The love of Christ impels us (II Cor. 5:14) to serve our neighbors in need (Mt. 25: 31-46) –we cannot do otherwise (Deus Caritas Est, no. 25).

A Message from Debra Lemmon

As fall’s vibrant hues fill our communities, we are reminded of the rich harvest that grows from seeds of faith, hope, and love. We are deeply grateful for the impact your generosity has made in the lives of those we serve. Through your support, Catholic Charities continues to bring healing, stability, and renewed hope to those in need.

This season, we celebrate stories of gratitude like those of over 40 refugee children who found joy in our summer camp program, creating unforgettable memories thanks to your support. We also highlight Amir’s journey, fleeing religious persecution in Pakistan to find stability and the freedom to practice his Catholic faith here in Charlotte. Lastly, Catherine’s story shows the transformative power of compassion, as your generosity helped her move from despair to renewed hope.

These stories reflect the profound impact of your generosity. Your unwavering support serves as a beacon of hope, guiding our neighbors in need toward brighter, more hopeful futures. But our labor in the Lord’s vineyard is not complete. Many individuals and families still need our support, and we rely on your continued generosity to make a lasting difference in their lives. Together, we can cultivate brighter futures for our brothers and sisters in need and continue to be the hands and heart of Christ in our community.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Summer Smiles: Refugee Kids Find Joy at Camp

Thanks to the Refugee Resettlement Program and your generous support, over 40 refugee children experienced the joy of summer camp— an opportunity many American kids take for granted. From visiting Carowinds to bowling and making crafts, these children, who fled war and persecution, were able to simply be kids, all at no cost.

“It’s amazing to see how quickly they come out of their shells and connect with children from different nationalities,” says Laura Jones, Refugee Resettlement director. “This camp gives them experiences they might never have had.”

One young girl from Iraq couldn’t stop smiling after her first roller coaster ride—a moment made possible by you.

“For these kids, it’s about having a normal summer experience,” adds Taylor Barnhardt, who oversees the program.

Your support makes programs like this possible. Thank you for giving these refugee children the chance to enjoy the happiness of childhood.

Amir’s Story: Faith without Fear

Amir and his family, devout Catholics from Pakistan, fled their homeland seeking religious freedom. Leaving everything behind, they embarked on a difficult journey to the United States, but their faith remained strong.

“It was very hard,” Amir recalls. But his family held onto their faith in God and Catholicism.

Upon arriving in the U.S., they faced the challenge of rebuilding their lives. Catholic Charities stepped in, providing essential support.

“Catholic Charities not only helped us gain stability,” Amir says, “but also strengthened our faith and hope in all those people who contributed to making this happen.”

Now thriving, Amir works with a legal services firm, helping other refugees navigate their new lives. He sees Catholic Charities as a beacon of hope.

“One candle lights more candles,” Amir says. “Catholic Charities is lighting up more hope for people in their hopelessness.”

Your generosity helps light the way for many others facing hardship.

Catherine’s Story: From Hopelessness to Happiness

At Catholic Charities, your generosity is a powerful force that brings light and hope to neighbors in need like Catherine. After 35 years together, her husband left her, leaving her feeling unworthy and shattered.

But with our compassionate care made possible by your generosity, Catherine was able to rebuild her self-worth and start anew.

“Catholic Charities made me feel like I belong in this world,” Catherine says.

Today, she radiates happiness, exudes confidence, and is fearlessly pursuing her dreams, including earning a bachelor’s degree with the support of her counselor.

Catherine’s journey shows the resilience of the human spirit and the difference your support makes. “A heartfelt thank you for everything you’ve done for me,” she expresses.
