Extraordinary events don’t just happen; they’re crafted through creativity, collaboration, and a sense of place. In Greater Des Moines, inspiration is everywhere. From unique venues that double as experiences to local vendors who specialize in lighting, décor, and entertainment that wow, you’ll find countless ways to infuse personality and purpose into your gathering. Add a meaningful touch through community giveback projects or surprise your attendees with hands-on activities and authentic local flavor. However you define unforgettable, we’ll help you design it, with the partners, places, and creative ideas to make your event uniquely Des Moines.
Add instant ambiance and photo-worthy flair with custom marquee letters or light-up décor from local vendors like Iowa Glow Co. and LED Marquee. Spell out your event name, initials, or a fun message that doubles as a statement piece, perfect for welcome receptions, galas, or after-parties.
Turn your venue into part of the adventure. Some of Des Moines’ most distinctive spaces are made for exploration and lend themselves perfectly to interactive experiences like scavenger hunts or team challenges.
At West End Architectural Salvage, every corner tells a story. This eclectic, four-story warehouse, famous for its HGTV series, is filled with repurposed treasures, vintage décor, and one-of-a-kind finds. It’s a dream setting for a group scavenger hunt where attendees can explore each floor in search of quirky items or complete creative challenges that spark conversation and connection.
Or bring your group to the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates, where art, architecture, and global stories of innovation create a setting that’s both beautiful and meaningful. Incorporate a scavenger hunt that

guides attendees through exhibits highlighting agricultural pioneers and the building’s historic restoration, transforming what could be a simple venue tour into an engaging, purpose-driven experience.
Give back to the Greater Des Moines community while strengthening your team. Organize a CSR project with Meals from the Heartland to pack meals for families in need or volunteer with Variety Iowa to build bikes or stuff backpacks for youth in the community.

Get a true taste of Midwestern hospitality at venues that celebrate Iowa’s roots. Host an event at Wilson’s Orchard & Farm, where guests can take a hayride, pick their own fruit, and enjoy farm-to-table fare in a picturesque setting. Or plan a creative group workshop at Rose Farm, a floral haven in Norwalk offering private classes in wreathmaking, baking, and watercolor surrounded by blooming gardens and country charm.
Add local flair with Des Moines-based musicians and bands who can set the tone for any occasion from acoustic duos and jazz trios to high-energy party bands that get attendees on their feet. For something unexpected, partner with The Dinner Detective, a live, interactive murder mystery dinner show that turns your guests into part of the cast as they work together to solve the crime over cocktails and dinner.
Add a personal touch with hand-decorated cookies from ChaCha’s Hiland Bakery or branded confections from Stam’s Chocolate, Beaverdale Confections, or Chocolate Storybook, perfect for welcome bags, dessert displays, or parting gifts. Lean into Des Moines’ foodie side with creative catering partners who think beyond the buffet: picture build-your-own bacon bars (after all, we’re home to the World Pork Expo), sprawling charcuterie boards that double as décor, or interactive grazing tables from Graze Craze that invite guests to gather, mingle, and indulge.
Sure, we’re in the heart of the Midwest — but Greater Des Moines serves way more than casseroles and corndogs. Greater Des Moines is more than just a destination — it’s a fusion of flavors, stories, and traditions from around the globe. Here, cultures don’t just coexist — they converge, creating a rich tapestry of experiences that give the region its heartbeat. From Afro-futurist art in the Historic East Village to Ecuadorian feasts in West Des Moines and Nepali dumplings in Windsor Heights, every corner offers something new to discover — and a community ready to welcome you.
Des Moines celebrates culture not as a theme, but as a way of life. Each year, festivals like Iowa Juneteenth, CelebrAsian, Latino Heritage Festival, Capital City Pridefest, and the World Food & Music Festival turn downtown into a living mosaic of music, movement, and mouthwatering bites from dozens of countries. These aren't just events — they're invitations.
Public art tells the story of a place — and Des Moines is speaking volumes. Don’t miss A Monumental Journey, a striking downtown sculpture by Kerry James Marshall commemorating the Black attorneys who founded the National Bar Association in Des Moines in 1925. In West Des Moines, explore the Historic Jordan House, a stop on the Underground Railroad that continues to teach and inspire. Or take a contemplative stroll through the Robert D. Ray Asian Gardens, a serene symbol of Iowa’s refugee history and Asian American contributions.
Art lovers can dig deeper at Mainframe Studios, where creators from diverse backgrounds open their studios to the public, or the Des Moines Art Center, which features rotating exhibitions and murals like Future and Black Renaissance, co-created by Black and Latino artists.
No matter your background, you’ll find a piece of home in Des Moines, and countless reasons to return. The people, the plates, the parades, and the past all come together to create a place that’s not just inclusive but inviting. Culture here isn’t a side trip, it’s central to the journey.
