Grant for Diversity and Inclusion Catherine Cook strives to grow our school population so that it reflects the community and city in which we live. A more diverse school community composed of people from many backgrounds and experiences is a richer place for inquiry, learning, and empathizing. Since 2018, the record-breaking generosity of past Gala Paddle Raise donors to the Grant for Diversity and Inclusion has supported Catherine Cook’s commitment to developing adaptive, confident, productive stewards of an evolving world. Two families are currently a part of the Catherine Cook community as recipients of the Grant. But we cannot stop there. As we continue to make diversity, equity, and inclusion a priority, Catherine Cook will once again present the Grant for Diversity and Inclusion as its Paddle Raise for our 23rd Annual Gala. Grant recipients receive full tuition, Extended Day, and school lunches as well as funding towards After School Adventures, materials, supplemental learning, and additional programming that supports their participation in all that Cook offers. Additionally, funds will support curriculum, parent education, and professional development. Families who demonstrate significant financial need and identify with an underrepresented group in our school population (including race, ethnicity, religion, physical ability, sexual identity, or gender identity) can apply at any grade level and receive the Grant for all subsequent years they continue to qualify. The number of new recipients we can support next school year is dependent on funds raised this evening. This year, we are proud to announce a partnership with the Thatcher James Swanson Memorial Foundation and Cook’s Grant for Diversity and Inclusion. We’re so glad you are with us this evening to learn more and join the Swanson family in supporting this amazing initiative. LIVE AUCTION #2 – Exclusive Bespoke Necklace and Behind the Scenes of Hindman Auctions This one-of-a-kind necklace was designed and manufactured exclusively for the Catherine Cook School Annual Gala by Jennifer Sydel, of Sydel & Sydel LTD., Chicago. This unique piece is comprised of hand-carved aquamarines, cabochon (smooth polished) aquamarines, white topaz, chalcedony gemstones, and diamonds. The oval faceted light blue/purple chalcedony gemstones weigh 19 carats total and are surrounded by 1.29 carats of white topaz gemstones set in oxidized silver. The diamonds are set into beads, delicately separating the aquamarines. The last element of this unique necklace is handmade silk beads, which bring another layer of texture to this necklace. The hallmarked clasp uniquely identifies that the necklace is manufactured by the creative talent of Jennifer Sydel. Alternatively, the winner of this item could work with Jennifer Sydel to create a custom jewelry piece valued at or below the price of the above necklace. Gather your friends (and wear your brand-new piece) and come together for cocktails and appetizers with a private preview for up to ten people at the Hindman Auctions showroom in the West Loop. AUCTION RULES Values of items listed are donor’s retail price estimates of fair-market value. Values are not set by Catherine Cook School. For information on the deductibility of individual items, check with your personal tax advisor. All sales are final. There are no refunds. Except where specified, item winners may not ask the donor or Catherine Cook School for exchanges. Purchaser agrees to abide by any applicable restrictions. Unless otherwise specified, items must be claimed and/or used within one year from the Gala date. Payments must be made in full on the evening of the Gala. Payment may be made by check, credit card, or cash. For ease of checkout, please provide credit card number upon registration. Purchases will not be released without payment. Auction items are non-transferrable without the express written consent of the donor. Catherine Cook School and the Gala Committee are not liable for auction items not claimed by successful bidder at the conclusion of the event. Special arrangements for pickup may be made at time of purchase. By buying any item, buyer waves all claims for liability against Catherine Cook School and the donor of the item, property, or service. Neither Catherine Cook School nor the donor is responsible for any personal injury or damage that may result from use of the item, property, or service sold. Purchasers are bound by precise restrictions specified by the donors of vacation homes and/or condominiums. Terms are non-negotiable. Please read specifications and limitations carefully. Unless otherwise noted, dates and times should be arranged between the donor and purchaser. Successful bid of a vacation home or condominium is non-transferrable. Any damages incurred to vacation home or condominium during stay of purchaser are the sole responsibility of the purchaser. Auction Bid Procedures Guests may bid on auction items by using their designated GiveSmart link. Initial bid for an item must be at least $1 higher than the previous bid (in the case of items on which bidding has not yet taken place, bid must be equal to or greater than the minimum opening bid). If the closing bid does not represent at least the required minimum increase over the previous bid, it will be voided. Please review bids carefully. At the scheduled closing times, GiveSmart will close the auction; no further bidding will be permitted after this time. Winning bids will be entered by a cashier into each purchaser’s file.
