From the Desk of Monsignor

Dear friends in Christ,

The Church has always taught and confessed Mary's real and perpetual virginity even in the act of giving birth to the Son of God made man. In fact, Christ's birth did not diminish his mother's virginal integrity but sanctified it. The Liturgy of the Church celebrates of Blessed Mother Mary as Ever Virgin, in Greek "Aeiparthenos". (Catechism of the Catholic Church 499).

How is it then that the Bible mentions brothers and sisters of Jesus?

"Is He not the carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joses, Judas and Simon and are not His sisters here with us?" (Saint Mark 6:4)

In Semitic usage, (a group of languages Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic) the terms brother and sister (adelphos [Greek]and its feminine adelphe) are applied not only to the children of the same parents but also to nephews, cousins, nieces, half brothers , half sisters, etc. It is important to observe that those so called "brothers" of Jesus in St. Mathew 13:55 are mentioned at the crucifixion (John 19) as sons of another Mary the wife of Clopas (Mathew 27:56 and Mark 15:40) Also Salome, mentioned in St. Mark's Gospel, is the mother of the sons of Zebedee and the sister of the Virgin Mary; therefore, her children were Jesus’ relatives.

As it is in Genesis 13:8, Lot is called Abraham's brother when in reality he is his nephew. (Gen 14:14) There is also no doubt that the word was also used in Mark 6:17 in reference to Philip as 'brother" of Herod Antipas when he was really his half brother.

In a later Church tradition, many argued for a broader translation and by the mid-second century, in the Protoevangelium of James 9:2, Christians were told that the "brothers" of the Lord were probably children of St. Joseph from a previous marriage.

“Mary has produced, together with the Holy Ghost, the greatest thing which has been and will ever be, the GodMan Jesus our Lord and will consequently produce the greatest saints that will be in the ends of time.” (True Devotion to Mary, Saint Louis de Montfort)

Immaculate Heart of our ever Virgin Mother pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Fr. Oscar F. Castaneda

Saul A. Padilla, RIA

Managing Member, Greenwich Creek Capital Management, LLC

Serving US Domestic and International clients

Using our unique and successful risk management process, we actively manage small and large investment portfolios using currencies, bonds, stocks, and commodities

The selection of the right portfolio manager can make a world of difference for individuals and families

Saul A Padilla brings a unique expertise to his clients, and the result is peace of mind for them regardless of current market conditions

Saul’s experience began with several years at two of the main investment bankers in the country and a large international bank It was there that he realized that “no one around me had the interests of my clients in mind. The industry is full of conflicts of interest that no one seems able or willing to fix.”

Following a thoughtful period of four years, he discerned, along with his wife and confessor priest to resign from his employer and start Greenwich Creek Capital Management.

Since 2008, Saul has been helping bring his clients peace of mind. He shared, “At the beginning of a new relationship, as you would expect, clients are nervous if the stock market is experiencing volatility However, as time goes by and they get accustomed to see little or manageable change in the net value of their accounts during bear market cycles, they become very calm and relaxed Giving them peace of mind in terms of their investment portfolios is our goal This is the impact we see across the board, not just on one or two clients ”

For Saul, the impact on his clients and the drive to serve them comes from a greater purpose. “I cannot separate faith and business. I cannot operate in a certain way on Sunday and differently M-F My faith plays a big role in the business and is what motivated me to start GCCM It was a call to put talent to work for the benefit of others ”

Indeed, we are called to use our talents for the greater glory of God Saul mentioned his favorite reading from Matthew 25:14-30, “The Parable of the Talents.” In addition to his years of experience and education, he credits the Grace of God with his ability to innovate his unique risk management process that has captured every bear and bull market that has ensued since starting his firm.

“There is no doubt in my mind that if I was able to develop a highly efficient risk management process, it was due to the Grace of God and not the help of my employers or my own talent Somehow, the right books and research material helped me put together the core of our risk management process, which was fine-tuned by a couple of talented and very faithful collaborators, my daughter and her husband ” In closing, Saul shared about his devotion to the Immaculate Heart. “My wife and I are devoted to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and pray together the holy Rosary daily. We are strong believers that She is the way to heaven and Jesus. We attend Sunday and day of obligation mass as well as daily whenever possible. The latter, more my wife than myself.”

Kathy also shared about her favorite saint “My favorite saint is St Andre Bessette He was the humble doorkeeper at a high school in Montreal. He put a statue of St. Joseph facing Mt. Agent, Catholic Order of Foresters

Fraternal

Life Insurance & Annuities in Five States, incl. Florida

As an independent agent for the Catholic Order of Foresters, I help grow the faith by creating and executing fraternal outreach activities, while also helping protect the financial futures of Catholic families. I can do this all while transparently being truly Catholic in all my actions and deeds.

All of my work includes educational meetings with Catholics, aimed at helping them become financially bulletproof I pray before each meeting, asking the Holy Spirit to “reveal financial issues I can help with If there are none, please send me on to the next family “ This approach makes for a low pressure, high learning environment

With the Catholic Order of Foresters, the best quality and quantity of life insurance is within reach. In fact, in most cases, this peace-of-mind is available for less than what many will spend per week at the coffee shop. The impact on my clients is that they have peace of mind. Financial peace of mind for Catholic families who can rest assured that their spouse and children will not be impoverished if they were to pass away means they can focus on what’s important and be covered in case of disaster This is best illustrated with a simple math problem:

If one has a newborn in the home, that child will likely be living in that home about 20 years. That said, if someone is making $100K a year, if they died, to replace 20 years of lost income requires two million dollars

The life insurance policy would replace that lost income for the family In this example, we do not account for future potential increases for merit and inflation, though they are also worth considering.

The Catholic Order of Foresters makes this kind of coverage affordable for Catholic families As a non-profit fraternal benefit society, we exist ONLY for the purpose of serving our members. Because we have no shareholders to pay, we have some of the most affordable life insurance in the country for baptized Catholics and those married to them. COF doesn’t stop there

COF’s Investment Policy Statement mandates that the invested assets of the organization be managed in a manner that is consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church For devout Catholics, this makes a significant difference.

Not only is there peace of mind financially, but there’s also peace of conscience. Our clients enjoy the benefits of knowing their family is protected, and that the funds are being managed without even a remote participation in evil You can read more about our investing policy by clicking here. Taking our commitment to the Catholic community a step further, COF offers a special benefit in which 5% of the face value of the policy will be committed to the insured’s favorite Catholic charity upon their passing at no cost to the insured or their beneficiaries. These gifts can make a significant difference for the charities, and we have careful requirements to ensure the charities are authentically Catholic

In addition, we provide a variety of fraternal outreach to serve and care for the Catholic community Programs include scholarships for homeschool, grade school, high school and college students, mission trips for those aged 18-24, Adopt-A-Seminarian, and other year-round efforts to feed people spiritually, physically and mentally. Spirituality Tap Ins are special events where COF sends a Priest or Deacon into a bar or coffee shop to deliver an evangelistic talk to the public

Serving Catholics is all that we do at COF

Please consider an appointment with me today I would love to show how COF could benefit your family now and for years to come This assessment is free and resulting coverages could cost less than your weekly coffee. I look forward to meeting virtually or in person during one of my monthly visits to South Florida, where I enjoy family and serving Catholic friends all year round.

Renee Smith, M.S. CCC-SLP

Owner & Pediatric Speech Therapist, Grace Therapy Solutions

Serving Children via Telehealth throughout Florida

Helping Children to: communicate functionally advocate for their individual needs improve academic achievement

connect socially with peers, family & friends

Grace Therapy Solutions provides virtual speech and language services to children with communication needs all throughout Florida Parents often struggle to keep up with children and family members’ appointments, sports, hobbies, etc This makes teletherapy a convenient option for families who want to participate in their child’s speech and language therapy sessions from the comfort of their own home!

As a daughter of immigrants, the importance of hard work was instilled in me as a child. My parents encouraged me to, not only follow my passions, but to find a way to make my passions work for me. Upon entering the field of speech-language pathology, I knew that I wanted to someday have my own private practice. In 2022, I married my husband who is in the military and moved away from my childhood home in Florida to live in North Carolina. With my husband’s job causing him to spend so much time away from home, and with our first baby on the way, I realized that I needed to find a way to stay home while still contributing income to our household That’s what inspired me to make my private practice virtual- so that I can be a stay-athome mom and still live out my passion of helping children improve their communication skills Throughout my career as a speech therapist, I have worked with children of all ages who have various types of disabilities that might affect their communication, i e Language Disorders, Speech Sound Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sound

Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Emotional Behavior Disorders, Learning Disabilities, etc. The treatment I provide as a speech therapist is individually tailored to each client’s needs, therefore positively impacting the ability to communicate functionally, advocate for his or her wants/needs, improve academic achievement, and connect socially with peers So far as a speech therapist, I have helped dozens of children master their speech and language goals and graduate from speech therapy, being able to say all speech sounds correctly, perform at grade/age level in language arts, and communicate functionally with family and friends I learned how to integrate my faith in my work by following the example of my mother, Gizel Abdallah. She worked for over 20 years as a Church Music Director and Music Teacher, and is currently doing so at All Saints Catholic Church and School in Sunrise, Florida. At 8 years old, I started singing with my mother in the church, whether it was as part of the school choir or as a cantor at weekend Masses, and continued singing at Masses with her as an adult. She set the ultimate example of how to use the gifts that God has blessed you with to glorify Him in return. I recognize that God has blessed me with the gift to be able to help children with communication needs So it is my duty to be able to share this gift with families

My Catholic faith also inspired the name of my practice – Grace Therapy Solutions As Catholics we know that the only real solution to any of our problems, difficulties or obstacles in life lies in offering them all up to the Lord because he is the Ultimate Solution And we are only granted solutions through His loving grace God’s grace is healing Throughout my career I have prayed for the grace to be patient and loving during trying times. And I am constantly giving grace to my clients who struggle daily to communicate, and to parents who might be juggling countless responsibilities.

Growing up with a musical mom, our favorite saint was always St. Cecilia. She is the patron saint of music and musicians, mainly singers. She used her voice to worship and glorify God. As a speech therapist, I like to think that my helping children to use their voice is glorification to God as well.

May 26: Holy Trinity Sunday

The Mystery of the Holy Trinity is central to our Catholic Faith- that one true God exists in three Divine Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Beautifully described in the Catechism, paragraph 237:

“The Trinity is a mystery of faith in the strict sense, one of the “mysteries that are hidden in God, which can never be known unless revealed by God.” To be sure, God has left traces of His Trinitarian being in His work of creation and in His Revelation throughout the Old Testament. But His inmost Being as Holy Trinity is a mystery that is inaccessible to reason alone or even in Israel’s faith before the Incarnation of God’s Son and the sending of the Holy Spirit.”

In a sense, the three Persons of the Trinity finally being revealed to God’s people marks yet another fulfillment of the Old Covenant, with the imposition of the New. Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission, saying, “Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have

commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.” (Matthew 28:16-20)

Today we celebrate the unknowable mystery of the three Persons in One God, the beauty and majesty of this fundamental Truth, and recommit ourselves to fulfilling what God has called us to do as our part in the proclaiming of this Truth and the salvation of souls. For some, it is a more literal participation as a deacon or priest, bringing the Holy Trinity to souls for their salvation. For others, this involves carefully discerning God’s will for the religious life, marriage, parenthood, work or operating a business, ministry work, missionary work, or anything else that He has called us to do, and carrying out this work in the context of the Great Commission.

The liturgical season ahead corresponds to the Church Age, which began at the Pentecost and continues to our current day. It is the time in Salvation History where the work of the faithful must be done. So as the season of Eastertide has now officially come to a close, may we invite the Holy Trinity into our hearts with a renewed vigor, and may we take up our work for the Great Commission with renewed urgency, bringing the God and all that He has commanded us to those entrusted to us.

Ultima Verba

As we end the month of Mary, we celebrate the Queenship of Mary on the 31st Let us consider these three core truths of Our Blessed Mother and her role as Queen Mother of the King:

1) A queen mother played a significant role in the establishment of her son upon the throne in Israel. Because the king had many wives, he entrusted the education of his children to their mothers. As a result, the queen chose the heir to the throne and hence she was responsible for his reign and closely linked with the exercise of his kingship. Without their mother, no king would have reigned in Israel.

2) The queen mother in Israel had a powerful influence in the kingdom. This power and authority flowed from her status as Gebirah (queen mother) and not from her as a person This is an important distinction for us to grasp, and is analogous to the power of the Pope or other members of the Church hierarchy The power comes from the status or role itself, and it is for that reason that we would be subservient and obedient to the individual holding that role This can be a difficult concept to accept, but it is one we as Catholics can find comfort in as well

3) The queen mother of Israel interceded in behalf of the subjects of the kingdom She was their most powerful, and therefore preferred, advocate Her specific place of honor and intercession is dramatically illustrated in the following passage from 1 Kings chapter 2. It was in response to a subject making a request to Bathsheba, the Queen Mother of King Solomon. “Very well,” replied Bathsheba, “I will speak to the king for you.” Then Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah (the one requesting), and the king stood up to meet her and paid her homage. Then he sat down upon his throne, and a throne was provided for the king’s mother, who sat at his right. “There is one small favor l would ask of you,” she said. “Do not refuse me ” “Ask It, my mother,” the king said to her, “for I will not refuse you ”

Two points stand out-- ‘he paid homage to her,’ and ‘I will not refuse you ’

As Catholics, we want to be like Christ who is the King We can infer that He is similar to the historical kings in his relationship with His Mother, so we can and should aim to mimic Him in this same posture towards the Queen
