A Note from Head of School
Dr. Betty Noel-Pierre
As I reflected on Mary Lockey’s profound legacy on Founder’s Day at the end of April, I invited the audience to consider the importance of this moment. Everyone there was part of the link between Castilleja’s impressive past and expansive future. Now, I want to acknowledge your role in this storyline because as donors to the Open Their World—The Campaign for Castilleja, you set the foundation for that future.
“Together, we will see this project through to the finish line, building a campus to match our highest aspirations not only for our own daughters, but for women leaders everywhere.”
New heads of school often begin their tenure right after a campaign has concluded. After all, it’s a tall task to arrive in the midst of a $125 million campaign. However, there were two factors that assured that this goal was well within our reach. The first is something I know we all agree on—the vital importance of the mission. Our shared work is more relevant today than ever before. The second factor is all of you. Your early and deep commitment proved to me that the Castilleja community will stand behind its ambition. We have high hopes for the next generation of women leaders, and we are going to make our vision for the future a reality together.
The new campus will help define Castilleja’s second century, but new buildings are just the beginning. Modern, purposefully built spaces will inspire deeper connection, curiosity, and joy. Ultimately, your gifts are supporting what will be possible once we cut the ribbon, when phenomenal teachers, curious students, and our supportive community co-create Castilleja’s next chapter.
Thank you for your steadfast commitment as early donors. You, and your generous investments in the school’s future, have inspired me, and I know you will also be an inspiration to the rest of the Castilleja community as we finish this campaign and open their world in our modernized learning spaces.
With gratitude,

Dr. Betty Noel-Pierre Head of School

Parking Garage and Casti Village Start to Finish

Casti Village Exciting Progress: Construction Update

Casti Village and the underground parking garage are done!
At the start of the 2025-26 school year, the below-grade concrete pours were completed and the scaffolding and wooden molds were removed, creating the steel-reinforced shell of our new parking structure. As the entry ramp from Bryant and the exit ramp to Emerson took shape, the focus shifted to the garage’s interior, where the crew installed electrical, ventilation, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
With the foundation complete, hundreds of metal beams, known as “sleepers,” were installed across the cap (or roof) of the garage to anchor and stabilize the modular components that now make up the learning and program spaces in Casti Village. Capital campaign donors saw the work in progress during several hard hat tours and alums enjoyed a sneak peek during Reunion/Alum Day 2025.
Following Commencement, Phase 2, construction of the modernized campus, will begin and is expected to last 24 months.

Donor Spotlights
Among the many generous donors who have joined together in support of Open Their World, we gratefully highlight these members of our community— parents of two students and an alumna—who share what inspired them to make this investment in the school’s future. Over the last year, many capital campaign commitments have come from Middle School families who are thoughtfully investing in Castilleja so early in their daughters’ journeys. Alumnae also continue to step forward to give back, and we celebrate their lasting connections with the school. Thank you to everyone who is participating in this historic transformation.

“We are proud to support Castilleja because we have seen how much the school helps girls grow not only as students, but as adults and future members of our communities. The academics are strong, but what matters just as much to us is the way Castilleja encourages girls’ curiosity, confidence, kindness, and courage to speak up.
As parents who were both born outside the U.S., we know how important a wellrounded education, personal values, and resilience are in living a fulfilling life. We hope this campaign helps preserve what makes Castilleja special: a place where girls are challenged, supported, and given the space to discover who they are and what they care about.
Supporting this campaign feels like investing in the next generation of thoughtful, capable, and compassionate young women. We are grateful to be part of that.”

A beloved piece of Castilleja history, the carved doors from 1962 will be preserved and thoughfully reinstalled as the new Middle School entrance on Bryant Street.
“I hope the new campus at Castilleja School will embody the same excellence, ambition, and sense of possibility that define a Castilleja education. My experience there was deeply meaningful, and I graduated feeling confident, empowered, and prepared to take on new challenges.
My years at Castilleja instilled in me a resilient self-confidence that became a real asset in my career as an investment manager. Being able to contribute to portfolio committee decisions and advocate for ideas, sometimes as the only woman in the room, drew directly on the

strength and leadership foundations built during high school and honed at Stanford and Anderson.
Because of that, I believe the facilities should be just as outstanding as the education itself—spaces that inspire learning, foster connection, and support every student in discovering her strengths and voice. I hope the new campus honors the spirit of Castilleja while creating an environment that reflects its extraordinary impact on students’ lives and continues to empower future generations.
Some of my dearest friends are from Castilleja and it is with them in mind that I felt inspired to make an investment in the school.”

Castilleja’s Okawa Pool, built in 2001, was named after Isao Okawa, former chairman of Sega. Mr. Okawa gave the lead gift and was joined by over 100 other donors.
NEW CAMPUS

Our new Aquatics Center will host swim meets and water polo tournaments, as well as practices. The below-grade pool will feature tiered spectator seating and have direct access to locker rooms in the gym.

Our current classrooms have been in constant use for decades: Rhoades Hall since 1967 and the spaces in the original dormitory, built in 1962 and renovated in 1997.
NEW CAMPUS

Flexible learning spaces will support the way students are learning and leading in the 21st century.
