When Keesha arrived at Catholic Charities, she was homeless and living out of her car, overwhelmed by trauma and stress. Her mental health was suffering, and she felt on the brink of giving up.
Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we were able to provide crucial support.
When Keesha’s car broke down, we helped with repairs and provided food and temporary housing in a hotel. This safe environment allowed her to rest and recover. We also assisted her in securing job interviews, giving her a stable place to prepare. From a life in her car to finding new housing and a hopeful future, Keesha’s journey reflects the profound impact of your support. Your generosity has made a real difference in her life. Faith without Fear
Your generosity helps light the way for many facing persecution
Amir and his family, devout Catholics from Pakistan, fled their homeland in search of religious freedom. With their faith under constant attack, they left everything behind to seek refuge in the United States. It was a difficult journey, filled with uncertainty, but their faith remained strong.
“It was very hard,” Amir recalls, “but what we gained, and what remained with us, was our faith in God and our faith in Catholicism.”
The family arrived in the United States with a mixture of relief and uncertainty. They were finally able to express their faith openly and without fear, but they were confronted by the challenge of rebuilding their lives in a new country. That is when Catholic Charities stepped in, providing much-needed support.
“Catholic Charities not only helped us gain stability,” Amir says, “but also strengthened our faith and hope in all those people who contributed to making this happen.”
For Amir, the freedom to practice his Catholic beliefs is a precious gift. With the help of Catholic Charities, Amir and his family are thriving, and their faith is strong. He now works with a legal services firm, helping other refugees navigate the intricacies of rebuilding their lives in the United States.
Amir sees Catholic Charities as a beacon of hope for those in need, just like a single candle can bring light to a room full of darkness.
“It’s just like a candle,” Amir says. “One candle lights more candles, and one hope brings more hope. Catholic Charities is lighting up more hope for people in their hopelessness.”

Thanks to you, Gary found hope, dignity, and strength
Gary was a homeless Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan when he took his first steps toward finding help. His journey led him to our Asheville location.
Amid a global pandemic, Gary faced numerous challenges, including losing his home in Asheville when his landlord sold the house. From there, he and his roommate were left with no choice but to move from place to place, even traveling to Florida before returning to Asheville. But it was when Gary found Catholic Charities that his life began to take a positive turn.
“It was a really wonderful experience coming to Catholic Charities for the first time,” Gary says.

“They asked simple questions about what I needed, and I told them. If they didn’t have it, they directed me to where I could get it.”
Your support for Catholic Charities did more than provide for Gary’s basic needs. As a Veteran and a person experiencing homelessness, Gary was in desperate need of mental and physical healing.
“It is important to be known by name and to get some recognition in life that you are still important out there,” he says. “They treat you with that respect to lift you up. That can drive you forward to push you through to another day.”
