Dear friends of Catholic Owned
"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed " (Matthew 13:31) "The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast " (Matthew 13:33a)
This is a brief reflection of two parables belonging to the parabolic genre from Matthew's Gospel. The Kingdom of Heaven is compared to such small things like a mustard seed and a little yeast. Mustard seeds are the smallest grains in the Middle East and yeast is a member of the fungus family traditionally used for baking in any of our kitchens. Our Lord Jesus used these metaphors to communicate the message that the Kingdom of Heaven is alive and growing within us.
The idea of the Kingdom is compared to such small things like a seed and yeast, yet they have such energy and power to grow and produce fruits Our Lord said "if you have faith like a mustard seed," He recognizes that faith in our souls Even if it seems insignificant, God can make great things out of it
We need to trust in what God does. He works in silence and is glorified in the simple and humble of heart. Seeds grow quietly and yeast makes the dough rise slowly. Our faith must be like that: simple and committed, not allowing exuberant and grandiose events to distract us and become vain entertainments.
Our faith is rooted and grounded in Jesus, it is His gift to us We ask His Immaculate Mother to help us grow and bring forth fruits of true charity
Rev Fr Oscar F Castaneda

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Self-Published Author, You Are More, LLC
Serving Clients in Multiple States
Offering therapy for individuals, couples & families.
Coaching for individuals
Coaching & Catholic Relationship
& Author
As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I offer therapy sessions for individuals, couples, and families. While I can provide in-person sessions in Indianapolis, IN, I continue to add to the list of states where I’m licensed to provide virtual sessions (so please reach out to see if your state is on my list)! I also provide coaching based on my book Single Truth For couples, I am trained in PREPARE/ENRICH, FOCUS/REFOCUS, SYMBIS (Save Your Marriage Before It Starts), and the Gottman Relationship Checkup. I’m expanding my speaking opportunities and would be honored to share my message with your church, business, organization or event
Through You Are More, LLC I bring faith to life and life to faith as I help individuals, couples, and families discover that they are not defined by their relationship status, job title, season in life, diagnosis, or any other box they feel stuck in. I do this through counseling, speaking, and writing. Ever since writing my book Single Truth: You are more than your relationship status, I wrote “You are more!” before every signature When I received a nudge to leave group practice after 10 years, I felt inspired to expand this signature phrase into a full-time endeavor Even if people do not work with me, I can encourage
them through the business name alone Not only are we more than our labels that get us stuck, God is more than anything that we face I never imagined I would be single in my mid30’s, but because of that I have developed a passion to bring hope to those whose hearts ache in their single season. Though I thoroughly enjoy working with couples and enriching relationship satisfaction, I find great purpose in connecting with the hearts of single people In both types of sessions, I validate feelings and experiences while helping clients to discover the meaning in their story.
In addition to my MA in marriage and family therapy, I also hold an MA in Theology from Notre Dame via the Echo Program. My experience of working in ministry informs the encounter I have with clients in the therapy room Our hearts are restless until we rest in God and there’s a more qualified counselor than me in the room --- the Holy Spirit. The first words of my first counseling class were, “Be still and know that I am God.” I don’t have all the answers, but I can connect clients with the One who does. Rarely do couples pray together so it’s been impactful for me to facilitate prayer in sessions to help them connect with God and one another more deeply
St Francis is my confirmation Saint and Assisi is one of my favorite places in the world. I get to take my fiancé there for our honeymoon later this year!
I’ve become more devoted to St. Joseph over the years and the 30 Day Prayer to St. Joseph never fails to astonish me!

The Feast of the Transfiguration is one day in which the old and new calendars are united. We are reminded of a few important points in today’s Gospel. We see the three chosen Apostles encounter something remarkable. Today we cannot really imagine what it would be like because we are accustomed to seeing many fantastical moving images through technology. But they had never seen someone shine like the sun before.
We also see the disciples attempt to take the wrong action-- to prepare for this miraculous occurrence to continue long enough to need tents. God speaks from Heaven to them, and they respond with fear. And then it is all over as quickly as it began, and they are told to keep the experience to themselves.
It makes one wonder how many times in life a miracle is right before us, and we don’t quite process it or realize it until it is over? Perhaps we busy ourselves with the wrong tasks, only to miss the point. In any case, I appreciate Dom Gueranger’s take on this important historical event:
"While the face of Jesus shone as the sun, his garments became white as snow. Now these garments so snowwhite, as St. Mark observes, that no fuller on earth could have bleached them so, are the just men, the royal ornament inseparable from the ManGod, the Church, the seamless robe woven by our sweet Queen for her Son out of the purest wool and most beautiful linen that the valiant woman could find Although our Lord personally has now passed the torrent of suffering and entered forever into his glory, nevertheless the bright mystery of the Transfiguration will not be complete until the last of the elect, having passed through the laborious preparation at the hands of the Divine Fuller, and tasted death, has joined in the Resurrection of our adorable Head. O Face of our Savior that dost ravish the heavens, then will all glory, all beauty, all love shine forth from thee. Expressing God by the perfect resemblance of true Son by nature, thou wilt extend the good pleasure of the Father to that reflection of his Word, which constitutes the sons of adoption, and reaches in the Holy Ghost even to the lowest fringes of his garment which fills the temple below him " -Dom Prosper Gueranger on the Transfiguration
Last week we covered the first four promises that Our Lady makes to each person who takes up the devotion of praying the Rosary. This week we examine three more-- three that have special significance when considering Eternity.
5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish.
6. Those who recite my Rosary devoutly, applying themselves to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. In His justice, God will not chastise them; nor shall they perish by an unprovided death, i.e., be unprepared for heaven. Sinners shall convert. The just shall persevere in grace and become worthy of eternal life.
7. Those who have a true devotion to the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.
To perish is to suffer complete destruction or ruin We can imagine how promise number five can apply to our souls This promise speaks to how the devotion of praying the Rosary can help prevent our souls from complete destruction or ruin-- that is, ultimate loss of Heaven. Of course it is not a promise of salvation, but it is a strong promise to avoid complete destruction of our souls. This builds on promise number three, regarding the destruction of vice and sin in the lives of those who take up the devotion. Together, these two bring us much closer to Heaven.
The sixth promise speaks to how this devotion can impact our day to day lives, as well as our eternal destination. Most of us would say we would prefer to “never be conquered by misfortune.” It is certainly a practical promise that anyone would appreciate Going without God’s chastisement is also a generally positive outcome, assuming it is His Will As St Ambrose writes, “And I ardently desire to have Him as my Savior, Whom I am unable to withstand as my Judge ”
The sixth promise continues that sinners will convert This is very connected to Our Lady of Fatima, who implores us to pray for poor sinners, many of whom have no one to pray for them.
The last part of the sixth promise is what we are all striving to do-- “to persevere in grace and become worthy of eternal life.” This is the most central goal of all Christian life.
The seventh promise is speaking about the moment of death, and promises that those devoted to the Holy Rosary will receive their sacraments, giving them the ordinary means of salvation. This is as close to a promise of salvation that we as Catholics can hear and believe. May we persevere in growing in our devotion to the Rosary, so that we may realize the 15 Promises, and persevere towards our ultimate goal of Heaven.
Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, Pray for us!
Next week we will examine more promises of the Rosary.

“To the servant of God, every place, and every time, is the right time”
On August 5th, we celebrate the consecration of the Basilica of St. Mary Major.
It is an incredible Marian Basilica in Rome, and if you love Our Blessed Mother, then you would LOVE this church.
The church was called Our Lady of the Snows for many years, due to a legend that snow fell in Rome as a sign for the Holy Father Pope Liberius in 352. The Major Basilica is one of four in the world and is one of the stops on the Seven Churches Pilgrimage. When we started Catholic Owned, we had just returned from a pilgrimage where we did that Seven Churches route and saw this beautiful Basilica, so this is a really special feast day for us
What’s more is a personal story I will share, and I hope it reminds you that Our Blessed Mother loves you so much, and she has been working on your heart for many years
The name of the parish in Italy where we baptized our first son was called Santa Maria della Neve-- Our Lady of the Snows. It was named after St. Mary Major.
I share this because back then, in 2014, I didn’t pray the Rosary. I didn’t have a Marian devotion, and I was very young in my faith as a recent convert in 2012.
But even then, she was there, working in my life. She knew back then that 8 years later, we would return to Italy, embark on a huge pilgrimage with our four children and visit this very church that I would LOVE because of my love for her. She knew this stop was one among several others along the way on that fateful pilgrimage, where we would discern starting a little company called Catholic Owned
A company that would be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart, and whose work would be done in reparation for the many sins and blasphemies against her
It’s beautiful to reflect on the “Marian moments” of our lives Perhaps if you spend a little time considering your own story, you’ll see a few stand out for you, too What’s more exciting is realizing that she already knows the “Marian moments” ahead, and it’s up to us to show up for them.
I pray in this month of the Immaculate Heart that you will grow in love and devotion to her.
