Module II covers advanced inside upholstering tasks for chairs, love seats, and sofas. Emphasis is placed on channeling and tufting for all styles and types. This course teaches students the fundamentals of upholstering furniture starting with basic seat construction and introducing safe use of inside and outside upholstery tools, materials and techniques.
Manual Cutting

Module I includes understanding work order specifications, pattern placement, working with patterns on fabric, fabric characteristics, cutting techniques, proper use of cutting tools, and cutting and sewing simple fabrics.
Module II covers advanced cutting on a variety of fabrics and furniture styles. Emphasis is placed on cutting complex patterns for a variety of furniture styles, flow matching and the use of patterned fabrics.
Outside Upholstery

Module I introduces the application of an outside cover to a basic frame. Topics include double covering and proper use of padding on the outside of chairs, love seats, and sofas. Upon completion, students should be able to cover and pad the outside of chairs, love seats, and sofas.
Module II covers application of outside coverings to frames using more complex fabric and decoration. Emphasis is placed on applying skirts and decorative trim, including matching of stripes. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate proficiency in covering furniture outside and applying decorative trim and matching of stripes.
Pattern Making

This course covers the techniques and procedures for fabricating cutting patterns. Topics include frame measurement, pattern development, and pattern making.
Sewing

Module I introduces skills needed to sew upholstery and covers operation of a standard sewing machine. Topics include exposure to hand cutting, machine operation, safety, adjustments and maintenance, threading, and sewing straight lines, corners, curves, and welts.
Module II covers operation of more advanced equipment on complex fabric patterns and designs. Emphasis is placed on double needle, zipper, border, and computerized machines and on matching stripes and patterns. The CVCC Maintenance Tech Bootcamp will provide instruction, lab experience, and training in Maintenance Tech Fundamentals: Mechanical Systems, Fluid Power, and Electrical Systems. All students attending one or more modules can recieve module credit by passing the placement test (credit for prior work experience/knowledge).
