Lift Up Your Hearts!
Near the beginning of the Eucharistic Prayer, the priest exclaims, “Lift up your hearts!” and the people respond, “We lift them up to the Lord!” This is a signal that the Mass’s central prayer has begun — the prayer that makes Christ’s Body and Blood present as we remember His great work of salvation. If we consider the definition of prayer, “lifting one’s mind and heart to God,” then our whole lives can be filled with prayer. Daily actions, done with love, can become prayerful. Mindfulness of God’s presence in hard times or joyful times becomes a prayer. As St. Paul says, “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thess 5:16-18). When we invite God into our daily lives, we are filled with a confidence and peace, knowing that He is in control, no matter what happens. Do you desire more peace in your life? Is God calling you and your family to spend more time with Him? During our Stewardship Renewal, listen to God’s call in your life and challenge yourself and your family to live a more Christcentered existence.

Finding New Ways
To Pray
When the apostles asked Jesus, “teach us how to pray,” He taught them the Our Father. In addition to this beautiful prayer, there are many different ways to pray. Just like each of us has a different personality, the way we pray that brings us the closest to God will be unique. Some people find the Rosary helpful in meditating on the life of Jesus. Others gravitate toward prayerfully reading Scripture or spiritual books. Still others are most comfortable praising God through song, or speaking to God during quiet meditation. And some people like a mix of all these. No matter what form of prayer best suits you, it should always lead to a heart-to-heart conversation with Christ, and an openness to the Holy Spirit working in your life.

— Psalm 62:3 Ways to Pr ay • Pope Francis’ encouragement is to read and meditate on the readings for each day, found at usccb.org/bible/readings or on Catholic phone and tablet apps such as iBreviary, Magnificat or Divine Office, and ask God how to apply them to your life. • S pend time in silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. •M ake daily actions into a prayer. For example, pray for your child as you fold their clothes, thank God for His gifts as you prepare dinner, or praise God for creation when you take a walk. • Revisit Catholic devotions such as the Rosary, novenas or the Stations of the Cross.

Serving In Love There is a story told that Mother Teresa once visited one of her convents only to hear the sisters report that there was not enough time in the day to do their charitable work. “Then you must pray more,” was her response. The sisters added another full hour to their prayer schedules, and afterwards found that they had adequate time for their important work with the poor. Prayer inspires us to act with love, and sustains us when the going gets tough. How is God calling you to serve? During our Stewardship Renewal, take the opportunity to pray about which ministries God would like you to join.

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide our parish community. • No matter what ministry or group with which you are involved, always begin and end your meetings or activities by praying with one another.

A Prayerful
Offering
As early as Genesis, there is a very strong connection between worship and sacrifice, between honoring God and giving Him “first fruits,” the best of what we have. Even today, dropping our envelope in the offertory basket is a kind of prayer. It is like saying, “Lord, I believe in you and your Church so much that I am willing to give You something very important to me.” While the amount of our gifts will vary from one person to another, the spirit in which our gifts are given matters even more. If you write a check simply out of habit, or the amount is negligible compared to your monthly budget, you may need to reassess. Does your gift adequately reflect God’s importance in your life? At St. Peter, we invite parishioners to work toward giving the full scriptural tithe (10% of your gross income) to God, with 5% given to God through the parish offertory and 5% to other charitable causes. How can you move closer toward the scriptural tithe?

Does the amount of your gift reflect that God is the first priority in your life? • Does your spending on entertainment, fast food or casual shopping prevent you from making a specific, percentage-based gift to God through the offertory each week?

Prayer Acolytes The Acolytes Ministry offers adult men of the parish an opportunity to serve the church by assisting the celebrant at Mass on Sunday and Holy Days. This is a great ministry to deepen your faith and become closer to Jesus. You will be assigned a Mass time convenient to your schedule and will be scheduled to serve once every four to five weeks. Altar Servers The altar servers assist the priest and/or deacon during Mass. There are different duties with specific responsibilities for each server, such as thurifer (carries the censer), cross-bearer, and candle-bearers. It is crucial that all altar servers are mature and reverent during Mass. Contact: Fr. Children’s Liturgy
Lectors/Readers Lectors proclaim the Word of God within liturgical celebrations including Mass, funerals, weddings and Liturgy of the Hours. Particular skills of public speaking are required and an extended formation is required. The proclamation of Sacred Scripture is a very important ministry, which needs to be done with competence and skill in order that the Holy Spirit may be fostered in the hearts of those present. To be effective, readers need to make adequate preparation including study, prayer and practice. Readers have a loud, clear and unhurried speaking voice. Legion of Mary Members bring people to Jesus through weekly prayer and by imitating the virtues of the Blessed Mother as they visit the sick and elderly, and promote prayer through the home enthronement of the Pilgrim Virgin. Distribute Holy Communion to the assisted living facilities, nursing homes and homebound. A spirit of reverent service to Christ, present in the Eucharist, is at the very heart of this ministry. This ministry is very important to the men of our parish community, especially in the areas of spirituality, service, and both outreach and social justice activities. The male camaraderie helps to grow stronger relationships with Christ. There is a different theme each year. We do a Rosary Walk the first Saturday of each month. Perpetual Adoration Around-the-clock adoration. Key to the success of Perpetual Adoration are the parishioners who faithfully keep their assigned hours every week or serve as substitute adorers. Women’s Friday Morning Bible Study This is a women’s formation group fueled by the Holy Spirit and prayer. We meet weekly from 9:1511 a.m. in the downstairs Meeting Room. Formation Baptismal Preparation Class The Sacrament of Baptism is the foundation of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. The Baptism Preparation Team seeks volunteers to facilitate classes that help parents and Godparents prepare for their children’s reception of this holy sacrament. Boy/Cub Scouts The Boy Scout Program teaches skills to boys and young men, ages 11-18. These are skills they can use throughout their lives. The program provides opportunities to develop self-confidence and leadership skills while interacting with others in a positive manner. Troop activities include service projects, monthly campouts, summer camp and a high adventure program. The Cub Scout program teaches skills to boys to help them in their everyday life and prepares them for the Boy Scout experience. The program also provides opportunities for boys to develop selfconfidence and begin to understand various life skills through interactions with fellow Cub Scouts. CCD (Grades 1-5)/Faith Factor (Grades 6-8) CCD is held each Wednesday evening to help our children understand their Catholic faith and to prepare them to receive the sacraments. GodTeen The GodTeen Program is a catechetical formation program for high school students of the parish. The program of Sunday meetings is meant to further a deeper understanding and love of our Catholic faith through discussion facilitated by a married couple from the parish. Marriage Preparation Class Helps engaged couples prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage and married life through various topics and a FOCCUS Inventory. Couples who have been married three years or more offer personal experiences and lead discussions on Communication, Spirituality, Married Intimacy, Financial Responsibility, and Marriage as a Sacrament. RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the process by which non-Catholic individuals become fully initiated members of the Catholic Church, receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. RCIA begins in September and continues to Pentecost (50 days after Easter). Volunteer opportunities include team leaders who plan and lead weekly RCIA classes, and hospitality volunteers who will assist with set up and any gatherings. ROCK (Raising Our Catholic Kids) St. Peter’s ROCK is a ministry with a goal of providing Christ-based family activities for our parish community. This ministry plans numerous activities annually, such as a back-to-school swim party, bowling, rosary making, Easter egg hunt and ceramics. School (St. Peter School: Pre-K through Eighth Grade) “Responding to God’s call, we the community of St. Peter Catholic School, dedicate ourselves with love to the spiritual growth and academic excellence of our children to prepare them for the journey through this life to the Kingdom of Heaven.” Established in 1991, St. Peter School has an enrollment of 435 students and is operated by the School Sisters of Christ the King. Totus Tuus
Service Church Cleaning Parishioners clean and dust statues, vigil lights, the main altar area, and the baptismal font on a rotating basis, approximately once a week. This ministry offers various times and opportunities to help keep your church looking good! This includes sweeping, vacuuming, dusting pews, mopping, straightening up, shining up the glass/ windows, etc. Volunteers may be scheduled on a rotating basis. Also, volunteers come in to help with deep cleaning or periodic projects usually during business hours, as it fits your schedule. Some projects include wiping the blinds, dusting the stair rail, cleaning chairs, and much more!
Totus Tuus (Latin for “totally yours”) is a summer Catholic catechetical program dedicated to the youth in order to evangelize and teach the faith of the Church. The aim is to help all youth develop their relationship with Jesus so that there is an intimate friendship whereby He may lead them to the Father in the Holy Spirit. Taught by college students and seminarians, the focus is on the Eucharist, Marian devotion, Catechetical instructions, vocational discernment and FUN!

CSS (Catholic Social Services) Food Pantry Collection Participants collect food staples, cash, SCRIP, and coupons continuously to help families. PCCW (Parish Council of Catholic Women) The purpose of the St. Peter Council of Catholic Women (PCCW) is to give glory to God through prayer, study and service, for our parish community and the community in which we live. We aim to serve the needs and unite the women of St. Peter in spiritual, educational and social activities. We also aid financially with the needs of the altar, sanctuary and the parish in general. PCCW General Council meets the fourth Thursday evening of each month. Some activities include serving and/or donating food for funeral meals, coordinating fundraisers, serving donuts and coffee, and partnering with outreach organizations. Right to Life We believe God is the author of all human life — as such, only He has the right to take life away. This group provides educational material to the parish about protecting all life, from conception to natural death, and keeps parishioners updated about legislative activities.
SCRIP SCRIP is a vital fundraiser for St. Peter Parish and School. St. Peter SCRIP program partners with many generous local and national vendors to purchase gift cards at a discount and then sell those cards at face value. The profits from the gift card sales benefit our parish and school. Volunteers are needed to sell SCRIP cards at each weekend Mass year-round, as well as the 8:15 Mass on school days. SFA (School Family Association) The SFA ministry is committed to the academic, social and physical growth of its children. Our children are taught to develop their abilities to the fullest so as to better know, love and serve God and their neighbor. Stewardship Council
St. Vincent de Paul Society
Directed by prayer, the Stewardship Council invites all parishioners to recognize and cherish their God-given talents, and encourages parishioners to share their gifts of Time, Talent and Treasure with the community. The Council supports and facilitates programs of hospitality, prayer, spiritual formation, and stewardship renewal (such as the annual Ministry Fair and 24- hour adoration). The Stewardship Council is responsible for supporting the pastoral vision and ministry of the parish. This is accomplished through fostering stewardship as a way of life within all aspects of the parish community. The Council seeks to create opportunities for the parish to increase its ability to recognize, accept and share God’s abundant blessings and gifts each day. The Stewardship Council offers guidance to the pastor to guide the development of stewardship within the parish. The Council seeks to promote the mission and ministry of the parish through year-round communication and special initiatives, and by supporting the annual Stewardship Renewal.
Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering. Organized locally, we witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. We collaborate with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, we see the face of Christ. Hospitality Coffee/Rolls We serve coffee and rolls in the Bishop Vasa Hall about every month, excluding the summer months. Members of the Martha and Mary Circle provide this ministry. It is a great opportunity to meet and share with other members of our community.
Family Game Nights

This is a family-friendly fun event on a Friday evening in the fall at St. Peter. It’s a time to play games and get some food with members of our community. This is put on by the SFA (School Family Association), embodying hospitality and building community and, therefore, the Body of Christ.

Men’s Golf League Members of St. Peter are welcome to participate in the Men’s Golf League. The league consists of four-player teams with two team members playing half (eight weeks) of the 16-week season. The league begins the week after daylight savings time in the spring and ends before Labor Day. League members will have a handicap from their GHIN or actual score posted in league play. Members are asked to prepay the green fees and league dues at the beginning of league. The 2019 league will be at Holmes Golf Course on Monday evenings with a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to golf with other members in our community. Parish Fundraiser We plan an annual parish fundraiser, Taste and See, in February. It is an auction, wine, craft beer and food event that is held on a Friday evening at the parish. Ushers With an attitude of hospitality, ushers serve the assembly in varied ways during the celebration of the Mass. Ushers are ministers of hospitality. They welcome people as they gather for Mass. They are to be easily visible if someone needs assistance or directions to a particular area in the church. They may help seat people or assist the physically disabled or elderly. Ushers inquire if anyone needs to have Communion brought to them in their pew. They assist in handing out worship aides for Mass. Ushers take up the collection and help direct the community at Communion time. They distribute bulletins and other materials as needed. They are observant and stay alert so they can readily assist someone that becomes ill or has a medical emergency.
