Dear friends,

It is a Catholic tradition to celebrate Lent every year These 40 days help us to prepare for Christ's resurrection During the Lenten season, the Church reminds us of the importance of being closer to Jesus in prayer, through penance and works of charity. The practice of self denial, like abstaining from meat on Fridays, is meant to help us train our ego in order to have a greater spiritual disposition to follow the Lord and remain faithful to Him.

Jesus told His disciples that He had to go up to Jerusalem to suffer and die but that He would rise again. The Apostles had believed in Jesus but found it hard to accept the fact that He had to suffer and die

On Mount Tabor, Jesus allowed three of His closest disciples Peter, James and John to see and experience His glory and divinity His clothes became dazzling white with immense light He was transfigured, and His Apostles saw and experienced the glory of the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. (Matthew 17:1-9)

In spite of His Passion and sufferings, which had been announced by the prophets of the Old Testament, Jesus spoke of His resurrection which was His definite triumph over sin and death

Our Lord wanted to strengthen our faith in Him, helping us to move forward in life even if we have to face difficulties and tribulations Suffering can become a path to be closer to God and to trust in His ways

God sent His Son to save us and not to condemn us (John 3:17) He has called us to a life of holiness, something the world cannot understand. (I Thessalonians 4:1-7) We are to embrace our daily cross, abstain from sin which offends Him, and persevere in His service.

In this sacred season of grace, may we also share the good news of Christ's infinite love for humanity and help others to remain faithful in His Church. Most Sacred Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Immaculate Heart of Mary, cause of our joy, ora pro nobis

Nonprofit Revitalizing Sacred Music in America

Floriani Sacred Music is dedicated to serving the Church and saving the culture through the beauty of sacred music. We believe in the power of Sacred Beauty to awaken and deepen a desire for Christ and His Church

By singing for liturgies, performing educational concerts, and teaching, both in person and remotely with our online course, Gregorian Chant Academy, and our Chant School Podcast, we introduce people of all musical backgrounds to the Church’s rich heritage of liturgical music. Giorgio Navarini founded Floriani originally as a barbershop group as a student at Thomas Aquinas College, where he met Thomas, Joe and Graham, each of whom sang in his choir at different times. Eventually, they moved on from barbershop to sacred music, and realized it was this which they truly loved to sing Years later, after

they’d all long graduated, they reconnected, quit their jobs, and moved to Arizona to begin Floriani as a non-profit men’s vocal ensemble with a mission to revitalize sacred music throughout the world

The Fund for Vocations

Nonprofit Unlocking Vocations Nationwide

Studies show that around 1/3 of those who want to makes vows as priests, friars and sisters are unable to due to student loans, since candidates must be debt-free to enter formation

The Fund for Vocations eliminates the obstacle of student loan debt so that no vocation is lost.

By actively working to alleviate the debt burden for candidates, we have opened the door for over 300 future religious, and are actively supporting members of almost 100 traditional communities, including Dominicans, CFRs, Sisters of Life, Benedictines, ICKSP, and so many more.

When a young Catholic is accepted to formation with a traditional religious order but cannot enter because of their student loans, we make their monthly payments out of a donation-based fund. We keep paying on a monthly basis until they take their final vows, after which we pay off the remainder within five years. If they discern out, they simply pick up where we left off.

The Fund for Vocations started as a mom-andpop apostolate of Corey and Katherine Huber, two very generous and faithful Catholics. They discovered a huge cause of the vocations crisis to be the burden of student loan debts. Most orders will not even allow someone to enter formation with loans. They created a fund out of which to award grants to young Catholics to support a new generation of religious. When they received a flood of applications, they expanded and fundraised to create a 501(c)3.

Many of our grant recipients would attest that they would not have been able to become religious without our help One Mercedarian sister, Sr Yvelyne Marie, HMSS, wrote, “I am beyond grateful for your support, not only financially but spiritually I would not be a Religious today, if not for you

St. Gregory the Great, Pope, Confessor & Doctor of the Church

One of the four key Doctors of the Church, Pope St. Gregory the Great was known for being firm and steadfast in his discipline as a priest and bishop. Perhaps due to his upbringing and early life experiences, he was well-suited for leadership, despite his lack of desire for any such roles

Born in 540 to a wealthy family in Rome, Gregory studied law and became prefect of Rome, just as his father had been, serving just five years in the position before resigning After his father died, he converted the family home to a monastery and became a Benedictine monk He went on to found six monasteries on the land his father left him in Rome and Sicily.

He was ordained and became one of the pope’s seven deacons, even serving several years in Constantinople to try to liase for peace with the Lombards. In addition to the invasions and difficult relations with the East, Rome faced flooding and disease when Gregory returned from Constantinople.

He was called back to Rome to be an abbot, found the city in dire conditions and was then elected pope, despite his preference for a simpler life As pope,

Gregory wrote a book called Pastoral Care, which covered the office of the bishop, including its duties and the qualities of a bishop. He described a good bishop as one who is charged with preaching and being the physician of the souls under his care His own preaching style was described as “down-to-earth,” and he practiced what he preached in his role as Bishop of Rome

This Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent, also known as Laetare Sunday Similar to Gaudete Sunday during Advent, it is a short pause during the otherwise penitential season of Lent. Vestments are rose in color. The name comes from the Introit of the Mass, Laetare Jerusalem, and the Gospel is when Our Lord Jesus fed the multitude with the miraculous multiplication of the loaves and fish.

Fisheaters draws beautiful parallels between the words of the Gospel of Matthew, which recounts the same story as Sunday’s Gospel, John 6:1-15, and the words of Consecration during the Mass You can enjoy this reflection here

The glimpse of joy indicated by the rose vestments and permitted altar flowers reminds us of the joy to come on Easter morning, an appropriate punctuation on the Lenten season. The momentary reprieve from Lenten sacrifices and mortifications serves as a refueling of ourselves, especially during the time when fasting and abstinence were observed more strictly throughout the entire season of Lent.

It’s also the perfect time to examine our unique Lenten journey for this year Similar to an examination of conscience, we can ask ourselves the tough questions:

-Have I kept my Lenten promises?

-Am I being faithful to the almsgiving, prayer practices and other devotions I have committed to?

-Am I encountering Our Lord at weekly Mass and more?

-Have I gotten my confession, and if not, when can I ensure it is done?

-What is Our Lord asking of me for the remainder of this Lenten season?

This physical and spiritual renewal is timed perfectly for us poor sinners, not only because the Lenten sacrifices seem very long. More important than that is that the recommitment to our devotion to our Lenten promises will be needed as

Passiontide begins the following Sunday Passiontide spans Passion Sunday through Holy Saturday, and comprises two weeks of liturgically and spiritually intense celebrations. It’s the perfect time to double down on any forgotten Lenten practices, or to even add a bit of extra spiritual work Easter will be here before we know it, and making the most of this time will bear fruit for the rest of the year

Some extras to prayerfully consider:

-Pray a Rosary or for an afternoon outside an abortion clinic with the 40 days for life groups.

-Donate financially to a cause close to your heart

-Volunteer with the Missionaries of Charity in Miami

-Plan your Holy Week Masses and services

-Stop at a Perpetual Adoration chapel weekly or daily, and consider an overnight session once or twice

-Watch The Passion of the Christ

-Consider abstaining from meat for more than just Fridays

-Sleep on the floor on Good Friday or more nights May our resolve be strengthened to live the rest of Lent 2024 with ever greater fervor.
