POPE’S MESSAGE For 48th World Day of Prayer for Vocations, (Vatican Information Service – edited) Proposing Vocations in the local church is the theme for the Pope’s message for the 48th World Day of Prayer for Vocations. ‘At the beginning of his public life, the Lord called some fishermen from the shore of the Sea of Galilee: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17) He invites them to become his friends, to listen attentively to his word and to live with him. ... every member of the Church needs consciously to feel responsibility for promoting Vocations ... it is essential that every local church become more sensitive and attentive to the pastoral care of Vocations ... the ability to foster Vocations is a hallmark of the vitality of a local church ... calling new labourers to His harvest.’ (Pope Benedict XVI)

SEMINARY APPEAL Catholic Diocese of Hamilton

BISHOP’S MESSAGE It’s exciting to know that the Holy Cross Seminary is full again this year. The 10 new seminarians there now brings the total number to 27. In the past year, another young man, Glenn Brennan, has entered the seminary from our diocese, joining Danny Fraser-Jones, who is now in his 4th year. Glenn has been in pastoral placement for the past year in St Thomas More parish, Mt Maunganui and St Patrick’s parish, Te Puke. I know that you will pray for these young men as they generously offer themselves to the Lord to discover whether or not He is calling them to Priesthood. ‘In Him we were also chosen, having been predestine according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will.’ (Ephesians 1:11)

As members of the diocese please respond generously as you become aware of the costs involved in the formation of our students for the Priesthood. Thank you in anticipation of your generosity in prayer and financially. God Bless you. Yours in Christ Brochure printed April 2012
