Catawba Lands Conservancy celebrated a major milestone in 2014: protecting its 15,000th

acre of land. In its more than 20-year history, CLC has evolved from a grassroots organization designed to protect Mountain Island Lake into a nationally accredited land trust that is preserving special natural areas across six counties and leading the Carolina Thread Trail. In 2014, CLC added four new properties to its land protection program. Totaling some 200 acres, these new conservation areas are vital to our region’s water quality and agricultural economy, and three will be home to future segments of the growing Thread Trail. To date, CLC manages and monitors 185 properties comprising 15,087 acres of natural land across the southern Piedmont of North Carolina.
