LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear Catherine Cook Community,
In my second year at Catherine Cook, amidst the challenges and difficult times, I continue to rest assured in knowing there is no better place and no better community than Catherine Cook. Over the past twelve months, our school has flourished in ways that at other times may have seemed unimaginable.
Our caring and committed faculty and staff bring learning to life for our students every day through the use of multiple platforms. They model what it means to be lifelong learners in support of our program. Our students continuously demonstrate a level of resilience and flexibility as we all adapt to new ways of learning and being in school. And finally, our families are exceptional partners as the walls of our classrooms have expanded into homes throughout the city and country.
Catherine Cook’s successful completion and awarding of our ISACS re-accreditation in January 2020 identified our incredible strengths and opportunities for growth. Our school is poised to further explore, expand, and deepen its roots as a leading Chicago independent school. With the addition of our new Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Director of Curriculum Integration and Innovation, our program continues to grow and align with our mission to develop “adaptive, confident, and productive stewards of an evolving world.” We remain committed to our ROARSy values and the relationships we build. Creativity, imagination, empathy, and critical thinking can be seen in each of our students all along their personal learning journeys.

MISSION & DIVERSITY STATEMENT
MISSION STATEMENT Catherine Cook empowers students from preschool through eighth grade to be adaptive, confident, and productive stewards of an evolving world. Our community engages with ideals of cultural competence, progressive academics, ethical literacy, and innovation designed to inspire personal excellence and compassionate leadership.
DIVERSITY STATEMENT Catherine Cook School is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and compassionate community grounded in a culture of integrity. 5
CODE-A-PILLAR Junior Kindergarteners enjoyed learning basic computer programming skills using a simple robot called Code-a-Pillar. Students arranged and re-arranged Code-a-Pillar’s segments to create various sequences, using trial and error to land the robot on a designated location.

Plans for our Annual Gala took a major turn this year – instead of hosting our event at the Palmer House Hilton, “Vision of the Future” was true to its name as we quickly adapted to an online Gala. Even though things looked a little different, we were still able to have our Silent Auction, Paddle Raise for the Grant for Diversity and Inclusion, and a live tuition raffle drawing with Dr. Brogdon and Catie the Cougar. PADDLE RAISE: THE GRANT FOR DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION A diverse and inclusive school community benefits all of us, and its effects can be felt well beyond the walls of our campus. It provides a wide range of experiences and perspectives to enhance collaboration and can prepare our future leaders for the world they will inherit. Thanks to our generous donors during the Annual Gala Paddle Raise, we will be able to continue offering the Grant for Diversity and Inclusion for additional students! The Grant fully funds tuition, fees, lunch, and after school programming to families who strengthen our community, but who would not otherwise have the financial ability to obtain a Catherine Cook education.
