INTRODUCTION

A PLACE TO BELONG “For I was a stranger and you invited Me in” Mt. 25:35 From the Church’s earliest beginnings, Christians have built tight-knit communities.

In the early Church, koinonia, or community, was a word with enormous significance. It evoked strong feelings of hospitality and belonging between those who had committed themselves to live as disciples of Christ. The early Church consisted of these groups of people who lived together, ate together and were willing to die for each other. This is the foundation upon which our Christian sense of community is built.

 A Core Christian Value Here at Holy Family Cathedral, we want to help every individual to know that they are welcome and wanted as a part of our Catholic family. The presence of hospitality can make a newcomer or a returning member of the church feel at home. Friends are welcomed with open arms and warm smiles. Visitors feel the genuine love present in a hearty “Welcome!” Family members do not visit; they belong.

In terms of stewardship, hospitality is an immensely important concept. The truth is, if someone doesn’t feel like they are wanted and appreciated, how will they receive the love of God through us? Hospitality opens the door to a person’s heart and allows him or her to receive joy, grace and love. For Holy Family Cathedral to continue to grow as a stewardship community, we must help everyone who walks through our doors feel like they truly have come home. We must make hospitality a cornerstone.

“Stewardship of time… should include setting aside periods for family prayer, for the reading of Scripture, for visits to the Blessed Sacrament, and for attendance at Mass during the week whenever this is possible.” — U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response While many of us understand that prayer is an important element of the Christian life, most of us admit that it’s difficult to find a quiet moment to spend with God. As Christians, we must remember that we cannot give what we do not have. In order for us to welcome others into the life of the Church, we need to make sure that our spiritual lives are properly in order.

To become a more prayerful person, take inventory of how you spend the 168 hours in the week. Are you taking time to talk to God in prayer, to speak with Him as you would a friend? Are you seeking His truth through reading the Scriptures?

Will you make Him first on your priority list so that you are able to give to others from the graces He has given you?

 Maintaining A Healthy Prayer Life: • Pope Francis encourages all Catholics to spend time in daily prayer, thanking God for His blessings, asking for His help in difficult circumstances and reading Scripture.

• Set aside time each week to spend with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration.

• Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on a regular basis and ask God for the grace to live a life of holiness.

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service, but the same Lord… To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” — 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 “As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10). Each of us has received gifts from God that we are to use in humble service. While many of us may not recognize the skills or abilities we have as gifts, they are a means by which we can give glory to God through serving each other. At Holy Family Cathedral, our ministries provide opportunities for us to serve God and others. From a warm smile to giving someone a warm meal, we are able to welcome others into the family of God by being Christ to them. Reaching out in love, while sometimes difficult, can be quite spiritually enriching! Will you take the time to ask God how you can best serve Him through the service of His children?

 Ways to Welcome and Serve Others: • Pray about how your gifts can best be used to help others feel welcome.

• Sign up for a parish ministry that stretches you to put others’ needs before your own.

• Greet our fellow parishioners before or after Mass, introducing yourself to unfamiliar faces. Try to welcome others with the love of Christ.

“The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You are being enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us produces thanksgiving to God.” — 2 Corinthians 9:10-11 Throughout Scripture, we are taught to give to God our “first fruits” or the “choicest portion.” In modern speech, we might say that the first “line item” in the family budget should be returning a portion of our income to God. Both symbolically and in actuality, this is a powerful expression of God’s place in your life. “Where your treasure is, there also lies your heart” (Matthew 6:21). Will you take some time to reassess how you prioritize God in your finances?

Reasons to Tithe Why give a percentage of income?

We give the tithe (which means 10% of one’s harvest or income) because it is a scriptural benchmark that has been honored since the early Church (see Malachi 3:10).

 Working Toward Giving the Tithe 5% to the parish offertory 1% to the diocese 4% to other charities If you have difficulty reaching your goal of the tithe, try increasing your giving incrementally, by one or two percent of income each year. Over time, you will find that the tithe is a reasonable goal that can be reached. Most importantly, you will know that you have been faithful in placing God first in everything, even in your finances.

Many ministries at HFC will require VIRTUS training to ensure the safety of the most vulnerable.

HOSPITALITY MINISTRIES

Food & Fellowship

Parishioners gather for conversation and fellowship over coffee and light breakfast offerings following the 10 a.m.

Mass. Setup workers are always needed.

This ministry is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parishioners.

Home Improvement Ministry

Organizes parish work days in support of parishioners who are in need of assistance with minor home repair due to age, mobility, finances, or other disabilities.

This group also coordinates service days on the Holy Family Cathedral campus.

Hospitality Ministry

The Hospitality Ministry is a group of people who help with parish receptions, meal plan and cook for youth events, and assist with dinners and social events in the parish and other get-togethers.

This hospitality ministry promotes a welcoming atmosphere in the parish.

They host welcoming events for new parishioners at the rectory.

PRAYER MINISTRIES

Adoration at Holy Family

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is offered at Holy Family Cathedral on Friday afternoons from 12:45 p.m.

- 5 p.m. During this time, the faithful are welcome to come and go as they please, but we need at least two people committed to each hour to spend with our Lord. Please consider committing to a regular hour with Jesus.

Bethany Intercessors

This ministry offers the opportunity to share your time and prayers as an intercessor for the parish. Become a part of our parish prayer line to pray for needs of parishioners, family, friends, leaders, and our world.

Confraternity of Christian Mothers

Founded in France over 150 years ago, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers was founded by lay women to discuss their struggles in raising their children and to pray for each other in a culture that had become increasingly opposed to Catholic values. They chose Mary, Mother of Sorrows, as their patroness.

Members depend on each other for spiritual support, catechesis, and social interaction.

Rosary

This group leads the faithful in praying the Rosary 30 minutes prior to each weekend Mass.

Young Adult Holy Hour

Join other young adults from the parish to pray a holy hour in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament on the first Friday of every month. The evening will begin with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 7:30 p.m. followed by sung evening prayer, the singing of sacred eucharistic hymns and benediction. FORMATION MINISTRIES

Adult Faith Enrichment

Fr. Kastl and Fr. Carvajal lead a once a week formation series during the fall and spring seasons. The topic for each season will be shared on parish platforms.

Becoming Catholic - (RCIA)

Are you looking to join the Catholic Church? Do you have a friend, family member or colleague who is interested in learning more about our faith? Becoming Catholic is an eight month formation process designed to form both the heart and the mind of an individual seeking to grow in their intimacy with Christ in the Roman Catholic Church. Becoming Catholic will meet on Sunday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program provides an environment where the children can explore their relationship with God using hands-on materials and is rooted in the Bible, the Liturgy of the Church.

High School Faith Formation

The high school youth program is open to high school-age parishioners.

Leaders help the youth learn more about their faith in a meaningful and fun environment that is appealing to teens.

This group provides an opportunity for high school students to get together, meet new friends, and participate in social, spiritual, and service activities.

Restored Order Sacramental Preparation

Children in grades one and two prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and Eucharist in the restored order. The “restored order� refers to celebrating the sacraments of initiation in the order in which God designed them to be given: baptism, confirmation, first Eucharist.

It also restores the practice of administering the sacraments of confirmation and first Eucharist when they reach the age of reason.

Seasonal Book Club

Looking to increase your consumption of religious books? This book club will read, meet, and discuss books as they relate to Advent, Lent, the saints, church history, and more.

Secular Franciscans

The Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) is a branch of the worldwide Franciscan family as a Third Order that reports directly to the Holy See. Our members are called to follow the Gospel life after the example and manner of the Rule of St. Francis. We meet one Sunday per month.

Wednesdays at the Cathedral

This once a month adult faith formation offering will include snacks, wine and speaking focusing on topics ranging from prayer, scripture, church history, ethics, morality, etc. Important topics in our lives are discussed through the lense of faith. COMMUNITY SERVICE MINISTRIES

Bereavement/Accompaniment

This ministry reaches out to those who have recently lost a loved one. Their purpose is to make the Church present in this time of grief. Members send a card, offer condolences, and invite the families to attend a special Mass for the deceased.

Faith in Action Team (FIAT)

An acronym for the Faith In Action Team, the FIAT ministry gives parishioners an opportunity to do ‘hands-on’ service projects. Parishioners of all ages help with various projects — ranging from packing care packages for servicemen, serving meals to the Downtown homeless community, and cleaning rooms at the Madonna house.

HFC Office Volunteer

Office receptionists volunteer for three-hour shifts one day a week. The morning shift is from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and the afternoon shift is from 1 - 4 p.m.

Volunteers answer the phone, help with office mailing, greet visitors, and assist with other administrative duties at the Parish and School Office.

Holy Family Cathedral Outreach is a program that assists Tulsa-area individuals and families in desperate need. Please consider joining our team of dedicated volunteers and help allocate the resources graciously provided by the Holy Family parish community, with a time commitment of only one (1) hour a week on average.

Holy Stitchers

This group attends the baptismal garment ministry at the parish, creating garments for all little ones baptized at the parish. Additionally, a select few work on clerical alterations as needed.

Meal Train

This group is called upon to make meals for parishioners as they deal with major life events including birth, sickness and death. Anyone in need of this ministry can contact the Parish Office and then information will be passed along to the volunteers.

Teams of four to five volunteers gather each Monday morning to count the weekly collection. Each team participates in a monthly rotation.

Rosary Guild

Parishioners use their time and talents to create rosaries to be used by parishioners and sent to the missions. Meetings happen once a month and attendees receive the resources to continue making rosaries at home.

Share your love of baking by helping contribute cookies to parish functions.

This group bakes at home or quarterly with other bakers to ensure there is always a supply of cookies for events.

Building Committee

The Building Committee seeks parishioners with experience in buildings and ground maintenance to volunteer for general upkeep and repairs around the church, offices and rectory. This ministry serves the landscaping and grounds needs of the parish.

The Stewardship Council shall assist the Rector by deliberating and acting on matters pertaining to the spiritual and educational affairs of the parish. Together with other parishioners we work on concrete ways to make our parish a true community of faith and a vibrant source of service to the larger local community.
