SPORTSREVIEW SPRING 2017 Issue 1

Welcome to the termly review of Sport at Caterham School...

NETBALL

Under 14s Record Wins The Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and 1st VII all had their qualifying rounds of the Surrey Schools in the Autumn Term, with the U16 VII going through in fantastic style, remaining undefeated after five tough matches. The Under 14 VII recorded the most wins they have ever achieved at this level and despite not qualifying for the finals, they are getting closer and closer and can feel very proud of their performance on the day. The Under 15 VII and 1st VII were very unlucky not to achieve qualification, with both finishing 3rd in their section and the 1st VII missing out on goal difference alone. These teams can only feel proud of the way they represented themselves on the day. Well done to all. International Play for Seniors Other highlights from the season so far include the very successful and enjoyable U15 netball tour to Dubai; three teams of Senior, U16 and U12 players enjoying match play against touring Swiss club side Meinier; the 3rd VII being undefeated in all matches played in this first term; the 1st VII being one match away from Regional

qualification after wins against teams such as St Catherine’s, Epsom College, Reigate Grammar and Cranleigh; the U13A going goal for goal against Colfe’s and coming out eventual 22-21 winners; U12 C&D teams regularly enjoying Monday lunchtime matches against the Prep school; two impressive level ThunderCats matches; and rounding off the term the U12A beat Guildford High 10-8 in a what was a very thrilling match to watch. In total 22 teams have played 133 matches, winning a staggering 71% of these matches. Well done to all the players and we are looking forward to even more netball next term!

REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS Congratulations to Sarah Lowe (Fifth Year) and Zara Russell (Fourth Year) who have been selected for the Surrey County Netball Academy, and to Katie Hudson (Fourth Year), who has been selected for the Surrey County Development Academy. The Academy is for the best netballers in Surrey between the ages of 14 to 18 years. Jenna Sam, Joani Baker, Poppy Oliver and Julianne Gibbon (all Third Year) achieved places in the Surrey Satellite Academies, with Jenna and Joani making it in to the elite squad. Congratulations also to Georgina Blunt (Upper Sixth Form) and Olivia Tikare (Lower Sixth Form) who have once again been selected for the London and South East Regional Performance Academy (RPA). This Academy is for girls who are training at just one level below National Academy, and so to be selected is incredibly tough given the very high standard of netball in the Region. Both Georgie and Olivia were selected to represent the RPA on their recent tour to Switzerland, where they competed against the Swiss National sides.
