Praying the Rosary: LED TO CHRIST THROUGH OUR BLESSED MOTHER
Praying the Rosary is a powerful way to intercede for ourselves, family, and friends. It might be difficult for those from other Christian denominations to understand the repetitive prayers of the Rosary. As Catholics, we understand the Rosary as a way to reflect on the life of Jesus. And praying the Rosary daily can protect us from evil.
In Mary’s appearance to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, she asked for the Rosary to be prayed each day for peace. All through the years, saints and popes have all implored Catholics to pray the Rosary daily. In addition, the months of May and October are especially dedicated to Mary, and October is the month of the Rosary.

Each weekend, someone at St. Andrew prays the Rosary 30 minutes before Mass. JoAnn Masters and Kim Rupp are the leaders of the ministry, and Todd Trudel alternates with several other volunteers.
“Anyone willing to give of their time and talent is welcome to help with this ministry,” Todd says.
Todd appreciates the opportunity to pray the Rosary before Mass on weekends — he is sometimes even able to pray a decade of the Rosary when he’s driving during the workday. Praying the Rosary gives Todd a chance to reflect on his special intentions. When he’s leading, he gives time for others to do the same.
“After the Rosary, I try to just take some time and talk to God and give Him thanks for all the things in my life that we are so blessed with,” he says.
Todd invites parishioners to come to weekend Mass about 30 minutes early to pray with him and the other leaders. It takes about 20 minutes to pray the whole Rosary.
Leading the Rosary might not be for everyone, but Todd recommends all parishioners get involved in some way —if we all do our part, everything can get done at St. Andrew and in our faith community. In addition to praying the Rosary before Mass, Todd serves on St. Andrew’s Administrative Council and is also a trustee, usher, and greeter.
“I find that being involved gives you an appreciation of all the time and effort all put in to help the local priest with worship,” he says.
