The newest craze to hit American collectors is Luis Tanahara’s Car Tunes Series. The ‘tooned’ style of cars has always been polarizing amongst collectors with critics claiming that this style is just another version of fantasy cars and another way for toy companies to drum up money. Yes and no. The main aspect of business is to make money so if you think companies are in business to make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside or worse waiting for scalpers to buy up their products for cheap, create a false demand and then make money selling the cars at three, four times the price, no.
And toilet bowls on wheels are fantasy cars, someone’s strange fantasy but fantasy no less. At CastHeads we deem this stunning addition to the diecast world, ‘Tru Car Art’. It takes a creative mind to take insight and convert into a product that ticks a lot of boxes quite literally. The pun stems from the fact that even the boxes that the cars come in play a pivotal role in the whole design mantra of the series. Ok so we are being f*#$*#@ cryptic.
The boxes are designed to act as car garages for the cars you get. How deep is that insight? Remember when you were a kid big boxes acted as fire departments or a building in our bedroom cities. Yep, Luis and team brought it back with predesigned carton boxes that act as car venues you can use. And we spent that many words on the box.
The actual cars are stunning with elaborate paint finishes that would outshine Dolly Parton on a shiny Las Vegas performance day coupled with ‘Tanahara’s flame’ on some of the gorgeously designed toned bodies. The casting themselves for me personally are more ‘beautiful’ in an art piece sense as opposed to a tooned sense and I would certainly love to add the colour and diversity they can bring, to the collection

Hitting the shelves by the time this mag comes out. Not the first Kaido NSX but in this tangy orange shade it looks brilliant and if you are a first-time collector, you will be pleasantly blown away by the quality and detail these Kaido cars follow. What we found was really cool getting the NSX for the first time, detailed engine, working flip lights and those wheels. Grrrrr….

We cannot describe how excited we are for the release of the 1980 Land Cruiser in the TRD colours and matching flatbed trailer, just look at that and what a perfect partner it makes for their TRD coloured TOYOTA CELICA. Till the new tooling’s hit the shelves Greenlight still has thousands of castings around the world sitting on shelves offering collectors a different experience as opposed to the hype cars that we see. Which is great for the collectors who like collecting hype.
But since we have been seeing a small resurgence of classic cars and we are talking about an era that predates dedicated sports cars, Greenlight gives us refreshing change in the shape of this beautiful Buick Road Master Convertible from 1949. The movie ‘Rain Man’ which featured this car is an award-winning story about TOM Cruise taking advantage of an Autistic person for personal gain which is not far from the truth. But the car was pretty good looking. Greenlight have given the complete chrome finish, white wall wheels, this is very very nice.

This is what we mean about MINI GT. Who else who think of getting the jump on modern motorsport and producing some of the latest track superstars (also based on the licenses available to them). This includes the latest in prototype hypercars involved in endurance racing (aka the labs of future cars). Masters of detailed cars currently into their foray of one sixty-four scale BBR drops a third Maserati casting with a bit of racing history in its origins story sprinkled with a few successes that make it a worthy piece your motorsport collection. And when we say masters of detail, we mean it, because the detail is pretty incredible. The days of hit and miss models are over, now the demand for detail is insatiable and brands like Hotwheels are scrambling to stay relevant. It seems almost unfair but for the collectors of one sixty-four scale the choice has never been this great. It’s no wonder brands like BBR see the scope in small models and have joined the bandwagon.
This is not a scientific or medical article. It is however a motorsport story of interest. In 1967 on the 3rd of December engines were revving to kick off the non-championship Rhodesian Grand Prix held in Zimbabwe in an effortto provetothe F1’s governing bodythat SouthAfricawas aworthymotorsport venue. It also gave the one Formula 1 team that did seven races and then disappeared. But the catalyst ofthis moment and what it spawned for the future of racing is simply amazing. In a nutshell, a tobacco company in SAwas looking forways to advertise its brand circumventing the growing biasnesstowardssmokingandtheadvertisingofsmoking. They decided to sponsor an F1 team and paint the carintheircolours andthus ‘Team Gunston’was born rocking the Orange and Brown colours. This was the first time an F1 carused its sponsorcolours to represent the team.

This particular car raced in the 1970 Kyalami 9 Hour endurance race in South Africa driven by Richard Atwood who previously driven the Ferrari 250 LM as wellaswinningLemansina917andJohnLoveowner ofthe team. Unfortunately, they did not finish the 1970 race due to brake failure but what an interesting story about a plucky little race team and their revolutionary marketing idea branded liveries.

It doesn’t help that it is also the choice of car for many law enforcement agencies around the world and really do think its is because of the ‘angry dad’ look that Audi has developed so well overthe decades.

I’m glad Solido were able to do such a great representation ofthe originalbecause I reallyneeded something thatwould look at me with judgemental eyes from the shelf, while still maintaining that sunny disposition of Miami blue. But what really gets me to exclaim shrieks of pleasure are the wheels. Those lovely ABT19in rims with low profile tires wrapped around them. A simple casting with these little touches of elegance around them.

You have to hand it them; the Italians know how to design. They still haven’t solved the problem of how to build cars that can drive at low revs without the engine becoming erratic over time but oh my days, they know how to design beautiful cars. They are not infallible but when they get it right, it is a symphony of lines and curves playing with each other aerodynamically.
ThesearethenotesSOLIDOhascapturedcarefullyandreproducedin a scale far more affordable than the 1:1 version. We can still appreciate the beauty in the palm of our hands. I love the incredible job done on the iconic ‘five petals’wheel design that has grown overthe years with Alfa. I really enjoy having pieces like this. Its great for display and easyto just look at glancing awayfromyourcomputer. I reallydo think someone should take on the 1/64 market with detailed engines in 1/43 scaled cars.

Thishasgottobeoneofmymostfavourite charactercarsfromJADAsofaranditissowell chosen,suchaperfectfitthatitalmostfeelslike destiny.It’sametallicblueSubaruwithgoldOZ wheelswiththecoolestSONICgraphicspainted onthesidematchingthecolourandmatching theenergy.Youwillalsonoticethattheinteriors inJADAcarsaregettingbetterwhichisgood sincetheydon’tseemtobedroppingtheir openingpartsfeature.
Andthecentrepieceofthispackageisthematt bluediecastfigureofSONICtheHEDGEHOGin thepositionofhimabouttotakeoff.TheJADA figuresarebrilliantandusuallyhalfthereason tobuythesecars,butthispeopleshouldbe fillingupyourChristmasBagsthisseason!
MKIV SUPRA
Another casting repeat and we all know where this casting has come from but I’m not complaining because to be very honest this looks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the FnF Supra in terms of colour combination and graphics.
This looks to cool for school and obviously caters to a much wider audience both Supra Fans and One Punch fans. These are sort of brainstorms I would like to be in. Matching characters to cars to see if the car captures the nuances of the character.
punch in terms of artistic impression, it has two different graphics on either side of the car. I also love the 5 star white spoke alloy wheels set inside chrome rims and If I was you I would have the spoiler wrapped in carbon fibre weave which would look sick against the red paint of the body. Even the packaging warrants being kept safe because it fits into a collector space for the brand One Punch.

MAZDA RX-7
Not a VEILSIDE just an RX-7 looking a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y stunning in the colour combination of dark metallic blue, white snowflake rims and a stunning colour matching drawing of KAKASHI getting ready to do battle. How many of you would like to own of these in real life? An RX-7 with one of the world’s most well-known NINJA’s. JADA have outdone themselves with this and this is definitely a show case piece.
Going from past experience car fans, will love the casting, the scale, the colour, the art and price point. For hardcore Naruto fans will this have a place in your Naruto shelf? But for now, we endorse it completely for what it looks like as well as the usual features that comes with all the juicy JADA joy like Rolling wheels, opening parts and of course a really cool accompanying diecast figure of Kakashi.
Who is HATAKE KAKSHI?
THIS GUY IS A NINJA WHO HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME IN WHICH HE HAS GARNERED KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM, USING TO LEAD TEAM 7 AND TEACH THEM. HIS CHARACTER FIRST APPEARS IN 1999 IN EPISODE 03
Not a common car in the JADA line up and most certainly doesn’t have the variation numbers of some of the other models, so it’s nice to see the S2000 in play and looking the best it has ever been in a long time. The colour combination is nice and yes it was a sombre combination of orange and black to start of with but the designers at JADA have translated that well over on to the car.
The wheels look especially good, and period correct to the car as well. Would be interesting to print some VOLK RAYS TE37 stickers and paste them onto the rims to dress them up a bit. Fortunately, the mural of Naruto on the car is only on the sides which means the car is spared from any outlandish designs that may occurred if the artwork covered the whole car.
A NICE LITTLE GEM IN A SET OF CARS THAT ALL HOLD A LITTLE SOMETHING SPECIAL. HONESTLY THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF JADA’S BEST HOLLYWOOD RIDES SET YET.
