A Message from Mary Beth Marquard

We are blessed to witness the transformative impact of Catholic Charities through the stories of individuals like Karen, William, and Keesha. Each has experienced the power of charity and generosity firsthand.

Karen, a devoted grandmother, was deeply concerned about her grandchildren’s food insecurity. Thanks to Catholic Charities, she could provide them with nourishment, love, and hope, bringing joy to her family.

William’s move to the U.S. from El Salvador, made possible through the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program, faced challenges during reregistration. Thanks to your generosity, we provided essential support to secure his legal status and reunite him with his family. Your donations have helped William build a better future and offer his children new opportunities in America.

And finally, Keesha, facing homelessness and mental health struggles, found support and hope through Catholic Charities. Your donations helped with temporary housing, car repairs, and job interviews, setting her on a path to a brighter future.

We are humbled and grateful to have you as a partner in our mission to bring hope and vital services to the Piedmont Triad community. Your support and prayers have made a positive impact on the lives of countless individuals, and we could not do it without you.

With your continued generosity, Catholic Charities can continue to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Karen’s Story: A Grandmother’s Gratitude

Karen, a devoted grandmother to nine, feared her grandchildren would go hungry.

“I can go without food,” she says, “but I don’t want my grandbabies to go without.”

Living on just $23 in food stamps each month, Karen struggled to make ends meet. She was hesitant to seek help at first, but when she finally reached out to Catholic Charities, everything changed.

“The staff told me that’s what they’re here for,” Karen recalls. “If you need it, you come.”

When she brought food home, her grandkids were grateful and asked her to thank Catholic Charities. “I really appreciate Catholic Charities because they love what they do,” Karen says, urging others to seek help without pride.

Thanks to your support, families like Karen’s receive the assistance they need when they need it most.

William’s Story: Working for a Fresh Start

William left El Salvador for Winston-Salem to provide a better life for his family after an earthquake ravaged his homeland. Economic opportunities were scarce, so he sought a better future in the United States.

Through the U.S. government’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program, William arrived legally but faced challenges with re-registration. Catholic Charities stepped in to assist him.

“Catholic Charities helped me re-register for TPS,” William says. “They helped me well, and I trusted

what was being done.” With our support, William maintained his legal status, found work, and was able to reunite with his wife and children in the U.S.

“Now I’m happier that we are all together,” he shares. William aims for permanent residency to continue providing opportunities for his children without fear.

Thanks to your generosity, families like William’s find stability and hope in a new land. Thank you for making a difference in William’s life and that of so many others like him.

Finding Hope: Keesha’s Journey to Stability

When Keesha arrived at Catholic Charities, she was homeless and living out of her car, overwhelmed by trauma and stress. Her mental health was suffering, and she felt on the brink of giving up.

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we were able to provide crucial support.

When Keesha’s car broke down, we helped with repairs and provided food and temporary housing in a hotel. This safe environment allowed her to rest and recover.

We also assisted her in securing job interviews, giving her a stable place to prepare.

From a life in her car to finding new housing and a hopeful future, Keesha’s journey reflects the profound impact of your support. Your generosity has made a real difference in her life. Thank you for being a beacon of hope for those in need.
