The Distinct Difference Of The Cathedral Junior School
The Cathedral School bravely rethought our approach to our youngest learners almost a decade ago. At that time, we set out to learn from leading educators the world over. We concluded a list of insights from which we crafted our own pedagogical approach. Since that time, we have invested heavily in developing our purpose, personnel and places for teaching and learning. Consequently, today we offer a very distinctive approach to education in these most formative years.
Our purpose is to foster a love of learning. We uncover the interests of each child, leverage their natural inclination to be curious, and from this heightened level of engagement we teach for maximum effect. This purpose demands an individualised approach for each and every child – after all, we are all unique!
We employ senior accomplished teachers who are dedicated, full-time guardians of their class. They are valued contributors of our learning community, and teach and instruct each other so as the ability, skill and knowledge of the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We continue to improve and progress our pedagogical approach each and every day.
A visit to our school will demonstrate the distinctiveness of the places in which we teach and learn. They are visually engaging and flexible in layout to allow teachers to adapt the environment to the learning objectives for maximum engagement. Students are empowered to use the space in ways that work for them. They learn the critical skill of decision making and importantly are empowered to control the outcome of their learning. The space ensures students learn far more than the Australian Curriculum –they learn the skills of innovation, adaptability, creativity, collaboration – the “soft skills” that are ultimately the only indicators of success for an unknown future.
