In stark contrast a few weeks earlier 500 muslims gathered to celebrate Eid in Croke Park, this event was attended by the Archbishop of Dublin, he praised the muslim community for organising the celebration.

Why can the leaders of the muslim community organise a large public event but the Catholic bishops of Ireland cannot? Is it a question of faith, or lack of it?

The situation in Knock is just one example of the way in which our Catholic faith is being actively suppressed sometimes with the connivance and support of those who should be our shepherds.

The Catholic bishops of Ireland published a Framework Document for a return to the public celebration of Mass and the Sacraments.

The sentence in the guidelines that has caused widespread disappointment and dismay is as follows: “For the time being, it is recommended that Communion should not be given under both kinds, and should be received in the hand. …”.

Priests and parish councils across the country have imposed this restriction with great zeal, in some places kneeling is also forbidden at any time during Mass.

Now, medically speaking there is no more risk of transmission on the tongue than in the hand. And receiving the Blessed Sacrament kneeling is actually

Perhaps the bishops should publish the scientific advice they were given; they will not because there is none.

Or to America where Bishop DeGrood is changing his COVID-related order dispensing Catholics from their obligation to attend Sunday Mass, citing “pastoral concern for the souls entrusted to my spiritual care.”

His directives include notably lenient measures for celebrating Mass and gives parish priests wide discretion on their implementation.

According to DeGrood’s directives, masks are not mandated, Holy Communion can be received on the tongue, holy water may be restored in receptacles, priests and deacons are not to wear masks when distributing Holy Communion, pre-registration for Mass is no longer to be requested, the sign of the peace and passing the collection basket are discouraged, and the practice of “prudent and reasonable” social distancing and hygiene is encouraged.

For those Catholics “not at increased risk of severe illness, the Church has long recognised circumstances in which the faithful may be excused from Mass attendance even without a dispensation from the bishop,” DeGrood noted.

This is a bishop with faith and a bishop who cares for the needs of his flock.

Back to Ireland and given the depressing state of our Church, the temptation merely to give up in the face of the constant onslaught is real, but it is not to be yielded to. Though many of our bishops appear to have given up the good fight, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. The darkest hour is just before the dawn.

go with thee. He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” Deuteronomy XXXI, 6.

Let me end with an ancient blessing: “Go forth into the world in peace; be of good courage; hold fast that which is good; render to no man evil for evil; strengthen the fainthearted; support the weak; help the afflicted; honour all men; love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. And the Blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, be upon you and remain with you for ever. Amen.”

On The Truest Source of our Dignity Monsignor Charles Pope One of our deeper wounds is that we tend to doubt our dignity, especially in times of trouble. We look to human beings who are fickle for a sense of honour and prestige in our life. But St. Peter Chrysologus reminds us of the true source of our dignity, and that of others, in a homily in last week’s office: “A virgin conceived, bore a son, and yet remained a virgin…. for [God] is the cause, and not nature…Christ’s birth was not necessity, but an expression of omnipotence, a sacrament of piety for the redemption of men...That the Creator is in his creature and God is in the flesh brings dignity to man without dishonour to him who made

him.

Why then, man, are you so worthless in your own eyes and yet so precious to God? Why render yourself such dishonour when you are honoured by him? Why do you ask how you were created and do not seek to know why you were made? Was not this entire visible universe made for your dwelling? It was for you that the light dispelled the overshadowing gloom; for your sake was the night regulated and the day measured, and for you were the heavens embellished with the varying brilliance of the sun, the moon and the stars. The earth was adorned with flowers, groves and fruit; and the constant

marvellous variety of lovely living things was created in the air, the fields, and the seas for you, lest sad solitude destroy the joy of God’s new creation. And the Creator still works to devise things that can add to your glory. He has made you in his image that you might in your person make the invisible Creator present on earth. Yes, God is the true source of our honour. Before we were ever formed in our mother’s womb God thought about us and prepared for

4 HUMAN DIGNITY us and did what ever was necessary to bringing us into being (Jer 1:5).

Yes, God knowing all about us, our foibles and sins, our gifts and blessings, created us as a free act of love. Human life and the human person are sacred since they are this free and loving act of God who bestows life upon us, not of necessity but simply out of love.

And thus Chrysologus asks, “Why then, man, are you so worthless in your own eyes and yet so precious to God? Why render yourself such dishonour when you are honoured by him?”

And for all of us together comes this additional dignity, that this whole universe and world was made for us! Modern environmental extremists see man as an interloper in this world, or even worse like some plague of locusts that must be

destroyed. But the Scriptures and the Christian vision see that whole universe exists just as it does in a delicate and perfect balance so that on this rare earth, life as we know it, and indeed our very life would be able to exist. God carefully, and in stages guided the emergence of life here, culminating with the Human Person. The second story of creation has God creating Adam first and then designing everything around him and for him, and later for Eve. And thus, speaking from this tradition Peter Chrysologus says, “Was not this entire visible universe made for your dwelling? And finally, our greatest dignity of all was that our Saviour and very Lord chose to become one of us though his Incarnation, humbling himself to elevate us.

Can you really doubt your dignity and worth? Why do we look to lesser sources to assess our worth.

Money, popularity, power, and so forth come and go and cannot be valid or lasting sources of our dignity. Look to God, and never forget the efforts and stages he carefully went about to make you.

Dwell in his love for you.

“And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them.

And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth”. (Genesis 1:27-28)

Saint Bartholomew

Canon Joseph Heppelle I.C.K.S.P. During the month of August we celebrate the feast of one of the least known apostles, yet he is a saint with one of the most macabre attributes, his own flayed skin.

The saint, of course, is Saint Bartholomew.

In the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) Saint Bartholomew is only mentioned by name and no further details of his life or personality are given. Saint John does not mention him by name at all, but he does say a good deal about the calling of a certain Nathaniel, whom tradition has long identified with Bartholomew.

In part this identification stems from the fact that Saint John associates Nathaniel with Saint Philip as the Synoptic evangelists associate Bartholomew with Saint Philip. Furthermore, the name Bartholomew is highly unlikely to be this saint’s first name, as in Hebrew it literally means “son of Tholmai.” It would be as strange as an Irishman sporting a given name of, for example: O’Toole.

What is certain is that in the Gospel according to John, Saint Philip first told Nathaniel of Christ: “We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets did write, Jesus the son of Joseph of Nazareth.” (John.

1:45) To which, Nathaniel responded: “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” (John. 1:46) At first glance this response seems derogatory. The fact that Nathanael accepts Philip’s invitation to “come and see,” and our Lord’s own words that he is an “Israelite in whom there is no guile” (John. 1:47) shows, however, that his scepticism, unlike that of the Sadducees and Pharisees, was not motivated by pride. The words of our Lord surprises Nathaniel who wonders how this Rabbi could know him. Jesus answers: “before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree I saw you.” (John. 1:48) We do not know what happened to Nathaniel under that fig tree, but as Pope Benedict XVI says, it is “obvious that it had to do with a decisive moment in his life.”

(General Audience 4 Oct 2006) Saint Thomas Aquinas, in his commentary on John’s Gospel points out that there are two ways of conversion.

One is through miracles, and the other is through prophecy or the revealing hidden things. Miracles have the disadvantage, however, that the evil one can often simulate them, whereas only God can reveal secrets be they hidden in the future, or in the heart of man.

Nathaniel recognised that only God could have known what happened in his heart under that fig tree, and so from this moment on, he places all his trust in Jesus of Nazareth, exclaiming: “You are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel.” (John 1:49) There is an important lesson for us in the calling of Nathaniel. It is good to be a little “skeptical” at times.

We must not believe everything just anyone happens to tell us, especially in matters of religion. As our Lord warns us in the Gospel: “there shall arise false Christs and false prophets…If therefore they shall say to you, Behold he is in the desert: go ye not out. Behold he is in the closets: believe it not.” (Matthew 24:24,26) We do have one advantage over the Apostles and Jews of the Old Testament. God has already given us His Word, Jesus Christ, and He has no other Word. So we are

not waiting for a further revelation to complete the Bible. We already have all that we need to know to be saved. We can be certain, therefore, that any would be visionary who says otherwise is either a fake, or deceived by the devil.

Little is known of Saint Bartholomew’s life after the Ascension. The Apostles had received the command from our Lord to preach to the ends of the earth. Saint Bartholomew is one of the Apostles who went beyond the borders of the Roman Empire to do just that. According to legend he preached the Gospel in various places of the Middle East and even to India. The Catholic Encyclopaedia (1907 edition) notes, however, that “India” was a broad term that could cover a wide area from Southern Arabia to India proper. Tradition holds that this apostle was martyred in Armenia, where the he had baptised a local king. The king’s brother, and his pagan priests, however, were not pleased with this turn of events, and so they put the saint to death in the particularly gruesome manner of flaying him alive. The king’s fate is unknown.

Thus, Saint Bartholomew’s attributes are the flaying knives and his own skin. He is often depicted holding his skin in his hand (even if “another skin” covers his body).

Michelangelo painted him in this way, in the famous Last Judgement scene in the Sistine chapel where the renaissance artist left his own self portrait in the skin of Saint Bartholomew. This apostle’s other attribute is a book, or a scroll in Eastern Icons. This probably refers

to Saint Matthew’s Gospel which the early Church historian Eusebius of Caesarea said Saint Bartholomew had taken with him to India.

As our world descends ever more into its new paganism we christians could do with some more of the zeal which drove the apostles to carry our Lord’s name to the ends of the earth. Let us ask Saint Bartholomew to intercede for us that we may live according to the Faith and do what we can to draw our neighbours to the knowledge and love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We Speak The Truth With Charity And Let The Consequences Come Fr. Bill Peckman

Two names have been on the forefront of my mind in the past few days: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Clemens Von Galen. Both were churchmen during the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany. Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran minister and Von Galen was the Catholic Bishop of Munster in Germany. Both saw a bad moon rising which would both destroy their homeland and would turn their homeland into a geographical serial killer which would be awash in blood. Both were despondent at the silence or complicity of their brother clerics in the face of National Socialism. Both took very public and dangerous stands against Hitler, knowing it could very well cost them everything. Von Galen knew that Hitler very much intended to do to the Catholic Church what he had done to the Jewish population. Bonhoeffer knew that were Lutheranism allowed to exist at all, it would a puppet of the state. Both figured it was better to die a free man than live a long life in cowardice or complicity. Bonhoeffer was one of the last executions ordered by Hitler as the Soviet Army neared the bunker.

Von Galen died soon after WWII was over, having seen his worst fears about his country realised.

I can’t help but feel that with recent unrest and antiCatholic sentiment that one day the clergy of America and Western Europe will be at the same crossroads.

It could be argued that we are already there and have been for some time. Since the sexual revolution and all that came with it, from abortion to birth control to most every conceivable abuse of human sexuality, our clergy has fallen into three camps: silence, complicity, and courage. When we look at the devastation that happened within the Church with the sexual scandals and cover ups, we can see how silence and complicity are little more than tools of the devil. When we see the public Catholic voice more and more indistinguishable from the secular voice, we again see the devastation rendered by the silent and complicit. Such silence and complicity are a major contributory factor in the terminal illness we see the Church undergoing in the West.

For more than a few years, I have written with all due charity to try to insert how the love of God is the true answer to what ails us. I know many columns could very well be used against me were an authoritarian

state to rise. I have had the same attitude as Bonhoeffer and Van Galen (though I dare not put my writings as remotely equal to such giants) in that we speak the truth with charity and let the consequences come.

The prophet Jeremiah lays heavy on me as well. He was given the task of calling back the people of Judah from the brink of disaster and the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem. The people would not listen: not the king, not the priests, not the Levites, nor the people.

No one, save Jeremiah, challenged the infidelity of Judah as they worshipped idols. The complicit and cowardly priests and Levites persecuted him. As did the royal court. Jeremiah persists because God wanted the people to be saved. As we hear in 1st Reading from today’s Scriptures, the consequence inevitably comes and Jerusalem and the Temple are destroyed.

Those who carry on the prophetic message must do so because they know that the current course leads to destruction. To be a Jeremiah, a Bonhoeffer, or a Von Galen requires a deep love for God and for one’s flock and a desperate desire to not see that flock destroyed even as they skip happily and unwittingly to their own destruction.

Parents, you have such a call within your homes. Will you call your children to silence, complicity, or courage?

Pastors of souls, we have the same question placed before us. Assuredly we run the risk of persecution and suffering for adhering to the truth, but is not better to live shortly as a free person than live long as a slave to the passions and to authoritarianism? How will history judge us? How will God judge us?

wholly new. They will discover it as a hope that is meant for them, an answer for which they have always been searching in secret.

And so it seems certain to me that the Church is facing very hard times. The real crisis has scarcely begun.

We will have to count on terrific upheavals. But I am equally certain about what will remain at the end: not the Church of the political cult, which is dead already, but the Church of faith. She may well no longer be the dominant social power to the extent that she was until recently; but she will enjoy a fresh blossoming and be seen as man’s home, where he will find life and hope beyond death.

Bishop Doran, last year, blamed Catholics, who try to follow Christ, for the murder of Muslims in New Zealand. Last April, we had Catholics in Ballyhaunis excluded from Mass, whilst Muslims were invited, during Mass, that is Christ’s Sacrifice on Calvary –– to pray, but their prayer was a blas-phemy of Christ’s Sacrifice. Muslims would never, under any circumstances, attend Easter or Christmas celebrations.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin said it was an honour to be part of the celebration. This is a religion that denies the Divinity of Christ, denies the Cross and aims to eradicate Christianity, either by conver-sion killing.

By confirming Muslims in their false faith, Archbishop Martin is denying them the grace of the True Faith.

Not only are Catholics not getting sound teaching, but there is an attempt at taking the One True Faith from them. That should not be surprising. As the Church was founded by Christ, Satan is at-tacking it, with all his ferocity.

It is sad that the only ones acknowledging Christ as our only Saviour are Protestants, especial-ly Evangelicals, whilst those with the fullness of Christ’s teaching, and the Grace of the Sacra-ments, are silent.

failed by their advocacy and pushing for the culture of Death in recent times, to mirror Hume’s legacy show their contempt to his memory by their sacrilegious communions at the Requiem Mass and offering a pretence of being faithful members with their reflective signs of the cross and meditations. These hands that had received the Holy Sacrament were the same hands that no doubt punched the air and clapped with the recent referenda results and the Westminster usurpation of their notorious abortion law.

This funeral was not just a Requiem for a life lived in the truth and light of the Gospel, but was equally the final extinction of any pretence that constitutional nationalism has any links to the Catholicism of John Hume’s that was the effective compass to his greatness in this world and his eternal happiness, hopefully in the next!

The Mind Controllers Are After Your Children Part 4 - John Lacken Please pause for one moment and offer up one Ave for our bishops.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen I was not a fan of history when I was in school and I remember my father trying to convince me of the importance of history and of the lessons to be learned therein. I now appreciate my father’s wisdom but unfortunately, whilst I now find certain historical topics to be of great interest, I have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to historical matters.

This is by way of introduction to something that I came across very recently when researching for my article, which I find very interesting when one considers the great disrespect that is currently being shown to Jesus Christ, truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist.

This disrespect for Jesus is said to be acceptable, on account of the corona virus.

In 1863, Thomas Walter Perry who was assistant curate at the Church of England church, St Michael and all the Angels, in Brighton, wrote a letter in book format with the following hefty title.

“Some Historical Considerations Relating To The Declaration On Kneeling, Appended To The Communion Office of the English Book of Common Prayer” This unusual title caught my attention, given that the norm for

receiving Holy Communion in the Catholic Church is on the tongue whilst kneeling.

The declaration in question is from the second edition of Thomas Cranmer’s ‘Book of Common Prayer’ and dates from 1552. It was translated into modern English in 1662 and it reads as follows in the latter translation.

“Whereas it is ordained in this Office for the administration of the Lord’s Supper, that the Communicants should receive the same kneeling; (which Order is well meant, for a signification of our humble and grateful acknowledgement of the benefits of Christ therein given to all worthy Receivers, and for the avoiding of such profanation, and disorder in the Holy Communion, as might otherwise ensue;)” To avoid any confusion amongst these protestants as to belief in the real presence, the declaration continues: “Yet, lest the same kneeling should by any persons, either out of ignorance and infirmity, or out of malice and obstinacy, be misconstrued and depraved; it is here declared, that thereby no Adoration is intended, or ought to be done, either, unto the Sacramental bread or wine, there bodily received, or unto any corporal presence of Christ’s natural Flesh and Blood.

For the Sacramental bread and wine remain still in their very natural substances, and therefore may not be adored: (for that were idolatry to be abhorred of all faithful Christians;) and the natural Body

and Blood of our Saviour Christ are in heaven, and not here; it being against the truth of Christ’s natural Body to be at one time in more places than one.”

It is quite astonishing that these early English protestants would kneel to receive what they believed to be symbolic, unconsecrated bread and wine, out of reverence for Christ and to avoid ‘profanation and disorder in the Holy Communion” More astonishing still, is the fact that our own bishops, contrary to the Canon Law of the Catholic Church, now seek to make Holy Communion in the hand mandatory for Catholics, whilst at the same time declaring that they believe that Jesus Christ is truly present, Body Blood, Soul and Divinity. In many of our Catholic Churches, the clergy are also insisting that Catholics stand to receive Jesus Christ.

In his book ‘Characters of the Reformation’, Hillaire Belloc tells us the following about Thomas Cranmer.

“Cranmer was never more than an agent though a willing agent — even in his heart of hearts an enthusiastic agent: a man who hated the Catholic Church and the Sacraments and in especial the Sacrament of the Altar and the Mass.”

Cranmer was a forerunner of today’s ‘mind controllers’, gently leading the people away from the Catholic Church all the while maintaining and creating a false piety and devotion to error.

In this regard Hillaire Belloc also tells us:

“Cranmer had great artistic power. He could frame a sentence of rhythmical and exquisitely beautiful English as no man has been able to do before or since. It is to him that the Anglican Church owes those prayers, “The English Prayerbook”, the diction and language of which have given it its strong hold upon the national mind.

The Litany of the English Church is his — ­a wonderful document as far as artistry is concerned; presumably most of the Collects, the translation of the Prefaces of the Mass incorporated into the English service, and many other Catholic prayers similarly incorporated.

His unique talent was not recognized in his lifetime; its effect upon men’s minds came much later; the strong affection which the average Englishman feels for the Book of Common Prayer and its fine phrases dates, not from Cranmer’s century but from the next. It is often the case with great artists in prose and verse; they need time to manifest their gifts and these are not apparent until long after they are dead.”

Thomas Cranmer was used as an agent of the civil authority of his time in order to bring about the destruction of Catholic worship in England. Today, in Ireland and elsewhere in the world, the civil authorities are using an alleged health crisis, Covid-19, to change the rubrics of the Catholic Mass and to dictate to our bishops the method and manner of distributing and receiving Holy Communion.

The state has no authority to dictate how the Sacraments of the Catholic church are celebrated and yet our bishops comply without question.

I spoke with one lay Church manager recently, who told me that our Catholic churches would be shut down by the government if they do not comply with government directives.

I tried to explain that this was exactly the case for all of our Irish martyrs; they were faced with the choice of obeying the Catholic Church or obeying state directives.

They were martyred because they refused to obey the state authorities.

Our first duty is to worship and to obey God rather than obey the dictates of men especially when the dictates dishonour Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist.

The end result of this capitulation to unjust government directives will be to further undermine belief in the Real Presence or Transubstantiation, and there will be a further falling away of baptised Catholics from the practice of the faith and, attendance at Holy Mass will continue to decline.

The Council of Trent, in its thirteenth session declared as follows: “On Transubstantiation.

And because that Christ, our Redeemer, declared that which He offered under the species of bread to be truly His own body, therefore has it ever been a firm belief in the Church of God, and this holy Synod doth now declare it anew,

that, by the consecration of the bread and of the wine, a conversion is made of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord, and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of His blood; which conversion is, by the holy Catholic Church, suitably and properly called Transubstantiation.”

Given this declaration, it is then obvious that we must adore Christ truly present in the Eucharist. The Council of Trent continues.

On the cult and veneration to be shown to this most holy Sacrament.

Wherefore, there is no room left for doubt, that all the faithful of Christ may, according to the custom ever received in the Catholic Church, render in veneration the worship of latria, which is due to the true God, to this most holy sacrament.

For not therefore is it the less to be adored on this account, that it was instituted by Christ, the Lord, in order to be received: for we believe that same God to be present therein, of whom the eternal Father, when introducing him into the world, says; And let all the angels of God adore him; whom the Magi falling down, adored; who, in fine, as the

Scripture testifies, was adored by the apostles in Galilee.” (Council of Trent - Session XIII - Chapter V)

damnation if they do not repent of their gravely sinful actions before their deaths.

It is very hurtful and distressing for faithful Catholics to have to witness the recent widespread public abuses of Jesus Christ in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Priests and laity wearing face-masks, whilst receiving and distributing Jesus Christ. Laity being told to exit the church immediately after taking Jesus Christ into their hands. Proabortion politicians being publicly handed Jesus Christ into their hands even though they advocate the killing of the least of Christ’s brethren.

In a recent interview on American FOX news, Cardinal Burke explained that refusing these politicians Holy Communion is “not a punishment. It’s actually a favour to these people to tell them don’t approach, because if they approach, they commit sacrilege.”

Back in 2013, Catholic Voice reported the words of Cardinal Burke, when he said that Irish politicians who continue to publicly support abortion should be refused Holy Communion if they continue such support after a warning.

Yet several politicians, who voted for Ireland’s newest abortion laws, which have directly resulted in the deaths of over 6,500 innocent human beings, were given Holy Communion at the recent funeral Mass of the politician John Hume, may he rest in peace.

The stern warning of Jesus in chapter ten of St Matthew’s Gospel comes to mind when one witnesses our Irish bishops remaining silent whilst Jesus Christ is being dreadfully abused in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.

“Every one therefore that shall confess me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven. But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven.”

(Matthew 10:32-33) We really need to increase our prayers for our bishops, to make acts of reparation for these abuses, and to ask God to send us at least

28th August 2020 one courageous shepherd who will not be afraid to speak the truth and to defend the honour and person of Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist I had hoped to finish my recent series of articles with this article, however, the sacrilegious events that took place at John Hume’s funeral had to be addressed and so I will not cover all I wanted to cover this time. These articles have looked at how Irish people are being manipulated and at how an elite group of people are using ‘mind control’ techniques to very successfully destroy the influence of Catholic Church teaching in our society.

Our government leaders and other very well funded groups, are also promoting child sexual abuse into our Catholic schools through the early sexualisation of children and through encouraging overtly sexual activity to very young children.

So, what are sincere Catholics, especially Catholic parents to do?

That is the big question.

It is important that we do not allow ourselves to become overwhelmed

This is a grave public sacrilege, and the fact that both the priest and the abortion supporting politicians were social distancing whilst wearing face-masks will not do anything to lessen the wrath of God come the day of judgement for this offensive behaviour towards Jesus Christ.

We must remember that we are members of the Church Militant.

We are fighters. Nobody said that being a Catholic was going to be easy. Our Lord Himself tells us that we must take up our cross every day. These are the times that Jesus Christ has allotted to us for us to do His Holy Will. We must go into training for the battle that lies ahead of us.

The first thing we must do is to Pray, because we need God’s help.

Remember, when Christ told the apostles how hard it is for the rich man to enter heaven? The apostles were astounded and asked “Who then can be saved? And Jesus beholding, said to them: With men this is impossible: but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:25-26) The task that faces us in an impossible task for us mere men to accomplish. We cannot do it

without God’s help, and therefore we must get our Prayer lives and our spiritual lives in order. This is especially true for those of us who are fathers and husbands, because we are the spiritual heads of our families.

St Paul tells us, “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.”

(Ephesians 6:12) St Paul then tells us what we must do.

“Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect.”

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice, And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace:

Pope Pius XII - Munificentissimus Deus [The following extracts are taken from Pope Pius XII’s ex cathedra declaration on the Assumption of Our Lady. It is a good practice for Catholics to familiarise themselves with such documents as these as they are rich sources of encouragement in difficult times.]

The most bountiful God, who is almighty, the plan of whose providence rests upon wisdom and love, tempers, in the secret purpose of his own mind, the sorrows of peoples and of individual men by means of joys that he interposes in their lives from time to time, in such a way that, under different conditions and in different ways, “all things may work together unto good for those who love him”.(Romans 8:28) Now, just like the present age, our pontificate is weighed down by ever so many cares, anxieties, and troubles, by reason of very severe calamities that have taken place and by reason of the fact that many have strayed away from truth and virtue. Nevertheless, we are greatly consoled to see that, while the Catholic faith is being professed publicly and vigorously, piety toward the Virgin Mother of God is flourishing and daily growing more fervent, and that almost everywhere on earth it is showing indications of a better and holier life. Thus, while the Blessed Virgin is fulfilling in the most affectionate manner her maternal duties on behalf of those redeemed by the blood of Christ, the minds and the hearts of her children are being vigorously aroused to a more assiduous consideration of her prerogatives.

Actually God, who from all eternity regards Mary with a most favorable and unique affection, has “when the fullness of time came” (Galatians 4:4) put the plan of his providence into effect in such a way that all the privileges and prerogatives he had granted to her in his sovereign generosity were to shine forth in her in a kind of perfect harmony. And, although the Church has always recognized this supreme generosity and the perfect harmony of graces and has daily studied them more and more throughout the course of the centuries, still it is in our own age that the privilege of the bodily Assumption into heaven of Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, has certainly shone forth more clearly.

That privilege has shone forth in new radiance since our predecessor of immortal memory, Pope Pius IX, solemnly proclaimed the dogma of the loving Mother of God’s Immaculate Conception. These two privileges are most closely bound to one another. Christ overcame sin and death by his own death, and one who through

Baptism has been born again in a supernatural way has conquered sin and death through the same Christ.

Yet, according to the general rule, God does not will to grant to the just the full effect of the victory over death until the end of time has come. And so it is that the bodies of even the just are corrupted after death, and only on the last day will they be joined, each to its own glorious soul.

Now God has willed that the Blessed Virgin Mary should be exempted from this general rule. She, by an entirely unique privilege, completely overcame s i n b y h e r I m m a c u l a t e Conception, and as a result she was not subject to the law of remaining in the corruption of the grave, and she did not have to wait until the end of time for the redemption of her body.

Thus, when it was solemnly proclaimed that Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, was from the very beginning free from the taint of original sin, the minds of the faithful were filled with a stronger hope that the day might soon come when the dogma of the Virgin Mary’s bodily Assumption into heaven would also be defined by the Church’s supreme teaching authority...

Christ’s faithful, through the teaching and the leadership of their pastors, have learned from the sacred books that the Virgin Mary, throughout the course of her earthly pilgrimage, led a life troubled by cares, hardships, and sorrows, and that, moreover, what the holy old man Simeon had foretold actually came to pass, that is, that a terribly sharp sword pierced her heart as she stood under the cross of her divine Son, our Redeemer. In the same way, it was not difficult for them to admit that the great Mother of God, like her only begotten Son, had actually passed from this life. But this in no way prevented them from believing and from professing openly that her sacred body had never been subject to the corruption of the tomb, and that the august tabernacle of the Divine Word had never been reduced to dust and ashes. Actually, enlightened by divine grace and moved by affection for her, God’s Mother and our own dearest Mother, they have contemplated in an ever clearer light the wonderful harmony and order of those privileges which the most provident God has lavished upon this loving associate of our Redeemer, privileges which reach such an exalted plane that, except for her, nothing created by God other than the human nature of Jesus Christ has ever reached this level.

THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY 17

Defining the Dogma of the Assumption The innumerable temples which have been dedicated to the Virgin Mary assumed into heaven clearly attest this faith. So do those sacred images, exposed therein for the veneration of the faithful, which bring this unique triumph of the Blessed Virgin before the eyes of all men. Moreover, cities, dioceses, and individual regions have been placed under the special patronage and guardianship of the Virgin Mother of God assumed into heaven. In the same way, religious institutes, with the approval of the Church, have been founded and have taken their name from this privilege. Nor can we pass over in silence the fact that in the Rosary of Mary, the recitation of which this Apostolic See so urgently recommends, there is one mystery proposed for pious meditation which, as all know, deals with the Blessed Virgin’s Assumption into heaven.

This belief of the sacred pastors and of Christ’s faithful is universally manifested still more splendidly by the fact that, since ancient times, there have been both in the East and in the West solemn liturgical offices commemorating this privilege. The holy Fathers and Doctors of the Church have never failed to draw enlightenment from this fact since, as everyone knows, the sacred liturgy, “because it is the profession, subject to the supreme teaching authority within the Church, of heavenly truths, can supply proofs and testimonies of no small value for deciding a particular point of Christian doctrine.”(Mediator Dei 48)...

The fact that the Apostolic See, which has inherited the function entrusted to the Prince of the Apostles, the function of “confirming the brethren in the faith”, (Luke 22:32) has by its own authority, made the celebration of this feast ever more solemn, has certainly and effectively moved the attentive minds of the faithful to appreciate always more completely the magnitude of the mystery it commemorates. So it was that the Feast of the Assumption was elevated from the rank which it had occupied from the beginning among the other Marian feasts to be classed among the more solemn celebrations of the entire liturgical cycle...

We, who have placed our pontificate under the special patronage of the most holy Virgin, to whom we have had recourse so often in times of grave trouble, we who have consecrated the entire human race to her Immaculate Heart in public ceremonies, and who have time and time again experienced her powerful protection, are confident that this solemn proclamation

and definition of the Assumption will contribute in no small way to the advantage of human society, since it redounds to the glory of the Most Blessed Trinity, to which the Blessed Mother of God is bound by such singular bonds. It is to be hoped that all the faithful will be stirred up to a stronger piety toward their heavenly Mother, and that the souls of all those who glory in the Christian name may be moved by the desire of sharing in the unity of Jesus Christ’s Mystical Body and of increasing their love for her who shows her motherly heart to all the members of this august body.

And so we may hope that those who meditate upon the glorious example Mary offers us may be more and more convinced of the value of a human life entirely devoted to carrying out the heavenly Father’s will and to bringing good to others.

Thus, while the illusory teachings of materialism and the corruption of morals that follows from these teachings threaten to extinguish the light of virtue and to ruin the lives of men by exciting discord among them, in this magnificent way all may see clearly to what a lofty goal our bodies and souls are destined.

Finally it is our hope that belief in Mary’s bodily Assumption into heaven will make our belief in our own resurrection stronger and render it more effective.

We rejoice greatly that this solemn event falls, according to the design of God’s providence, during this Holy Year, so that we are able, while the great Jubilee is being observed, to adorn the brow of God’s Virgin Mother with this brilliant gem, and to leave a monument more enduring than bronze of our own most fervent love for the Mother of God. For which reason, after we have poured forth prayers of supplication again and again to God, and have invoked the light of the Spirit of Truth, for the glory of Almighty God who has lavished his special affection upon the Virgin Mary, for the honor of her Son, the immortal King of the Ages and the Victor over sin and death, for the increase of the glory of that same august Mother, and for the joy and exultation of the entire Church; by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own authority, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.

Marxism And Fascism Are United In Bible-Burning Christopher Monckton of Brenchley

Here is some news carefully censored by the unspeakable BBC and RTE, whose far-out Left reporters have not asked many questions about who is really behind the urban terrorist organization “Black Lives Matter” that is violently setting cities such as Portland, Oregon, ablaze.

This vicious organisation of thugs and racketeers, who now threaten to set fire to businesses that fail to pay then protection money, is run by a woman who describes herself as a “trained Marxist”. She is in fact a Fascist, for Marxism and Fascism have now become united against liberty, democracy and Christianity.

Recently it was reported on Twitter that the “Black Lives Matter” terrorists in Portland had been gathering a pile of Bibles and had set them on fire. Book-burning was what Hitler’s Fascists used to do in the 1930s. Burning Bibles can scarcely be described as a legitimate activity intended to further the cause of America’s black population: indeed, it is calculated to do the reverse by exposing the barbarian methods that the Marxists and Fascists are now willing publicly to espouse. Why, then, was it done?

The reason is that “Black Lives Matter” does not believe, not even for a single instant, that Black lives matter. It is a purely nihilistic gangster cult, dedicated to the destruction of what it calls “capitalism” and “white privilege” and suchlike epithets. It is not in any way dedicated to any constructive purpose whatsoever. It exploits black people.

It wants to de-fund and destroy the police, so that, like all the Marxist terrorists of the bad old days, it can set up its own system of brutal,

organised injustice, and profiteer therefrom.

The thick-as-two-short-planks footballers who have been publicly genuflecting in pathetic, virtuesignalling solidarity with this burgeoning and lavishly-funded terrorist movement simply have no idea what it is that they are supporting.

Here, then, is a list of questions that anyone thinking of supporting “Black Lives Matter” should ask the extremists who support this gruesome movement. And, whatever you do, don’t give them a single penny.

1. Why don’t Christian lives matter to you? Given that Christianity has opposed exploitation of one race by another for centuries, what purpose is served by setting Bibles on fire in the street, other than to show your support for Marx’s untutored opinion that “religion is the opium of the people”?

2. Why are you not also burning Karl Marx’s books? For he, unlike the Lord of Life, was a racist and wrote several repellently, openly anti-Semitic works.

3. Why don’t Yellow Lives Matter?

Before The Second Vatican Council Did Ordinary Catholics Understand The Liturgy?

No-one disputes the fact that great devotion to Holy Mass existed in Ireland in the years before the Second Vatican Council and the subsequent changes to liturgical practice that were introduced in its wake. However the assertion is often made that for the ordinary Catholic, this devotion was mixed up with exercises that were for the most part, out of line with the rubrics of Mass.

For example, the reciting of the rosary during Mass is often cited as the reason the people didn’t understand the real meaning of the liturgy. But is this true? When we read accounts of how people behaved during Mass, or hear about it – as this is of course still within living memory – it is evident that they did understand what was happening. In fact “ordinary Catholics” gave their full conscious participation in a manner seldom seen today.

The devotion of Irish people can be understood in the light that they knew that the paschal mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ was present every time they went to Mass. Many people had prayer books where they could follow the Mass, as the Latin was printed on one side and the English on the opposite page. Others recited the rosary quietly but the altar was always the focus of attention.

The rosary, far from being a mindless repetition of the Hail Mary, is a deeply contemplative

This is no way detracted from the meaning of the Mass because more than a simple devotional prayer, the entire mystery of redemption is commemorated in the rosary.

The living faith of the Irish people is preserved in poetry and other writings. Patrick Pearse recounts how he witnessed a woman in Moycullen, County Galway immersed in the passion of Jesus as she whispered her rosary during Mass. “I heard nothing more exquisite than her low sobbing narrative. There was great horror in her voice. She cried bitterly and struck her breast several times during the recitation. It was a very precious thing for the world that in the homes of Ireland there are still men and women who can shed tears for the sorrows of Mary and her Son.”

Liturgical experts might object.

Is this not an example of the sentimentality and spontaneity that should not be permitted during the Church’s solemn liturgy? Surely this is a sort of an abuse, albeit an innocent one?

We can attempt to answer this by understanding that although without doubt an intense emotion was being expressed, it was emotion strictly kept in check by the rubrics of the Mass. For the most time, the atmosphere was one of quiet prayerful attention.

The Latin responses were made by the altar servers on behalf of the congregation. It certainly was not the case that the people were silent spectators, as is now often claimed.

In the view of liturgical experts, the rosary was a distraction and it enclosed individual people in their own private world, far removed from the liturgy. In fact, quite the opposite was the case. Unity

was preserved because all those attending Mass were focussed together with the priest, on the sacred mysteries being enacted on the altar.

Father Benedict Langton, on the roots of Irish spirituality, claims the rosary was “the chain of the soul.” This was the means by which our ancestors believed they were connected to their divine Lord through his Blessed Mother.

In The Spirit of the Liturgy, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI commented on the awesome moments of the silent canon of the Mass, when priest and people together were totally absorbed in the Lord. The people were not saying the same words as the priest but their hearts and minds were in union with him .Even when men and women had neither prayer book nor missal in the Irish which was the only language many knew, in their minds they were in tune with the paschal mystery. They lamented the Lord’s passion and rejoiced in his Resurrection. In company with Our Blessed Lady, they assisted at Mass as they passed the beads through their hands.

In this way, our ancestors were in harmony with the heart of the Church who is always mindful of the sacred Passion of Christ, his Resurrection from the dead and his glorious Ascension into heaven.

Irish men and women in the past knew the holy sacrifice brought the living Jesus into their midst. Their faith and joy overflowed when the second bell rang at the Consecration and the chalice was lifted up. They greeted the Lord in their own words: Fáilte romhat a Shlanuightheor Íosa Chríost. (Welcome to you, our Saviour Jesus Christ.)

In 1961 a report written by a visitor to Ireland appeared in the Irish Rosary publication telling how the

people of Achill in County Mayo participated in Mass. “I found myself watching with intense interest the congregation coming in. There were bent old men who tramped in, their heavy boots shaking the floor, and women wearing thick cloaks, their heads covered with heavy shawls. The church was packed and never before or since have I seen or heard such devotion and fervour. The congregation attended Mass in every sense of the word, making responses aloud and at the Consecration, there was such a cry of welcome Céad mile fáilte, a Thighearna! ( A hundred thousand welcomes Lord!) that the tears came to my eyes.”

For the greater part of the 18th century, all bishops and priests were fugitives. When eventually the Penal Law was repealed and Catholic Emancipation came into force in 1829, it became possible for Catholics to attend Mass openly. Poverty however, meant they lacked the resources to build churches for some considerable time. Nevertheless, the people’s faith through all their trials was enhanced, rather than diminished,

THE ‘OLD’ LITURGY 21 even in the face of famine and destitution. When we look at the l9th and early to mid-20th centuries we see the people of Ireland practising their faith with deep commitment. We might be surprised to find how much “full, active and conscious participation” there actually was. That is, if we understand participation as of the mind, the heart, the will. Let us give our ancestors the respect of reading some accounts of how Mass was celebrated in the years up to the beginning of the Second Vatican Council.

“Pray, Pray, Pray” Exorcist Unmasks Satan’s Open Spiritual Warfare Msgr. Stephen Rosetti

God usually keeps Satan on a tight chain. His power and actions are limited.

However, in this time, it appears that the Prince of this World has been almost completely unleashed. It used to be that Satan did his evil in a hidden way. Now, it is open warfare.

Holy statues are pulled down; sacred images are being desecrated. Religion is being mocked and God’s laws are rejected. One of the strongest signs of Satan’s presence is a hatred for the Catholic Church. Churches are burning.

Another strong sign of Satan’s presence is discord, violence and death. We see these everywhere. The increasing civil discord has erupted into open conflict in many countries.

Some weeks ago, one of our specially gifted persons said, “The demonic is way more active than before; their activity is more pronounced, and they have less fear than normal…Their ‘limit’ seems to be nonexistent lately; their violent actions have been increasingly daring and brutal.”

She said this in early March. It has come to the fore now with a vengeance.

It is time for us to take up our own “weapons.”

One of the most powerful is the rosary. Pray it daily to cast out Satan and to invoke the aid of the Blessed Mother. Another “weapon” is a pious reception of Holy Communion. Offer Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist for this country and for the world.

We can only surmise that the wiles of Satan were truly unmasked and his plans would be foiled if people would respond to the article’s request and pray.

Finally, I recommend we all say deliverance prayers daily, especially priests in an exercise of their spiritual authority.

Say the rosary. Say the St. Michael prayer. Offer your Holy Communion for the deliverance of our nation and our world. Say deliverance prayers.

Jesus has won the battle. But how many poor souls will be lost in these terrible days? Pray, pray, pray for the conversion of sinners and that Satan would once again be tightly leashed.

These are critical times and your prayers matter.

Satan Unmasked and Angry St. John Vianney was regularly attacked by demons at night. He was especially viciously attacked the night before a big sinner came to confession. When the Curé of Ars experienced these intense demonic attacks at night, he knew Satan would be losing one of his “prizes” the following day.

While preparing this article, which reveals Satan’s current activity in our world, there was some notably vicious pushback. It was more intense than usual.

So, I ask each of you to redouble your efforts. Pray, pray, pray.

United to the intercession of Our Lady and to the infinite power of the Cross of Jesus, Satan’s plans will be thwarted and his Kingdom destroyed.

Prayer to St. Joseph, Terror of Demons Saint Joseph, Terror of Demons, cast your solemn gaze upon the devil and all his minions, and protect us with your mighty staff. You fled through the night to avoid the devil’s wicked designs; now with the power of God, smite the demons as they flee from you! Grant special protection, we pray, for children, fathers, families and the dying. By God’s grace, no demon dares approach while you are near, so we beg of you, always be near to us! Amen.

The Five First Saturdays

Devotion of Reparation To The Immaculate Heart of Mary We have produced a little fold over card to help people to complete the Five First Saturdays Devotion. Our Lord explained to Sr Lucia the reason why the Devotion consists of five first Saturdays. It is in order to make reparation for the five primary offences committed against Our Blessed Mother. We are asked to defend the honour of our Heavenly Mother in this devotion.

1. Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception.

2. Blasphemies against Her Perpetual Virginity.

3. Blasphemies against Her Divine Maternity, refusing at the same time to recognize Her as the Mother of men.

4. The blasphemies of those who publicly seek to sow in the hearts of children indifference or scorn, or even hatred of the Immaculate Mother.

5. The offenses of those who outrage Her directly in Her holy images.

The card contains a little form (see image below) which you can fill in as you do each first Saturday, and serves as an aid to recalling a specific intention of reparation on each first Saturday and as a record and reminder of what is left to do to complete the devotion.

True Compassion: Whose Life Matters?

Fr. Shenan J. Boquet I try very hard not to let my emotions get the best of me, but there are those rare occasions when my ire is raised, and I cannot contain my outrage. Such a moment occurred a few days ago when a colleague in Oceania shared a story that involved a young pregnant woman who is aggressively pressured by medical staff to abort her innocent baby.

Health care officials diagnosed the pre-born baby with Down syndrome and life-threatening heart and kidney problems. They did not present the mother, whose life some would define as tragic, with lifesupporting options or alternatives for her baby. Instead they told her that the best recommendation – actually the only one – is to abort, to kill her baby. And based on experience, I can assume she is hearing that familiar chant repeated to vulnerable mothers around the world, “You would not want your baby to suffer, would you? If you love your baby, this is the best option.”

Abortion supporters want us to accept that abortion is an act of compassion that saves women from the burdens and the cost of raising children, especially in “hard cases.” As in the above case, if a child, before birth, is declared as suffering from a serious illness or malformation, abortion supporters will assert that, if the pregnancy is allowed to continue, the child – arbitrarily determined to have a “poor quality of life” – will have a life which will not be worth living.

They focus on the child’s condition, saying the best and most effective way to help the child is to terminate the child’s life. Society, they say, should not impose the burden of a living being whose maintenance is excessive, costly, and futile.

Abortion, thus, is recommended out of “compassion.”

Of course, this is bogus.

Every Life Matters It is important to reiterate, without measure or limitation, that all human life, from the moment of conception, is sacred and of incomparable value.

To declare that certain human lives are not sacred is to declare that no human life is sacred, that no one is to be unconditionally cherished and protected. Abortion and its mentality normalise the killing of a human being for convenience, treating the innocent child in the womb as an aggressor. Abortion kills one human being so the other human being might be free, “relieved” from some hardship or inconvenience.

Abortion does not solve problems.

Instead, it profits off the destruction of one life and the grave wounding of another. It depersonalises

women and exploits them and their situation. It dehumanises and devalues the life of a baby, pitting a mother against her child.

It also fragments the image of mother and child and in doing so, motherhood itself is devalued. This has disastrous consequences for society and culture. And finally, it portrays motherhood as a threat to a woman’s independence, success, and value as a person.

In most cases when abortion is being considered, women feel pressured; they are anxious and in distress. They may believe the birth of this child would threaten the relationship with the baby’s father or the ability to complete their education or their career goals.

They may also feel intense pressure from the baby’s father, from their own parents, from an employer, or from friends. They often are afraid, feeling isolated, abandoned, and overwhelmed at the thought of facing an unplanned or difficult

pregnancy. To say that abortion is the “only” choice is a false portrayal of options, and it keeps women from pursuing, and society from providing morally licit, life-saving alternatives.

Legalised abortion and an abortionminded society have made it easy to pressure women. Rather than rallying to care for a woman’s authentic needs, those around her often resort to pressuring her to resort to the apparent “quick fix” of abortion. The mentality of abortion also removes “us” and “me” from the equation and conveniently places everything upon the shoulders of the woman saying, “you must fix the problem.”

Advocating for women and their children, without exception, means refusing to accept the violence of abortion and its mentality as a solution. We all have a part to play in this story, which begins by adding “I” to the equation – “How can I serve you? What can I do to help you? What do you need that I can help provide?

Tr u e C o m p a s s i o n M e a n s Embracing The Inconvenient I remember the first time I visited Saint Michael the Archangel Church in Houston, Texas. I was impacted by a sign on its lawn, which today still stands proudly in front of the Church, visible to all who pass by. The message states that if a pregnant woman is in crisis and needs assistance, St. Michael Parish will help. The faith community is giving tangible witness to the Gospel of Life and putting its resources at its service, and in serving both the mother and her baby, they are making it clear to everyone that life is precious and to be loved and defended at all costs. Countless lives have been impacted by the witness of this Church community, and numerous consciences have been pricked by the sign’s unwavering statement.

“True compassion,” says St. John Paul II, “leads to sharing another’s pain; it does not kill the person whose suffering we cannot bear.”

Even though the saintly pope was referencing the violence of euthanasia, another heinous act against the intrinsic value of human life, the same mentality he addresses is applicable to abortion, which seeks to silence the “problem” and minimise all inconvenience.

St. Teresa of Calcutta, who spent her life loving and caring for others, fully understood the consequence

of this deadly anti-life, anti-service mentality.

By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems.

And, by abortion, that father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. The father is likely to put other women into the same trouble. So, abortion just leads to more abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they

26 TRUE COMPASSION want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.

Healing The Wound In Society And Culture It is not hard to discern which view of human life dominates Western culture.

The Culture of Life believes and affirms that all life from conception to natural death is a sacred gift from God, and is inviolable and worthy of protection and care. It joyfully proclaims the truth about God’s love, purpose, and plan for each person. It supports social structures that affirm life in all its stages and holds that authentic freedom is inseparable from responsibility.

The culture of death, on the other hand, denies the inherent dignity of every human life, rejects the principles of solidarity and the common good, is utilitarian and concerned with efficiency, has preference for the powerful over the weak, has a distorted view

Catholic Voice of human freedom, highly values materialism, rejects personal conscience while accentuating individual rights, and “religiously” defends moral relativism.

A people of life believe that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution and society is whether they threaten or enhance the life and dignity of the human person. Every life matters: no one’s life matters more, and no one’s life matters less. A society that values life has a sincere interest in every individual – born or unborn – striving to serve each individual’s need. Instead of seeing the cost, we see the unique and singular beauty of the person before us and have the desire to seek his/her good and well-being. We are willing to sacrifice whatever it takes and do no harm to another.

US Bishop: We Must ‘Reject Any Vaccine That Is Developed Using Aborted Children’ Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, has reiterated his opposition to vaccines created using cell lines from aborted babies in the face of UK bishops claiming that Catholics have a “duty to be vaccinated,” even if the making of the vaccine is morally problematic.

Bishop Strickland tweeted on August 1st “I renew my call that we reject any vaccine that is developed using aborted children. Even if it originated decades ago it still means a child’s life was ended before it was born & then their body was used as spare parts. We will never end abortion if we do not END THIS EVIL! Bishop Strickland posted his latest comments on vaccines on the Saturday after the Catholic Bishops Conference of England & Wales stated that

Catholics have a “prima facie duty to be vaccinated.”

In April, Bishop Strickland released a pastoral letter asking faithful Catholics to join him in helping to bring to a “halt” any development of a coronavirus vaccine derived from aborted babies.

“Tragically, people are not aware of or have chosen to turn a blind eye to the advances in medical science which allow vaccines to be developed with the wholesale use of aborted children’s bodies,” he wrote April 23.

Bishop Strickland stressed that just because “the crime of abortion is considered legal in our nation does not mean it is morally permissible to use the dead bodies of these children to cure a global pandemic. Emphatically, this practice is evil.”

“As your Shepherd,” the bishop wrote, “I urge you to join me, NOW, in passionately but prayerfully speaking out against this practice. As I said in the beginning of this letter, I will help you navigate this storm as best as I can.”

Many of the leading coronavirus vaccine candidates in both the UK and the United States are being developed using foetal cell lines that were originally derived from the tissues of aborted babies in the 1970s and 80s.

In an open letter published in May, Catholic clergy and laity led by former papal nuncio Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò and Cardinals Gerhard Ludwig Mueller, Joseph Zen, and Janis Pujats said that “for Catholics it is morally unacceptable to develop or use vaccines derived from material from aborted foetuses.”

Parenting Roadshow - Back On The Road Just before the Covid-19 lock-down we were touring Ireland with a presentation alerting parents to the dangers posed to their children by the promotion of the LGBT agenda in schools. The presentation consists of three basic parts.

• Part One: shows how the LGBT ideologists have infiltrated many global organisations, including some dicasteries in the Vatican.

• Part Two: shows examples, including videos, of the types of programmes that are being developed in accordance with the World Hearth Organisation Sex Education Guidelines. Many parents will be shocked by this part of the presentation which gives examples from around the world and also includes a section with some examples of what is happening in Ireland.

• Part Three: looks at the role of Catholic Parents and outlines the duties and responsibilities of Catholic parents with suggestions as to how to strengthen your Faith life in order to be able to meet the challenges of rearing children in 2020s Ireland.

We are happy to host this presentation in small groups of from six to twenty parents, either in peoples homes or in other small venues.

Given the formation of the new government and the worrying choices of Ministers in the Departments of Children and Education, and with a very strong LGBT emphasis in the new programme for government - it is vital that we get this message out to as many parents as possible to encourage and to give hope to Catholic parents.

The Wine That Dazes Sr. Anne Marie Walsh SOLT

Recently, while speaking with a dear friend, I found myself sharing some of my personal experiences growing up during the 60’s and 70’s. I lived my grade school, high school, and college, during the great movements and turmoil of that time: the civil rights movement with its urban riots, massive and active anti-war, anti-establishment activity especially on the campuses, women’s liberation, changes in the Church with Vatican II and shortly thereafter, the exodus of thousands of Priests and Sisters from their vocations. I vividly recall the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, from the impressionable and uncomprehending perspective of youth. My friend asked me what I thought, out of all that, had had the most significant impact on our culture, our society today. While there is a case to be made for the progress we’ve made in civil rights, and while I believe the Church has been tremendously blessed by Vatican II (yet is also still reeling from the effect of the thousands who left their vocations) I responded that the sexual revolution, to my mind, has had the greatest impact on where we are today.

Psalm 60: 5 says: You have inflicted hardships on your people And made us drink a wine that dazed us.

But then it says: You have given those who fear you a sign To flee from the enemy’s bow.

I was moved to ask what is the wine that dazes us?

It seemed to me that the wine we tasted in the sexual revolution was the wine of sexual permissiveness. And now we crave this wine. We, as a people, have become addicted to this wine and over these last decades have brewed some very potent varieties of it. Some are so potent that they say one taste (pornography comes to mind), immediately hooks you.

In the space of a relatively short time, we have become like the chronic alcoholic who rationalises his use and denies the devastation and destruction all around him, because he wants free and unfettered access.

Never mind that marriages and families are destroyed, babies aborted, children traumatised and stripped of their innocence. Never mind that violence against women increases, along with every other imaginable form of degradation and perversion. Never mind that disease, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, can be directly traced to the devastating effects of this addiction. We just have to have it. We tell ourselves this makes us free, adult, normal, uninhibited. This is exactly what the alcoholic says.

Our denial with regard to what we are drinking is so strong now, that we are blind to our own enslavement, except when the despair this creates in us sometimes seeps through to the surface, and we experience that sin has its own punishment built right into it. We can no longer help ourselves. And because we do not want to be judged, we try to convince everyone else this is a good thing. “Try it; you’ll like it.” Thus have we exported the wine of our own lewdness to the nations, as the book of Revelation puts it.

This is one addiction that also paralyses this country and makes it passive, indifferent in the face of the grave moral challenges we face. We complicitly acquiesce to the sin of others so we can be left alone with our own sin.

“As long as you leave me free to do what I want, go ahead and do whatever you want.” That seems to be the thinking of so many. It accounts for the apathy that exists in place of a vigorous defence of justice and right and all that is good, true and holy. How can there be

28th August 2020 Catholic Voice moral indignation in people who are not living moral lives? Could this be why so many people are silent in the face of the gross attacks on human life and dignity that exist in our world today?

Psalm 60 says that God gives those who fear Him a sign to flee from the enemy’s bow (the fiery darts St. Paul talks about). Perhaps one sign can be found in the Wedding Feast of Cana.

Jesus wants to give us a different kind of wine, the wine from this wedding feast. This wine is given to those who are rightly ordered in the gift of their sexuality and who celebrate it in the context in which it was given to us by Our Heavenly Father. This wine, the best wine, fills us with love for life, excitement at the promise it holds, joy in the divine love it expresses.

It is a wine which is available to all, and which can be had by following Our Lady’s counsel: “Do whatever He tells you.”

This is the wine the world truly craves, the wine we were created to drink freely. This is the wine that will not enslave but will bring all of us into the true freedom of the sons and daughters of God. May the Most Holy Trinity and Our Lady heal us and bring us to be worthy to receive this wine.

5. The Gospel is full of stories and encounters where Jesus freed people from the oppression of the evil one, through healing, deliverance, etc.
