KIA ORA, We’re so pleased to be able to offer the Jubilee BBQ Trailer for use by parishes, ministries, and schools throughout the Diocese of Hamilton. This trailer was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Bernadette Trust, whose hope is that it would serve as a practical resource for building community across our diocese. Sharing kai is not just about nourishment — it’s an expression of welcome, belonging, and joy. As Catholics, we uniquely understand that community happens around the table — not only in the Eucharist, but also in our own whare, where some of the most meaningful encounters take place over a shared meal. We hope that as you use this BBQ trailer, it becomes more than just a useful piece of equipment. We hope it creates moments of connection, laughter, service, and celebration — and opens up new opportunities to foster manaakitanga and whanaungatanga within our communities. So whether it’s used to host a celebration, support a fundraiser, or cook meals for those doing it tough, we’re so pleased that this trailer can be part of your mission. We’re honoured to share this resource with you, and we can't wait to see the many ways you’ll put it to good use. Ngā mihi nui, Pastoral Services Team Catholic Diocese of Hamilton

CLEANING

Grills While the grill is still warm/hot, use the scraper and a small amount of water to loosen and remove any food residue from the hot plate. Note: Cleaning while warm is much easier — just take care to avoid burns. Grease Trays - We ask that grease trays are emptied before return. To make this easier the trays are lined with foil and filled with kitty litter to absorb grease and prevent spills. To access the trays: Slide the BBQ unit forward Kneel in front of it and reach underneath Gently push the tray back, then slide it forward and out from underneath We have found this method to be much easier than trying to reach around from the rear of the unit.

USING THE TRAILER UNLOCKING & ACCESSING EQUIPMENT Use the green key to unlock and open the exterior panels. If any locks are stiff or stuck, please be gentle—don’t force them.

SETTING UP THE BBQ’S On the right-hand side of the trailer, you’ll find both BBQ units. Unhook the gas hoses one at a time. Press the blue lever down on either side of the BBQ and carefully slide the unit forward. Take the gas hose and connect it to the gas fitting coupler under the exterior ledge on the right-hand side of the trailer.

CONNECTING THE GAS Unlock and open the gas bottle compartment. The trailer uses one bottle at a time. Choose the bottle you’d like to use and turn the bottle's knob to “open”. Then, turn the blue lever by the regulator toward the bottle you're using—this directs the gas flow.

LIGHTING THE GRILLS These BBQs are equipped with automatic ignition, as labelled on the front panel. Push the control knob in and slowly turn it anticlockwise to “High.” You should hear and feel a click—that’s the ignition activating. Hold the knob in until the burner ignites. If it doesn’t light straight away, turn the knob back to “Off” and try again a couple more times. Still not lighting? Wait a few minutes for the gas to disperse before trying again.

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF HAMILTON | PAGE 16

USING THE TRAILER AFTER USE When you're finished cooking, follow these steps to safely shut down the BBQ: Turn off the gas cylinder first by turning the bottle’s knob to “Closed.” This allows any remaining gas in the hose to burn off—this should only take a few seconds. Turn off all the burners on the BBQ once the flame goes out. At the gas regulator, turn the blue lever back to the centre position. It should sit vertically, perpendicular to both hoses—this stops gas flow to either side. Disconnect the gas hoses from the couplers under the exterior ledge. Once disconnected, you're ready to begin cleaning. Head to the Cleaning section (p.17-18) and follow the directions from there.

ELECTRIC BAIN MARIE Set-Up: Carefully remove the Electric Bain Marie from the trailer and place it where you'd like to use it. Power it using the provided extension cord and multibox. Please note: The extension cord can be a tripping hazard. Use the cord cover provided so it can be safely stepped over or driven over. Filling with Water: Ensure the blue lever on the drainage spigot is in the closed position—this means it's perpendicular to the spigot. Remove the food compartments from the bain marie. Fill two of them with clean water and pour them into the main heating area (where the element is). Set the thermostat dial to your desired temperature. Once heated, return the food compartments to their place and cover with lids when full. After Use – Draining: To empty the bain marie, turn the blue lever to the open position (parallel to the spigot). Allow all the water to fully drain. Caution: The water will be very hot—please take care while draining.
