It’s that time of year again and we’re delighted to offer you one of our best rosters for the upcoming breeding season. Firstly, we and I in particular would like to thank you for supporting our stallions and business for the last three seasons. It has been a privilege to see the stud grow and become a pillar of what we do here at Castlefield. This year at Castlefield Breeding Farm, we welcome Der Senaat 111, Durango VDL and the return of Castlefield Kingston, who will stand alongside iKannan V G and our up and coming stallions Castlefield Future and Castlefield Conthargos.

We are thrilled to offer Der Senaat 111 a son of President, who in 2023 ranked 4th in the world for his percentage of offspring that currently compete at 1.60m of stallions offering fresh semen. Under the guidance of Belgian rider Abdel Said, Der Senaat 111 had several notable results at several Nations Cups, Grand Prixs including the CSI5* World Cup of London in 2012. Der Senaat 111’s influence extends beyond the arena, passing on his five star experience with exception to his offspring. His strong siring qualities are also highlighted by an impressive number of offspring jumping 1.60m or above and his 13 approved sons, of which 4 already jump 1.60m.

Medoc de Toxandria, one of Der Senaat’s most famous sons, ridden by Great Britain’s Tim Gredley has clocked numerous impressive results to date, not least last year they were part of Great Britain’s winning Nations Cup team at the 5* Longines FEI Nations Cup at Hickstead, the British team that finished runners up in the renowned Nations Cup of Aachen. Other successful five star progeny are Moeboetoe v/d Roshoeve who campaigns under Sweden’s Evelina Tovek and Its The Senator 111 with Austria’s Peter Petschenig. Der Senaat 111 is an approved stallion by the BWP, DWP & AES studbooks. Breeding with Der Senaat 111 offers certainty, both in the sport as well as in breeding, the numbers speak for themselves, the first of his kind in Ireland.

Durango VDL by VDL Zirocco Blue is another addition to our stallion collection this year. Competing at international Grand Prix level himself with USA’s Ashley Fleischhacker, Durango VDL’s rideability, intelligence, athleticism and scope has been passed on to his children. His top progeny include the 1.60m mare iCaterina campaigned by Britain’s Joe Whitaker who triumphed at the four star show in Rouen, France in 2022, Just D another 1.60m mare who at the start of this year won the World Cup Qualifier of Taupo with Julie Davey having previously been campaigned by Jeoren Dubbeldam. Durango VDL also sired the six year old Belgian Champion KARLA with Victor Lauwerysen in 2021. A versatile stallion, Durango VDL has sired top eventers with his progeny impressively competing through the international eventing ranks namely Jalba O and DHI Jackpot. DHI Jackpot earned runner up with Italy’s Vittoria Panizzon at Millstreet International in May and placed at CSI 4* at Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials in September last year. Durango VDL’s remarkable daughter Marie Goldlavsca topped the sales at the Equbreeding Auction in September last year where the six year old was sold for €425,000.

We are extremely excited about our two youngest stallions, Castlefield Future and Castlefield Conthargos, who we think have the credentials to become top-class stallions. We look forward to welcoming Castlefield Conthargos’ first crop of foals this Spring. Both stallions were lightly campaigned last year, so we are excited to see what they will achieve as five year olds this year in the show ring.

A stallion with presence, iKannan V G will stand with us again this year, having previously campaigned internationally with Jason Foley until his competition career was paused. iKannan will sire his first Irish foals this year and no doubt they will echo the blood, elasticity and carefulness of their father. His young offspring in Europe are looking very promising.

For many of our loyal breeders, the return of Castlefield Kingston is warmly welcomed after competing internationally all last year. Alongside his owner, Ellie Guy of Chedington Equestrian we are delighted to announce his return. Castlefield Kingston’s young progeny first signs look very promising. His progeny thus far have achieved impressive results in the sales rings selling for up to €28,000 and resemble his athleticism, balanced canter and reflexes.

More than anything, our sport relies so heavily on the breeder who continues to strive to breed the best horses. Our collection of stallions this year is one of our strongest and most versatile offerings to our breeders. Castlefield Conthargos a son of the world acclaimed CONTHARGOS out of a SOLID GOLD Z dam. His dam, Sweet Louise SPB Z is half sister to the 1.60m stallion Andreas SPB Sweet Louise SPB Z showed great potential competing to 1.30m before her competition career ended early. A striking 5yo young sire who already demonstrates to us the strong characteristics of his famous family. Over every jump this son of Conthargos impresses with his technique, might and power, in our opinion demonstrating to have unlimited capacity.

Bred by Stud 111, a son of President out of a Burggraff mare Lizette, Der Senaat 111 showcases a strong pedigree. Der Senaat 111’s influence extends beyond the arena and in 2023 he ranked fourth in the world amongst stallions available for fresh semen whose offspring jump 1.60m level and above.

No stranger to success himself, Der Senaat 111 had several notable five star results throughout his international career with Belgian rider Abdel Said including The World Cup of London, The Horse of Year Show, Global Champions Tour in Abu Dhabi and many other international shows.

A proven sire that has passed on his five star experience to his offspring with 13 1.60m jumpers. His strong siring qualities are also highlighted by an impressive number of approved sons of which 9 already jump 1.50m or above. Amongst Der Senaat 111’s most successful offspring are Medoc de Toxandria, campaigned by Great Britain’s Tim Gredley holding numerous impressive results. Striking five year old stallion with incredible natural technique, beautiful movement and exceptional confirmation. A son of Cornet Obolensky, renowned for his elite offspring. Impressive dam lines producing numerous 1.40m – 1.60m sport horses, most notably Balou de Reventon who was voted International Horse of the Year by the USEF and finished 9th in the World Cup Finals in 2023 with GB’s Harry Charles.

Castlefield Kingston a commendable stallion by Cinsey out of a Cascari mare, Cascarina. Carefully produced throughout his primitive years with Ireland’s Jason Foley and British rider Joseph Stockdale, Castlefield Kingston clocked many consistent international young horse results competing up to 1.40m

Castlefield Kingston’s first crop of foals were born in 2021 and he stamped his dominance as a desirable stallion in Ireland, with his progeny achieving outstanding results in the sales ring with prices up to €28,000 attained.

Castlefield Kingston’s half sister Castlefield Cassandra, who demonstrates the athleticism and scope of her brother, sold at the 2023 Aloga Auction for €200,000 to Swedish rider Ebba Kewenter.

Castlefield Kingston is noted for his pleasant character, extremely athletic canter, balance and his lightning quick reflexes over jumps.
