SMCHS Carnival: A Different Fundraiser This Year

If the St. Mary’s Central High School Carnival was being held this year, we would be calling upon dozens of volunteers to help with setting up, taking down, and running Bingo, serving all the delicious food, and operating the many games. Our parishioners would be stepping up as always, to put in their time, talent, and treasure, all in keeping with their commitment to living out stewardship.

It’s different this year, of course, with no physical carnival taking place. But there still is an important opportunity for us to step up in stewardship for this major fundraiser. The carnival traditionally raises money for the five Bismarck Catholic parishes, with the proceeds going toward religious education programs.

This year, there will be a raffle for a vehicle and cash prizes. Parishioners will be asked to buy and sell raffle tickets. Details will be forthcoming on the prizes and how ticket sales will take place.

“It will be twice as important this year to sell tickets to your neighbors, your relatives, to whomever,” says Rita Ritter, our Parish Secretary and long-time Carnival "Saints Drive" Coordinator. “This is the only income opportunity we will have.”

The funds that Ascension Parish will receive will be based on what percentage of the tickets our parish sells.

“If we sell 15 percent of all the other parish sales, we get 15 percent back,” Rita says.

This means that it is very important for our parish to step up ticket sales.
