2014 CASTLETON FOOTBALL LAST TIME OUT: CASTLETON The Spartans dropped to 4-3 with a 47-26 loss at the hands of Husson last Saturday. The Eagle defense recorded the first nine points with a safety and interception for a touchdown in the opening quarter. Castleton pulled within 16-13 after a pair of touchdowns from George Busharis to Zachary Howe, but Husson outscored the Spartans 21-7 over the final eight minutes of the second quarter to lead 37-16 at the half. Castleton allowed just 164 total yards in the second half as each team scored ten points for the 21-point final. Busharis finished with a season-high 398 passing yards and two touchdowns while the defense gave up 348 yards rushing and 521 total yards. LAST TIME OUT: MARITIME (N.Y.) The Privateers won their second straight game with a 13-6 victory over Becker last Saturday at home. Maritime recovered three fumbles and intercepted a pass in limiting the Hawks to a single touchdown and 225 yards of total offense. The Privateers led 3-0 at the half and pushed their lead to 10-0 early in the third. Becker came back with a touchdown later that quarter but a Maritime field goal in the fourth was the final scoring of the game. The Privateers rushed for 196 yards in the game and committed just two penalties in the win. RECENT HISTORY Castleton is 1-4 all-time against Maritime, with the lone win coming at home in 2012. In that game the Spartans led 21-9 at the half and then added two touchdowns in the third quarter for a 35-9 lead before finishing with a 35-16 win. They passed for 349 yards in the game and the defense allowed 319 total yards. Last year on the road Castleton trailed just 7-6 at the half but the Privateers scored 31 unanswered points in the second half to win 38-6. They recorded 550 yards rushing while the Spartans were held to 202 yards of total offense. SCOUTING THE SPARTANS Offense: Castleton has taken to the air in recent games and leads the conference in passing yards (218.7) and scoring (29.3), while ranking second in total yards per game (347.6). Junior George Busharis has come on strong as of late and is averaging 249.7 yards per game through the air in three appearances, while also tossing eight touchdowns with six interceptions. He primary receiver has been Kevin Alberque, who is coming off his first 200-yard receiving game last weekend. Alberque leads the ECFC in both catches (35) and yards (553) while scoring six total touchdowns this year.
