Now the number of women in the trades workforce is rising, which is good for women, the workforce overall, and the economy. What do work boots have to do with gender diversity?

Unfortunately, too many women working in trades today are still working in ill-fitting safety gear, either because the options aren’t available locally or they simply don’t exist. Without the proper safety equipment, women looking to take up a trade face very real barriers, not least of which is on-site safety.

Our safety footwear engineers found women tend to have a narrower instep with a smaller circumference, shallower first toe, higher arch and shorter foot length overall. Steel Blue ladies’ boots accommodate for this and are specifically tailored to complement the shape of womens’ feet.

Proper ankle support is a crucial part of injury prevention. Our women’s safety boots feature shorter ankle lengths to allow mobility without compromising on safety. This applies to the entire ladies’ boot range, including Lace Up, Zip Sided and Pull On styles, and boots with added safety features like Electrical Hazard protection and Penetration Resistance.

October is National Safe Work Month

Heatleys is proud to support National Safe Work Month this October by committing to building a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Managing Risks

Identifying hazards and managing risks is a keyway to eliminate or minimise potential injury in the workplace. Managing risks involves thinking about what could happen if someone is exposed to a hazard in the workplace, measuring how likely it is that incident is to occur and what measures to put in place to minimise or eliminate the risk.

Taking Care of Your Mental Health

Mental or psychological health is just as important as one’s physical health and wellbeing in the workplace. It is important to know what a psychological hazard is so it can be identified, and the associated risks managed appropriately. A psychological hazard is anything that can cause harm to one’s mental health by creating stress, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or sleeping disorders. Some common psychological hazards in the workplace include workplace bullying or harassment, high job demands, poor support and inadequate reward and recognition.

Changing Patterns for the Future

Australia is a world leader in work health and safety and to continue this way it is important that we constantly review safe work practices and identify different ways of working to minimise hazards and risks in the workplace. Safety in the workplace is everyone’s responsibility as everyone deserves to feel safe at work.
