Showcased at the 2021 MCACN, this 1963 Corvette is rare and revolutionary with its fixed roof style, unique one-year split rear-window, flip-up headlights and no trunk lid.
In 1963, the newly designed aerodynamic Sting Ray was stronger and safer than its Corvette predecessor with nearly twice as much steel support in its central structure, yet with the shorter wheelbase and reduced fiberglass thickness, it actually weighed less than the old roadster. This translated into a newfound handling prowess with improved acceleration over the first generation Corvette.
Auto World has replicated this beautiful coupe in Code 936 Ermine White paint with Code 490C Red vinyl upholstery inside. Under the hood is the highly-detailed, fuel-

Majorette Is back for their 3rd year of Tune Ups! Yes, that’s right! A successful series into its third year with a great selection of models in bright neon colours including some impressive graphic process work that has gone onto some of these models.
As usual we got the entire set in the retail packaging which meant unless we opened them up, we couldn’t tell what’s what so we will be randomly pulling 5 boxes each issue.
First out the box we have the all-time favourite Nissan GTR-35 draped in a metallic purple and pink blossom livery with the word Sakura across the side in case you forgot Nissan was from Japan. But as you can see even the STIG is finding it hard to tear away his eyes from Bright pink rims, bright pink aero kit and wide tires. Your mates will hear those colours before they see it.
VOLVO V90
SHINY TRAVELLER
Second release this round reveals a spanking V90 VOLVO with fiery orange headlights and interior set against a white body casting and line art down the side of this ultralong wheelbase. An aggressive design for DADs that like to burn rubber.
But also, a great casting with a very pronounced front grille imperative to VOLVO models and of course Majorette mandated opening parts as standard.
Bright orange aero kit and matching luggage to boot, well actually to roof as the accessory comes for the roof rack. VOLVO fans are going to go Hubba hubba over this.
RENAULT MEGANE RS
RALLY CROSS
The two-tone green scheme on this Megane RS is screaming.
We already like the RENAULT RS casting from Majorette and so far, all three series have featured the RENAULT as standard. But the ‘HULK’ green paint colour with the gold rims is quite striking AND to further highlight the green the aero kit comes in a neon lime green.
As always, the tyre fatteners are dope and suit the hot hatched immensely specially with the widebody aero kit extensions.
AUDI R8 COUPE
TRACK MANIAC
No surprise with this regular casting in the line up but for some reason it’s one of those intriguing models that have a very collectable character. Is it because we associate it with TONY STARK and IRON MAN? Maybe. But back to this years’ yellow eyed monster, with cutaway graphics looking slick with a black hood like the hair on a ‘wise guy’ slicked back.
Lemon yellow in neon coloured wide body kit underpinned to the car and covered of with wide tires not forgetting this is one of the rare ones with a limited run.
MAJORETTE TUNE-UP'S RAREFORD BRONCO WILDTRAK
MICHELIN
Released last and joining the Majorette truck selection the Bronco is really great casting and we have two in this new series. Get tuned up with this homage to Michelin and livery colours. Although we are not sure whether Michelin does Bronco sized tyres.
Nevertheless this bright yellow BRONCO will definitely brighten up your BRONCO display, specially with the white body kit and blue roof accessories.
Get ready to conduct some offroad shoots and hill climb expeditions for one of America’s favourite 4X4 brands.
FORD F-150 RAPTOR
JUMPSTAR
From a wild stallion to a bird of prey the RAPTOR is another American truck staple available in the Majorette range. This one comes with a beautiful Metallic, speckled, paint in dark blue with big FORD branding in red front and back.
The paint looks so good its almost a shame to add the bright translucent body kit and bike holder. The truck comes with the bike included but its just a plastic prop. We wonder if Majorette did their own version of Collector Club cars would this a great casting to do and add a real bike casting with moving wheels and all instead of the prop version.
THE STARION STORY
Most Japanese cars like everything in Japanese culture is derived from some sort of natural form and function which usually lends to the name of their cars. For a few of Mitsubishi’s sportier models there has been a link to horses for example the famous hot hatch the COLT and the ECLIPSE named after a famous race horse. But out of all these models the most famous, the most aggressive and the most beautiful of them all is and will always be the STARION.
This was Mitsubishi’s answer to the wave of Japanese fastbacks that were dominating the 80’s. The Trueno’s, Supra’s, Z’s and Savannah’s to name a few. Widebody, turbocharged, LAMBDA chassis, this was one of Mitsubishi’s rare shining moments. Probably why it was named after the Greek Horse Arion who was to be an awesome Greek mythological horse. Fortunately, the Starion is very real.
POP RACE SILVER
A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THE CAR IN STOCK FORM AND COLOUR IS THIS KNOCKOUT PIECE IN 1/64
From nose to rear this is a great replication of the widebody TURBO Starion which was the HALO car for MITSUBISHI during the 80’s and was propelled to stardom in the petrolhead move sequel Cannonball Run 2. In the movie the car was touted to be a highly technological car that was packed with gizmos and gadgets. Fiction imitating fact? The Starion was the first Japanese car to use ECU controlled fuel injection and turbo management so, in real life it was quite cutting edge.
Unfortunately, the curse about being a model collector means you can only look at the car and imagine what the sound and power must be like but when you have something that looks this real you still derive a bit of pleasure from being able to own your own STARION. I especially love the little details that POP Race have gotten perfect. The 80’s Rims that are sooo Mitsubishi, the nice low stance, the plastic indicator lights. A lot of little things that work perfectly together. I used to like the Starion, but this POP Race model is really egging me on now to actually own a 1:1 model.
Tarmac Red THE BEST THING FOR MODEL CAR COLLECTORS. MORE CHOICE
In the beginning there were a handful of diecast scale model car brands in the world, now newer players bring newer tooling’s and newer production techniques giving collectors more choice and more detail than ever before.
Like TARMAC WORKS, one of the few brands to wave goodbye to the hot wheels style diecast and create their own empire of hot detailed scale models and look!!!! They have a Starion! And as you can see they have gone with bright red, a lower stance and those BBS SUPER RS rims in gold. In terms of 1/64 things are looking up for Starion fans.
IT’S ALWAYS AMAZING HOW THIS SHAPE HAS TRANSCENDED THE DECADES AND STILL LOOKS SO GOOD.
And it shows in the market value. Am actual STARION can fetch anything in between USD7,000 up to a whopping USD30,000 depending on the condition and trim of the car. Unsurprisingly, because Mitsubishi was a global market car maker there are almost a dozen different trims and models that come under the STARION.
In the states it was marketed as both the STARION and the CONQUEST by CHRYSLER it was like there was STARION for every type of driver out there in terms of pricing and features. There was an intercooler version, turbo version, naturally aspirated version, non turbo version, in fact we are surprised there isn’t a Back To The Future version.
THERALLYVERSION! YESWEDIDN’TFORGET,THE STARIONHASHISTORYON TRACKASWELL.
brining out the best in the teams he has worked with. NISSAN, PORSCHE, MITSUBISHI and HONDA are makers he has had the most success with and of course in they have had success with him. 1987 was a great year for Kuni-San and his STP STARION NO5#. He was able to place his STARION first in the JTC
And, in the hands of legends. This is the STARION driven by Kunimitsu Takahashi who is known in the history books as the father of drifting and had a racing career that criss crossed decades, competitions, two wheels and four wheels. He was also well known for being flexible in
300Km Highland Touring Car race and the 1987 All Japan Touring car race finally winning 3rd in the All Japan Touring Car Championship at the end of the JTC season. Definitely not a push over on the track considering the competition it had.
WHICH IS A GREAT THING TO NOTE, THIS COMPETED WITH THE BEST OF JAPANESE TOURERS,
R30 SKYLINES, TOYOTA AE36’s INCLUDING STARLETS AND OTHER COROLLA MODELS, HONDA CIVICS AND EVERY RS COSWORTHS.
Again we cannot reiterate how important brands like TARMAC WORKS are so important to the hobby in bringing cars like this to the forefront. The world of motorsport is not ruled by SKYLINES and CIVICS and there is always a great story behind a lot of the cars that have had very illustrious histories. Sadly many of these unsung heroes stay in the history books until someone looks them up because they were looking for something different to make or talk about. Personally, we feel that if the SKYLINE was hyped up to be known as GODZILLA then the STARION should hyped up to be known as the Dragon Of Japan.
ONE FINAL REACH FOR THE STARIONS
Dressed up in one of MITSUBISHI’S favourite colours, the White STARION is as magical as talking about a great mythical white stallion. It looks good, looks clean and simple the colour (or lack off) really makes a case for itself. Another great STARION casting from TARMAC Works.
In the end the MITSUBISHI manufacturing company made over 50K STARIONS worldwide and proved itself to be a very versatile car in terms of looks and speed maintaining an auror of mystique well into the 21st Century.
I do hope we get to see many greater Japanese models that have never experienced being tied up with hype. Like this STARION there are many cars that have been lost to the world and the obviously the best way to shine some light on the them is the approach some of these model car companies are taking to bring them back to life into your collections.
ONE MORE BEFORE WE THE HIT THE ROAD
Another STARION race car before we close our chapter on one of the most unsung heroes of Japanese cars. This 1/64 comes from POP Race carrying the RALLIART Livery and driven by Michael Lieu. Obviously the STARION as usual had the chops to bring her AM driver home in 3rd place. Especially when Michel wasn’t a pro driver. This Skyline slaying machine looks pretty sharp in the RALLIART livery with black BBS rim and shiny chrome deep dishes. Looking at the scale model one can only imagine being hunted down by this on the track, charging after you
TAKE ONE LAST LOOK AT THAT FANTASTIC SHAPE THAT DEFINED THE EARLY 80’S
PLENTY OF STARIONS TO CHOOSE FROM FOR SURE BUT I HOPE WE WILL BE SEEING MORE OF THE CLASSIC SPEED MACHINES.
The STARION had a prolific career in Motorsport and rallying and like we said earlier it never got the recognition it deserved. So hopefully with brands like POP RACE and TARMAC WORKS pulling these gems out of the history books we can get to discuss some fantastic results.
CLASSY STORAGE SOLUTIONS
A new entrant in the Diecast Hobby Market has everyone buzzing about their new product. For USD12.45 collectors like you can pick up or have delivered to your home address since they are online a pack of 5 1/64 storage containers. They are made out of acrylic and definitely far better than having your 164-collection lying around collecting dust.
Made out of clear acrylic the box has 360 degree viewing (depending on how you put it) and like an oven door hinged at the bottom the cover can be pulled forward and open. They boxes are all stackable and they solidly lock into place making it easier to access the models or store them.
Inside there are two dips to help keep the car in place but they work for some cars having been designed to the Hot Wheels standard. However, they still make great display boxes for all 1/64 cars. We love them.
1/43 SCALE RETURNS TO BEING MARKET TRENDY
2022 saw the resurgence of the 1/43 scale in a huge way with loads of model makers bringing the scale back to life with more intricate details that one can enjoy in between scales that are too small to enjoy the smaller details to scales that are just too big for the growing lack of space. Does the 1/43 scale fit into a nice little niche for itself? Probably.
Which means the market demands and we shall soon see for more detailed 1/43 cars complete with opening parts and other features that can be afforded to its size. If you look all the crazy things being done to 1/64, can you imagine the scope 1/43 has for producers, designers and collectors?
TARMAC WORKS BRINGS A STORM IN A TEA CUP
Suddenly TARMC WORKS is all out to conquer or corner the 1/43 market with a vengeance and really who are we to complain as always. Looking at their already impressive new releases you can smell the excitement in the air as Tarmac Works continues to dish out models under some fantastic licenses. Can you imagine they do the exact LANCIA 037 they did in 1/43?
First up and the one I excitedly ripped open is the Liberty Walks adaptation of the SILLHOUETTE Series Skyline R33 in of course the famous racing colours, red and black of the house of NISMO. But like I said earlier you get to enjoy the finer details on 1/43 and that’s exactly what you get, finer details.
LOVE HOW THE STRUTS FOR THE FRONT AIR SPLITTER ARE NICE AND THIN VERY STRUT LIKE.
THE WHEELS ARE CAMBERED SLIGHTY AGAIN SOMETHING EASILY ACHIEVED ON A LARGER SCALE.
In its entirety the car looks solid in terms of capturing the details. Having the smaller version in 1/64 I would say YES to having both scales. Its nice to see it smaller and it feels so premium to have detailed smaller scales. But also, because these cars have so many aero accessories the larger scale give you more appreciation for those finer deets.
As a skyline I have no issues adding a billionth Skyline to the collection and on a personal note I really do like the Silhouette cars from the Japanese circuit. And I hope both brands continue to create these great looking cars to add to the collection.
TARMAC WORKS REMEMBERS THE VAN FANS
I would be very surprised if the Van boys of Asia don’t pick this up. A stellar job on TW’s part bringing this iconic and much beloved people transporter of Asia into existence. It looks so good, it feels nice and weighty as a diecast model and I just love the clean lines plus subtle stickering. Everything about this model rolls on the fact that this body designer is not a ricer.
Another great side scene to having larger scale models if the ability I have to better show you collectors the pretty neat details this HIACE possess. Like the rear AERO wing mounted on the rear in gloss black. Quad exhausts, rear license plate which is actually legible without squinting, the badging everything looks good.
I’m not a collector of vans, in fact I used like collecting the VW T1 but now I feel I really have enough. So, for me to spend money and actually buy a 1/43 scale HIACE is the sort of thing that can change the earths polar setting and throw the tides into complete disarray. But when I saw it released, I just had to have it. Love the colour scheme, love everything. Glad I got this.

TARMAC WORKS
Ok anoooooooooooooooooooooooother LBWK’s. I wonder if the saturation of the LBWK brand has a negative or positive fact on the brand. Because you could throw a 1/64 in any direction and you would probably hit someone with at least 50 LBWK R35 models. But the sales of the scale models are up, pre-orders are filling, and the collecting crowd can’t get enough of these. Like this nice R35 with the very famous JPS livery.
CARBON FIBER TRIMS, THIN METAL ARMS FOR THE REAR WING AND MANY OTHER DETAILS THAT ONCE AGAIN ARE ENJOYED BECAUSE OF THE SIZES 1/43 SCALE AFFORDS.
AND LESS BREAKAGE. SMALLER PARTS MEAN MORE DELICATENESS TO THE MODEL WHICH THEN LEAVES YOU NERVOUSE ABOUT OPENING THE BOX AND ENJOYING THE MODEL. BUT LARGER MEANS STURDIER PIECES MORE ENJOYMENT.
The deep purple paint job, gloss black aero add-ons and that thin yellow line in the front on the splitter is just the right amount of highlighting this car needs. In terms of bodywork, the moulding has been done perfectly and both the paint and clear coat are done well. The interior is just stunning and we really can’t get enough of SOLIDO’s new approach to detailed interiors. They just keep getting better and better with every new batch of cars.
OLD&NEW RESTOMODS
YET ANOTHER TUNING ARM FOR PORSCHE FANS TO DROOL OVER
I have this in 1/18 and I can safely tell you that this 1/43 is on the money. Having a 1/18 to compare whether the details have been replicated was of course fun because who doesn’t like taking out their cars and pretend to do some high quality research. The things we do. But yes the OLD&NEW amalgamation on this 997 is gorgeous and worth owning in every scale.
LOOKING A LITTLE PLAIN? MISSING SOME OLD SCHOOL TOBACCO BRANDING? WELL THE CHOICE IS YOURS IF YOU WANT IT OR NOT. THE CAR COMES AS PLAIN BUT WITH THE WATER BASED DECALS INSIDE IN CASE YOU DO WANT THAT RETRO LOOK.
MORE MINIATURE MUSCLE
LIKE TARMAC, OUR FRIENDS AT SOLIDO HAVE BEEN BURNING THE MIDNIGHT OIL IN THE DESIGN STUDIO TO BRING YOU MORE 1/43 MUSCLE. AND WITH VERY TOOLING THE CARS COME IN TWO COLOURS.
HAVING ALREADY ACE’D THE 1/18 VERSION IT’S NO SURPRISE THAT SOLIDO WOULD BRING A VERY WELL TOOLED MUSTANG GT 500 TRACK 1/43 TO THE TABLE.
AS SOLIDO EXPANDS THEIR 1/43 LINE WE CAN ONLY HOPE THEY WILL HAVE MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO DO MORE WITH LICENSES THEY ALREADY HAVE FOR 1/18. IF THAT’S THE CASE CAN YOU IMAGE THEIR RALLY AND LEMANS RANGE COMING OUT IN 1/43…GOOSEBUMPS.
JADA'S FORLOVETHE DECADES
I LOVE THE 50's 1959 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE
Throughout the decades, automobiles in the US had a distinctive styling to them. Even if they were imported or domestically made, these cars became synonymous with those decades.
The first from the series is a two toned Volkswagen Beetle that celebrate the post-war years. Glossy black with baby blue side panels, rolling on white wall tires make this a very smooth model. As with most of their models, this has opening doors, front hood and rear boot, and in this case, the rear engine opening. And who doesn't love Beetles?
I LOVE THE 60's 1969 DODGE CHARGER DAYTONA
Rolling down to the 1960s, which was the era of muscle cars, stock car racing, and roaring v8s. The decade is personified by the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, with its huge wing that enabled it to leave many others in the dust.
A groovy design takes up the side panels, adding a bit of the decades art and letter styles. Decked out in the familiar orange. Makes for a great model to customize in various racing liveries.
I LOVE THE 70's 1979 FORD F-150
We glide down to the decade of LOVE the rise of the Flower Power movement. The Ford F-150 was the most sold truck in America and still holds a record for being the truck that everyone wanted.
It features a LOVE/PEACE inspired design down the side. As with most of the trucks from Jada Toys, the opening tailgate and bed is nicely done. You can load other 1:24 scaled items and set it up for some awesome photoshoots. We try to mix 1:24 scale motorcycles and equipment so we can have a lot of fun with these models.
I LOVE THE 80's 1989 FORD MUSTANG GT
The 80s were considered the boom years when big and loud was in. Big hair, big clothes, and big movies. The Foxbody Mustang was revived and looked and acted the part of the decade in which it was born to. The GT, SVO, the SHO and other variants delivered power at a budget.
The graphics used in this model reminds us of the days of MIAMI VICE, MTV, Knight Rider, Blockbuster, and many other things that can't be written about on this article. The electric blue and pink colors are stunning. We want a few more models to have this pattern!
I LOVE THE 80's 1989 FORD F-150 SVT LIGHTNING
The decade when Generation Xers became adults. They knew how to drive stick, and wanted ICE (In-car-entertainment) in their vehicles. Also they wanted cars that were tuned and kitted out. Neon and 12" speaker systems.
The Ford F-150 SVT Lightning is an ideal representation of the era. Love the blue used and the pattern of the graphics that came out in music videos of that time.
I LOVE THE 2000s 2009 NISSAN GT-R R35 BEN SOPRA
The NAUGHTIES brought with it's own sense of style. The first decade of the new millennium was one of growth in both technology and people connecting on Social Media to share more and more. Suddenly you could look at car tuners in Japan while sitting in America and vice versa. It was the decade when more and more tech took over vehicles.
But this is a great bookend to the "I Love The..." series from Jada Toys. Each model features distinctive packaging featuring art styles from those decades.
All these and more are available on the www.jadanextlevel. com website and through their resellers worldwide.
ANOTHER RALLY LEGEND
WHO THE HECK IS THE JOLLY CLUB
An institution in WRC the JOLLY Club was an Italian Rally Team that was sponsored by ToTip and their garage was headed by quite a few Lancia’s including a couple of the HF Delta Intergrale. In 1993 the team had a good run thanks to the amazing ability of Carlos Sainz Snr. Who managed to pull himself into 8th place of WRC that year and delivered 5th place in the constructors to the team. And this was the car he did it in.
SOLIDO has increased their model release for the year and they are truly slaying it in terms of some really amazing models at really great prices with some fantastic insight in to the world of motorsport. Bothe the rally range and the LeMans range have been particularly expanded with some of the best and most loved models being chosen. The problem is that, it has left the collector broke and homeless trying hard to keep up with the plethora of awesome that SOLIDO keeps throwing at us.
The Delta HF INTERGRALE is a great ode to SOLIDO’s current claim to fame in terms of detail and finish. The interior no longer is the step child of quality but instead promoted to the same importance as the exterior needs to be in terms detail. And we are not talking about the presence of roll cages. We are talking about the availability of the onboard computer mounted onto the dashboard or the seat cover that looks the part right down to texture design. SOLIDO Is carving out a new market for itself through sheer improvement in quality.
And there is nothing like getting a great deal on your 1/18 scale model specially in such a highly competitive market. So if your looking to make a choice on something that will not have you killed when the bill comes through. Grab this gorgeous Carlos Sainz Snr. Car and park it next to your Carlos Sainz Jr. F1 car. Like father like son.

NISSANS SON OF SPEED THE R390 GT1
With a serious interest in Motorsport and a serious interest in the Jaguar XJR-15 Nissan decides to build a car with the sole purpose of entering it into the LeMans race. So far they had been using homologated versions of their famous touring cars but now NISSAN wanted to build something that screamed LeMans from the minute anyone saw it. So, they grabbed the lead designer from Jaguar gave him some NISSAN 300ZX parts and told him to build a LeMans ready car.
And so, the first road going R390 in Royal Blue and the only road going R390 was built and stored away in the car makers history halls. However, the racing going versions were built and for two years running the R390 was place 3rd overall. Proving once and for all, NISSAN knew how to build fast and reliable. And to be honest the choice to use parts from the 300ZX like the headlights and subtle nuances like the split grille similar to the Primera gave people the impression that NISSAN’s motorsport cars and road going cars were linked in many ways.
A MODICOM OF BEAUTY IN THE CAR WORLD.
Sometimes I look at cars like this and think the Japanese had the Itallians by the short hairs in terms of design. Let’s not forget the Japanese culture is steeped in art and functional design, to build a work of art with the sole purpose of going fast is definetely up the Japanese auto makers street.
GT SPIRIT has left no stone unturned in capturing every line possible on this car and the use of actual perforated grilles are the little bits of love that GT Spirit throws in even though they are the starting position of highly detailed and crafted models. These cars are the last vestiges of the ICE era and as we go electric we wave goodbye to these cars and wave goodbye to the natural sound of explosions under the hood.

You want more! Well, SOLIDO is giving you more. That’s right, their second instalment of this giant beast. It has so many aero accessories on it I swear I feel like if I throw it the aerodynamic assistances will make it fly. And it is superbly heavy.
SOLIDO kicked off their 1/18 LBWK foray with the GT-R35 in Metallic blue and black. This year they return with two newer versions. One is this silver model and the other in air force livery currently on pre-order. In terms of detail this is exactly like the blue version which we liked very much.
Even though this isn’t as flashy as the blue one with its matt grey paint it certainly brings out all the black glossy bits that have been mounted onto the car. And of course, the wheels look absolutely stunning, what I would call picture perfect.
RENAULT DOWN! RENAULT DOWN! OVER!
Was this some sort of marketing play to have Renaults around France rescued by a JEEP Cherokee? Absolutely! To mark the part ownership of AMC-JEEP bought over by Renault, the marketing teams decided to display is rugged reliability by making it the saviour and rescue vehicle for Renault.
With the number of breakdowns, a Renault has, this proved to be a gem of an idea proving far beyond a doubt that the JEEP Cherokee was the best vehicle for Renault. Whenever you saw a JEEP, you would also see a Renault not far behind.
Love this version of an assistance vehicle and OTTO-MOBILE though understated a lot have a really great reputation for maintain their quality and also for having wheel that roll even though they are a sealed resin model.
