bat soup story of late. Biden’s Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines, recently admitted that one of the two possible explanations for the origin of COVID-19 would involve an “escape” from a Chinese bio lab in Wuhan.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that, where the CCP is concerned, America should “distrust and verify.”

China’s official explanation is clearly a fabrication.

We may never know for certain whether the novel coronavirus was intended to be used as a bioweapon.

But we do know that the major Western print, broadcast, and social media are all doing their best to dismiss the very possibility as a paranoid fantasy.

At the end of the day, whether the novel coronavirus had already been tinkered with before it reached the streets of Wuhan is (almost) of secondary importance.

For the Communist leaders are clearly engaged in an effort to develop such a weapon as part and parcel of their strategy to become the dominant power on the planet.

FIRE IN THE SCRIPTURES Canon DE MARTIN I.C.K.S.P.

When we think of fire, do we think of something positive or negative? The fire of Hell or the fire that warms our living room?

Because fire can be either very good or very bad. For example, two fires were burning 30 km apart on Easter night in 433. High King Laoghaire lit a fire to honour the pagan gods (and therefore demons) for the Beltane.

At the same time, St Patrick lit the Paschal fire for the Resurrection of Christ. They seemed identical, yet there is a chasm between the two fires.

The Pentecost vestments, which we have just celebrated, are red to recall the fire of the Holy Spirit. God chose flames of fire to show His presence. These ‘tongues of fire’ represented the fiery language and energy with which the preachers of the Gospel would soon preach Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Fire was also a sign of God’s presence to Moses in the unconsummated burning bush; and later, when the pillar of fire protected Israel from the Egyptians and guided them through the night. Likewise at Mount Sinai, God came down in fire. (Exodus 19:18) God gave us fire from the beginning because it is useful.

It is indispensable for heating and for the cooking of food. It is also necessary to produce light, baking bricks, and melting and refining metals In addition it is used to purify objects, and in cases of illness, disease-ridden materials are destroyed by fire, especially clothing.

But its most noble use is undoubtedly for liturgical worship. In the Temple of Jerusalem fire was to burn perpetually. This permanence of fire was to signify the unceasing activity that had to be deployed in the service

of the Lord, who was always present in the Temple. Just as in our churches the lamp burns continuously before the Blessed Sacrament. Just as the smoke that rose to Heaven came from our sacrifices. Charcoal, perfumes, incense and sacrificial animals were offered to God; just as today at Mass, the smoke from the incense in the thurible raises our poor prayers to God. The prayers we use for the incense during the Holy Sacrifice say: « Be blessed + by Him in whose honour thou art burnt. », and «(...) bless + this incense and receive it in the odour of sweetness. » But fire does not always have a positive connotation.

Fire is destructive. In hot climates, a small fire that gets out of control is a huge devastation a few seconds later. Destruction of fields, woods, houses. Moreover, after we leave, at the end of the world, everything will be destroyed by fire (2 Peter 3:10). Even before, we

remember Sodom and Gomorrah, which was destroyed by fire and brimstone because of grievous sins that attract the wrath of God. Fire in large quantities is associated with bad things. Moreover, the figure of the devil and fire are linked. For it destroys. Satan claims power with the help of fire. Also he uses it as a symbol of suffering. This is one of the reasons why in pagan cults, fire is used with great abundance.

The “sacred” fires are innumerable among them.

On the other hand, the torment of the fire that does not go out is a constant in the Scriptures and tradition. Fire in great quantities, which cannot be extinguished, having for its purpose

only suffering, can only be linked to the Evil One. The good Lord can use it, and sometimes there can be suffering, but it is never linked to destruction but to purification. The most obvious case is purgatory. We will be purified through fire (1 Corinthians 3:1215). But this is only temporary, and the goal is to come out perfect afterwards.

What does fire ultimately mean? It depends on who it is associated with.

Associated with God, as at Pentecost, it represents His glory and majesty, bright as fire. The Sacred Heart often appears surrounded by fire, the ardor of love. Our Lord comes to cast this fire on the earth and all his

CHURCH AND STATE 5 desire is that it should blaze. (Luke 12:49) The angels are presented with flames of fire to represent the eagerness and irresistible force of the heavenly spirits when they carry out God’s orders.

In man, to have fire is to have life.

But it can also be a sign of disease, discord, war, fiery passions…

We can say, in conclusion, that a controlled fire, in general terms, is a divine sign. Whilst a fire that is out of control, an inferno, as a rule, is not a good thing.

For our part, let us cultivate well the fire of charity, of zeal for God, and let us fight the fire of passions and of the Evil One.

That the State must be separated from the Church is a thesis absolutely false, a most pernicious error. Based, as it is, on the principle that the State must not recognize any religious cult, it is in the first place guilty of a great injustice to God; for the Creator of man is also the Founder of human societies, and preserves their existence as He preserves our own.

We owe Him, therefore, not only a private cult, but a public and social worship to honour Him. Besides, this thesis is an obvious negation of the supernatural order. It limits the action of the State to the pursuit of public prosperity during this life only, which is but the proximate object of political societies; and it occupies itself in no fashion (on the plea that this is foreign to it) with their ultimate object which is man’s eternal happiness after this short life shall have run its course.

But as the present order of things is temporary and subordinated to the conquest of man’s supreme and absolute welfare, it follows that the civil power must not only place no

obstacle in the way of this conquest, but must aid us in effecting it. The same thesis also upsets the order providentially established by God in the world, which demands a harmonious agreement between the two societies. Both of them, the civil and the religious society, although each exercises in its own sphere its authority over them.

It follows necessarily that there are many things belonging to them in common in which both societies must have relations with one another. Remove the agreement between Church and State, and the result will be that from these common matters will spring the seeds of disputes which will become acute on both sides; it will become more difficult to see where the truth lies, and great confusion is certain to arise.

Finally, this thesis inflicts great injury on society itself, for it cannot either prosper or last long when due place is not left for religion, which is the supreme rule and the sovereign mistress in all questions

touching the rights and the duties of men.

Hence the Roman Pontiffs have never ceased, as circumstances required, to refute and condemn the doctrine of the separation of Church and State.

Our illustrious predecessor, Leo XIII, especially, has frequently and magnificently expounded Catholic teaching on the relations which should subsist between the two societies.

“Between them,” he says, “there must necessarily be a suitable union, which may not improperly be compared with that existing between body and soul.

He proceeds: “Human societies cannot, without becoming criminal, act as if God did not exist or refuse to concern themselves with religion, as though it were something foreign to them, or of no purpose to them….

As for the Church, which has God Himself for its author, to exclude her from the active life of the nation, from the laws, the education of the young, the family, is to commit a great and pernicious error.

MIRACLES IN RETURN FOR FAITH Anthony Hofler

The lamentable enfeeblement of Christianity (and, primarily, of its authentic expression in Catholicism) as the yardstick of private and public moral standards is obvious, despite the exasperatingly-pitiful attempts of religious ‘leaders’ to identify crumbs of comfort. The minority of the laity who resisted specific symptoms of secularism have a choice. They can continue with appeals which fall flat because the religious ‘soil’ is so poor, or pay more attention to cultivating the soil in hope that someday it might sustain better results. The spiritual and moral wasteland has grown as religion’s hold on people has faded.

Logic as well as Scripture supports efforts to build up people’s faith and to link it with practical situations, and this may indeed eventually begin to reverse the triumphs of Satan. Our Lord used metaphors showing that too much strain on defective material causes a rupture (Matthew 9:16-17; Mark. 2:21-22; Luke. 5:3638). You can reduce the strain, which is what Moses did regarding divorce (Matthew 19:8; Mark. 10:5) and how today’s ‘modern-minded,’ ‘pragmatic’ religious ‘leaders’ respond to rampant defiance; alternatively, if possible, you can strengthen the material (which is the purpose, but not always the effect, of patching).

The Gospels show explicitly a cause-and-effect connection between faith and events. Our Lord said that prayer coupled with complete confidence will be rewarded (Matthew 21:21-22); asking simply in His name for something from the Father is effective (John 14: 13-14 and 16:23-24). It is clear that even miracles will be worked, and in the present state of the world some of the necessary changes seem to need miracles.

The Gospels do not show that every miracle or refusal to perform one depended on whether the relevant people showed faith beforehand. There are at least eighteen references to Our Lord’s miraculous healings which mention no link with manifested faith, but there are twenty-one occasions when there was such a connection. We are told that “in his own country he did not do many mighty works” because of the “unbelief’ of the people there (Matthew 13:53-58).

Because we seem to lack records of all the wonderful things which He did (John 20:30 and 21:25), it is impossible to prepare a complete comparison between His faith-rewarding acts and gratuitous ones. He said, however, categorically that faith as small as “a mustard-seed (the smallest seed of all - Matthew 13:32; Mark 4:31) is enough to ‘move mountains’ and ‘uproot trees’ (Matthew 17: 20-21; Luke. 17:6), but that we must not be led astray by the false Christs and false prophets who will arise and show great signs and wonders (Matthew 24:23-25). Nor must we use prayer as a challenge: Our Lord reminded Satan that God must not be put to the test (Luke4:12; Deuteronomy 6:16), and refused requests to give a sign to ‘prove His credentials’ (Matthew 12:38-39 - reported also in Luke 11:16, 29, and Mark. 8:11-12 - and Matthew 16:1-4).

The influence of faith in effective prayer can be seen also in the fact that if there had been as few as ten virtuous inhabitants in Sodom it would not have been destroyed (Genesis 18:20-32). So we may infer that, despite (a) the sin around us being “very grave” and (b) there being no “great outcry” against it (Genesis 18:20), there have hitherto been enough virtuous people around to deter God from repeating what He did to Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18:24-25, 2728). Yet the prayers of those virtuous people are not bringing about the eradication of the grave sin which now pervades society.

Why is grave sin extending its influence instead of diminishing? Are there too few virtuous people, although not so few that “brimstone and fire” will fall (Genesis 19:24)? Are too few of the virtuous people praying for grave sin to disappear? Is the insufficiency not of the number praying for that but of the number of the prayers? Our Lord’s promise about efficacious prayer did not mention any minimum number of prayers, or of prayers. Is the problem that the people praying lack complete confidence that what they desire will occur, or that they are praying directly to God the Father instead of through His Son? The-increasing durability of Satan’s victories is an increasing

challenge to the morale of people who resist them, and an increasing encouragement to the “scoffers” who St. Peter warned would come (2 Peter 3:3-4).

Something else which has been increasing for quite some time is the obviousness that the contra-Catholic transformation is not simply a series of random and unconnected events, but an organised agenda capitalising on ‘the spirit of the age’. Such spirits do change, but usually slowly. It is true that the culture has to change before its symptoms can (so efforts to shore up and build on what remain of Catholic foundations are wise), but of course disputes about the symptoms test the culture and its changeability. Experience can influence opinions.

Our Lord said that nobody who has drunk old wine wants new, because he finds the old to be better (Luke 5:39). Is that true if applied metaphorically to today’s society? People have experienced the “old wine” of Catholic-compliant laws and customs, and the “new wine” of contra-Catholic ones. Seemingly nowhere has the “old wine” been judged preferable and the “new wine” been poured away. The dominant ‘taste’ is for people to drink what they fancy, and this is heard even from people who previously supplied what is now much less popular; some of them ‘water down’ their offerings in hope of retaining a portion of the ‘market’.

Unless there is a miracle, rejection of the “new wine” may be delayed (perhaps for a very long time) until it is recognised to be toxic.

On The Paradoxical Connection Between Love, Law And Joy A Homily For The 6th Sunday Of Easter Mons. Charles Pope

In the Gospel, Jesus cuts right through the modern Western tendency to place love in opposition with law, and law in opposition with joy. Jesus joins all three concepts and summons us to a new attitude.

I. Announcement of the Principle Jesus says, As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy might be complete.

Note how the Lord joins the three concepts of love, law, and joy. This is precisely the opposite of what Western culture does. The best that Western culture will admit of law is that it is a necessary evil; more routinely it is viewed as an unloving imposition by the powerful on the weak, the hierarchy on the laity, the (evil, oppressive, pharisaical) Church on decent people.

Whereas the modern world disconnects law from love, Jesus links them. How do we both

experience and show God’s love?

Jesus says that we do so by keeping His commandments. He sets forth a vision whereby we, having experienced God’s love, desire and rejoice in His commands.

Again, this is quite contrary to modern notions. According to the modern world, a “loving” God has few or no rules. He merely affirms, encourages, accepts, and includes — or so goes the thinking. If someone is confronted by a moral truth that displeases them, their retort may be as simplistic as “God is love.” It implies that God doesn’t mind what we do since he is loving and merciful. It also confuses love with mere kindness. Kindness is an aspect of Love, but so is rebuke and correction. No loving parents will simply affirm bad behaviour in their children. They will correct them, and, if necessary punish them because they love them.

Jesus too is surely loving, especially of sinners. He encourages us, he includes the outcast, and so forth,

but He also speaks of sin and rebukes it. He embraces the sinner but directs him to “Sin no more.”

He sets forth a demanding moral vision even as He shows mercy. In this Gospel, Jesus joins love and the law, saying that the law brings joy. They are not opposed. It is not an either/or, but a both/and. Jesus was not just the “affirmer in chief” who went about saying nothing but pleasant things.

He, and his apostles who spoke for him, also speaks against anger, greed, malice, neglect of the poor, divorce, fornication, adultery, impure thoughts, homosexual acts, lack of faith, revenge, dishonesty, the sin of human respect, false and worldly priorities, and countless other matters.

II. Application of the Principle The two greatest Commandments that summarise the whole law are to Love God and to love our neighbour.

Hence, to further connect the Law and the Love of God, we should

4th June 2021 Catholic Voice consider that when we love the Lord, and his love remains in us, that we will love what he loves and who he loves. Hence, with the Lord’s love in us we will love justice, chastity, forgiveness, generosity, and so forth. We will also come to love others more deeply, even those that trouble us. So there comes to us a deep love of the Commandments when we truly love God. We can say, “God has been good to me and I love him. If God wants it, I want it too. If God doesn’t want it neither do I.” Hence, Jesus says, “If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love.”

As for the love of neighbour, here too, the Commandments are essential. They foster a common moral vision that helps us to live together, protect the vulnerable (especially children) and live within accepted boundaries. Good fences make good neighbours and God’s commandments set proper limits and delineate expectations and rights for communal living. Accepting and living the Commandments brings blessings and averts a lot of trouble. We do not keep the Commandments merely for our own sake, but for our families, community, Church and nation. So, keeping the Commandments is a way of loving our neighbour.

Though some see the Commandments as prison walls, they are not. They are defending walls that keep the wolf and devourer, the devil, away. This too is a way of showing love for our neighbour. What ever we can do to limit the devil’s influence is a blessing not only for us but for others.

III. The Animation of the Principle In the Gospel, not only does Jesus link love to the keeping of the commandments, but also says that the keeping of the commandments

leads to joy: I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy might be complete.

Of this, I am a witness. When I entered the Seminary nearly forty years ago I was poorly catechised (having been largely reared in the 1970s). I don’t think I could even have listed most of the Ten Commandments. But as I entered I was amazed at the rich legacy of teaching, truth and wisdom that came from the Scriptures and the teachings of the Church I was studying.

God’s truth and law made sense, it was practical, good, true and beautiful. I was animated, thrilled in my soul to learn of it and somewhat angry at how much was denied me in the crazy 1970s. In my life now, I rejoice to study God’s law and truth, to preach it and teach it to others. In it are contained saving truths, and truths that explain the purpose of our life. So many today live without real meaning, and they focus on passing things and fads.

But God’s Law is tested and true.

It has endured because it makes sense and works. I am mindful of the words of Baruch: Happy are we O Israel, for what pleases God is known to us! (Baruch 4:4)

LOVE - LAW - JOY 9 Indeed, O Lord, how I love your law! It is the joy and centre of my life. It gives me understanding and purpose. It teaches me your wisdom and summons me to be the man you created me to be. Yes, Lord, it is my immense joy and privilege to proclaim your Law in the great assembly and joyfully announce your wisdom and your decrees.

Keep me faithful Lord unto death.

The Law of the LORD is perfect, Reviving the soul; The testimony of the LORD is Trustworthy, Making wise the simple.

The precepts of the LORD are right, Bringing joy to the heart; The commandments of the LORD Are radiant, Giving light to the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is pure, Enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true, And altogether righteous.

They are more precious than gold, Than much pure gold; They are sweeter than honey, Than honey from the comb.

By them indeed Your servant is warned; In keeping them is great reward.

Letters SDLP and Abortion Dear Editor, In a forthright condemnation of the continual downward spiral of the SDLP’s much-vaunted mantra: “We are pro-life,” Mr. Hugh Roody of Limavady, Co. Derry stated in a letter to the Belfast Telegraph (April 23rd) that the Infrastructure Minister, Nichola Mallon and Deputy Leader of the party, felt frustrated at the delay in rolling out abortion “services” here.

The Minister also pointed out that such a delay shows that the UUP Health minister views this as a low-grade priority.

On Holy Thursday, Mallon, questioned by the Belfast journalist, John Manley, on this apparent volt faceHi Anthony towards the pro-death view ( my words), replies that she must bring into law such views. I wrote the Minister quoting the Catechism and from the Gospel of Life (1995) that no politician who considers themselves Catholic can do this; since it is not a just but an immoral law! To date, I have had no reply to my letter.

But should I be surprised? When she brought her new baby to a meeting at Hillsborough in 2019, she rightly received much support, but now it seems that things are different. The new Turks with which the Eastwood/ Hanna leadership have endorsed, such as Matthew O Toole, clearly demonstrated that the pro-life banner has been furled up and thrown away; it has no place, just like the unborn have no place, in the SDLP lexicon of the new reality! The SDLP Youth groupings have become notorious for their blanket acceptance of doctrines of the alphabet cause, and now the rage against the unborn must equally be satisfied. It seems that Minister Mallon’s Damascus conversion to the Culture of Death shows desperation for her political future or is a final goodbye to any deference towards the Catholic social justice dogma, so clearly demonstrated in the life of John Hume. With elections in 2022, it seems that the likes of Daniel McCrossan and Dolores Kelly, who still blindly adhere to the Emperor’s new clothes theory, with their belief that the party is still Pro-life, are deluded.

In conclusion, Lord Trimble (UUP) once stated that the North was becoming a cold house for unionists. One can reword that and ascribe it to the Catholics who vote for the SDLP, with its leadership now firmly anchored to the anti-life gospel. Minister Mallon would do well and take the example of the recently deceased Shirley Williams, who, although a Catholic with liberal views, was consistently pro-life, to the degree that she was

Removing Love and Hope from our Relationships Dear Editor, Recent statements by politicians regarding Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) are very revealing. In effect they are demanding that the government devise an RSE programme which would be imposed on all schools, irrespective of the school’s values and ethos.

I wonder how they would feel if the same logic were applied to politics, i.e., that all but one party would be banned, thus eliminating voter choice, after all, what need has the public for political alternatives!

Over the years parents have “voted with their feet” to support their parish schools. Indeed, secondary schools founded by religious, are typically greatly oversubscribed. Parents of all backgrounds really appreciate the values that these schools offer.

Given their record on so many matters, parents would be wise to be sceptical of politicians setting themselves up as the arbiters of what is good for our kids. Both government and opposition politicians have abjectly failed to shut down porn sites, while advocating abstract “objective” sex-ed programmes, deprived of a value system, which objectivise women, emphasise consent in a legalistic way over commitment to a caring personal relationship, and may even consider the unborn child to be a disposable inconvenience. In short, they promote the consumerisation of our sexuality, relationships, and even our lives.

In the scripture readings at last Sunday’s Mass, there were 20 references to “love”. This is what makes Christianity distinctive; that we believe that God is always loving us, and that our happiness comes from being enabled to see this, and to allow this love to flow and flourish in our lives.

Removing love and hope from our relationships and our sexuality education, can only make it harder for our young people, to embrace the life of meaning and personal responsibility our very humanity yearns for.

In this article I am coming back to the subject of vaccination and the moral position with regards to material cooperation in vaccines which have been produced by unethical means. This is a difficult subject matter because many people, who have serious moral reservations about taking the vaccines are coming under pressure get vaccinated. This article is not meant be a judgement on those who have already taken the vaccines in good conscience, as much of the information coming from authoritative Catholic sources favours the vaccines or states that one can take any of the current Covid vaccines without any moral qualms.

Those Catholics who have taken the vaccines are not responsible for the erroneous information they have been given, they accepted this information in good faith and in most cases it was given in good faith. Therefore the question of culpability is not certain.

That the information given in relation to the moral acceptability of abortion tainted vaccines is erroneous comes from the fact that the eminent Catholics who favour this position have based their arguments on the false premise that the only grave evil that needs to be taken into consideration with regard to co-operation, is the evil of an abortion that happened many decades ago.

I recently responded to one of those eminent Catholics and whilst space does not allow me to publish the full response here, it can be found on Life Site News under the heading “Why I oppose the argument for the moral liceity of covid vaccination”. It is also available on our Lumen Fidei website.

away from Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church, is to get as many people as possible to accept routine vaccinations.

These globalists are not acting out of a sense of Catholic morality, one finds that these are the same globalists who promote the right to abortion.

In the last issue we showed where one Church in Dublin was unjustly demanding that grandparents of children to be baptised had to be vaccinated if they wanted to attend the baptism.

Another country parish in Ireland recently published a notice in their weekly bulletin that said that preference for attendance at Holy Mass would be given to those who were vaccinated and that Mass times during the week would be held at times that favoured those age groups who were most likely to have been vaccinated. Thank God, there was a backlash against this proposal and the parish priest, seeing his mistake, dropped the plan.

The Irish government is adopting similar tactics with what they call a ‘vaccine bonus’. In reality, there is no bonus for those who are vaccinated.

Living a normal life without undue government interference, is not a bonus.

The real policy is to punish, threaten and frighten those who do not want the vaccine in order to break down their resistance.

It is important that, despite the differences in opinion, we have a robust

discussion on this topic in order to arrive at the truth of the matter. The truth sets us free and allows us to make proper decisions that help us to serve God in how we live our lives.

The response I recently published was to Professor Roberto de Mattei, who has published a booklet which claims that one can morally take the abortion tainted Covid-19 vaccines. I strongly disagree with this position for the following reasons.

One of the foundational principles of moral theology is that one cannot do evil even though good may come of it.

Another is that Catholics should seek to avoid all co-operation with evil.

The Catholic Church has long recognised that there are times when it may not be possible to avoid all cooperation with evil and has therefore enunciated an in-depth moral theology on this very point. Matters to be considered include the gravity of the evil in question, whether there are alternatives to co-operating in the evil, the duty to publicly oppose the evil in question and to do all in one’s power to bring the evil to an end, the necessity of the good that is being sought which may involve co-operation with evil.

When looking at these issues we must be careful to make accurate distinctions.

In the first paragraph of Professor de Mattei’s booklet, he speaks of “the

moral liceity of anti-Covid vaccines”.

This is not the same as the moral liceity of taking a vaccination against Covid.

Vaccines and other medicines which use stem-cells from aborted babies in their production can never be morally licit as a deliberate evil is done - the procuring of organs from an electively aborted baby - to create the vaccines.

This contradicts the first principle of moral theology – it is never licit to do evil, even though good may come of it.

As Saint Paul says, “And not rather (as we are slandered, and as some affirm that we say) let us do evil, that there may come good? whose damnation is just.” (Romans 3:8) Professor de Mattei goes to great lengths at the beginning of the book to outline the moral question that faces us however, he errs because he only looks at the grave sin of abortion.

“Does the receipt of, or if I am a doctor, the injection of vaccines, render me complicit in abortion, hence committing a grave sin?” (MLV pg.7) There are other grave sins involved in the making of these vaccines and cooperation with these other evils must be morally assessed separate to the cooperation with abortion. These other evils are not addressed in Professor de Mattei’s booklet which renders his arguments defective.

That these other issues must be addressed is confirmed by the instruction ‘Dignitas Personae’ of the Congregation for the Doctrine and the Faith.

“The use of human embryos or fetuses as an object of experimentation constitutes a crime against their dignity as human beings who have a right to the same respect owed to a child once born, just as to every person”. These forms of experimentation always constitute a grave moral disorder.” (DP 34) “Proposals to use these embryos for research or for the treatment of disease are obviously unacceptable because they treat the embryos as mere “biological material” and result in their destruction. The proposal to thaw such My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee. I beg pardon of Thee for all those that do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee. Amen.

embryos without reactivating them and use them for research, as if they were normal cadavers, is also unacceptable.”

(DP 19) “Therefore, it needs to be stated that there is a duty to refuse to use such “biological material” even when there is no close connection between the researcher and the actions of those who performed the artificial fertilization or the abortion, or when there was no prior agreement with the centres in which the artificial fertilization took place.

This duty springs from the necessity to remove oneself, within the area of one’s own research, from a gravely unjust legal situation and to affirm with clarity the value of human life.” (DP 35) The instruction ‘Donum Vitae’ of the congregation also confirms this.

“The corpses of human embryos and fetuses, whether they have been deliberately aborted or not, must be respected just as the remains of other human beings. In particular, they cannot be subjected to mutilation or to autopsies if their death has not yet been verified and without the consent of the parents or of the mother. Furthermore, the moral requirements must be safeguarded that there be no complicity in deliberate abortion and that the risk of scandal be avoided”. (DV section 4 para 3) It is therefore sad to read Professor de Mattei dismiss this concern as being ‘peripheral’.

“Here, however, we are discussing the murder of innocents, not possession of the mortal remains of a victim, a problem which is entirely peripheral.”

(MLV pg.52) Professor de Mattei also compares the corpses of aborted babies to stolen treasure buried in a field, and to stolen goods (MLV pg.52). To speak of the human body of a murdered innocent child in such crass terms, is disrespectful and not worthy of the eminent professor.

He also cites Professor Danilo Castellano on the use of cadavers who in turn cites the case of the air accident of the Andes in 1972, where the survivors were obliged to feed on the bodies of their deceased travel companions.

As previously noted in the instruction ‘Dignitas Personae’ of the Congregation for the Doctrine and the Faith, it is not acceptable to treat the bodies of murdered innocent children “as if they were normal cadavers” (DP 19)

THE VACCINE ISSUE 13 The comparison is not valid for another reason. There are no pilots deliberately crashing planes in the Andes so that the survivors can eat off the dead corpses of their fellow passengers. There are abortionists however, who are deliberately killing children in order to sell their organs to universities and to pharmaceutical laboratories and it is quite probable, given that the demand is for ‘fresh’ organs, that some of these children may not be dead when their organs are taken. We are dealing with a whole industry that is abominable and we must take cognizance of all of the evils being committed, not just the act of abortion which facilitates the other evils.

To understand the great dignity of the human body one has only to look to Our Lady. After her death, Our Lord did not allow corruption to touch her sinless body. She was assumed body and soul into heaven. Our Lady was conceived without original sin and, whilst the bodies of the innocent aborted children are tainted by original sin, they are not tainted by actual sin and therefore they have a dignity that is greater than the bodies of those whose lives have been tainted by actual sin.

One cannot treat the remains of aborted children ‘as if they were normal cadavers’, because they are not ‘normal cadavers’. They are still to be respected because of their great dignity, having been created in the image and likeness of God. This is not a peripheral issue because the use of ‘biological material’ from a deliberately aborted baby is also a grave evil, therefore unacceptable and a Catholic cannot have formal co-operation in the desecration of the corpse of a deliberately aborted human child regardless of whether they had formal co-operation in the abortion itself.

Another weakness in Professor Roberto de Mattei’s analysis is that he does not seem to see the shift in emphasis that has occurred within the Vatican documents he cites in relation to the vaccination issue. He sees it in other areas, including in the document Amoris Laetitia.

“However, it could be objected that fifteen years is not sufficient time to attribute infallibility to the Ordinary Magisterium of the Church as expressed in these documents, or for its being closed to reform, especially since over recent decades we have seen the ecclesiastical authorities adopt ambiguous and, at times, erroneous moral positions. It suffices to recall the debate prompted by Pope Francis’s

Apostolic Exhortation Amoris laetitia of 19 March 2016.” (MLV pg.9)

actions, not in the vaccines or the material itself.” (2017 note)

The position adopted in recent Vatican documents from the Congregation for the Doctrine and the Faith, most notably those of 2017 and of 2020, contradict the position of the 2005 letter of the Pontifical Academy for Life which was approved by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

“The technical characteristics of the production of the vaccines most commonly used in childhood lead us to exclude that there is a morally relevant cooperation between those who use these vaccines today and the practice of voluntary abortion. Hence, we believe that all clinically recommended vaccinations can be used with a clear conscience and that the use of such vaccines does not signify some sort of cooperation with voluntary abortion.” (2017 note)

The 2005 letter states: “As regards the preparation, distribution and marketing of vaccines produced as a result of the use of biological material whose origin is connected with cells coming from foetuses voluntarily aborted, such a process is stated, as a matter of principle, morally illicit, because it could contribute in encouraging the performance of other voluntary abortions, with the purpose of the production of such vaccines.”

“Therefore, doctors and fathers of families have a duty to take recourse to alternative vaccines (if they exist), putting pressure on the political authorities and health systems so that other vaccines without moral problems become available. They should take recourse, if necessary, to the use of conscientious objection with regard to the use of vaccines produced by means of cell lines of aborted human foetal origin. Equally, they should oppose by all means (in writing, through the various associations, mass media, etc.) the vaccines which do not yet have morally acceptable alternatives, creating pressure so that alternative vaccines are prepared, which are not connected with the abortion of a human foetus, and requesting rigorous legal control of the pharmaceutical industry producers.”

“In any case, there remains a moral duty to continue to fight and to employ every lawful means in order to make life difficult for the pharmaceutical industries which act unscrupulously and unethically.” (above quotations from the Pontifical Academy for Life’s 2005 letter) All of this was dismissed in the 2017 and 2020 documents which, contrary to the 2005 letter, endorse the use of these immorally produced vaccines.

“Especially in consideration of the fact that the cell lines currently used are very distant from the original abortions and no longer imply that bond of moral cooperation indispensable for an ethically negative evaluation of their use.” (2017 note) “As for the question of the vaccines that used or may have used cells coming from voluntarily aborted fetuses in their preparation, it must be specified that the “wrong” in the moral sense lies in the

As noted above, Professor Roberto de Mattei raises the question of infallibility and bases his moral support for vaccines on the position that it is the magisterium of the Church that is speaking. But, because these documents are saying contradictory things, it clearly shows that they cannot be part of the infallible magisterium of the Church and that they are indeed open to question. In 2017, the duty not to use these vaccines if possible and the duty to oppose these immorally produced vaccines “by all means”, is no longer stated and there is a suggestion that the passage of time can somehow change the morality of the production methods and lessen the immorality of the origins of these vaccines. Such a position is incompatible with Catholic moral thinking. Professor de Mattei has not picked up on this point.

On page 41 of MLV, Professor de Mattei begins a section titled “Moral co-operation with the past?” Once again, because he is solely focused on the immorality of abortion to the exclusion of other gravely evil matters, he consigns the immorality connected with these vaccines to the distant past. This is not the case. Just last year, in 2020, vaccines were immorally developed using cell-lines from an aborted child and

4th June 2021 these vaccines are being produced in the current year. We are not dealing with long past immoral actions and so this section of Professor de Mattei’s work is deeply flawed.

Professor de Mattei quotes Professor Stefano Kampowski, who says “The past cannot be changed. No one today can assist in the performance of someone else’s past action any more than he or she can prevent it.” (MLV pg.47) Whilst this is true, present immoral actions can and must be changed. Vaccine manufacturers can and must stop using all cell-lines obtained from aborted children, but they will not do this as long as there are Catholics who defend the products they make through the immoral use of the bodies of aborted children. One can assist in these present actions and indeed one is assisting by taking the immorally produced vaccines.

It would seem to me, that because one is actually taking the immorally produced product, that the co-operation with this evil is proximate and not remote.

To explain proximate co-operation in evil, Professor Roberto de Mattei gives the example of a man holding a ladder for a burglar. But to make the analogy more relevant, in this case, the burglar has murdered the woman of the house and has cut off her hand because it is reputed to have healing properties. He has then made a potion from the severed hand and offers it to the man holding the ladder. I would argue that the man holding the ladder, is in danger of formal co-operation in the evil because he knows the origin of the potion he is given.

The current Vatican position, supported by many eminent Catholics, is exacerbating the situation of immorally produced vaccines and medicines because it creates a potential market for billions of tainted, immorally produced, vaccines and other medicines. The level of scandal being given is huge, especially for those women who have had abortions and who have returned to their faith. The Vatican is telling them that it is acceptable to have medicines injected into their bodies which may have been produced using the dead bodies of their own children.

Professor de Mattei also joins those who seem to misunderstand the concept of the ‘common good’ and speaks of the common good only in terms of this world and the health of the body.

St Thomas Aquinas, in his Summa Theologiae, addressing the question of whether God is the final cause of all things tells us: “But it does not belong to the First Agent, Who is agent only, to act for the

acquisition of some end; He intends only to communicate His perfection, which is His goodness; while every creature intends to acquire its own perfection, which is the likeness of the divine perfection and goodness. Therefore the divine goodness is the end of all things.” (Summa Theologiae, First Part, Question 44, Article 4)

to its Supreme Good, to its fulfilment. A purely historical and materialistic vision would end up transforming the common good into a simple socio-economic wellbeing, without any transcendental goal, that is, without its most intimate reason for existing.” (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church - 170)

The ‘Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church’, published by the ‘Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace’ in 2004, has this to say about the common good.

Abortion denies the common good of those aborted by depriving them of the grace of Baptism and of the beatific vision. We should not profit on the bodies of these poor unfortunate souls simply because we seek to protect ourselves from diseases which can be countered in other ways and which, in the case of covid-19, do not represent a significant threat to the vast majority of the population. As the Pontifical Academy for Life reminded us in 2005, we still have “a moral duty to continue to fight and to employ every lawful means in order to make life difficult for the pharmaceutical industries which act unscrupulously and unethically.”

“The common good of society is not an end in itself; it has value only in reference to attaining the ultimate ends of the person and the universal common good of the whole of creation. God is the ultimate end of his creatures and for no reason may the common good be deprived of its transcendent dimension, which The Catholic Response moves beyond the historical dimension while at the same time fulfilling it. This perspective reaches its fullness by virtue of faith in Jesus’ Passover, which sheds clear light on the attainment of humanity’s true common good. Our history — the personal and collective effort to elevate the human condition — begins and ends in Jesus: thanks to Him, by means of Him and in light of Him every reality, including human society, can be brought

The best way to stop the production of these immoral vaccines is to ‘kill’ the market by refusing to accept ethically compromised vaccines. The immoral production of vaccines and other medicines continues to increase in our world precisely because the market for these morally compromised



products is still growing and sadly, this market is now being fuelled by the statements coming from certain sections of the Catholic Church.

This situation is also being used by malevolent forces to divide the pro-life community with conflicts arising between those who accept the vaccines and those who do not accept them. From what I have seen, and I count myself in the group that does not accept the vaccines, the Catholics on either side of this issue seek to live their lives according to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

In any area of conflict, both parties cannot be correct, either one or other of the parties is right and the other wrong, or both are wrong. Let us strive to maintain charity in our dealings with those who disagree with us on this issue and let us continue to have robust discussion whilst maintaining respect for all involved in this sad situation, where the bodies of aborted babies are being unjustly used for commercial and other research purposes and let us pray and work for an end to abortion and for the creation of a Catholic society founded on the family which consists of the marriage of one man and one woman and their biological children.

Friday After The Octave Of Corpus Christi The Feast Of The Sacred Heart Of Jesus Dom Prosper Gueranger

Today it is the Sacred Heart of the Word made flesh that the Holy Spirit puts before us, that we may know and love and adore it. There is a mysterious connection between these three feasts, of the blessed Trinity, Corpus Christi, and the Sacred Heart. The aim of the Holy Ghost, in all three, is to initiate us more and more into that knowledge of God by faith, which is to fit us for the face-to-face vision in heaven.

We have already seen how God, being made known to us, by the first, in Himself, manifests Himself to us, by the second, in His outward works; for the Holy Eucharist is the memorial, here below, in which He has brought together, and with all possible perfection, all those His wondrous works. But by what law can we pass so rapidly, so almost abruptly, from one feast, which is all directly regarding God, to another, which celebrates the works done by Him to and for us? Then again: how came the divine thought, the eternal Wisdom, from the infinite repose of the eternally blessed Trinity, to the external activity of a love for us poor creatures, which has produced what we call the mysteries of our redemption? The Heart of the Man-God is the solution of these difficulties; it answers all such questions, and explains to us the whole divine plan.

We knew that the sovereign happiness which is in God, we knew that the life eternal communicated from the Father to the Son, and from these two to the Holy Ghost, in light and love, was to be given by the will of these three divine Persons to created beings; not only to those which were purely spiritual, but likewise to that creature whose nature is the union of spirit and matter, that is, to man. A pledge of this life eternal was given to him in the Sacrament of the Euchariet. It is by the Eucharist that man, who has already been made a partaker of the divine nature by the grace of the sanctifying Spirit, is united to the divine Word, and is made a true

member of this only-begotten Son of the Father. Though it has not yet appeared what we shall be, says St. John, still we are now the sons of God; we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like to Him; for we are called to live, as the Word Himself does, in the society of His eternal Father for ever and ever.

But the infinite love of the sacred Trinity, which thus called us frail creatures to a participation in Its own blessed life, would accomplish this merciful design by means of another love, a love more like that which we ourselves can feel; that is, the created love of a human Soul, evinced by the beatings of a Heart of flesh like our own. The Angel of the great Counsel, who is sent to make known to the world the merciful designs of the Ancient of days, took to Himself, in order to fulfil His divine mission, a created, a human form; and this would enable men to see with their eyes, yea, and even touch with their hands, the Word of life, that life eternal which was with the Father, but appeared even unto us.

This human nature, which the Son of God took into personal union with Himself, from the womb of

the Virgin-Mother, was the docile instrument of infinite love, but it was not absorbed into, or lost in, the Godhead; it retained its own substance, its special faculties, its distinct will, which will ruled, under the influence of the divine Word, the acts and movements of His most holy Soul and adorable Body. From the very first instant of its existence, the human Soul of Christ was inundated, more directly than was any other creature, with that true light of the Word, which enlightens every man who comes into this world; it enjoyed the faceto-face vision of the divine Essence; and therefore took in, at a single glance, the absolute beauty of the sovereign Being, and the wisdom of the divine decree which called finite beings into a participation of infinite bliss.

It understood its sublime mission, and conceived an immense love for man and for God. This love began simultaneously with life, and filled not only His Soul, but impressed, in its own way, the Body too, the moment it was formed from the substance of the Virgin-Mother by the operation of the Holy Ghost. The effect of HIS love told, consequently, upon His Heart of

true human flesh; it set in motion those beatings, which made the Blood of redemption circulate in His sacred veins.

For it was not with Him as with other men, the pulsations of whose hearts are, at first, the consequence of nothing but the vital power which is in the human frame; until, when reason has awakened, emotions produce physical impressions, which quicken or dull the throbbings of the heart. With the Man-God it was not so: His Heart, from the very first moment of its life, responded to the law of His Soul’s love, whose power to act upon His human Heart was as incessant, and as intense, as is the power of organic vitality — a love as burning at the first instant of the Incarnation, as it is this very hour in heaven. For the human love of the Incarnate Word, resulting from His intellectual knowledge of God and of creatures, was as perfect as that knowledge, and therefore as incapable of all progress; though, being our Brother, and our model in all things, He, day by day, made more manifest to us the exquisite sensibility of His divine Heart.

At the period of Jesus’ coming upon this earth, man had forgotten how to love, for he had forgotten what true beauty was. His heart of flesh seemed to him as a sort of excuse for his false love of false goods: his heart was but an outlet, whereby his soul could stray from heavenly things to the husks of earth, there to waste his power and his substance.

To this material world, which the soul of man was to render subservient to its Maker’s glory — to this world, which, by a sad perversion, kept man’s soul a slave to his senses and passions — the Holy Ghost sent a marvellous power, which, like a resistless lever, would replace the world in its right position: it was the sacred Heart of Jesus; a Heart of flesh, like that of other human beings, from whose created throbbings there would ascend to the eternal Father an expression of love, which would be a homage infinitely pleasing to

the infinite Majesty, because of the union of the Word with that human Heart.

It is a harp of sweetest melody, that is ever vibrating under the touch of the Spirit of love; it gathers up into its own music the music of all creation, whose imperfections it corrects, whose deficiencies it supplies, tuning all discordant voices into unity, and so offering to the glorious Trinity a hymn of perfect praise. The Trinity finds its delight in this Heart. It is the one only organum, as St. Gertrude calls it, the one only instrument which finds acceptance with the Most High. Through it must pass all the inflamed praises of the burning Seraphim, just as must the humble homage paid to its God by inanimate creation. By it alone are to come upon this world the favours of heaven. It is the mystic ladder between man and God, the channel of all graces, the way whereby man ascends to God, and God descends to man.

The Holy Ghost, whose masterpiece it is, has made it a living image of Himself; for although in the ineffable relations of the divine Persons, He is not the source of love, He is its substantial expression, or in theological language, the term; it is He who inclines the Holy Trinity to those works outside Itself, which produce creatures; and then, having given them being, and to some

SACRED HEART 17 life, He (the Holy Spirit) pours out upon them all the effusion of their Creator’s love for them. And so it. is with the love which the ManGod has for God and Man: its direct and, so to say, material expression is the throbbing it produces upon His Sacred Heart; and again, it is by that Heart, that, like the Water and Blood which came from His wounded Side, He pours out upon the world a stream of redemption and grace, which is to be followed by the still richer one of glory.

One of the soldiers, the Gospel tells us, opened Jesus’ Side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water. We must keep before us this text and the fact it relates, for they give us the true meaning of the feast we are celebrating. The importance of the event here related is strongly intimated, by the earnest and solemn way in which St. John follows up his narration. After the words just quoted, he adds: ‘And he that saw it has given testimony of it, and his testimony is true. And he knows that he says true, that ye also may believe; for these things were done, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.’ Here the Gospel refers us to the testimony of the Prophet Zacharias, who after predicting that the Spirit of grace would be poured out upon the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, says: ‘They shall look upon Him whom they pierced.’

As Fascism Destroys Freedom Christians Must Not Be Cowed Into Silence Christopher Monckton of Brenchleysubs

Less than 90 years after the rise of the tyranny of Hitler and the carbon-copy dictatorship of Mussolini, Christian pastors and teachers are once again being torn down, sometimes violently, from their pulpits and their blackboards.

This time it is not happening in Germany but – of all places – in Britain, and with the explicit support, among others, of the dithering old fogeys who are headmaster and provost of Eton, the Governors of Trent College, Nottingham, and the Kommissar [the German mot juste for “Commissioner”] of the Metropolitan Police.

Why is it legitimate to characterise these and suchlike august persons as Fascist (or, in the Fascists’ own carefully-chosen disguise-word, “woke”)?

First, the context. In 1999 Boris Yeltsin, who had supplanted the Communists, was removed from office by a silent but deadly coup led by the former KGB. The instigator of that coup, Vladimir Putin, then became Tsar of All the Russias, and installed his former KGB cronies in positions of power throughout the land. The old aristocracy of terror was restored.

But Putin was painfully aware, as was Xi Jinping, who rose to power in once-Communist China a decade later, that Communism is economically catastrophic. The Communist Manifesto required nationalisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange under the direct control of the dictator and his politburo.

That recipe for bankruptcy, scarcity and poverty removed the free-market incentives which have made the West prosperous and effortlessly successful. Both Putin and Xi were not stupid. They realised that Communism was an abject economic failure.

They also knew that the Fascist dictators of Germany and Italy had – until the Second World War – presided over countries that had shown astonishingly rapid economic growth. For Hitler and Mussolini had left all but the largest businesses free to do their own thing and jostle for success in the marketplace.

Therefore, they instituted nearidentical Fascist economic structures which, for the first time since the Communist revolutions in Russia and then in China, allowed all but the largest businesses complete freedom to operate without the Communist Manifesto’s constraints.

The largest businesses were required to cooperate closely with the dictators and their “Councils of State” (their disguise-word for politburo). That is why it was such bad idea for Britain’s most ineffectual Prime Minister, Theresa May, to let Huawei build Britain’s 5G cellphone infrastructure.

Huawei is big enough to answer directly to Xi and his junta.

However, both Putin and Xi were painfully aware how far behind the

West their economies had fallen thanks to the brutal stupidities of Communism. Therefore, they both took deliberate decisions to continue and greatly to accelerate the elaborate and costly Communist programme of destroying the fabric of Western society and, if possible, of getting the West to destroy itself from within, so as to give themselves an unfair but very powerful economic advantage.

There is no space here to reveal the myriad methods by which both the Russian and Chinese regimes work daily and actively, but covertly and deceptively (look up the word maskirovka), to undermine the West and bring it low economically, to their profit.

Here, there is only space to look at one of those methods: the organised destruction of the natural family.

Within only three years of the Communist revolution in Russia, Lenin had arranged for an emissary to be secretly sent to brief the Communist Party of the United States, which, acting directly under Russian instructions, forthwith adopted a series of resolutions designed to undermine and destroy

the family, which the Communists had identified as the pillar of the West.

Dutifully, the Communists of the United States adopted the specified resolutions to promote first divorce, then abortion, then homosexuality and suchlike deviancies from the natural family. They have been at it tirelessly for exactly a century, and have succeeded – except in one refractory direction.

Christianity remains opposed to divorce because it harms the children of the marriage, to abortion because it tortures and then kills children, and homosexuality because it shortens the lives of its victims by as many years as heavy smoking does.

That, then, is the context. Now consider three stories, all of them in the past few months.

First, Eton. The “woke” headmaster [you now know what “woke” really means] has sacked one of the school’s most popular teachers for refusing to remove from his own YouTube channel a fair-minded and unobjectionable lecture raising legitimate questions about the alleged domination of wimmin (or, as we must now call them, “chestfeeding menstruant persons”) by male “patriarchy”.

The Provost, a goofy ex-Tory Minister, endorsed that savage attempt at denial of free speech, guaranteeing that the teacher’s lecture went viral.

Next, Trent College. It is nominally Christian, but was recently infiltrated by a well-funded lobby group (I should be most interested to know who is funding it) coyly entitled Educate and Celebrate, which persuaded the barmy governors – who, like most people in the West, have no idea who is really behind this nonsense – to allow the group to “embed gender, gender identity and sexual orientation into the fabric of your organisation”.

The Anglican chaplain, Dr Bernard Randall, preached a sermon saying, politely, that pupils should regard

FASCISM DESTROYS FREEDOM 19 themselves as free to continue to uphold Christian teaching on these questions. He was sacked, then reinstated by the vacillating governors, then furloughed, then dismissed again.

One of the reasons why the Fascists push the feeble-minded drivel of identity politics is that it is a powerful form of brainwashing.

The chaplain gives a fascinating account of a school assembly at which he saw dozens of teachers mindlessly repeating the zombie chant “Smash heteronormativity!” to the bafflement and alarm of the hapless pupils.

This mindlessness is exactly what Putin and Xi wish to engender in the West. It is now rife not only in schools and universities but also in workplaces, adding yet another crippling cost to businesses’ profit and loss accounts – a cost that is not, of course, inflicted on businesses in Russia or China. Indeed, Putin has legislated against homosexuality.

There are many, many such financial millstones round the necks of Western businesses, which appear to be self-inflicted but are

chiefly instigated by Russian and Chinese covert counter-intelligence operations. The quadrupling of electricity prices in the name of Saving The Planet is another. Putin has been actively subsidising antifracking groups in the West. China welcomes the industries and jobs priced out of the West by needlessly elevated energy costs.

Next time, I shall cover the astonishing story of Pastor Sherwood, a blameless, 71-yearold preacher violently assaulted, injured, unlawfully imprisoned for 21 hours and mercilessly interrogated by police (One question was “What would you say if your son was homosexual?”).

The woke Kommissar of the Metropolitan Volkspolizei has thus far refused to have her officers’ serious, imprisonable offences investigated by another force.

This is a cause celebre in the making. The pastor’s alleged crime? Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon: he uttered the words “Male and female created he them” in the street.

“And God created man to his own image: To the image of God he created him: Male and Female he created them.

And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, And fill the earth

(Genesis 1:27-28)

BAND OF BROTHERS SENT FORTH Mary Kearns

Hazardous journeys, persecution, imprisonment, miraculous escapes, shipwreck, conversions, rejections, adulation of crowds and assaults by crowds - just some of the elements making up the thrilling adventure story of the early Church, all happening under the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit.

Since Easter we have been hearing in the Acts of the Apostles, the narrative of a band of brothers specially commissioned by Jesus Christ to carry his mission to the furthest ends of the known world. Who are these witnesses so commissioned?

When we give them our attention we find them a motley crew. A handful of fishermen, two of whose mother tried to canvas the best jobs for her boys, a collaborator with the hated Roman administration, a freedom fighter, a few men of whom we know nothing and others, who according to the questions raised by them, were familiar with Greek culture. Only their friendship with Jesus could possibly have brought such a disparate group together.

In addition, one man turned out a traitor and to replace him, a new member was chosen by lot.

Now Jesus is no longer with them.

Instead they are commanded to go and preach what he taught to all nations. This is the story Luke the evangelist brings to us in the Acts of the Apostles. Luke’s first volume is one of the synoptic gospels dealing with the ministry of Jesus that culminates with his death, resurrection and ascension into heaven. The second volume, ‘Acts of the Apostles’, covers the years from about 33AD to the early 60s. During that time, faith

in Jesus Christ was spreading from a small number of Jews in Jerusalem across most of the eastern Mediterranean including the islands, finally reaching the imperial city of Rome. People of various religions as well as pagans and those of different races heard the Word of God and many were converted. This was the beginning of the world-wide movement of Christianity spearheaded by a band of men, untrained and unskilled in communication who despite hostility and hardship carried out the mission entrusted to them by the Lord - “Go therefore make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Mt. 28:19) It is significant that The Acts of the Apostles bridges the time when some of the original eye-witnesses were no longer alive.

Luke, although not himself a witness, nonetheless had people available to him who had themselves heard first-

hand from Jesus and his associates.

Luke’s supreme and constant theme is the guidance of the Spirit and this is clearly manifested throughout the texts. Just as the ministry of Jesus began officially with his baptism in the Jordan, so does the ministry of the Apostles begin with the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

The effect is dramatic. No longer are the fearful band of brothers praying in the locked upper room in the company of the Blessed Mother.

With the coming of the Holy Spirit there is an outpouring of the gifts.

Especially noticeable is the gift of fortitude.

The gifts of the Spirit enable Luke to stress continually the unity of the first community of Christians, not alone in Jerusalem but later with Paul on his missionary journeys.

The counsels and decisions of the community are inspired as is seen in how the Spirit is poured out on the pagans when they are baptised (10:44-47) and in many other instances throughout the narrative.

4th June 2021 Catholic Voice As Peter reports the conversion of the first Gentile, a Roman named Cornelius, to the brothers in Judea: “I had scarcely begun to speak when the Holy Spirit came down on them in the same way it came down on us in the beginning” (11:15) The Acts of the Apostles reads like an adventure story. The band of brothers, now counting among them Paul, Barnabas, Silas and others, suffer many punishing ordeals and particularly in Paul’s case, shipwreck several times and marooning on an island.

It is true that sacred scripture is best heard and meditated upon, after having asked the Holy Spirit for enlightenment. However any means that help make the Word of God more relevant should be encouraged. In today’s world we have the benefit of dramatisation on screen. The film The Acts of the Apostles (produced

by Christian Movies and available on YouTube) is an excellent means of appreciating the reality of scripture, as the production does not add anything to the words but uses dramatic effect along with the sacred words in a way that brings the narrative to life.

In this production we see for example, the cripple healed outside the temple, the moment when Saul is thrown to the ground and hears the words of the Lord, the extraordinary conversion of Cornelius and his household, and the many sea voyages that had to be undertaken, to name only a few tremendous events of the beginning of the spread of Christianity. There are spectacular scenes of crowds in the various cities visited by the brothers, particularly noteworthy is the revolt in Ephesus. This was brought about by the silversmith Demetrius and his associates whose protest against Paul caused a riot in the city where its citizens believed

Ephesus to be the guardian of the goddess Artemis. We also see Paul’s taking his farewell from the tearful community at Miletus portrayed with sensitivity and depth. Later the commotion caused by his presence in Jerusalem and his defence before King Agrippa is watched by the Roman Governor Porcius Festus accompanied by the tribunes and city nobles of Caesarea. We see how Paul’s courage and perseverance impress even the king. “A little more and your arguments would make a Christian out of me” (26:28) Luke, the author of the Acts uses his craftsmanship to demonstrate the action of God working through the events undergone by the disciples so that a new global community of believers can be brought to birth.

We know from the Old and New Testaments that God often chooses the weak and makes them strong.

The closest men and women to Jesus during his life on earth had little or no earthly power or wealth and were without important connections. Therefore it should be no surprise to find them setting out to found a movement that has profoundly shaped subsequent

history. By the end of the Acts of the Apostles, their success has been remarkable and indeed the message of Jesus has reached what was then all of the known world.

The Acts of the Apostles is read at Mass on the Sundays of Eastertide and semi-continuously on the weekdays of Year Two. These readings are particularly appropriate during this liturgical season, providing a witness to the ideal of the post-Resurrection community. Addressed to someone named Theophilus, Acts is the sequel to the gospel of Luke.

Apparently Theophilus was a Christian believer who was seeking more knowledge about the faith of the new community.

Although Acts is not read in the Office of Readings, the story of the early Church is often told at readings for ordinations, for the sick, for funerals and the institution of extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.

Consideration For The New Lectionary In Ireland Catherine Kavanagh The Bishops of Ireland recently issued a call for submissions on a new edition of the Lectionary for Mass for Ireland (www. irishbishops.ie, 13/3/2021). The Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference is considering using the Revised New Jerusalem Bible - RNJB (2018 published by Darton, Longman & Todd) as the basis for a new edition of the Lectionary for Mass.

The Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference would do much better not to switch to the RNJB as the basis of a new Lectionary. The principal concern of any translation of the Scriptures ought to be the truth of God’s Word. The Bible is the Word of God, every jot and tittle of it is significant, and when we are translating or interpreting it, our fundamental concern ought to be the accuracy of our translation from the original languages to begin with. Then we should consider whether our interpretation of Scripture harmonises with what has been faithfully handed down to us by the Church for over two thousand years: if it does not, we should question our interpretation rather than undermining the words of Scripture.

As Catholics, we believe that the Church teaches the truth that Christ came to reveal to us, and in any of our hermeneutical or theological work on Scripture, the love of Christ’s truth would seem, logically, as if it must be our first Next issue of

priority. If the love of God’s truth is not our first priority, then I do not see how one can talk about faith in Christ in any meaningful way at all.

Faith in Christ means we put our trust in a reality that is greater than we are: but if it is we who are setting the agenda by subtle tweaking of the translation and interpretation of Scripture, then we are not putting our trust in a reality that is greater than we are, and ultimately Christ becomes merely a mythological figure on whom we project our own aspirations and desires.

The Revised New Jerusalem Bible puts gender inclusivity and gender neutrality ahead of accuracy in translation and ahead of accurate hermeneutics and theological understanding. Further, in attempting to be gender inclusive and gender neutral, the RNJB becomes clumsy and unidiomatic, and robs the English language of its vitality. The fundamental goal of the revisions in the RNJB is not increased accuracy in conformity with the original text, or increased understanding in compliance with the Magisterium

and Tradition of the Church, but the imposition of a political agenda which in essence has nothing to do with the love of Truth.

There are a couple of different streams feeding into what is now called gender inclusivity, but used to be called feminism, and they are inconsistent. One is articulated in paragraph 1935 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it”. The Catechism then goes on to quote Gaudium et Spes: “Every form of social or cultural discrimination in fundamental personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, colour, social conditions, language or religion, must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God’s design”.

The fundamental point here is that because men and women have an ineradicable personal character as the image and likeness of God, the forms of unjust discrimination listed in the Gaudium et Spes paragraph are fundamentally

unacceptable. Therefore, unjust discrimination against women, as women, is unacceptable. Most people, Catholic or otherwise, agree with that, and that sense of goodwill in eradicating unjust forms of discrimination is what underpins much of the acceptance of gender inclusivity, broadly speaking. But this kind of thinking presumes that human nature, male and female, is a given thing: we can treat it with dignity, as it deserves, or we can abuse it, as the Nazis and Communists did, but we did not actually invent it ourselves: it was given to us by God. However, there is another, very different way of thinking which also uses the language of diversity and gender inclusion, which has its roots ultimately in the Will to Power of the 19th century philosopher, Nietzsche. According to this way of thinking, nothing is given –

Nietzsche rejected Christianity completely – and it is up to the individual to make his own “truth” in the chaos of the world. Goodness and truth are illusions; the only reality is power.

Therefore, all that we think of as natural is simply illusion: there is no nature, only political struggle.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that cannot be changed if one can only achieve enough power politically to do so: one can see where the terrible conflicts of the twentieth century had their roots. The problems that women have had are not due to injustice (because there is no justice), but to not having seized power. Therefore, power must be seized wherever possible, including power over the natural language of humanity – and this is where the RNJB comes in, with its deformation of the English language. The ideological agenda

THE NEW LECTIONARY 23 underpinning this grammatical distortion of the English language seeks to subject all of creation to a purely human political agenda, i.e., the elevation of the human will above all else, and the elimination of all natural difference. It is a fundamentally anti-Christian and Nietzschean political programme, and we should be deeply concerned that it has gained so much influence.

The Jerusalem Bible currently used as the basis for the scripture readings in our Lectionary has a distinguished literary pedigree: J R R Tolkien was among the writers who contributed to the composition of the English versions of the sacred texts. The RNJB is not beautiful, and destroys phrases which have become part of the heritage of anyone who speaks

It is not beautiful, because its goals are primarily ideology and politics rather than truth and beauty. There are students who have returned to the practice of the Faith, because the beauty of some passages in the Jerusalem Bible that they were using reminded them of passages they loved in Tolkien, and they were able to work it out from there. The young who are attracted to the Faith these days are drawn by beauty in many cases. If this ugly distorted translation is imposed on the Roman Catholic liturgy, such young people will be pushed towards the margins of the Church.

If the RNJB is to be used as the basis of a revised Lectionary this would violate the norms set out in the document Liturgiam Authenticam (On The Use Of Vernacular Languages In The Publication Of The Books Of The Roman Liturgy), promulgated by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in 2001, more specifically the following recommendation: “When the original text, for example, employs a single term in expressing the interplay between the individual

The RNJB does not follow such norms. A few examples will suffice to demonstrate what I have said here. I shall use the Jerusalem Bible (used in the current Lectionary) as a basis of comparison: Jerusalem Bible: Matthew 4:4: But he replied, ‘Scripture says: Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’.

Revised New Jerusalem Bible: Matthew 4:4: But he replied, ‘Scripture says: A human lives not on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’.

The RNJB is here clumsy and stupid. It is a departure from the great literary heritage of the English Language Jerusalem Bible: Matthew 16.25-26: For anyone

who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it. What, then, will a man gain if he wins the whole world and ruins his life? Or what has a man to offer in exchange for his life?

Revised New Jerusalem Bible: Anyone who wants to be a follower of mine must renounce self and take up the cross and follow me.

For whoever wants to save life will lose it; but whoever loses life for my sake will find it. How does it profit someone to gain the whole world and forfeit life? Or what could anyone give in exchange for life?

The RNJB is here very artificial, with an obvious attempt to avoid pronouns. The use of artificial pronouns like “someone” weakens the sense.

Jerusalem Bible: 1 John 5:5: Who can overcome the world? Only the man who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. Revised New Jerusalem Bible: Who can overcome the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

The language used here by the RNJB is barely grammatical English.

For these reasons: · inaccurate translations in places where gender inclusivity and gender neutrality are given priority over accurate rendition of the Word of God, · the creation of ugly, stilted and unedifying English text, which is off-putting to many finding their way back into the Church, and · violating the norms of Liturgiam Authenticam, it seems inadvisable that the bishops of Ireland should adopt the Revised New Jerusalem Bible as the basis for a revised Lectionary.

From Liturgiam Authenticam: 30. In many languages there exist nouns and pronouns denoting both genders, masculine and feminine, together in a single term. The

insistence that such a usage should be changed is not necessarily to be regarded as the effect or the manifestation of an authentic development of the language as such. Even if it may be necessary by means of catechesis to ensure that such words continue to be understood in the “inclusive” sense just described, it may not be possible to employ different words in the translations themselves without detriment to the precise intended meaning of the text, the correlation of its various words or expressions, or its aesthetic qualities.

When the original text, for example, employs a single term in

expressing the interplay between the individual and the universality and unity of the human family or community (such as the Hebrew word ’adam, the Greek anthropos, or the Latin homo), this property of the language of the original text should be maintained in the translation.

Just as has occurred at other times in history, the Church herself must freely decide upon the system of language that will serve her doctrinal mission most effectively, and should not be subject to externally imposed linguistic norms that are detrimental to that mission.

Controlling Language to Hide Sin J. Man

The good Sisters who taught me knew how to use language correctly.

One of my earliest teachers was a Franciscan Sister. As a first-grade teacher, she was very practical. I still remember several of her lessons in detail. She was exceptionally good at explaining things in ways a child could understand.

Once she talked about how the devil enjoys tricking people into sin.

She used the parallel of receiving a beautifully wrapped present, complete with ribbon and bow.

I vividly remember picturing a crimson foil wrapped box in my mind as she described the package. Once unwrapped, however, all one finds is a rotten apple, bruised, mouldy, and taut with the stench of decay.

Manipulating Language This lesson holds true in today’s modern world. The packaging may be different, but the comparison is identical.

Beverage cans and bottles display the number of fluid ounces. Ounces have a fixed definition that protects the consumer from being cheated.

The language is clear. But one must actually understand what ounces are.

Packaging Sin in Handsome Language Products are not the only thing being sold to us. Opinions, philosophies, and even sin are peddled to society.

In today’s world, every sin is packaged in very handsome language.

It seems the devil has enlisted the aid of the greatest marketing and public relations firms to transform the ugliness of mortal sin into language that sounds warm and welcoming.

After years of incremental creep, the meaning of words has changed.

In numerous cases, the narrative is entrenched so deeply that calling a sin by its rightful name has itself become a sin in the modern world.

One need not look far to find many examples.

Pro-Choice as a Case Study Do you know anyone against choice?

I don’t. No one is against choice.

Even God gives us a choice to follow Him or to deny Him. In today’s world, when someone says they are pro-choice, the language sets a tone of moral superiority. Choice is established as freedom given to us by God.

The language used is not by accident.

Businesses are deliberately trying to manipulate consumers to improve sales. Companies are selling ‘the perception of more’ masked in imaginative language.

But what does pro-choice mean? Does it mean you can choose to send your children to Catholic schools? No. Does it mean you can choose to get married and start a family? Again no.

Does it mean you can choose to put your baby up for adoption if you do not have the means to care the child?

Wrong again. Let us take another hot button topic. Does it mean you can choose to carry a firearm legally for sport or self-defence? Absolutely not! Of course, pro-choice really only applies to abortion. So, if it means only one choice, it’s really not choice at all.

O Jesus, it is for the love of Thee, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and for the conversion of poor sinners [that I do this]. Amen.

It should be no surprise that the one who first denied God has conspired in this world to mask the sin of murdering unborn children with the language of “choice.” This is no accident.

Gay as a Second Case Study Sometimes the definition of a word

When ordering drinks at a fast-food drive through, however, ounces are irrelevant. The common language is small, medium, and large. And some companies have even dispensed with small and only offer medium, large, and supersize. What does medium really mean? How many ounces is ‘large?’

is intentionally twisted to mean something it did not. The first time I heard the word gay was in the theme song of the Flintstones cartoon.

At the time, I did not know what it meant to “have a gay old time.”

My parents told me it meant happy, merry, keenly alive, exuberant. This is how the word was defined in their 1930’s era dictionaries.

During the last half of the 20th century, a swing occurred. My 1984 edition of Webster’s dictionary lists 3 definitions for the word gay. The first 2 definitions were about being happy or bright. The third definition listed was a single word – homosexual.

In today’s Merriam-Webster dictionary, the first definition reads, “of, relating to, or characterised by sexual or romantic attraction to people of one’s same sex.” The first meaning of “gay” has been redefined in the last 50 years.

The word Homosexual is very clear.

Gay, however, sounds much more positive and has displaced the former.

When looking closer at the current definition of gay, one finds that the word homosexual is completely omitted. If gay is the replacement word for homosexual, why not use it in the definition? The only reason can be to conceal its true nature.

4th June 2021 Catholic Voice Other Examples These are only two examples in a lengthy list. The whole contrived dispute of gender is ripe with illustrations.

Sometimes the manipulation of words is a bait and switch like replacing the phrase freedom of religion with freedom to worship. In this case, a similar sounding phrase was injected into public discourse with an intentionally different meaning.

Catholics can ‘worship’ as they wish, but don’t actually ‘practice’ the principles of your religion in the public square.

How does one combat this? One of the priests in my parish has often said that we must name our sins during confession and not be cowards hiding behind vague language.

This option is a possible approach when engaging others. We must be polite and loving without conceding to sin. Our mission is to extend a hand and pull people away from the fires of hell. Part of our challenge is to speak to them in a way in which they will want to reach back to us, to

grasp our hand, and leave sin behind them. This is difficult when someone is convinced that their actions are not sinful.

Politely Stating the True Definition I recently learned that a close friend’s son is homosexual. My friend has embraced the sin and vehemently defends this behaviour. Apparently he loves his son more than God. I did not bring this up, however, I would not affirm his position when pressed. I stated that I thought choosing homosexual behaviour was sinful. He was upset by this, and the fact that I used the word homosexual as opposed to gay or having pride. He said the word homosexual is insulting.

I told him I did not understand why. I am not insulted when someone says I am heterosexual. If he is proud of that behaviour then way not be proud of the word?

This very awkward discussion went on for over an hour. Fortunately, both of us remained calm. This was really a challenge, especially when he accused me of condoning the killing of homosexuals in muslin

That sparked a tangent discussion on adultery and the sacrament of marriage.

We are still friends, but I suspect that this topic will come up again. I am glad that I was blessed with calm because I believe I will have the opportunity to be a witness again. A shouting match would have ended any chance to witness Catholic teaching.

Uncomfortable Conversations Standing up for the Faith can be extremely uncomfortable. Keeping discussions polite without conceding can be difficult. Both are necessary, however, if the goal is to bring others to Christ. Such conversations are part of the spiritual works of mercy. It is our duty to admonish the sinner, instruct the ignorant, counsel the doubtful, bear wrongs patiently, forgive injuries, comfort the sorrowful, and pray for the living and the dead. Sometimes the trouble with our friends is not that they’re ignorant, it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.

Mary states she heard a voice from the throne that decreed all of these beautiful things about Our Lady: • She is the Queen of Angels • She is the Queen of Men • All hell fears her as its Supreme Empress and Mistress • She is given power over nature according to her will • She is the Empress and Mistress of the Militant Church, its Protectress, Advocate, Mother and Teacher • She is the special Patroness of Catholic countries • Whenever we call on her from our hearts, she has power to relieve and help us in our labours and necessities • She is the Defender of the just, she has power to comfort, console and fill them with blessings according to their devotion to her.
