LASER DIODE What is laser diode?

How effective is it?

Diode laser delivers energy in the form of light of wavelength ,ranging from 660 nm to 1064nm.

Clinical studies show an immediate reduction of pain after treatment.

Diode laser act directly on cellular structure, destroying cells walls, modifying metabolic processes and structure of the biofilm. For treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity, diode laser will melt the dentin structure.

Different wavelength (660nm , 810nm, 910nm) with different power beam setting (from 30 to 100 mW) were used to show effectiveness. Pain scores show that the effect of 910 nm diode laser has a long term lasting effect compared to smaller wavelength. (El Mobadder et al., 2019)

Advantages and Disadvantages of Laser Diode Therapy • Less invasive • Less bleeding • Wide range of procedures such as treatment of oral ulcer, frenectomy, antimicrobial effect, enhance osteointegration for implant • Improvement of clinical attachment • Less pain and patient compliance and acceptance • Reduction of post-operative drugs • Fast healing

• Multiple session needed • May damage pulp at higher temperature • Contraindicated for primary teeth root canal • Require eye protection • Certain procedure may involve unpleasant smell. • Expertise and training necessary

NOT your ordinary lozenge! This biomimetic treatment used a mineralizationdirecting peptide called sADP5, derived from amelogenin, to promote dentin repair. sADP5 can be integrated into any type of oral health product, such as a lozenge the size of cough drop. (Yucesoy et al., 2023)

(Yucesoy et al., 2023)

BIOMIMETIC LOZENGE CHEMICAL, MECHANICAL, AND THERMAL PROPERTIES

(Yucesoy et al., 2023)

• Hardness value and elastic modulus of new mineral layer shows higher values vs. sound dentin.

(Yucesoy et al., 2023)

• Full integration and continuity of the mineral layer is preserved after exposing it to hot, cold stimuli. No change has been observed in the chemical composition.

Goal and Objectives GOAL To educate dental and other healthcare professionals about the most recent methods and innovations in treating dental hypersensitivity. OBJECTIVES • Identify the latest methods in treating dental hypersensitivity and describe their main functional components and targets. • Assess the immediate efficacy of laser diode therapy in providing fast relief from dentinal hypersensitivity by measuring patient's pain scores before and after treatment. • Assess the efficacy of biomimetic lozenge by measuring the chemical, mechanical and thermal properties before and after "treatment". • Identify the advantages and disadvantages of using biomimetic lozenge and laser diode therapy in treating dentinal hypersensitivity. • Compare the efficacy of biomimetic lozenge and laser diode therapy with traditional treatments for dentinal hypersensitivity such as desensitizing dentifrices, in terms of short and long-term relief.
