The CVCC Foundation seeks donations, grants, and sponsorships from individuals, foundations, and corporations to support the college. ALEXANDER COMPLEX

Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) was established in Catawba County in 1958 and welcomed its first 77 students in 1960. The college now operates in a service area that includes Catawba and Alexander counties in the foothills of western North Carolina.

Demand for classes grew in both counties, and by the 1980’s the college

In 2013, business and industry approached the college and Alexander County asking for an exponential expansion of the training offered in the county. Recognizing that the existing Center facility was operating at capacity, leaders implemented a plan that acquired a neighboring 37,000 square feet building that, now renovated as the Alexander Applied Technologies Center, houses the following mix of uses: Alexander County Furniture Academy and showroom Curriculum Welding Technology program equipped with a state-of-art welding laboratory and metallurgy laboratory Adv. Manufacturing laboratory – curriculum and continuing education

Redhawk Publications is an initiative of Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, NC. Redhawk publishes books written by students, faculty, and staff of CVCC, as well as members of the college’s community partners, including the Historical Association of Catawba County in Newton, NC. Redhawk represents authors from all over the United States of America.

Redhawk’s initial publication “Polio, Pitchforks, and Perseverance: How a North Carolina County Named Catawba Built a Miracle,” along with its companion documentary “Miracle: How a North Carolina County Named Catawba Battled Polio and Won,” debuted in 2016.

Redhawk’s offerings now include over 60 books of classroom texts, poetry, history, and fiction. Redhawk helps create low-cost versions of classroom scaffolding texts, created and written by faculty, that will improve student learning in any discipline or specialty and create a revenue opportunity for faculty and programs alike.
